Opening MS Office files (Word, Excel etc) in Mail on iPad

Have a new iPad so please forgive me if I ask the obvious ...
Most my clients are on MS Office so when I get an email with a Word or Excel file, it's a problem as the iPad transfers it into a winmail.dat file which I can't open.  I've downloaded the following Apps in the hope it would help but, it doesn't.
Downloaded so far: Keynote, Pages, Documents 2, PDFReaderLite, File Viewer and DocsToGo.
Help!

I should further say the files I sent are .xlsx and .docx files.  They look fine my end and I send such files all the time without problems.
However, I did try to cheat by going in via the Safari onto my 'live' online email account and the Safari automatically transfers them to winmail.dat files with the same result.
Ahh - have just been on using my PC this time and you are right, it seems that the service provider does the transfer and then when my outlook opens the file (on the PC), it must reconvert to .xlsx etc again.
Very strange.
Ergo, I guess the question should be how I open wimail.dat files ??

  • Convert powerpoint slide with embedded file (word, excel, etc) to pdf

    Hi all,
I have a word document or excel spreadsheet that I added as an object into the power point slide.
How can i convert powerpoint slide to PDF but still able to open the file when i click file icon.
So far the result I have once the slide is in PDF, I can't no longer click the file to open it.
    Thank you.

    Hi Joel,
The feature you are looking for, is currently not available in Acrobat.
But you can create an interactive link (to open Word/Excel) using Acrobat. Please look at the following link:

  • HT1343 how can I open an empty file (Word, Excel, Texedit, ...) in a given folder that is already open on my desktop ?

I would like to open empty files (especially Office) directly in a sub-folder I am already working in, without searching and browsing the path in the "Save as ... " command. Does anybody knows how to do that ?

The .ascm file format is a standard that was agreed upon by the industry
some ten or more years ago, and it's used by most, if not all, of the
epublication programs that are in use now.  That includes the Overdrive
software that libraries stateside use most of the time.  If you're having
this issue with more than one library, I'd check out one other area before
I give up.  If you have Windows 7 as your operating system, some of its
security settings can prevent the library software from activating ADE on
your computer.  I'm an XP person, so I can't pinpoint which ones to look
at, but there are others reading the blog that may be able to help you.
The library's technical support people may be able to help also.
You're incorrect on expecting ADE to find the ,ascm file on your computer.
That file should exist only during the transfer, and I believe that there
are some expiration parameters inside the file, so you have only a small
window of time to use it.  Remember that this file type is only a 'pointer'
    - it's not an ebook.
Bottom line?  This issue is quite rare on the forum, and there are
literally thousands of other users who don't have this issue.  It's not the
product.  If you are indeed 'fed up' with the ADE experience, you can look
into other epublication management software: Bluefire Reader, Overdrive
(which most libraries seem to use) and Calibre would be possibilities.
    Hope this helps!

  • PDFs,word,excel etc

Ive  been given a Ipad through work and want to transfer all my ,PDFs ,word/Excel files on to it.Ive just tried a PDF and used iBooks to view it
    1) Is there a all-in-one  App that i can use to view PDFs,word, excel etc
    2) On my Laptop ive  grouped files/docs into Different Areas i visit IE:
London Folder = 2x PDF 3x Excel  10x word docs
Hampshire Folder 4x PDF 1X Excel 7x Word
Can i do this on the ipad or do all the PDFs get associated with 1 app and all the Word docs with another app??
Sorry im new to this ,ive had a iphone but only used it for Calls/text/photos and Browsing/FB
    thanks

There are apps that support multiple document formats e.g. GoodReader 4 supports (read-only) PDFs, text files, images, and word and excel documents - from their help pages on their website, http://www.goodreader.com/gr-man-view-other.html :
For file types that are not covered by our own advanced viewing engines, we use standard built-in viewing engine, which should be familiar to you from your Safari application experience. When you open any file in Safari, you activate the same viewing engine that we use for the following file types: Microsoft Office files - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML files and Safariwebarchives, iWork files - Pages, Numbers, Keynote.
Please note that the built-in viewer doesn't support very large MS Office files. If your MS Office file crashes built-in viewing engine, we suggest to convert it to a PDF file. PDF files of huge sizes are easily handled by GoodReader using our own advanced viewing engine.
That app also allows you to create folders within it, so you can have separate folders for your areas.

