Oracle 11g R2 hangs after parameter processes incresed

Hi,
I am running an Oracle 11g R2 on a Solaris box. I was getting some Critical alert messages about the "Process Limit %" metric. So I decided to increase the value of the processes database parameter from 200 to 400. After that the system is very slow and hanging with a lot of "Log file sync" and "log file parallel write" events.
I have rolled it back to 200 and now the system is working fine again, but I am concern about getting again the alert about the "process limit %".
Is there any other parameter that I need to tune together with the increase of the proccesses on?
Regards,

It looks like the issue is not related with the processes change.
If I reboot then db and then restart the process it runs fine. Something happens during on the db during the day that make the nightly schedule task takes forever. When I checked it this morming there were a lot of commit activity. If I cancel the process and then try to restart it again without rebooting the db the problem persist. But if I bounce the database and then run it, it will complete fine.
Below is AWR periord comparisson report. The first period is when I cancelled the process and then tried to run it again. The second one is after the database reboot.
I appreciate any advice.

  • Deinstall Oracle 11g client hangs on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit

    Hi,
I am trying to dinstall Oracle 11g client on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit but the process hangs when it reaches the following:
Removing Windows and .NET products configuration START
It just hangs there for ever!
Checking the log file C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs\winprod_cleanup.out and I can see the last thing in there is ""Deconfiguring ODP.NET Component...""
Any idea what could be the reason?
    Thanks,
    Firas

I was able to resolve it...Apparently I was logged on as administrator when I invoked deinstall which caused it to hang when it came to the part where it was getting ready to deinstall the .NET components...I logged off and loged in as myself and invoked the deinstall and it completed successfully...

  • Oracle 11g : Sequence Issues after impdp

    Hi All,
We are migrating from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g. As part of this, we take a expdp from 10g and successfully did an import using impdp on to Oracle 11g database.
But the problem is, there were few Primary key violations which occurred and all of them relate to sequences.
The Maximum data in the tables and the last number in the sequences differed which caused the issue.
Upon investigation and browsing the Web, http://www.nerdliness.com/article/2009/03/18/my-oracle-sequencedatapump-shenanigans ; I understood it could be because of the export taken while the application is online and writing to the database.
I reset all the failing sequences manually and it is fine now.
    My questions now are
*1) Can we ascertain that the export taken when the source database is offline would eliminate the sequences issue.*
    2) As this is being done in Production, I would like to make few checks to ensure that the sequences are properly imported. ---
Again reading few websites and oracle Forums, i found the below sql's..
    select table_name, column_name, utl_raw.cast_to_number(high_value) as highval
    from dba_Tab_columns
    where owner = 'PRODUCTION_OWNER'
    AND DATA_TYPE= 'NUMBER'
    AND (OWNER, TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME) IN
    (SELECT CC.OWNER, CC.TABLE_NAME, CC.COLUMN_NAME
    FROM DBA_CONS_COLUMNS CC
    JOIN DBA_CONSTRAINTS C
    ON CC.OWNER=C.OWNER
    AND CC.CONSTRAINT_NAME=C.CONSTRAINT_NAME
    WHERE C.CONSTRAINT_TYPE ='P'
    ORDER BY 3;
    SELECT SEQUENCE_NAME, MIN_VALUE, MAX_VALUE, LAST_NUMBER
    FROM DBA_SEQUENCES
    WHERE SEQUENCE_OWNER = 'PRODUCTION_OWNER'
    ORDER BY LAST_NUMBER
If I relate the last_number with the highval and if they are same, does that mean the sequences are imported properly.
Note: We have sequence caching done and we are on RAC.

it could be because of the export taken while the application is online and writing to the database.I don't know what's your database's size , and what's acceptable downtime for you, but I could never propose such a migration tecnique to any of my customers, due to excessive downtime when databases are quite large.
It's quite obvious that you get such errors when the export is done while people are working, unless you use FLASHBACK_SCN or FLASHBACK_TIME parameter while exporting. But in this case, assuming you don't get errors (e.g. ORA-01555), you'll probably lose a lot ot transactions.
Assuming your 10g database is running in archivelog mode (which should be the default in production DBs) did you think of using RMAN to do the migration ?

  • Oracle 11g Install hangs when "creating clon database"

hi, i'm new with all this stuff, i'm trying to install oracle 11g on a windows 2003 standard edition and the installation hangs in this point:
    http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/1458/installni7.jpg
it's almost an hour and it's stuck in 45% when trying to create clon database in "Creating and starting oracle instance".
I checked the log file but it says nothing weird, just that everything went well and a "restore" was made.
    what can i do?
    thanks!!!

