Oracle 8i Lite: TNS error (ORA-12203)
Hi,
I Have Installed oracle 8i Lite for win 98/and palm operating system on a WIN 98 , pentium III machine. THE INSTALLATION IS SMOOTH. I am able to see the database and users through the Oracle Navigator. But when i try to connect through sql*plus i get
TNS-12203 TNS:unable to connect to destination error
1)How to find whether oracle services are runnong or not?
2)how to start listener on this 8i lite
3)I have also tried creating service name with bequath protocol
nothing works
Pls Help. Any lead is appreciated
Hi
Your oracle database and forms are installed on different oracle home so when you configurate your sql net that time you are configurating only your oracle database. So for form you must be having different oracle home. you cand change thid from start/oracle inatallation products/home selecter. so change our home and run the form. and if still having problem than check for tnsnames.ora file you must be having two files and both must be having right configuration.
thanks

Intermittent of error "ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination"
Hi,
One of my application (run 24 hours each day) face intermittent of error "ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination", any one face the same issue ? any solution for this ? The error may occur weekly, some time monthly, occur randomly.
My Oracle is 8i. Application and 8i run on different SUN machines.
Checked with my network engr and db admin, network traffic was not congested and db was not overloaded at the time of this error. CPU and memory also not overloaded.
regards,
johnvun98This error generally occurs when you listener at server is not working properly or at client you sqlnet.ora,tnsnames.ora (if using local names) file is not configured properly check both the files

ERROR ORA-12203: TNS: unable to connect to destination
Hello All,
I have installed Oracle 8i and forms 6i on my computer running on Windows NT 4.0 with service pack 4.0. The order of my installation was Oracle 8i and then Forms 6i. I have also used Net8 Easy Config to configure the tnsnames.ora file. I tested the connection on the Net8 Easy Config wizzard and I got the connection successful message. However I still get the ERROR ORA-12203: TNS: unable to connect to destination message when I tried to connect from forms 6i.
I have below my tnsnames.ora file:
# C:\FORMS6I\NET80\ADMIN\TNSNAMES.ORA Configuration File:C:\forms6i\net80\admin\tnsnames.ora
# Generated by Oracle Net8 Assistant
LISTENER1 =

(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = SUN))
Rep60_AUSTIN-Forms6i,Rep60_AUSTIN-Forms6i.world=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=AUSTIN)(PORT=1949))
I have created database objects, but forms will not connect. What else should do?
Thanks for your anticipated response.Hi

Hi,
I got this error ora-12203 (TNS:unable to connect to destination) when I was importing a table into my own schema. I don't know whether the error is related with import. My question is: when performing import, can other user login into the database?
Thanks,
RichardHi Richard,
The database will you to logon irrespective of what other work you are doing with whatever tool you are using. The Exceptions are :-
If the refered schema comes under certain restriction of the assigned profile.
If the database is running in RESTRICTED mode and you are not having accessibilty during this peiod.
As for your error in the import statement, check the connection you are using in the import statement.
I'm personally using import at least 10 times a week and usually come across these errors. These errors are all human errors and not bugs in the program.
Bye,
Piyush. -
TNS Error: ORA-12541: TNS: no listener.
I have installed Oracle 9i on machine in Windows XP. When I try to open the database SID in the Enterprise Manager, it gives me TNS Error: ORA-12541: TNS: no listener.
I have checked the Oracle Net Configuration:
Protocol: TCP/IP
Host: PNR18
Port: 1521
In the xp administrative tools, I found that the listener is on start.
When I try to test trough ' Net Configration Assistant' getting same error, similarly with Net Manager.
I don't know if I am using the correct protocol in my case of standalone installation.
Any advice/correction? it would be appreciated. I am giving all the information of TNSNAMES.ORA, LISTENER.ORA, SQLNET.ORA, which is on my machine.
Thanks in advance.

Case-1::
I tried according to your suggestion, still SAME error !! I have also configured new DB
with Enterprise MAnager Configuration Assistent - during DB creation same error occured.
1) I have seen in XP service where all listener is running as well as OracleServiceORCL
is also running.
2) OracleOraHome90TNSListener also running with other listeners!
Case-2::
Dear I also delete listener and create new one and also configured Database Description
and tried to do so but still same problem while I am TESTing it with - Net Manager /
Net Configuration Assistant. I have also tried
C:\TNSPING ORCL - it is giving 'ok' result
but when I am using C:\LSNRCTL START listener - it gives me following errors.
Service OracleOraHome90TNSListener already running.
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00530: Protocol adapter error
32-bit Windows Error: 1056: Unknown error
Thats the whole story....hope this time you will find easy to give solution.