  • Word, Excel, etc not opening

    Hi there,
I have been having a few problems with opening Microsoft Office applications on my mac.  Firstly, the word icon kept disappearing from my dock.  I tried deleting the dock plist files and also the microsoft office plist files from library - preferences following advice from an online forum.
I've also done a hard drive disk utility repair.
Now, none of the microsoft office applications work (word, excel, etc).
The error message I get includes this:

Please post Office related questions on Microsofts own forums for their Apple products as Apple Communities only provide support for Apple products
With all due respect, I disagree most vigorously.
I can find nothing like this either in the Apple Support Communities Terms of Use, or in the Community etiquette. I quote from the latter:
"Apple Support Communities exists to enable community members to help each other get the most out of their Apple products and services."
In my book, helping a community member to use Microsoft Word (or any other legal third party software) effectively on his Mac certainly qualifies as helping him to get the most out of his Apple product.
To my mind, there are only two further points.
    (1) Has the question been posted in the right forum? That's significant, because posting in the wrong forum creates noise. For instance, posting in the Lion forum a question about using MS Word under Snow Leopard creates noise, because the correct answer for Lion may be very different from the correct answer for SL.
In our specific instance, the OP erred in posting a software question (using MS Office under SL) in a forum dedicated primarily to a specific hardware platform (MacBook Pro). The correct forum would have been              Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard.
    (2) How likely is the OP to find get a useful answer? In this respect, sig was right to refer him to Microsoft's Office Mac support site, because that's where the OP is likely to find many dedicated users of this particular software, and thus has a much better chance of finding the answer he's looking for. But that's not the same thing as telling him that he shouldn't post such questions in the Apple Support Communities.

  • For one of our users the option to send a document as attachment has dissapeared in office programs such as word, excel etc

    Hi,
For one of our users the option to send an email as attachment has disappeared in office programs such as word, excel etc
As you can see from the above these are the normal options you expect to see but for the user affected they get the option to send as a Text document, a pdf or an XPS the option to send as a attachment has gone.
I have logged into her PC with my account and it was fine, i have had a look and no one else has reported this throughout the company and looking for answers online has proven fruitless.
Any Ideas on why this option would have changed to only allow the user to send it as text.

    Hi,
The "Send as Attachment" option only works when Outlook and word are installed from the same suite. That is required.

  • IWorks app compatible w/MS word, excel, etc?

How compatible is iworks App w/MS Word, Excel, etc?

    pjamesfamily wrote:

    pj,
How compatible? Enough so that iWork can open Office documents and can save in Office format, but some features may be lost going in either direction. Text may look ever so slightly different on the printed page. The worst compatibility, in my opinion, is a fancy Numbers document being exported to Excel. It will lose most of its organization, unless it's designed with this export in mind. Many power features of Excel are missing in Numbers, and if your files are large, Numbers will crawl compared with Excel's speed.
Given how inexpensive the iWork apps are and how much fun they are to use, I would have them even if I also had Office.

  • Can't open/edit Office files

    Hello,
We can't edit Office (2007) files when we open them over Teaming.
E.g.: We have under Teaming a file directory with an Excel file. When we click on
'edit' the Excel application starts and a login dialog pops up. After the values are entered
the file are opened in office. But the file is write protected.
If we make the same procedure over https the file wouldn't be opened.
    Two questions:
    1. Why would the Office file over http opened write protected?
    2. Why is it not possible to open the file over https?
    Here our environment:
    SLES 11 64 bit
    Teaming 2.1
    LDAP Sync to eDIR
    Office 2007
    Windows 7
    IE 8
    Firefox 3.6.3
Yes, the time is in the whole network equal.
Yes, the ssl certificate is valid.
Teaming was installed how it is in the installing manual described (Firewall forwarding).

