Mavericks... Safari... One tab fills the entire bar, so I can't drag a link to create a new tab. Help?
Okay, so I just downloaded Mavericks from the App Store... Upgraded from Snow Leopard, I should add. There's a multitude of problems regarding scrolling and such (the scrollbar sometimes doubles back a bit when I'm scrolling; the google search engine page sometimes locks up and doesn't scroll at all, etc). However, the worst problem has to be the tabs bar. I enabled the tabs bar in View > Show Tab Bar; unfortunately, when I open up a new window, go to a page and try dragging a link to the tabs bar, it won't open that page in a new tab. It asks if I'm sure I want to leave the page. I'm not about to start dragging each link into the utmost right corner, position it on the "+" sign, and make new tabs that way.
Is there a workaround for this? Any way to decrease the size of that initial tab?
I just noticed command-click is a setting in Safari's Preferences. I believe it's the default setting, but perhaps yours is not set.
Open Preferences in Safari (under Safari in the Menu Bar). Choose the "Tabs" tab on top. Check the box that says "command click opens a link in a new tab". (Actually, the command symbol is shown instead of the word.)

Why is it that in these newer versions of Firefox (I have 21.0), when I open a link that I've saved, it does NOT display the URL in the address bar any more?
I can't drag and drop the link into an email, and I can't see the actual web address I'm connected to for reference OR for security purposes. Why was this changed?
It becomes necessary to reveal the properties of the URL link I've saved, using the Windows "Properties", then copying and pasting the URL into the Firefox address bar, before I can do anything with it.No changes have been made and no problem with extensions has interfered with the URL appearing in Firefox before. Only with the last few new versions of Firefox has this cropped up. Also, the link opens correctly - it just doesn't display the URL in the address bar, instead it just reads (in gray) "Search or enter address." How could another extension interfere if Firefox is the sole program associated with .htm, .html files?

CS6 (Windows) My Images are not filling the entire program window
My sequence is set to 1920x1080 and I have imported some images (Tiff's) into it that are of the resolution. Yet, when I go to those images in the timeline, they are not filling the entire available space. The entire image is being displayed, but it is supposed to fill the entire screen. You can see for yourself with this image attachments.
Ideas?OK, the Default Scale to Frame Size box was unchecked, I checked it.

I understand what you are saying about pixel depth, but 1920 x 1080 is still the width and height of the image and the image and sequence both show the same width and height, think that I should not get what I am getting here.
I checked the "Modify|Interpret Footage" option and the radio button is set to "Use Pixel Ratio From File: Square Pixels (1.0)" and changed it to Conform to Square Pixels (1.0) and still have the same results.
This is not happening with just one image, it is happening with all of them. If I bring in an image that is 3840x2160 (200%) and then set the scale to 50%, I still get the same black space. So, it is either fill the screen and cut off some of the displayed image or live with black space. There is just something wrong here I am not seeing. -
Safari problem: when I switch back into safari from another application, the menu bar comes up but no tabs or windows. What's going on? Just started yesterday. I have found a workaround: when I Command Tab back to safari, I hit command T to open a new tab and Command W to close it, and my other tabs are visible.
I have tried shutting down, closing tabs, with no success. What's going on and how can I fix it?

PS: I'm not sure of the actual OS level, but I have not allowed it to upgrade to Maverick yet; concerned about it because of a few things I've read...A Safari extension or third party plugin may be causing the menu bar issue.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
As for which OS X is installed.
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
The version is noted there.

It's your choice whether or not to upgrade to Mavericks. If you decide to do this, make sure your Mac meets the requirements noted here. -

I've read numerous threads with this Safari pinwheeling theme, but none of the posted solutions I've found work for me.
The problem:
Safari will almost always on opening, and frequently when filling in forms on websites, start pinwheeling. The whole system then slows down, and then eventually freezes. Even the dock bar freezes. When this happens, I can't even bring up the Force Quit bar. The freezing will often last several minutes, then all of a sudden, all my various previously ignored mouse and key clicks cycle through. When Force Quit finally starts, then everything freezes again. Eventually, Force Quit will show Safari as not responding, and once in a while the system then will start responding, but usually I have to kill Safari.
The problem subsided a little bit on the opening the application problem when I switched my start page from Apple.com to Google.com, thinking that maybe it was just too much graphics crap coming in on the Apple site.
The problem happens on both my Airport and cell modem network connections.
I may have seen this behavior once with Firefox, but haven't been able to reproduce it.
Generally I only have a few things running: Excel, Messenger, Safari.
Things I've tried to fix this:
Reset Safari
Clear Safari Cache
Delete Safari folder in the system cache folder
Went into the Energy Saver in Preferences and unchecked, "put disk to sleep when not in use" for both the battery and power adpater settings
Limit number of tabs open
I'd try restarting Safari occasionally, but the problem usually happens on opening.
I've emptied the trash, and made sure there is ample open disk space (10gb right now).
Resolved duplicate fonts.
I have no third party apps to affect Safari or networking.
I've reset the machine by unplugging it and holding the power button.
My computer is a MacBookPro 15" with all the latest software and firmware updates and 2gb RAM. This has become so frustrating, it's been very tempting to just throw the laptop at the wall and go back to my Windows laptop...I'd say the bad blocks were behind the problems you were seeing. Their existence points to either a defective HD, or directory corruption. The latter usually can be repaired by using a Utility such as Disk Warrior, or as you did, reformatting the drive.
Best approach to minimizing directory problems is to do routine maintenance twice a month. Have a look at this MacWorld article for suggestions.
For routine maintenance I use OnyX. There is no charge for the software, but I believe the developer asks for a donation.
It's very easy to use. I run it twice a month. Once it is installed, you would double click on the OnyX icon in your application folder (or drag an icon to your dock for quick access) to open the application. After entering your administrator password, you would select "automation". The panel looks like this:
Select the same items I have checked. The program takes about 5 to 10 minutes to run. Leave your computer alone, that is, don't use it for anything else until OnyX is finished. Once complete, restart the computer and you're good to go.
Lastly, the most effective maintenance is having a full backup of your system on an external hard drive. All machines fail eventually, despite the best maintenance. If you had a hard drive failure without any backup, then you would lose all your information, including documents, images, songs, etc. Not a pretty picture.
For your system, you would purchase either a USB or Firewire Drive for your new Intel Machine. The key here is creating a "clone" backup on the drive, which you back up regularly, or at least once a week. For the backup process I use SuperDuper. Very easy to use. The initial backup takes about 1 to 2 hours. Subsequent backups take 5 to 10 minutes. Total $$$ investment can be anywhere between $100 - $250 depending on the size of your Hard Drive.