If someone still needs an answer to this:
I had a similar problem with 10g. If you use certain special characters in the password for the database during its creation, some script will hang forever at 45% of the database creation. Just use a plain password without special characters. At the end of the database creation you can change all passwords. At that stage you can use special characters without any problem.
I don't know if this is the same in 11g, but it sounds very similar.

  • Oracle AS control hangs after user login - AIX 5.3

    Hi,
We are engaged with a customer who deploys OracleAS 10.1.2.0.2 on AIX 5.3. After installation, AS control hangs after user logins. This issue is addressed in release note and metalink doc365725.1. We followed the guide in metalink to do the modification and we can access AS control successfully after that. However, due to some other reasons, we restart the AIX, and after that AS control hangs again. This is quite strange. Does anyone meet with this symptom before? How can we resolve this issue?
    Thanks in advance.
    Sindhiya V.

Thanks everyone for the response and help.
I completed the task yesterday with the permission method. However, I think I found the solution after completion. The trick lies at the oraInst.loc file. It lies at /etc directory for my case (AIX 5.3).
If you do a opatch lsinventory, it shows you the Central Inventory location and the location of orainst.loc. For my case, it is pointing to /oracle/DE1/920_64/inventory. Therefore, even though I am logging in as oraqa1 with all env and oracle settings correct, it still points to DE1 inventory.
I think modifying the Central inventory location in oraInst.loc will solve this problem.

  • Oracle 11g stop working after installing Patch 1

I'm new to Oracle. I installed Oracle 11g Database this weekend. The installation went well with no problems. However, after installing the base system I then installed Patch1. I had no problems installing the patch. I restarted my system and then started the EM. I received the following message from the EM:
ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
What does this mean and how do I fix it?
I then did an uninstall of Oracle 11g and then re-installed it. The problem went away. So I'm confidenced that the installation of Patch 1 caused the problem.
    Thanks for your help.
    Lou

I'm very sorry of the over sight on my part. My environment is as follows: Dell PowerEdge 1900 with 16gb of memory, 2 physical Quad processors and 4tb of disk space. I have the installed Oracle 11g on Windows 2008 Datacenter.
I am trying to upgrade as follows: Oracle Database 11g Release 11.1.0.6 to Oracle Database 11g Release 11.1.0.7. I will implement the Post Installation instruction to see what happens. It was an oversight on my part.
    Thanks

  • Migrating from Red Brick database to Oracle 11g -Need help with the process

    Hi,
I am on this new project were we are migrating from IBM Red Brick Data Warehouse to Oracle 11g. We have a very tight time line. I was hoping if any of you have done this migration before and are willing to share their experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would like to get a brief idea about how to go about the process.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
that is a matter of supply and demand, and as the demand to migrate Red Brick to Oracle RDBMS is very low, Oracle never included Red Brick into the migration tools.
If you search in the forums for Red Brick, you will not find much more than this one from the year 2006:
Re: Migration from rebrick 6.0.3 to Oracle 9i
    Options:
In general we have the following options:
    1. Oracle Migration Workbench
    2. SQL Developer Migration Workbench
    3. Generic Connectivity
    4. SQL*Loader
Regarding your dedicated foreign database, option 1 and 2 fail as those tools
do not work against Red Brick DB.
Generic Connectivity would be an option if you have an ODBC driver to this database.
In this dedicated case, you can then set up generic connectivity (= a database
link to the foreign database using odbc).
The Oracle database we support generic connectivity can reside on Windows,
    Solaris, HP-UX, AIX and Linux.
If the Oracle database is on any other platform, you might migrate to a
database on this platform, then export the migrated DB and then load it into
    the real target db.
Generic Connectivity will allow you to perform a SQL*Plus copy of tables; this
means you can create tables like they are defined in your source and transfer
the data to the Oracle db; but no procedures, triggers or anything coded can be
    transferred.
Last option (4) is that you generate "flat files". This means ASCII-SPOOL
Files and then import them using SQL*Loader. As far as I know there is no
existing SQL*Loader sample file for Red Brick databases exports and you need to
    write them on your own.
I recommend to read also the following note in My Oracle Support:
Note 233876.1: Options for Connecting to Foreign Data Stores and Non-Oracle Databases
    Best regards

  • Oracle 11g EM error after installation

    Hi dears
I installed ORacle 11g on Windows. installation comipleted successfully, but I got an error at the end of the installation that:
"Enterprise Manager configuration failed due to the following error -
    Error starting Databae Control
Refer to the log file at c:\..... for more details
You can retry configuring this database with Enterprise Manager later by manually running c:\..... "
What might be reason of this error? I and my friend installed 11gR1 on windows many times, and each time we got this error
    any help will be appreciated
    thank you

As requested already, post the log file. One thing, you need to ensure that you don't have the DHCP based system but would have a static IP for the machine otherwise you must install a loopback adaptor for the machine before you would configure the EM again. This may not be the error for your EM's failed installation but this is one of the prominent reasons for sure for the failure.

