Loading date format (Hijra)

Hi all,
We have a Date field which is in the format YYMMDD (Hijra).
Can anyone tell us how to load the specific field by SQL* Loader (setting the NLS Parameters).
Our database is in Western European Character set.
Do we need to change the Character set in order to load the above date format.

Hai I am very much new to Oracle. I am trying to load data into a table using SQL*Loader and i getting error while it is using the data format.
the format used in data file is "Sep 6 2001 12:00:00:000AM"
and when i used to_date( :accountDate, 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM or PM') function it throws me an exception like
"ORA-01821: date format not recognized". so anybody can help me to insert data with out changing the data file, whould be really helpfull

Also it looks like you need to change your date format mask.
If your data is formatted as "Sep 6 2001 12:00:00:000AM"
then you should use to_date( :accountDate, 'Mon DD YYYY HH:MI:SSAM')
This will work with a two digit second field, but not a three digit second field.

I'm using SQL*Loader to import semi-colon separated values into a table. The files are delivered to us by a data provider who concatenates data from different sources and this results in us having different date formats within the same file. For example:
...;2010-12-31;22/11/1932;...
I load this data using the following lines in the control file:
EXECUTIONDATE1 TIMESTAMP NULLIF EXECUTIONDATE1=BLANKS "TO_DATE(:EXECUTIONDATE1, 'YYYY-MM-DD')",
DELDOB TIMESTAMP NULLIF DELDOB=BLANKS "TO_DATE(:DELDOB, 'DD/MM/YYYY')",
The relevant NLS parameters:
NLS_LANGUAGE=FRENCH
NLS_DATE_FORMAT=DD/MM/RR
NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE=FRENCH
If I load this file as is the values loaded into the table are 31 dec 2010 and 22 nov *2032*, aven though the years are on 4 digits. If I change the NLS_DATE_FORMAT to DD/MM/YYYY then the second date value will be loaded correctly, but the first value will be loaded as 31 dec *2020* !!
How can I get both date values to load correctly?

This is very strange, after running a few tests I realized that if the year is 19XX then it will get loaded as 2019, and if it is 20XX then it will be 2020. I'm guessing it may have something to do with certain env variables that aren't set up properly because I'm fairly sure my SQL*Loader control file is correct... I'll run more tests :-(

How to handle Multiple date formats for the same date field in SQL*Loader

Dear All,
I got a requirement where I need to get data from a text file and insert the same into oracle table.
I am using SQL*Loader to populate the data from the text file into my table.
The file has one field where I am expecting date date data in multiple formats, like dd/mon/yyyy, yyyy/dd/mon, yyyy/mon/dd, ,mm/dd/yyyy, mon/dd/yyyy.
While using SQL*Loader, I can see Loading is failing for records where we have formats like yyyy/dd/mon, yyyy/mon/dd, mon/dd/yyyy.
Is there any way in SQL*Loader where we can mention all these date formats so that this date data should go smoothly into the underlying date column in the table.

The point being made was, are you sure that you can uniquely identify a date format from the value you receieve? Are you sure that the data stored is only of a particular limited set of formats?
e.g. if you had a value of '07/08/03' how do you know what format that is?
It could be...
7th August 2003 (thus assuming it's DD/MM/RR format)
or
8th July 2003 (thus assuming it's MM/DD/RR format)
or
3rd August 2007 (thus assuming it's RR/MM/DD format)
or
8th March 2007 (thus assuming it's RR/DD/MM format)
or even more obscurely...
3rd July 2008 (MM/RR/DD)
or
7th March 2008 (DD/RR/MM)
Do you have any information to tell you what formats are valid that would allow you to be specific and know what date format is meant?
This is a classic example of why dates should be stored on the database using DATE datatype and not VARCHAR2. It can lead to corruption of data, especially if the date can be entered in any format a user wishes.

Error in date format when I load a CSV file

I am using Oracle G10 XE and I am trying to load data into my database from comma separated files.
When I load the data from a CSV file which has the date with the following format "DD/MM/YYYY", I received the following error "ORA-01843: not a valid month".
I have the NSL_LANG set to AMERICAN. I have tried the following command: "ALTER SESSION SET NLS DATE FORMAT="DD/MM/YYYY" and this does nothing. When I try to run "SELECT SYSDATE "NOW" FROM DUAL;" I get the date in this format "10-NOV-06".
I will appreciate any help about migrating my data with date fields in format DD//MM/YYYY.

Hi,
Before loading into staging, you can use Expression operator to convert the CHAR into DATE with something like this:
TO_DATE('01-02-2005','MM-DD-YYYY')

Problem in loading 0calday infoobject date format through Flatfile in cube

Hi All,
I am facing problem in loading the 0calday infoobject data through flat file( format - test.csv) in infocube..
Suppose consider we are having two flat files(test1.csv,test2.csv).
1.First file(test1.csv) has a proper date format (ie YYYYMMDD), while loading it is succesfully .
2.Second file(test2.csv) has improper date format(ie DDMMYYYY), loading fails because of this format..
Is it possible to write the Routine(Start Routine) in the Infopackage (External data-Tab) in such a way the if the flat file(test1.csv) is proper date format load calday data without any conversion, if the file is test2.csv convert the date field format from (DDMMYYYY) to (YYYYMMDD) and finally laod data in cube.