My reading on this problem suggests it is because MS decided Win 7 wont do
WebDAV folders properly, one assumes it is to try to lock you into
    Sharepoint or BPOS........ nice!
Google WebDAV and Windows 7 and you get a bunch of grumbling users......
As a work around I have been using BitKinex to sync Teaming doc folders to
local drives with some success, and then edit the docs off the local drive
granted it wont work in a large system, but is good for a travelling user
    like me :-)
    best of luck

  • Authentication prompt issue when opening an office file in a document library with read permission for domain users

An user as part of the domain users tries to open an office file from a document library but he got an authentication prompt asking him to authenticate. Domain users has only access to this library and not to the whole site. This uses to work in SharePoint
2007 without any problem but not in SharePoint 2013, we didn't have a workflow on SP2007.
Domain users has read access to only this document library in the site, but he shouldn't get an authentication prompt since he is part of the domain users and he is not trying to modify the document, he can open the document but gets two prompts, he can't
also see the list using explorer view since nothings appears using the explorer view.
Now, when opening the file, we can see..Updating Workflow Status, but we don't have any workflow working on this site or library, event any feature related to workflow.
If we go to the event viewer in the server, we find this information,
I also checked this thread but I couldn't find this scenario.
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/91bc770b-bb70-4885-a4ad-a243edb88753/event-id-8026-workflow-soap-getworkflowdataforitem-failed-doc-library-no-workflow?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
I also created another list with the same permissions and using other office files but got the same behavior.
Now, we have migrated this site from SP2007 to SP2013.
    Any ideas?

OK, I am going to throw out a lot of ideas here so hopefully they get you closer to a diagnosis. Hang on :)
Does it happen to work for some users but not others? If so, try logging in on the "good" computer with the "bad" username. This will tell you if the problem is related to the end-user's system. Also, once the user downloads a document
successfully can they open and work on it in Word? Also, does the document library have any custom content types associated with it or does it just use 'Document'?
I notice that there are other folks on the web that have run into this same problem and the similarity seems to be that they are either on SharePoint 2007 or have upgraded from 2007. Did this doc library start out as a 2007 library?
What you might want to do is this: Make a site collection from scratch in 2013 (or find one that you know was created in 2013). Choose team site (or whatever you want) for the root web and set up the security the same way you have it on the malfunctioning
library. Now, use windows explorer to copy and paste some of the documents to the new location. Be sure you recreate any needed content types. Now test it from the troubled user's computer.
I'm thinking there may be something that is different about the library since it was migrated through various versions and updates since 2007. I've sometimes found that there can be problems (especially with user profiles but that's a different story) with
things that go through this evolution.

  • Why can't I use word, excel etc after upgrading OS X lion ?

Why can´t I use word, excel etc after upgrading too OS X Lion ?

Office 2004 is a PowerPC app that requires Rosetta to run. Roseeta and thus all PPC aps are not supported on Lion. Further Office 2008's Installer is a PPC app. Office 2008 will run if installed before installing Lion, but you cannot install it from Original Office 2008 Media after installing Lion.

  • How do I get access to my microsoft word, excel etc? Is lion not compatible with word, if so it you be mentioned prior to someone purchasing.

Have installed Lion, but Lion says it will not support microsoft office programs words.  Is this a major glitch with Lion?  I cannot believe Apple would create a operation system not conducive to running word, excell etc.!!!  Anyone know what the fix is?

There is no glitch. Lion does support Office and Word. You can use Office 2008 or 2011.

Use a product such as OpenOffice, LibreOffice, Google Docs, iWork, or Microsoft Office 2008 or newer. In the case of Word documents, you can also use TextEdit.

  • Getting extra line after each record when opening a .txt file in excel

    Hi All,
I have developed a program which downloads a file at application server.
each record of file is 500 characters long & have CRLF at end.
the file looks fine when opened in .txt format.
however when i download it from application server to presentation server (using function "download to my computer"), & at presentation when i try to open it in excel format, it shows a blank line after every record.
i don't want this blank line to appear if i download it & open it in excel.
the file record is declared as char500 type.
Please suggest how to deal with this.
    thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Puja.

    Hi Puja,
Check the file in the application server whether it has any gaps between the lines.
Or else as you said if the file looks ok in .txt format, download the file in .txt and open the same file in excel (i.e. open with excel)
    Hope this sloves your problem.
    Regards,
    SB.
