How do I uninstall applications with a MacBook Pro?

Hai, I need help finding out how to uninstall applications with a MacBook Pro?
-I just got this computer 5-6 days ago and I hardly know anything about it. (AS expected from a new user to a Mac computer. ) Everything is kind of confusing to me especially with unziping and ziping files.
-I have researched trying to find out ways to uninstall with a Mac but everyone seems to have a different way to uninstall. And I really don't want to do something to mess up my new computer while trying to find out how to uninstall applications. (These computers are "expensive" and are non-returnable.)
If anyone can answer my question that would be so great and I would surely appreciate you!
Thank you, CreeSuki.
OH, and if needed I am running on operating system "Lion" (Rawrrrr). And I am trying to uninstall Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 in general.
Thank you!

The basic way to uninstall an app is just trash it.  But to get (most, sometimes all) of its associated data files, for example, preferences (usually .plist files in ~/Library/Preferences -- ~ is your home directory) you either have to know what to look for or try to use one of the 3rd party generic uninstallers.  Here's a (partial?) list of potential uninstallers:
Amnesia
AppCleaner
AppDelete
AppZapper
CleanApp
iTrash
TrahsMe
Go to www.macupdate.com and search for them.
Note, there is no guarantee these uninstallers will find all the potential stuff an app can install but even if it misses stuff no harm is done other than wasting a little disk space.
Oh, almost forgot.  Many apps that come with their own installers sometimes provide their own uninstallers to uninstall themselves.  Use those if they are provided instead of one of the generic uninstallers.

You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow Apple Support's instructions to remove it.
If you have trouble following those instructions, see below.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable string of characters, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes it's a meaningless string such as "e8dec5ae7fc75c28" rather than a word. Sometimes the string is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the string something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same string you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name; it doesn't vary. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • How do I uninstall iBooks from my MacBook Pro?

how do I uninstall iBooks from my MacBook Pro if a message pops up saying: "iBooks app cannot be modified or deleted because its requires by OS X"???

No, you're missing the entire forest and the trees.  Whatever it is you are trying to accomplish by hacking iBooks off of your system, it is not an informed decision that will benefit you in any way.  To increase rather than decrease the load on iTunes by returning the book library view to it would tend to make iTunes worse, wouldn't it?  Certainly, not being able to open your books there in any way can't be an improvement.  If you have books that used to show up in iTunes, and that is where you want them displayed, then you have books that will be read on iBooks on iOS or OS X.  If you're just shifting ePubs into some other reader on your mobile devices, you wouldn't put them into your iTunes library at all, and iBooks would be empty anyway.
And beside that, you're hosed in Yosemite with those maneuvers, so again, accomplishing absolutely nothing but scratching a very silly itch that is much worse as the rash you're creating.  Did you delete the unnecessary keyboards and language files first, because that will save a lot more space.  Did you cull the unnecessary kexts for your hardware?  You know, things that actually do something valuable with a measurable benefit and no downside.  If iBooks is such a pressure on your life that you have to get rid of it, how would you know?  Do you torture yourself by opening iBooks everyday and then screaming in pain?  If you can live without it installed, then you would not normally be opening it anyway, so it would have about the same affect on you as Migration Assistant or Chess, unless you deliberately sought it out.

  • How do I uninstall programs from my MacBook Pro?

I am new to Mac and don't fully understand how to uninstall a program from my Macbook Pro. I've been having some problems with the Sims 3 (Probably some custom content that was bad) and I want to completely uninstall The Sims 3 from my laptop. How do I do this? I have heard that some people say to just delete the folder from my Applications, but being that I come from PC that doesn't seem like it gets rid of everything to me. Anything would be helpful. Thanks.

    Sarah
    Here are the steps:
Manually Uninstalling The Sims 3 from a Mac
Delete the /Applications/The Sims 3 folder (or any for a Stuff of Expansion pack).
Delete the /Users/"User"/Library/Preferences/The Sims 3 Preferences folder.
    Delete the /Users/"User"/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 folder.
Note: This file can be saved as a backup to retain save games, simply rename it.

There's a lot more installed than what that article says. The Java installation package includes much more than just:
    /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/
Take a look at the package with Pacifist.

  • How can I access iCloud with my Macbook Pro with 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo?

I would like to know how to use iCloud on my MacBook Pro as I have other Apple products that are newer than this laptop and I would like to synch with the iCloud between all products.  I can synch with the iCloud with my iphone 5 and my iMac.

