Fix chopped clips

I am new to iMovie and started to import quite some miniDV tapes (±80) from my Sony DCR-PC9E to the iMovie library. I am looking for a solution to join clips in (or back into) the event library.
Background of my problem.
The tapes sometimes have some small hickups which do not really bother during playback from the camera, but after importing into iTunes each hickup will cause the clip to split and the few (1 to 4) hickup frames appear as a separate clip whith an incorrect date and time (they have the import date in stead of the recording date).
The ideal solution would be that iMovie is not chopping up my clips in case of a small hickup, but I have no idea of this can be forced. The alternative is that I 'fix' the clips after import for which I need to join all the hickup frames back into the clips again. I planned to add the clips and hickup clips to a project, but very short clips (1 or a few frames) cannot be added to a project for some reason.
The resulting questions therefore are:
1) Is it possible to prevent iMoview from chopping up frames during import in case of some short hickups in camera playback.
2) Is it possible to glue clips together in the event library?
3) As last resort, how can I add clips of only a few frames into a project? After which I may somehow generate a new output file which I import again in the event library.
Or maybe somebody has an alternative solution?

Oh!! Oh!! The media browser!! I tried that before, but it didn't make sense to me that it was in the media browser you referred the effect to. I usually use transitions and text effects. I did not know of these effects!! I think of them as overlays, but not enhancement effects as overlays like sharpening etc.
It did not help, the footage is too blurry. But thanks anyway! I learned something new!

    How can i fix a clip when the video and audio are not matching up? I imported the video from a junkdrive in a .VOB format and concerted to a .mov the videos were filmed on a miniDVD recorder.

    I would try detaching the audio and the dragging the audio to the left or right until it lines up.

  • Batch Fix iMovie Clip Create Dates

    I noticed the many issues that people have with iMovie importing clips, and then assigning a create date to the physical file based on the import date, not the actual shoot/creation date.  Although it maintains the correct create_date within the iMovie interface, this is bad news if I ever decide to use these files with another peice of software.  Several people suggested using "A Better Finder Attributes" (http://bit.ly/RI9Zrv) to manually change the file's create date.  But, as friendly as ABFA is, this one-by-one method would take forever with so many files impacted.
    Question: The file name that iMovie assigns to imported clips looks like this: "clip-2011-08-07 16;42;54.mov", containing the date/time stamp. What I was wondering is whether someone might have a suggestion/tool/script for re-assigning the create date by parsing the file name, and converting it into the correct date/time stamp for the file?  Or, can you think of any other way to batch-correct the create dates?
    Thanks in advance!

    Claas,
    I had a few different problems I needed to solve. First I was not viewing "All Clips" in the iMovie browser window. You need to makes sure you have the setting correct in your iMovie broswer.
    Then I could see the rejected clips, and in my case there were some in the event from 2009 that were not being used in my project, and that cause the event to get dated 2009. In other words, an event is going to get dated based on the newest clip in the event. I deleted those clips, and then the project moved into the 2006 year folder (grouping).
    Second I had some missing clips. Those were harder to fix. I had to go to the finder and open the iMovie library package and dig into the files there and find the missing files. I dragged them to my desktop, and then dragged them back into the clips section of the iMove browser. If you try this, make sure you have a good backup of everything in case something goes haywire. I hope this helps. It can be confusing. I final got everything fixed and working right. Now I'm having fun making movies!

  • Analisng and fixing all clips in a sequence

    I am sending a sequence from FCP6 to STP2 and just as in the FCP timeline the track has all the clips showing. I want to analyse the clips and fix but can only do one clip at a time which is annoying. Is there anyway to select all the clips and do one analysis and fix as opposed to many?

    You need to ask this in the Final Cut Studio forum

  • Fixing AV clips that have uneven out points

    For some reason, After Effects CS5 exported Premiere Pro projects often have audio clips that are a few frames longer than its associated video track.
    Is there a way just to adjust the audio track's out point without unlinking them first?  I've been using the razor blade to cut it even, delete the extra bit, then drag out of the outpoint again. Kind of clumsy, but it works.