  • Oracle Linux 4 hangs after first reboot....@ GRUB Loading stage2

    Hi Linux experts,
after I installed Oracle Linux 4(on Vmware), I go through the 4 ISO images(that I had burnt to CDs)...After the 4th CD is done, I have to do the first Linux reboot...Linux hangs on
    "GRUB Loading stage2...."
Any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I'm using Chan's article to install Linux on top of Vmware. His article is on http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/chan-bul-vmware.html#2.
Maybe I missed step 11 of his instructions.....but it says leave the default /dev/sda1...thats what I did.

  • Windows 7 install of Oracle 11g R2 client hangs

The prior discussion was closed, but I have something to add, so I am opening a new thread.  The prior thread is Oracle 11g install hangs on windows 7
I found that the very final post, by user12924267 was correct and solved the problem for me.
The symptoms were the same or similar as what other users had reported.
On Windows 7 workstation, I ran the 11g r2 installer.  The installer would get to the point where it was checking system requirements, and then it would just hang there forever.
I tried disabling User Account Control (requiring a reboot), and that did not help.
I tried disabling the firewall, and that did not help.
However, the following command did work.  From the command prompt at the installation folder
         setup.exe -jreLoc C:\install\reinstall\sqldeveloper\jdk\jre
Then it went all the way through and installed successfully.
I don't think it really matters which Java folder you use.  I happened to have a Java folder that I knew worked (because I had previously successfully run SQL-Developer from it), and so I just re-used that same Java folder.  The default Java that comes with the 11g installer, is the one with the problem.

Pl confirm that you are following all of the steps in the Install Guide - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e16774/toc.htm
Try re-installing with option "-logLevel" set to "finest" to see if additional information is captured in the install logs - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/em.112/e12255/c_oui_appendix.htm#BABDADJE

  • ChangePerm.sh file does not exist in Oracle 11g installation

    Hi All,
I have done successful Oracle 11g installation. After installation I noticed that Oracle 11g/installation does not have changePerm.sh file. Did anyone of you seen that?
Without executing changeperm.sh file, the binary files have 751 permission level. ChangePerm.sh script make change in file permission to 755.
Oracle support is not answering me why there was no changePerm.sh file under Oracle_home/install directory.
    Thoughts/suggestions..
    Thank you
    Suresh

I'm not finding this to be the case reliably. I have both a 10G and an 11G install on one particular machine and the 11G installer initially creates the directories with a 755 permission, then right before the prompt to run root.sh, and at the same time it locks down any 10G home it finds (someone please explain that!) it locks down the 11G home too.
In true Murphy tradition, this hasn't happened on any of my testing machines, just my production.
Whatever silly contrived mechanism Oracle wrote to re-lock 10G when installing 11G is also locking down my 11G.

  • DB Upgrade from Oracle 8i to Oracle 11g express edition

    Hello,
As per the requirement i have to upgrade some of our application from oracle 8i to oracle 11g express edition on window base platform.
I am using import/export utility to migrate data from oracle 8i database to newly installed oracle 11g XE database. after importing i have tested my application in testing environment. It is working fine. Now I have to do this in production env. before proceeding with it.
please someone let me know what all things i have to keep in mind before execute in prod env. Like all risk, databse backup recovery, or any guidelines need to follow while upgrading lower version of oracle to 11g XE version.
    waiting for your valuable inputs.

You might want to consider what other programs interacts with the database; can they still connect to a much newer db server version? Any integrations that need a dry run before going in production? Any other "ad hoc" applications, like excel, running against the db? (you could use listener.log to find out what connects to the db, but a year worth of history might be needed)
Do you have any scripts or other "loosly coupled" stuff that needs review?
Read the New features guides released between versions - there are five or six of them.
Check out the Database Upgrade forum (you could look at this as an upgrade in general from 8.1.x to 11.2), {forum:id=583}. Search the forum for previous related topics and ideas.

Oracle RDBMS does NOT speak any "protocol" except SQL natively.

  • What is .trm file in oracle 11g?

What is .trm file in oracle 11g?

Typically, database background process trace file names contain the Oracle SID, the background process name, and the operating system process number, while server process trace file names contain the Oracle SID, the string "ora", and the operating system process number. The file extension is .trc. An example of a server process trace file name is orcl_ora_344.trc. Trace files are sometimes accompanied by corresponding trace map (.trm) files, which contain structural information about trace files and are used for searching and navigation.
