Internet connection slowdown on Macbook

Over the past few weeks, my internet connection on my Macbook (new 2/08) has become extremely slow, often giving time-out error messages on Safari & Firefox. Previous to this, it was the expected DSL high speed throughput. I have a Cat 5 wired network, and other computers on the network don't have the problem. I've changed the hub to the network on my Mac; still slow. I've repaired privileges and observed CPU, memory, disk and network graphs on the Activity Monitor during internet access without seeing anything that smacks of the problem. Slow at startup and 4 hours later. The Mac acts the same when I'm on the road on a hotel's WiFi, etc. A PC laptop with XP and the same ISP login has no slowdown on my network, so I'm convinced the problem is in the Macbook Anyone experienced this and can give me help? I'm at the point that I'm going to have to quit using my Macbook.

My slow down in my home office is on a wired Cat5 connection, not wireless. Yesterday I had to work from corp offices, and connected both wired and wireless. Both were near instant download from the internet on all the corporate stuff and on my personal email, and web sites I tested which would seem to indicate there's nothing wrong on my Macbook. Yet, when I got home and tested again on my home network, my Mac had the old slow problem, but all the PCs with MSIE were OK. It's a puzzle. Has anyone figured this one out, or am I hallucinating.

  • How to share my internet connection on my macbook with my iPhone ?

Hi guys, Do you know how to share my internet connection on my macbook with my iPhone. I have already made my own network, and I allowed sharing Internet , but it didn't work. Can you help me , please?

If your carrier provides the service, go to Settings > General > Network > Personal Hotspot.  If you don't see the Personal Hotspot option, then your carrier does not support it.
Note that you'll have to pay for a 'tethering' data plan on top of your normal iPhone data plan.

  • Internet Connection Slow on Macbook Pro (Mid 2010)

All of the sudden, this past week, my internet has been running quite slow on my Macbook Pro.  This problem is with the Macbook itself and not with the internet connection (I have connected to various networks and my other wifi devices run well on them).  I am not experiencing a problem connecting to various networks, but only the internet speed on all my browsers is the issue.
Has anyone experienced this issue before?  Do you have a suggested remedy?
    Thanks for your help.

  • What is the best wireless internet connections for a Macbook

I have been trying to wirelessly connect a Macbook for internet connection. What is the best router that can be purchased for Macbook that will also work with a PC.

Yes, it shouldn't matter. I just picked up an Airport Express tonight - VERY easy to setup and works like a charm. One caution - Express is a wireless router ONLY. There are no additional wired ports on it for wired systems in your house. You'll take the cable that comes from your DSL modem out of your computer, and put into the port on the Express (if you already have a wired computer). If you need a wired/wireless router, you'll require the Extreme model.

  • Internet connection lost on Macbook Pro when PCs are connected.

Recently I running into very annoying problem, here it is:
I am using comcast cable internet, connected to Airport Extreme (802n) wan port via ethernet, I got 3 computers are using the same wireless network: one Macbook Pro and two PCs. If both PCs are off, I have no connection problems on Macbook Pro, but if either one of the PCs are on, the browsers on my Macbook Pro can't connect to internet, however, I can still receive emails on Macbook Pro. By the way, airport extreme are set to DHCP, all computers share one IP address. Airport extreme with most recent firmware 7.3.2 installed.
Any help are welcome and thank you in advance.

ddg57, Welcome to the discussion area!
By the way, airport extreme are set to DHCP, all computers share one IP address.
Each computer should have their own separate IP addresses. So I'm hoping that your statement above means:
    (1) The AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) uses DHCP to get an IP address from the ISP.
    (2) The AEBS is configured to share a single IP address (not bridging).
    (3) The computers are configured to get an IP address via DHCP (via wireless).

  • Problem with Dropped Internet Connections on AE/Macbook

I have a dual band Airport Extreme connected to Comcast Cable. I use a first generation Macbook to access the airport. The problem is that I keep on getting dropped Internet connections. The signal strength is shown at the top rhs of the screen as being full strength (4 bars).
If I swap out the router for a Linksys WRT54G, running DD-WRT, the combination works perfectly without any dropped Internet connections. Also, If I connect the Linksys to the AE with the Linksys acting as a wireless client repeating the signal, then I can connect the Macbook to the Linksys again without any dropped internet connections.
There is something about the Macbook connecting directly to the AE. It happens intemittantly but probably multiple times a day and is very inconvenient. The only way to get it back is to reboot the router or stop/start the aiport on the Macbook.
I have tried just about every possible setup on the AE including splitting the 2.4 and 5Ghz radios into two separate ssid's and changing the channels. I am using the latest AE firmware. I have also taken the AE back to the Apple store and they have swapped it for a new one.
I dont get the same issues with my windows clients or my ipad (although i have experienced issues while steaming video - but I think that may be a different issue).
Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Use the advice in this thread to investigate the signal and noise levels that the Mac sees:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2347845&start=1
What you may see if an increase in noise when the connection drops.
If that doesn't show anything useful, it might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".  Note that the fix this step implements may be temporary.
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( _not_ <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try.  Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.  If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.

  • Sharing Internet connection/Using a macbook as a wireless bridge/router?