    Depending on the Export settings (both from AE, and PrPro), the block sizes on some Audio formats will differ very slightly, than the accompanying Video file. The differences are usually very slight, but can cause problems, similar to what you are encountering.
    What are the Audio and Video formats and their settings?
    Not saying that this is your cause, but it happens fairly often, and will usually show up in Encore.

  • How can I get a clip in a fixed position?

    Dear people,
    i have a question for you. I am making a video clip. In the clip I use a lot of short clips of 10 seconds
    or less after one another. Transitions, effects, everything is working great. But how do fix a clip on the timeline.
    Everytime I change the lenght of one of the short clips, all the other clips are moving out of their position.
    I hope there is a solution, otherwise i have a huge problem. Heeelp!

    Hi
    Here You meet the border of Amateurism and Professionalism.
    This can not be done (with any form of ease) in any version of iMovie.
    BUT - this is a standard way of working in FinalCut up to version Express 4 or pro 7
    (What can or can't be done in FCP-X still is a mystery to me)
    So either - document every clip on a number of frame basis in iMovie up to HD6 and do this very carefully and tedious labor.
    Or try to find a second hand version of any previous version of FinalCut.
    iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - I'm not sure that one can document each clip at frame exact notification. May be ?
    And of course one can do this in QuickTime Pro - BUT then at a need of an even higher level of carefulness and skill.

  • HELP! How Do I Reattach Audio to Edited Clips in my Timeline?

    So I Made a HUGE Mistake in my editing process and I dont know how to fix it. I have a long timeline full of edited (chopped) clips that had audio attached to them. The chopping process has taken my over 200 hours and I cannot afford to go back and re-chop all my footage again. PLEASE tell me there is a way to select all of my clips in my timeline (that are now audio-less) and re-attached the audio to JUST that specified portion of the clip that I have worked on. I know how to find original clip and re-drag to timeline again... this is not what I want. Thanks so much for any help in advance.

    Post a picture of your timeline- it's difficult to picture what exactly the issue is. At any rate you cannot re-attach audio to matching video clips. But you can select audio and video and connect them as a Compound Clip.

  • Clipping Path Problem in CS4

    First let me say that I'm am still new to this program and this was so much easier to do in Freehand.
    When you use clipping mask in Illustrator to insert a JPEG into a shape it looks good until you see it on your desktop or open it in Photoshop, the border of the original size of the JPEG still shows up as white area, so I have to take the time open these clipped images in Photoshop just to crop out all that extra white area. I hope this is an easy fix or some simply step I'm missing?
    I asked an old friend who uses Illustrator all the time and he said that's the way it has always been, clip a photo in Illustrator then open it up in
    Photoshop to fix the clipping problem.
    I have attached JPEG to help explain what I need and what's happening to the photos.
    If anyone could help it would save me a TON of work.
    Thank You,
    Indyrebel

    indyrebel,
    You may do the otherwise dirty destructive deed in Illy:
    With the Clipping Mask selected:
    1) In the Transparency palette/panel dropdown select anything but Normal (Multiply is fine);
    2) Object>Flatten Transparency (just leave it at 100% vector and other defaults).
    This will rid you of the parts outside the Bounding Box of the path that shapes the Clipping Mask: a rectangle, even in case of other shapes such as ellipses, which does not hurt in your case.
    If you do it to (especially stroked) vector artwork, it may hurt.
    Obviously, the serious issue is with JPEG, not with PNG/GIF when transparency is applied; but it may be inconvenient in any case, having outlying parts selectable.

  • How do I save an edited clip back to my library?

    I've dragged a clip to the timeline, I've edited it by rotating the clip and expanding it's size. I now want to save that edit that I've just done on the clip BACK to my library window. How do I do this? I've tried right-clicking and selecting "Make Subclip" but a second instance of the video just appears back in the library in it's original form.

    If you are "fixing"  a clip, and want the effects you applied to follow every use of the clip in the timeline, you may want to look at applying a Master Clip effect to the source clip. Once you have done that, every time you use material from the clip, the corrections you have made by applying Master Effects will be applied as well.
    This is useful, for example, if you are correcting say - phone footage that needs to be rotated vertically, then cut up to the timeline.
    There is a tutorial here:
    How to apply effects to all instances of a clip | Adobe Premiere Pro CC tutorials
    When you want to apply Motion effects such as scale and rotation to a Master Effect, you can go to Effects > Distort > Transform and apply the Transform effect. That will give you scale and rotation control.
    By apply Master Effects, you avoid the need to export/import or subclip.