Does this happen when you are on another machine? Maybe there is a firewall present?
When you are on the machine itself, can you connect?

// *Cause: Invalid address specified or destination is not listening.
// This error can also occur because of underlying network or network
// transport problems.
// *Action: Verify that the net service name you entered was correct.
// Verify that the ADDRESS portion of the connect descriptor which

$In Developer Home check that TNS alias in tnsnames.ora has no errors. Are you able to connect from Sql*Plus from Developer Home, using same alias ?
Also check that the listener is running on DB machine.

TNS Error : ORA-12154 unsing oo4o with VB

But, compile this application, and execute EXE module,
error occur 'Cannot resolve TNS Name (ORA-12154)'.Just make sure that the executable is not started from a directory path containing brackets (e.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\MyApp\myapp.exe") but copy that executable to a directory path without brackets. The brackets in one of the directies in the path may lead to the Oracle exception "ORA-12154: TNS :could not resolve service name".

Hi all,
One of our client is trying to connect to our database from his local pc. We are able to connect to the database fine from here.
But when he connects from his pc via vpn it gives him this error:
Ora-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
I checked the path and the Oracle client is in the path on his pc. Tnsping works. Not sure what else I should check. I do not have access to his pc, I just have to troubleshoot on the phont.
Below is his sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora.

#NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)
# tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora

Edited by: user553564 on Oct 3, 2008 7:55 AMWhen you do the tnsping, does it say using tnsnames or hostname? I've noticed it can be a bit confusing when you have a host running oracle that is not in your tnsnames.ora, it will successfully tnsping, because the host has a listener running, but you can't attach because the connection string is different. For example, I can tnsping a host named POLARIS, which is not in my tnsnames.ora, but it is in DNS and is running XE. D'Oh!
You might consider trying a service_name that matches your lsnrctl status output, rather than SID in the tnsnames.ora. It's also possible the user has multiple tnsnames.ora (especially if several things have been installed), and is picking up the wrong one. Try changing things the connect name to something just plain weird and see if it makes a difference. See if there is TWO_TASK in your environment, too.
Other reasons I'm going bald: case sensitivity of the SID; having two nearly identical entries in the tnsnames.ora and not scrolling down while editing; sqlnet.ora strangenesses; and I've "seen" (in earlier versions, anyways), invisible characters causing problems. -
Oracle 9i Lite SYNC Error in PALM
Hi,
I have Installed Oracle 8.1.6 Server in a Machine & Oracle 9i Lite 5.0 in a Machine, when i try ro connect & SYNC with my PALM Device OS 3.5 i get a [CNS-2000] Server send Error - 9025:0
Message, check log in the PALM device using mSYNC.
I have installed the Patchset 5.0.0.4 and have done all the settings related to the configuration.
Kindly help as it is very urgent to establish the connection SYC between the PALM & the Oracle.
Thaks & Regards,
ViswanathanIf this is happening on the upload of the data from the client, it is normally due to a mismatch between the DDL of the publication item and the corresponding in queue table (CFM$WTGPI_nnnnn).
Have you made changes on the server to the table/view definitions?
If so then have you re-published? If there is data in the in queue or error queue it will sometimes not refresh the mobileadmin tables with the changed columns/data types, although if you use API's i believe you may be ok. If there is no mismatch on the server, what about the format of the table on the client? it may be trying to upload some changes -

Has anyone run into this problem?
Is it related to an Oracle bug?
Are there fixes/workarounds?
Thanks in advance,
AlanHi,
There have been fixes to this area. I don't know if this exact error has been fixed, but getting the latest patchset would be a good place to start.
Thanks

Hi,
I am Using Oracle 10g"Lite" Database, I am doing manual SYNC Process.
Today I started the manual Sync Process i Got this Error Message in the Screen "POL-3201 Invalid Slot Number"
I referred a document Shows this information
POL-3201 Invalid slot number
Cause: Internal error caused by referencing an object that has been deleted. Each
object in the database, such as a row has a unique object identifier (OID) that
identifies the location of the object in secondary storage. Each database file is
divided into fixed size chunks called disk pages. An OID can become invalid
when the:
■ disk page being referred by the OID does not exist in the database file.
■ physical read or write of the disk page fails due to an operating system related
error.
■ address of the object (as indicated by the internal encoding in the OID) in the
disk page is outside the page.
■ object is not found in the page.
But i did not delete any thing in the Lite database.
Yesterday the Manual SYNC was Successful ...After i did not touch the Lite Database.Today I started the SYNC and i Got the Error.
Did any one face this error?
Please advice on this Error
Thank U for the Useful Information
SHANSee if following OTN forum thread helps...