There is no distinguishing field between the two flat file loads.
We are using only one infoobject(ie 0calday) for two loads.
We are using two external source system(one system generate file as YYYYMMDD date format,and another system generate date formate as DDMMYYY, here two file names are unique.
Here my requirement is i have to compare two file names using start routine of the package (tab:External data) .
if(test1.csv)
load as it is 0calday data (since it is in proper format YYYYMMDD)
else if(test2.csv)
then convert from DDMMYYYY to YYYYMMDD and load data to 0calday infoobject in cube.
Is it possible to compare two files names using start routine.

Date Format in SQL Loader

Dear All,
I have a table CMS_HO where I have defined different columns. One column is of date type STATUS_DATE. I want to upload one ASCII file where one field is in the format like below:
5/26/2008 12:41
5/26/2008 8:51
5/28/2008 9:01
5/28/2008 13:54
5/13/2008 10:45
4/6/2008 9:21
I want to upload file into Oracle database. Currently I am using following control file:
LOAD DATA
INTO TABLE CMS_HO TRUNCATE
FIELDS TERMINATED BY "\t"
TRAILING NULLCOLS
( ID,EXPIRYDATE, VER, SN, STATUS_DATE)
There seems error in the STATUS_DATE field in control file. Can any one help how to modify this Control file so that data against this field can be uploaded into date format please?

Date format in Matrix loaded by DataTable is shown as 20080319

Hello,
I've loaded most of our matrixes with DataTables. No problems up to now. Also date columns where shown in correct B1 GUI format.
But now with a new matrix the date is 'suddenly' shown as '20080319'. When I view at B1 system information (at the bottom of B1) the column is described correctly with B1 GUI format:
U_DateEndPr (Date)
19.03.2008 [Form....Item..., U_DatEndPr]
I've made a test (one of many):
I've loaded the 'problem-matrix' with some columns (including one date column) from another DataTable which works correctly on another Matrix/Pane.
The result is the same:
In the first (correct working) matrix (pane 1) the date is 19.03.2008 and
in the second matrix 20080319
Is there something wrong with the matrix itself?
I have absolutly no idea where my fault is.
Does anybody made the same or similar experiences?

Hello Petr,
for the test which I've made i can say yes: I've loaded the problem-DataTable with the same query as the working dataTable.
The only difference is:
The problem-matrix has less columns than the working matrix. So I couldn't bound the problem.-DataTable/Matrix to all of the query result columns.
Another hint:
The Date format '20080319' looks like the result of SDK-ValueEx (B1-DB-Format-String)
In another column beside '20080319' there's a double-value. This is shown with the correct decimal-separator of B1 (I've changed decimal sep. to '#' for test. The columns ar shown as:
'20080319' | 142#89
...so the second column is displayed correctly but the date format is still wrong...
And:
I get the same result when I do the problem-DataTable bind to exactly the same dataTable-UID as of the working DataTable.
So at the moment I suppose that the error is in the Matrix-Object. Because both matrixes are loaded by the same DataTable (for trial) and only one of them shows wrong date-format.
I forgot:
The form with the problem-matrix was made with a 2 years old screenpainter. Althogh I've made changes on the form with a actual screenpainter - could this be a problem?
Hmm, but I don't think so because on another pane and matrix of the same old form the date works corectly...

SQL*LOADER and date formatted data

Hi there, I don't want to load complex things in my table - just a simple date....
The control file is:
load data
infile 'c:\data\mydata.csv'
into table test_table
fields terminated by "," optionally enclosed by '"'
( sampledate, name )
The mydata.csv file is:
30-12-2003, Test1
31-12-2003, Test2
However this format is not being accepted by the database... I tried other combinations of date (eg, 30122003, 20-DEC-2003, 30/12/2004, etc...) but always had a 'data error'

The format is standard UTC
YYYY-MM-DDTHH24:MI:SS±HH:MM Where the ±HH:MM refers to time zone offset from GMT. The "T" is just a separator between date and time (and is always "T").
I looked at your references, and tried a few dozen variants without success.
Most of my attempts have been using something similar to this
"YYYY-MM-DDTHH24:MI:SSTZH:TZM"
or this:

SQL Loader Error : ORA-01830: date format picture ends before converting en

I am inserting following data
BES101706     M.E. Deals     7     10/17/2006
through control file :
LOAD DATA
APPEND
INTO TABLE abc_temp
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ' '
TRAILING NULLCOLS
(BATCH_NAME               ,
SUPPLIER_NAME          ,
SUPPLIER_NBR          ,
INV_DATE "to_date(substr(:INV_DATE,1,10),'MM/DD/YYYY' )"
But I am getting this error:
ORA-01830: date format picture ends before converting entire input string
inv_data is a date field in the database.

I think it has to do with data format.Exactly.
You have
BES101706*M.E.*Deals*7*10/17/2006
I replace each space with an asterisk. You have 5 columns according to your spec (terminated by '<space>')
SQL Loader doesn't know that M.E. Deals is the supplier name.
It's trying to convert 7 as the date.