  • Near clipping plane cuts small objects

    Small objects loaded into Acrobat3D are hidden behind view near clipping plane.
    The 3D annotation rendering in Acrobat3D, Acrobat Pro and Adobe Reader at versions 7.0.9, 8.1, 8.1.1, all show that the near clipping plane is set so that small objects may not be correctly rendered.
    If the extent of an object is less than approximatly 0.001, it is likely to be hidden behind the front (near) clipping plane in the 3D viewport. It appears that specification of the near clipping plane numerical value which may be present in the U3D data structures are ignored, and a fixed near clip value is used.
    A further sympton of this is that when the bounding box size of an object is below 0.001 in each of X,Y,Z, The bounds reported in the Part Tree panel shows zero, as values are only printed at 2 decimal digits of precision.
    I would like to have near clip value be controllable from U3D 3D annotations, appropriate for small objects.
    Platform:
    Acrobat3D 8.1, Windows XP 32-bit
    Test Case:
    Take sample object (below) as ASCII VRML files (.wrl) with small
    coordinate values.
    Load into Acrobat3D. The object is invisible, hidden behind view near clip plane. Then sweep the right mouse slowly downwards 3 or 4 times, to "zoom out". At some point the small object will appear in the center of the window, as it is revealed on the other side of the near clip plane.

    IanC,
    Have you tried using Javascript to set the clipping plane? Here's a hunk of code to set it and then move it with the Keyboard x,y,z or Shift+ x,y,z. Let me know if this helps...
    //code snippet ================================
    clippingPlane = scene.createClippingPlane();
    //create vectors
    xDir = new Vector3(3, 0, 0);
    yDir = new Vector3(0, 3, 0);
    zDir = new Vector3(0, 0, 3);
    nxDir = new Vector3(-3, 0, 0);
    nyDir = new Vector3(0, -3, 0);
    nzDir = new Vector3(0, 0, -3);
    //transform clippingPlane
    myKeyHandler = new KeyEventHandler();
    myKeyHandler.onEvent = function(event)
    if (event.characterCode == 120) //x
    clippingPlane.transform.translateInPlace(xDir);
    console.println("move x+");
    else if (event.characterCode == 121) //y
    clippingPlane.transform.translateInPlace(yDir);
    console.println("move y+");
    else if (event.characterCode == 122) //z
    clippingPlane.transform.translateInPlace(zDir);
    console.println("move z+");
    else if (event.characterCode == 88) //shift + x
    clippingPlane.transform.translateInPlace(nxDir);
    console.println("move x-");
    else if (event.characterCode == 89) //shift + y
    clippingPlane.transform.translateInPlace(nyDir);
    console.println("move y-");
    else if (event.characterCode == 90) //shift + z
    clippingPlane.transform.translateInPlace(nzDir);
    console.println("move z-");
    else if (event.characterCode == 114) //r

  • Clips stretched in Canvas view with same footage from previous sequence

    I created a 1 minute video to play on a laptop that I've edited down to 30 seconds. This 30 second version will be playing on a television, so I changed the Sequence Presets to "DV NTSC 48Hz" and the QuickTime video settings from "Photo -JPEG" (since I'm using still shots in the video) back to "DV/DVPRO NTSC."
    I'm using the exact same clips and essentially duplicated the previous sequence and edited down the clips. But for some reason, the clips appeared stretched in the Canvas with black bars on either side, and it exports the same way as a Quicktime file. I checked the Sequence settings on both the 1 minute and 30 sequence versions, and they are identical. Any idea why the clips would all of a sudden stretch and how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

