PNGs are jagged in Flash MX

Hello, I am creating a layout for a website using Flash MX (I
know, I need to upgrade). I basically wanted to use a loader to
load external SWF to make the pages transition smoothly. I have
created a hollow frame and I am using buttons for navigation which
are PNGs.
I am having 2 issues:
1 - The PNG buttons (on my second page, not doing this on the
home page) are showing up jagged. They are images with text created
in PS. I have read some fixes but none seem to work. I need the
images to be transparent so I can't use a jpg.
2 - When I try to load a swf (attaching AS to the button) it
works however it always shows over all my other layers. I have of
course sent this layer to the back but I am still having this
issue.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Few things to know:
Do not animated raster images, do not scale up or down and do
not rotate on stage.
Import the image you want 1:1 in position it will be
displayed. Also change the quality
setting in library. Open library CTRL L - right click the
image and go to Properties.
Play around with quality to find most satisfactory output,
take note tho, the better
the quality the larger the SWF files is going to be.

Levels are not related to layers. Your movie is level 0 and
whatever you load will always
come on top of the current level regardless what layer is
loading the movie.
To control the depth you will need to load the swf into movie
clip holder, not layer.
You can then place that movie clip anywhere you want, to
control the over and under content.

  • Importing any PNG freezes and crashes Flash CS4

    After being able to import multiple large PNG files into my Flash project, Flash CS4 now freezes and crashes whenever I attempt to import any PNG image, regardless of size or transperancy. This happens on any flash project, even brand new ones.
    Importing a PNG file into the library freezes flash and I have to open the task manager to close it. Interestingly, when I try to end the task, flash still asks if I want to save changes, as attempting to import the PNG results in a new, blank symbol added to the library. I can re-open the file with the blank symbol but because it is blank this doesn't help me.
    Dragging and dropping a PNG file straight onto the project crashes Flash straightaway and prompts me to send an error message to Adobe.

    Thanks Anton for your reply!
    I'm 100% sure that the PNG file is not the problem.
    I can donwload any PNG file on google and they all freeze Flash.
    I noticed that the program won't react to any mouse command. I hear the
    generic windows "ding!" sound when I click on something, but my keyboard
    shortcuts still works. I can close or save the file, change tools, etc.
    It happens since the middle of February, I'm not sure when.
    Before that, I've never had any problems with importing PNG.
    Also, I haven't installed any new program recently.

  • Are WebServices in Flash Builder 4 broken?

    I have a JBoss server running that exposes a wsdl interface. One of the WebMethods are defined as follows:
    public List<Stuff> getStuff( long stuffParameter ) { ... }
    When I import the WSDL I get what I expect, a method getStuff and a parameter GetStuff that has an arg0 of type Number
    I then have the following code in my project
    private var proxy:StuffWS = new StuffWS(); // this is my webservice that serves Stuff
    I do
    var stuff:Stuff = new Stuff();
    stuff.arg0 = 55;
    var tok:AsyncToken = proxy.getStuff( stuff );
    tok.addResponder( new mx.rpc.Responder(stuffResponseHandler,genericFaultHandler) );
    I would expec this to call my web service with the parameter of 55, it does in Flex 3 (as far as I can remember). Instead my webservice is called with a parameter of 0.
    Looking at the soap package that goes out, that is not strange, it reads (removed headers)
    <SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
         <SOAP-ENV:Body>
              <tns:getStuff xmlns:tns="http://package.package/appname/stuffws"/>
         </SOAP-ENV:Body>
    </SOAP-ENV:Envelope>
    In other words, my 55 is nowhere to be seen.

    Attached is the Microsoft Dynamics CRM WSDL file, I have modified it slightly (commented out a few complex types) to make it pass the Apache wsdl2java tool. In Flex Builder 3 this generates what I would expect, a number of different types of value objects etc (for example an Account object). None of those are generated in Flash Builder 4. I would have expected to see Account.as, Contact.as and a whole host of other objects.
    Also, most of the objects that are created are "half" created, and are thus useless. Example - to retrieve a set of business entities using this WebService, you would create a QueryBase, set it's EntityName to something useful and then populate a ColumnSet object with an array of columns you would like to have returned. The ColumnSet doesn't include any way to add this array however, since it is basically an "empty" object with no real parameters to set or get.
    Either Flash 4 generates this in a really "smart" way, making me unable to understand it at all, or Flash 4 wsdl2actionscript is badly broken. Given the fact that no objects that are defined in the WSDL were created, I tend to favor the latter possibility.
    I have included the WSDL as it is when edited by me, and as it was originally. There is no difference in the result.
    I hope we are a little ways away from release, because this is going to require some work...    :-)

  • Extracting resourse like .ai & png files from a flash project

    Hi! I have been assined the task of extracting the images from old flash projects and am having a devil of a time doing so.
    There are lots of programs that you can extract info out of the swf files, but these don't give you the original .ai Ilustrator files that may have been used to create the presentation with, or png files with transparent backgrounds.
    Is there a plug-in in Flash that allows you to capture these items in the document?  when I drag the item from the library (lets say a .ai file) to the stage and right click and copy it, it only gives me part of the item when I paste it back into illustrator... and when I drag the PNG resource to photoshop I get it with a background I do not want.
    any help on this would be great!!!!
    I have both cs3 and cs4 so a solution in either one would be great!

