How to copy everything from my ipod, back to my itunes library? Crashed external hard drive- containing all music/media that was linked to itunes.
My external hard drive crashed and that is where I had all of my music/media files. I do have some content on another external drive, but not all (and not my movies, etc).
How can I copy everything, from my ipod classic, back to my itunes on my PC with Windows XP?
The media is laid out on the iPod in a completely different stucture to that used by iTunes. However, if all your files on the iPod have tags (i.e. are not wav files) then you can try the following:
Create a new empty library by holding down shift and clicking the icon to launch iTunes, then select Create. Choose a location with enough room for your media, ideally on the same drive letter your missing media folder used to be on.
Copy the contents of \iPod_Control\Music into the Automatically add to iTunes folder of the new library.
Move the resulting iTunes Media folder into the location that your current library expects to find it. (If you can't do this for some reason move on to the next step, then use my FindTracks script to reconnect your media)
Hold down shift and click the icon to launch iTunes, then select Choose and select your original library.

My music is stored on an external hard drive. All music that I buy, whether from itunes or some other provider, automatically gets loaded onto my external drive. There is some music on my computer drive as well. Will match work in this circumstance?
I followed all the instructions for consolidating my music into one folder on my external hard drive. (I'm struggling with this because my ext HD was renamed when I synched my iPod shuffle last night. The "E:" drive has now become the "F:" drive and all my songs have those dreaded exclamation points next to them. Exploring my computer, I found "My music" folders in two place on my C: drive and one place on my external hard drive... and the song list in each place is different.
Argh.
So... following the directions in the article reference here, I attempted to consolidate all of my songs into one folder on my external hard drive.
But.. I checked the song list when the "consolidation" was complete... and MANY songs are missing. They're still on the C: drive, but don't appear to have been copied to the new folder on the ext HD.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Edit: I tried to reassign the ext. HD a permanent letter, but my Control panel does not appear to offer the option of Administrative tools. Is there an easy way to get to this, as this seems to be the root of the problem?

Problems backing up I-tunes library to external hard drive.
Help - I'm having problems backing up I-tunes library to external hard drive. The drive appears on the desktop but when I try to drag in my i-tunes music folder I just get the circle with a line through it symbol. I can drag items from my mac to a different 4 gig memory stick with no problems. I put some music onto the hard drive from a windows p.c. and that dragged into my i-tunes fine. Any help would be much appreciated.
i'm guessing the external HD is NTFS formatted, which your Mac cannot write to (read only).
you will either have to reformat it (FAT32 or, better yet, for Mac) or install the _*NTFS 3G*_ driver.

I'm thinking of getting an ipad but due to having too many songs/movies etc I'm running out of space on my Macbook (250gb). I want to access all my music on my phone and ipad and macbook from any internet connection... Is there a way of doing this?
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

Non purchased movies such as home video can't be uploaded to iCloud and would require a third party cloud storage solution. -

Not sure what your question is. If you want to sync them to your iPad then you will need to use a computer, you won't be able to connect an external drive to it - there are some wifi-enabled drives that allow you to stream music and videos to an iPad (so you could potentially use your netbook to copy them over to one), but if you want to store them on the iPad then you will need a computer that can run iTunes.
If they are iTunes purchases then you might be able to re-download some of them directly on the iPad via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app. -
I got my computer reset and my iTunes deleted. I still have everything on my iPod Touch but when I downloaded a new iTunes on my computer everything was deleted. How do I get everything in my iPod back to my iTunes and into my computer?

My hard drive on my computer crashed! This is the computer my ipad was sync with! All my photos of my three girls are on the ipad, but how do I get them transferred to either an external hard drive or to another computer - or just have them all printed - nearly 1000 photos!
Also, can I back up my ipad with an external hard drive? If I try to sync to a new computer it will erase everything I currently have on the ipad , correct?

The title came from an earlier step in the process when I was posing a question to the systen.
The pertinent part of the question is "How to I back up documents that are stored in iCloud"
That the destination for the backup is NOT my internal HDD should be clear from the rest of the post.
And frankly, even if that is where I want to back up to, that would at least give me two copies, at least giving me one duplicate of the stuff on iCloud.
So please stop wasting my time if you can't answer the actual question: How do I backup content that is stored in iCloud. The destination of the backup is irrelevant.

After backing up through time machine on external hard drive, how do you access that data?
I backed up my MacBook to an external hard drive through Time Machine. After it was all done and I reconnected the external hard drive to make sure that I could access everything that was backed up, I couldn't get into the data on the external hard drive because it said that it was backed up through Time Machine.
What does this mean? How to I access the data that is on my external hard drive?There are 2 options.
1) (The Suggested way) With the TM external drive connected Open The Time Machine App in Applications and you can browse what has been backed up.
2) Open Finder and select the drive name on the left then the Backups.backupsdb folder and in there is all your files from the backups you have made listed under your Machine Name and in that folder under the dates/times they were created -
I cannot get my iTunes library/music from my old computer to my new one. The old computer is so messed up that I cannot even open a browser.I tried to copy to an external hard drive and the music was there until I went to upload to the new computer. I disconnected my old computer so I will have to reconnect it I am sure. thank you for any help. Last time I transferred I used a product I purchased. That was a long time ago.
First of all make sure that you've definitely backed up the movies to your external hard disc.
In iMovie click on any event you don't want, go to the file menu and select 'move event to trash'. Then do the same for any unwanted projects - 'move project to trash'. Quit out of iMovie and empty the trash.

not sure how to restore old files, address book, music, photos to my new Mac OS X 10.7.4. The external hard drive has all the computer (system-apps-files etc) stored via carbon cloner. The formatted volume is Macos extended (journaled) Do I need to download memeo Life Agent program or is there a migration type program already on my new computer? 1) Right click on the Finder icon on dock and select "Go-To Folder" option.
2) You will get a text box, type-in below mentioned command and then hit 'Return' key.
/etc
3) It will open the etc folder, please look for file named "hosts" and copy the same to Desktop screen.
4)Double click on Hosts file , it will open with TextEdit .
Let me know whether you can see any Adobe entries like 127.0.01 activate.adobe.com ...xxxxxx.adobe.com.....etc???