You must be able to upgrade it to 10.7.2 or later for iCloud:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

  • How do I uninstall CS2 from my macbook pro? I am still on Snow Leopard.

I have been using CS2 on my macbook pro for a couple of years now. It's slow, but it got done what I needed to get done. Today I got a message that said my CS2 license was not valid and all the applications in CS2 stopped working. I am assuming I have to uninstall and reinstall. BUT the first instruction is to go to the activiy monitor and find the "ahcremind" and click "quit process". I know you've heard this before and even answered it before but not in any place I could find. Help! How do I uninstall?

Remove the app from your Applications folder (or wherever it's installed) and then restart your laptop.

  • How to rip dvd's with newest MacBook Pro?

Hi, what is the best application to rip dvd's (with the latest MacBook Pro)? I want to save them and then edit in iMovie.
I've seen that Handbrake isn't suitable for 10.8.2 anymore.
    Thanks!!

I have seen a couple of posts about this, but they all seem to go in a different direction. The general theme of the problem is Handbrake not working on Mountain Lion but working on Snow Leopard.
Ever since I installed Mountain Lion on an external drive, I basically haven't been able to have Handbrake properly run. Using a disc as a source, it has wavered between stopping early with only about 5-10 minutes encoded to taking the full amount of time but only resulting in a short clip or a couple of short clips.
I think it has only worked once or twice total.
Since I still have Snow Leopard installed on my iMac original drive, I will often go back to that install and test HB and 99.99% of the time, it works without a hitch, thus giving me no other choice to believe it is something with ML or the HB install on ML at least.

  • How do I migrate applications from old MacBook Pro to a MacBook Air?

How do I migrate applications such as Word & iWork from my old Macbook Pro running Lion to my new MacbOok Air, running Mountain Lion?
    Thanks for advice. Cheers.

One way: if you have a backup of your MBP on an external disk which you could connect to your MBA, or you could establish a connection in between the two Macs, you may want to launch the "Migration Assistant" on the MBA. You'll find it in Applications under Utilities. It guides you through the steps and options.
The other (better) way is re-installing all apps fresh, and best the latest versions and updates to make sure it's all ML compatible. "Purchases" in the App Store are helpful as you simply download and install the latest and greatest again. For MS Word etc you should have the install disks. It's a bit more work but usually worth it.

  • How do I customize application shortcut keys Macbook Pro

    Hey Guys,
I know how to set up shortcut keys...systems preferences>keyboard>applications...but when I attempt to make a shortcut key, for example to open iTunes I used the shortcut command+control+I but when I close iTunes and try to open it using this combination of buttons nothing happens and I don't have any idea why.
    Any help would be great!

Different applications have their own shortcuts.   A MacBook Pro is a notebook, whereas a Mac Pro is a desktop machine.   Unless the shortcut is made to function across all applications, you will only get it to work in the application you set it up in.  http://startly.com/ is a popular third party software used for keyboard shortcuts.  Note, they appear not yet to be ready for Mountain Lion.

  • HT4906 I have photos on my iPad how do I sync them with my MacBook Pro?

I just bought a MacBook Pro and I am able to sync calenders and contacts et al but my photos on my iPad don't sync with the compurter. What am I doing wrong?

Any photos you take with your iPad will be added to the iPad's Camera Roll.
If you set up Photo Stream on your iPad, the new photos in the Camera Roll  will automatically be added to the Photo Stream.
On your Mac you need iPhoto or Aperture to import the photos from the Photo Stream into a Photo Library. This Photo Stream feature requires OS X Lion v10.7.2 (or later) and iPhoto 9.2 (or later) or Aperture 3.2 (or later).
On your new MacBook Pro you probably have MacOS X 10.8.2 and iPhoto 9.4.2, so the Photo Stream should be available. Have you enabled it in the iCloud settings? And are you using the same Apple ID on both your iPad and your Mac?

  • How do I uninstall iPhoto from my MacBook Pro? It won't let me shut down my computer cause it keeps telling me to wait for my images to import, but there isn't anything importing...?

I can't shut my computer down side my iPhoto app is telling me that it's importing pictures, but not is happening & I wanted to uninstall iPhoto to see if that would work. Please some one help me! This is annoying.

The "Importing" message can be cause by a corruption of your iPhoto library - then uninstalling will not help. Try this:
    Force Quit iPhoto:
From the -menu in the upper left corner of the screen:   > Force quit ⌥⌘⎋
Then select iPhoto from the panel.
Then fix your iPhoto library and remove the "Importing" folder from the library  -