    Well that is kinda what I've been doing, only its not quite that simple as doing it that way makes an image of what is on the entire stage.  What I have to do is create a new project copy over all my library items to the new project, and pull over each one individually and do it that way.... if you have a lot of items in your library (which I do a lot of times since these contain a lot of animation sequenced into individual frames) this process can be quite tedious.  Yes you can save out to .ai illustrator files this way as well.
    I was hoping for something a little more... automatic or at least where I don't have to drop each item individually on a stage, reposition, ect...
    But yes, the previous post is one way of doing it with some fooling around with.

  • Images will not appear on Stage area of Adobe Flash Professional

    I have Adobe Flash Professional CS5.
    Yesterday I successfully created an animation.
    Later the same day I tried to create another and the images will not appear on the stage.
    I loaded in PNG files - which worked the first time - now they will not show up.
    I can see their binding boxes on the stage, and move those but the images just do not show up.
    When I hit ctrl + enter to preview, I can see the images in the preview movie - just not on the stage working area!
    I tried restarting, shutting down, updating my PC, uninstalling programs, loading different file types (jpg), and resaving and reloading the PNG files. I even tried different types of Flash defaults. NOTHING WORKS.
    I hope someone can tell me what is wrong this makes no sense!

    Before you drag the image from the library to your stage, make sure you insert a blank keyframe (F6) on the layer you are working with, then drag to stage. This worked for me.

  • Illustrator vector shapes become jagged in flash

    does anyone know why when importing vector shapes from
    illustrator into flash the shapes become very jagged when the swf
    file is published?
    thanks

    Hi R-Designer,
    The jagged edges are caused by the import process in Flash.
    When it
    encounters complex fills or lines it can't directly handle,
    it converts them
    to bitmaps. Illustrator will also sometimes do this when
    exporting for
    Flash. Unfortunately, the only way to deal with this is to
    reduce the
    complexity of your image (especially fills or fancy lines) or
    exporting the
    whole thing as a high-res bitmap.

  • My .PNGs are tweaking out when i lower their quality!  Somebody, help meeee!

    Hello.
    So I've got animated pngs.  They're in symbols that aniamate.
    When I go to Publish Settings and lower the JPG quality.  (it's curretnly at 100% which is TRULY regret.  I think I may be stuck here.. I should have left it at flashs default 80%)
    The animated pngs glitch out.  Some are invisible for ever, and some cycle back and forth.  Visible, not visible, etc.etc.!
    Help meeeee!
    Using CS4.
    I think I may have to manually do each one.  Manually adjust the static pngs.  But what about the animated ones?
    T_T

    Loooool.
    Do you know how absuuurd that sounds?
    haha, but I will try it.
    Okay, so what order should i do it?
    Set the publish setting to 80% and THEEEN go in ......the....100's of movie clips...one by one.?
    Do i have to do it all in one sitting?what if i export and i forgot like 40 of them, do i have to START ALL OVER?
    Thanks dude, nice tip, hahah

  • Png Illustrator Live Trace Flash

    I'm rather new to Illustrator CS2 but I had a plan to take
    png images (with transparent backgrounds) into it from Photoshop
    and then using Live Trace convert them to vectors. I would then
    export them into Flash as swf files. (AI and AEP are huge. Or maybe
    I am missing something) It all worked great until I noticed that
    the swf files had a white background(like when you save a
    transparent psd as a jpeg and not a png.)
    My question is, is there a way to make and preserve
    transparent backgrounds from placed png images in Illustrator and
    Live Trace so that when I move them into Flash I have a "vector
    png" to work with? Thanks

    Found solution -After you have done the Live Trace In
    Illustrator CS2 , click on the background white object and go to
    the Select menu > Same > Fill Color. With all your white
    object selected, press the Delete key on your keyboard. Export as
    an .swf. Import into Flash and you have a vector copy (with
    transparent background) of your bitmap .png to play with. A "vector
    png"!
    Embarrassed by how little I know about Illustrator... But
    this might help someone

  • Using PNG image files in Flash

    Hi, I'm new to this forum, so I'm not sure whether my
    question is appropriate to be raised in here or not Any guidance
    would be appreciated.
    My Flash 8 document contains images files that are in PNG
    format (created on Adobe Photoshop CS2) and these image files DO
    NOT have background. As I launch the Flash Movie, I can vaguely see
    a background, which is same dimension of the entire image file,
    underneath the image and it kind of look akward. I have tried to
    add an extra background with the colour same as my Flash document
    background colour underneath the image but it woudn't solve the
    problem. On the contrary, this additional background is even more
    apparent.
    Any advice what I can do ?

