Migration from Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server
I am working on migrating Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 from Old server to new server. We have db around 500 GB and 3 schemas. I installed Oracle 10G on new server, created tablespaces, schema's blah blah and now doing export and import at schema level from old server to new server.
Import is taking more than 4 to 5 hours on new server. My manager is saying, window time is bit longer and he wants me to try possiblities to make this process faster. Can some one help me on this, to use the best possible method to complete this process faster?
Will below step work, if I try?
If I install, oracle 9i and 10g both on new server in different home directories and take the hot backup from old machine and restore on new machine in 9i home directory and use the upgrade configuration assistant from 10g and do the upgrade? Pls advice.
Thanks in advance,
Hari babu

It looks good.
I have one question in below steps:
To migrate an Oracle9i or older database to an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database for 64-bit Windows:
1 Perform steps 1 - 11 in "Migrating an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) Database".
2 Shut down the database on the 64-bit computer:
SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
3 Start the database migration:
SQL> STARTUP MIGRATE;
4 Migrate the database as described in Chapter 3, "Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle Database 10g Release" in Oracle Database Upgrade Guide.
In step 4, it says, migrate database as described in chapter 3. In chapter 3, it says, to do the upgrade the process using dbca or manually. Pls confirm whether do the upgrade process after issuing startup migrate or not.
Thanks in advance.

Oracle 10g install on Windows 2003 Server 32-bit
As far as I can tell there doesn't appear to be an Oracle10g download for 10.2.0.4 for Windows 2003 Server. It looks like you have to download 10.2.0.1 for Windows then apply the patch to bring it up to 10.2.0.4. Am I seeing this correctly or am I missing something?

Indeed you are; your eyes are definitely not lying to you. 10.2.0.4 is a patchset which can only be applied to an already existing Oracle Home.
You might want to try and understand a little bit more about what the 10.2.0.4 means by accessing the links below.

I have detect this problem, after trying to install a php-application on this server. The installtion of this application works fine, i can install the tables and the init-entrys. I also get the first page of this application one times. On the first call, the application writes a clob in ohne table. I have detect, that the application cant read this clob in php. Migration from 8.1.7.4.1 to 10g R2 on Windows 2000
I am trying to do a migration and I think I might be out of physical memory do to the installer will not launch. My exp in windows is limited and I need to know how I can check to see if this server has enough memory. Please let me know.
Thank YouOn Windows, the first tab of Control Panel > System will display the total memory in the system, and the 'Advanced' tab > environment settings will show and allow the setting of virtual memory (swap file).
The Task Manager, often right-click on the task bar at the bottom, or Ctrl-Alt-Delete (once), in the Performance tab will show the current memory usage. -
Oracle 10g crashes Windows 2003 server (bluescreen)
Hello,
i have a problem that Oracle 10G crashes my Windows 2003 Server. All components are up-to-date and it is a certified system setup. The database worked well for months, but three days ago when our staff went to a workshop, I shut down the machine, and when we came back yesterday I just powered it up again (no changes have been done in the meantime).
The boot procedure ended up at a bluescreen, I tried two more times with the same result. I was able to deactivate many services to narrow down the error cause. It came out that the starting of the OracleDBConsoleorcl service causes the bluescreen :
BAD_POOL_CALLER 0x000000C2 (0x00000044,0x00000000,0x80000000,0x00000000) . This is re-producable, I just have to switch on that service and it will bluescreen the machine.
The strange thing is, that the OracleServiceORCL is working fine, I can even use SQL-Plus and RMAN to get to the data, but without the OracleDBConsoleorcl the Enterprise manager doesnt work anymore, and our applications also cannot connect to the database. I´ve looked up the error on google, it seems to be an error in addressing memory. Anyway, the database worked fine for weeks and I wonder why I cant get it back into business anymore. Right now, i´m lost. Anybody know what to do with this error ?It turned out to be an error in the Windows 2003 OS-Kernel. Every install/uninstall of programs immediately leads to a bluescreen. Luckily, this can be solved with a hotfix from microsoft (you gotta email them to get it, it is not public yet). The corresponding article in the microsoft knowledge base is http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;888431
It will install a new ntoskrnl.exe and the problem is solved afterwards (oracle DB starts again, and also the other install/uninstall problems are solved). Hint : Boot to safe mode and then install the hotfix, if you just start the hotfix it will bluescreen right when you click onto the hotfix. -
Problem Oracle 10g database Installation on Windows 2003 Server
Hi All,
I am trying to face some problem to install oracle 10g database on windows 2003 server with service pack 2. Once I start to installation it give me an error "Error in writing to directory 'c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\orainstall2004xxx'. Please ensure that this directory is writable and has at least 45MB of disk space. Installation cannot continue"
I double-insured that there is enough disk-space and I am also in the Administrators-Group.
Please guide me for the above problem although I have done oracle 9i database installation with the same configuration.