    Still images within the sequence are Photo JPEG Quicktime files
    Why? FCP can read actual picture files. Just curious. PhotoJPEG at 75%?
    so I changed the Sequence Presets to "DV NTSC 48Hz" and the QuickTime video settings from "Photo -JPEG" (since I'm using still shots in the video) back to "DV/DVPRO NTSC."
    What was the sequence setting before? Why did you use that setting if your footage was DV?
    OK...try this. Explain your workflow. What did you start out with as your settings? Why did you do this? What was your intended workflow?
    If you put a DV file into a sequence setting of anything other than DV, the file will adjust to meet those parameters. For example, I edit DVCPRO HD 720p at 960x720. When I drop a DV file into the sequence, it will scale up to 150% so that it fits full screen (with black bars on left and right...200% makes it fill the screen). I have adjusted the settings on the clip.
    Now, if I adjusted the SEQUENCE settings, the clip settings remain the same...still 150%...so they will appear large or distorted. You then need to fix each clip until it is right with the sequence. Or fix one and then copy and paste the attributes to the other.
    Still, I don't understand why you were in a different preset to begin with. Was the first clip you added to the sequence a PHOTO JPEG still, so the settings adjusted to that?

  • Help - clips being cut off - 'arrow' feature vanished

    I'm using CS4.
    Unfortunately, I have no idea what the feature I need is called, hence part of my issue.
    Up until recently, when I used premeire, when bringing a clip right up next to another, these little arrows appeared and helped stop the clip directly next to the clip, without accidentally deleting over it. I have no idea how - but mid edit of a piece I was doing, this feature went away, and I'm forced to eyeball, which really sucks. If I hold down CTRL (PC user), I get the one that should force everything past the clip, however, this isn't working correctly either - instead of moving a whole clip like it would before, it chops clips in half and moves only the part wherever the file landed.
    Again, sorry I don't know what this is called, and I don't know if this makes sense. But I NEED this feature back!
    Actually, if you look at this video:
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-premiere-pro-cs4/getting-started-06-editing-your-video/
    It's that black line with arrow that appears as the guy is moving clips. That is what vanished.
    Thanks!!

    THANKS guys!!! It was indeed snap.
    Jeff - thanks for the insight as to how I turned it off in the first place (while I was saving clearly).
    I'm so happy! You guys rock!!!!!!!!

  • Can't find Clip that is choking Batch Capture

    I'm getting a Timecode error saying Final Cut has reached the end of the tape when it tries to capture a particular clip. I can't delete the clip because it's not showing up in my browser window! In other words, it doesn't exist. Is there such a thing as invisible files in Final Cut Pro?
    K

    The thing that's got me the most confused is when I go over to my batch capture list to see what the timecode indicates, the clip that it's having probelms with isn't listed. It doesn't exist. How do I fix a clip's timecode parameters if I can't find the clip listed anywhere. The only time I can see the name of the file (clip) is when batch capture is happening and the program lists the clip it's trying to capture. The name of the clip ends with a number. The last clp closest to it has the number CU 5-1. The program is trying to capture CU 5-2...but there is no CU 5-2!
    What's going on?

  • Clip frame rate wrong in imovie 11

    Ever since I upgraded to imovie 11 all of my video clips show a 60 in a yellow frame - both in events and projects - with the message "indicates clip frame rate (60fps) is not a multiple of the current project (25 fps)". What does this mean? As I said shows in events and projects. To stop audio jumping I detached all audio from clip but how do I fix the clip frame rate? Assume this causes "jumpy replay" problems. How do I fix and where??? Please help. Could not find solutions anywhere.

    I meant to say it only (if I may generalize here) makes a difference when you edit. Don't try to edit 30 fps material in a timeline meant for 25 fps. Very few applications can accomplish this with a good end result.
    Are you speaking about this particular change of frame rates or any?
    Having transfered Super 8 film that was shot at 18 fps, I have little choice but to change the rate. So far everything seems to be working out fine. For 24 fps iMovie does a pull-down of 1 1 2; for 30, 2 2 1. I'm a little confused as to whether I should use 24 or 30 fps. I'll be asking about this in a new thread.
    The easiest way to change a projects framerate is to edit the project xml file.
    Right click on your iMovie project file and choose "Show package contents..." (or something similar)
    Edit the "Project" file (no extension) using the free Textwrangler editor or a plist capable editor.
    Find the node "frameRate" and update to 30.
    Really? That's a cool trick! But it sounds like it could easily mess things up. Have you tried this and with what scenarios?