    Yeah, this forum is entirely appropriate for your question.
    The problem is an old one with Flash. The reason you see the
    'ghosted'
    background in the alpha channel of your PNG is that you have
    your colour
    depth set to 16 bits. If you crank it up to 32 bits, the
    anomaly will
    disappear. Unfortunately there's not a great deal you can do
    about it,
    except to break apart the image and actually delete the parts
    you don;t want
    to be visible.

  • When trying to save a bookmark to a specific pre-established folder the window disappears and will not allow me to make a selection. If I hover in the area it will flash on the screen and disappear again, it's annoying please help!

    When I attempt to save a new bookmark and want to save it in a folder the window that typically appears just below the address bar will not stay on the screen. It flashes on the screen and as soon as I move my cursor over it, it disappears. It will not allow me to make a selection of any kind. If I randomly hover over the general area the window will flash back in view but disappear again just as quickly. If I then show all my bookmarks, the bookmark was saved and I have to move it to the folder I actually want it in. Just a few extra steps, but still very annoying. Please help!

  • Saving Shapes to PNG Causes Jagged Edges

    Hello,
    I use a Mac and I have Illustrator CS6 and I've noticed something strange. I create shapes using the pentool. When I save the shape to a PNG with a transparent background, it looks smooth, however when I import and resize the shape it pixelates and it has jagged edges.  I've attached a screenshot so you can see what I mean.
    I'm wondering if it's a setting or something that I don't have turned on (or off).  Or perhaps it's something else.  I'm curious why this is happening.  I’ve turned on the Anit-aliased Artwork and changed the ppi to 300…but to no avail.
    Any help would be appreciated…but I’m new to Illustrator and have no idea, so please use detailed and basic instructions that a noob can understand.
    Thanks in advance.

    You answered your own question. A png is a raster image therefore resizing the image will pixelate it.

    It is important that you define a site in Dreamweaver before commencing any work, that way DW can track all the links correctly.

  • Jpeg preview icons are jagged in the Finder

    I'm going through my images, archiving some, tossing others. I've come across a folder full of jpeg images where the icons are so jagged you can't see what the image is. Most of my other jpeg preview images are okay, and when I Get Info (from Finder) the preview shown for the sus images is also okay.
    I've asked in the Apple forums whether I could ask the Finder to go through all these images and update the icon, but no joy so far.
    When I open an image and Save As in Photoshop, the icon is okay – but being jpeg, I assume the image will be recompressed, and therefore the quality (already borderline from my 10-year-old 2 MP camera) will be degraded further. Also, I don't want to convert to Tiff as I want to save space by archiving the original jpeg just as it came out of the camera.
    So, how do I "reicon" these preview images in the Finder so that they look normal, but without recompressing? Can Photoshop update the preview of a jpeg image, but not the image data?

    HI Frank,
    You've certainly covered all the bases but if you haven't done so try this. Grab your Tiger restore disk and insert it in to the optical drive. When it mounts double click it. When the window opens follow this path: System/Library/Core Services/CoreTypes.bundle. Select the CoreTyples. bundle and then press Cntrl + C. Then go to a clear space on your Desktop and press Cntrl + V. That will copy that file to your Desktop. Now, double click your MacintoshHD icon or use a Finder window and follow that same path. Remove the original CoreTypes.bundle and replace with the one you just created on the Desktop. Run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions... Reboot... my fingers are crossed that this works.

  • WRT54G2 does not work and internet, port 2 and port 3 LEDs are in a flashing pattern

    I've tried the reset button and plenty of power cycling.  The LEDs are stuck in a cycle:
    internet LED is a continous flash
    port 2 LED is a continous flash
    port 3 LED flashes occasionally, but I can't see a pattern.
    It does not respond to pings.

    Try to Press and hold the reset button for 60 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 60 seconds and re-connect the power cable.... Now try to ping the Routers Default Gateway IP 192.168.1.1 and check if you are getting any replies or not.
    Note : Disable the Firewall and Antivirus from your Computer. Then try to ping the Router.