I was wondering if it is possible to connect a computer, or more specifically an Xbox 360 or PS2, into the MacBook's Ethernet port. Then somehow use the MacBook's AirPort to connect to my wireless router. Thus, this would make my MacBook some sort of bridge to my wireless router, so I could use my gaming systems to the internet.
I would like my set-up to be the following
    PS2/XBox360 = Macbook >>> wireless >>> Router = Modem
I've explored the system preferences of Mac OSX, and noticed that in "Sharing," under the Internet Tab, there seems to be some way to share your connection. I've selected the options:
    "Share your connection from: AirPort"
    "To computers using: Built-in Ethernet"
My settings could be off, but it does not seem to work, although the description makes it seem entirely possible. If it does, this would save me money from having to try and buy another wireless router for my room, as we have no cable/Ethernet lines going to my second floor.
Any help on trying to figure this out, or reassure me if it does or doesn't work would be great. Thanks a lot!

  • Slow internet connection on my macbook pro

Ok so I am having some really weird problems with my internet. I got my macbook pro about one month ago, and couldn't get it to connect to my wireless internet at all. I finally figured out it needed to be WPN instead of WEP. It has worked great for a couple weeks, but now it is painfully slow. I have an old PC that works fine, as well as my girlfriends macbook pro. I have run speed test on all three computers wirelessly and though the ethernet cable. The other two computers are running around 10,000 kbps, and my computer is running between 200 and 2000. I have tried doing open DNS, and have had no luck that way. I am at a loss. Oh and the computer works fine every were else besides my house. So I have ruled out the cable internet, the router seems to work fine, and if I'm not at my house the computer works fine. Anyone have any suggestions. The people at Apple, Comcast, and Motorola, seem to be know help since each can claim their product is working fine.
    Thanks

I am having the same problem. I get out to another wireless system than the one at home and I have no problems. When I am at home I go to some sites slowly and have trouble getting some to even work. I know it is no the internet connection itself because I have many other computers on the network that work just fine. I even bridged the internet connection from the airport to the ethernet to another computer and that computer has no trouble with the internet. I do not know what the problem is but it is something in the software not the hardware because I have bootcamp on my MBP and when I am in windows mode I have no internet troubles. SO just to let you know you are not the only one who is having these troubles.
At home I am using Charter Cable Internet and a Time Capsule for a router. I do not believe that these are the problems because I do not have any troubles on my older Mac computers and I do not have any trouble with my windows based systems. I have had times where the internet seams to work fine at home and then later it does not work so well. I also encountered this same problem at one of the hotels I stayed at recently. Because of this I know that it is not the internet but the MBP I purchased a couple of months ago. It is something to do with the computer using the information and presenting it on screen to us. I do not know what it is but I know the problem is there.

  • Slow Internet connection sharing on Macbook Pro

    Hi all,
I am experiencing really slow internet connection sharing via the airport from a second machine directly. I can access the internet or web pages with excellent reliability however the download/upload speed is 20KB/s at best. If I use the Macbook Pro itself I can get up to 250KB/sec. I read that this seems to be common problem with Snow Leopard. Can someone shed some light on this?
    Thanks

I bought a Macbook Pro recently. It loses wi-fi internet connectivity every now and then. I have disabled iCloud , Dropbox sync. Any help is appreciated.

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select

  • How do I connect my airport Express to the internet connection of my Macbook Pro without an ethernet cable?

I would like to use my Airport Express (802.11n) to provide audio in another room for a pair of powered speakers, however the iTunes remote software for Android requires (for some dumb reason) an internet connection so I can't control iTunes
So my computer is connected to a cabelmodem via ethernet and the Express has established a network connection with the computer
How do i give the Airport internet access without an ethernet cable?

To share your Internet connection from your laptop, select 'Sharing' in 'System Preferences' and enable 'Internet Sharing'.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13855
You will need to set a WEP key. You may need to root the system do some things at the command line. I recommend against that.
Laptops don't work well as routers but it is possible.
Hook up the AirPort express to the laptop using an Ethernet cable and configure with the AirPort utility as if you are setting up a print server or base station. The Android should see the AirPort Express after that.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4587
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2312443
This might work better if you used the AirPort Express as a base station instead of trying to use the laptop as a base station. Then your Android would have Internet access.

  • HT201321 im having inconsistent internet connection on my macbook pro. But my other computers doesn't had this problem.do you guys had the same problem? after turning the wifi on and off, i'll have the connection again

Im having inconsistent internet connection with my macbookpro 13 inch. But if I turn off my wifi and turnit on again, it will come back again. Anyone had this problem?

    Sig,
Thanks for the advice. I finally tried a solution after doing nothing. LoL. What I did do was change the channel the router was on from 9 to 7. I think I've done something like this in the past when I had slow internet and that worked out well too. I thought that would help and so far so good. Not an interruption so far but we shall see. To the guy or girl who expressed that they had the same problem as me I would try changing the channel of your router like I did. I will monitor the situation and see if it totally solved my problem or not and keep this thread updated. Thanks people

  • Internet connectivity problems with Macbook Pro, mid 2012.

I have a Macbook Pro, mid 2012, running OS 10.8.5. My able to access the Internet is intermittent, both with Ethernet or Wifi. When I check Network settings, it indicates that I am connected, even though I cannot access the Internet.  I have to restart the compute to gain access again, which doesn't last. I've taken it to the local Apple Store.  They ran thorough diangostics tests which found no hardware problems.  I have done complete clean reinstalls of the OS as well.  I also have frequent Kernel Panic restarts.  I have no problems connecting through my router for my Imac via Ethernet, and wirelessly for a Windows laptop and smartphones and iPod.  Any suggstions out there?