Safari window not filling the screen when launched
I posted this question in the Safari forum and after a week of waiting and numerous bumps, it went unanswered and completely ignored so I thought I'd post it here. Basically what I am trying to do is have the Safari windows automatically fill the screen so that the scroll bar is at the *extreme* right side of the screen, but it always comes just short of that. The reason why this is important is I want to be able to make one quick swipe of my mouse to the right side of the screen and have the cursor end up over the Safari window's scroll bar. But the windows never open up like that, they open up just short of filling the screen so when I move my mouse to the side, it overshoots the scroll bar which is annoying because I have to drag it there manually every time. How do I fix this?
Here is how I want it. Notice the scroll bar with no space to its right.
But here is what it ends up doing. Notice there is now a tiny bit of space to the right of the scroll bar. This tiny space forces me to be careful with the mouse cursor and will not allow me to freely swipe the mouse cursor to the right or it will overshoot the scroll bar. Of course, I can drag the window back to the spot every time I open a new window, but that gets very annoying. -
How do I get SD video (4:3 aspect ratio) to fill the entire screen?
Any 4:3 video I stream has black bars on either side of the picture. I have a Samsung HDTV, and I can stream content using its own pc to tv streaming software and 4:3 videos fill the entire screen. Or if I play a DVD with 4:3 aspect ratio that will also automatically fill the screen. With the Apple TV I cannot make it fill the entire screen. Is this something to do with the signal being transmitted over an HDMI cable?
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how have you resolved it?I know it is displaying 4:3 video correctly, however I'd prefer if there was some stretching (non-linear) so that it fills the entire screen. Having 2 big black bars on either side gets very annoying. There doesnt seem to be an option to fill the entire screen when streaming from the apple tv. There are options when streaming from Samsung's own software (I don't want to use samsungs pc share manager as the apple tv's user interface is much better).
Are my options restricted because the signal is transmitted through an hdmi cable? Seems to be what other websites might be suggesting. -
I use a Imac with OS 10.6.7. I've just uploaded Firefox 4. I had Firefox 3 already but do not use it often. I've been using Safari. I imported bookmarks from Safari to Firefox, but the bookmarks bar in Firefox did not change to match that of Safari, and that's where the important bookmarks are. Any ideas?
Also, I can't find where to choose Firefox as my default browser.Copy the files from the old Profile into the new Profile, replacing the existing files that are in the new Profile. That will make your new installation just like the old one.
Or if you just want your bookmarks, copy only the '''places.sqlite''' file from the old Profile into the new Profile. -

How to set a background image to fill the entire screen on any device in a spark mobile application

I started developing a mobile application with Flex.
I'm trying to set a background image to fill the whole screen. I've been stucked at this point for days now. I tried everything and no solution seems to work for me.
I'm using a TabbedViewNavigatorApplication and i need to set some background images on views.
I need my image to fill the entire screen on any device. i don't need to mantain image aspect ratio, just need it to be fullscreen. This seemed to work when setting a custom skin on the TabbedViewNavigatorApplication, however this blocked all my views for some reason and all components contained in view became invisible.
Can you please tell me how can i achieve this?

DanBasically you need a larger image which can accommodate any device. The trick is to show only what each device can display, so therefore some clipping will occur based on device. Have something centered and towards margins have a gradient or just plane colors that way the stuff in the middle will be visible on every device while nobody will care if you are clipping from the color fill.

In iTunes 11.0.2.26, an Albums search by track names returns albums as if they only have one track on them, but I still want to access the entire album. How can I have the search results show the entire album (with just the searched for name highlighted)? For instance, I'm wanting to play an album with a particular track on it or I'm searching for albums that include that track. iTunes incorrectly assumes that all I'm after is that one track and then incorrectly displays the album as if there is only one ttrack on it. This is a bonkers default setting. Can I change this?Click the search magnifying glass and uncheck "Search entire library".
Type in the name of the track.
Click the album of interest to show tracks.
Select the track.
Press the X in the search box to clear the search.
Double click the track you want to start playing first.

Todays update! After todays update I can no longer send Safari or Spotify to the task bar without it cutting out (dropping audio in and out). Streams normally if I keep the window open on my desktop. This needs to be fixed immediately.