As well as reading the documentation thoroughly the following note available in My Oracle Support may be useful -

Migration from Sybase 11.9.1 to Oracle 7.3.4
Does the Oracle Migration Workbench 1.2.2 support database migration from Sybase 11.9.1 to Oracle 7.3.4?
If not, is there any work-around or any other tool? Can we still use Migration Workbench for this migration?
Thanks. It is probably best to use the latest version of the workbench (1.2.5.0.0). Migration to 7.3 is not supported but should work except for the newer features, for example use long instead of blob and clob, and do not use 8i temporary tables.

Oracle 10g Universe Connectivity From 64bit Windows 2003 Server
Hi,
Have an existing BO XI 3.1 environment built on a 64 bit Windows 2003 server and
I'm having problems getting it to communicate with Oracle 10g universes. Works fine
with its SQL Server 2005 repository and SQL Server 2005 relational/olap universes, but
cant seem to get it to work with Oracle.
Universes work fine on the 32 bit development environment talking to the same Oracle
database, but when move them to 64 bit testing environment they all fail with
Oracle ora-12154 errors.
32 bit Oracle client is installed and can communicate fine with other products using ODBC
connections from the server - but BO refuses to communicate.
Any ideas other than reinstalling BO under 'Program Files' rather than 'Program Files (x86)'
as I've seen some references on the web about this possibly being a problem?
Thanks.Hi,
Oracle 32 bit and 64 bit connectivity work fine from the server. The problem seems to
relate to bug 3807408 in Oracle 10g that cant handle parentheses in directory names.
So BO being installed in u2018C:\Program Files (x86)\Business Objectsu2019 causes it to get
rather annoyed.
SAP Note 1202730 does cover this, but our DBA's aren't too keen on installing the
suggested patch. I'm also not very keen on reinstalling BO in a different directory as
we've got working production sites that would have to be rebuilt.
So now investigating whether using the Oracle 11g client will resolve this.
MSDN forum topic http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/ab662d63-6385-4f73-b27f-d526048f601f/ gives a pretty good overview of what people have been trying to resolve this. -

plz respond asaphi sm,
this seems to be an issue with the rights of the user and the DB install. check is the TNS is up and running and that the SIDADM has fill access to it. Also , have you checked the latest PAM. why are you trying to implement EP6 right now? I would suggest to go for EP7.0

Oracle 9i 32 bit ON Windows 2003 server 32 bit
Hi all
I have oracle 9i 32 bit istalled on HP server with windows 2003 server 32 bit, 8GB ram.
I am trying to increase oracle memory size (SGA + PGA),
but when I exceed 2GB for (SGA + PGA) it gives me error (ORA-27102 : out of memory)
Is it because the windows 32bit ?
How to manage this issue? The maximum amount of memory that can be allocated on a Windows Server 2003 is 4 Gb.
If you have Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, it supports 32 GB of physical RAM and Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition supports 64 Gb by means of the Physical Address Extensions (PAE) feature.
You should declare the 3 Gb switch that is in the Boot.ini file with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 so it addresses more than 2Gb. So verify which windows 2003 server edition are you currently using.

Moving oracle 9i database from windows 2000 to windows 2003 server
hi everybody,
plz provide me a solution how to move oracle 9i database from windows 2000 server to windows 2003 server with step by step and also with commands plz as i am very new to oracle
thanks in advance
sureshInstall 9i on windows 2003 server and patch to the same level as the Oracle on Windows 2k
Shutdown and make a cold backup of your old database. That includes datafiles, controlfiles, redo files, init file (spfile)
Copy and put these files to the exact same directory structure/location, for example if old file is under D:\oradata\mysid\ then the file on new file should be under same directory. (If you are using Network Storage that make things easier, just mapping to the same drive letter.)
Also make sure archive log dest and all dump dest directories are created. You don't have to copy all old logs and dump files over.
Use oradim to create a new service for the database instance
http://www.psoug.org/reference/oradim.html
Set proper ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID envionment varibles
Run netca to configure listener, actually copy listener.ora and tnsnames.ora to $ORACLE_HOME\network\admin will do
Try to start the database
