Re: Store big SQL(15000 char+)  in the database.

I have 2 very big SQL (almost 15000 char each). I have to store them in 2 saperate columns in a database table.
After storing them when ever require, sql will be retrieved and executed to get the values.
As varchar2 supports only 4000 chars. What would be the best data type to store big SQLs in the same table?
Thanks

>
Ooops, I misread original post. Somehow I read 15,000 as 150,000. MichaelS is right, PL/SQL VARCHAR2 is 32K-1 but is some cases it will work with up to 64K-1 (although not supported abd subject to change in next releases). Anyway, for up to 32,767 byte clobs:
SQL> declare c clob := to_clob('select ''') || lpad('X',4000,'X') || ''' from dual';
  2  begin
  3  execute immediate c;
  4  end;
  5  /
execute immediate c;
ERROR at line 3:
ORA-06550: line 3, column 19:
PLS-00382: expression is of wrong type
ORA-06550: line 3, column 1:
PL/SQL: Statement ignored
SQL> declare c clob := to_clob('select ''') || lpad('X',4000,'X') || ''' from dual';
  2  begin
  3  execute immediate to_char(c);
  4  end;
  5  /
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

  • SQL error occurred in the database when acces

    Dear All,
    I am getting following error message while doing file to file scenario.
    source side messages are pickedup and entering into the Queues .receiver side i cant able to see any souce messages.
    SYSFAIL Message is showing in the Queues when i was double click that message its giving following message.
    SQL error occurred in the database when acces
    a table.
    Plz, help me in this regard.
    Thanks,
    Mahesh

    Hi Mahesh,
    Did you get a chance to check the IPC log directories
    Also usually for a sysfail message you can check the smw01
    You will see a bdoc with status F05. What does it say there?
    or
    Is it "Scheduled for outbound processing" or "recorded for outbound processing".
    I guess the message has not been processed, so the next step is to go to transaction SMQ2, and check for info as to why it is not processed.
    If you see a queue status of SYSFAIL, first try resetting it to "Ready" again. If it still fails then, delete that particular LUW. And if you still have some more messages in the queue just click the unlock queue button.
    Reward points if this helps
    Regards

  • STORE A COMPLETE FILE SYSTEM IN THE DATABASE 11GR2

    Hi everyone
    I have the following issue:
    I tried to store in an oracle database TABLE the completre file structure
    of a file system that includes the follwing:
    -Name of the file
    -Date of last modification
    -Location
    -The entire content of the phisical file BLOB datatype
    I have the following piece of code to archieve this, but i still have a
    problem...
    When i tried to add the records to the database by implememting all
    the connecttions stuffs, oracle and java classes required the program
    inserts a FEW RECORDS and after that:
    ¡¡¡hangs up!!!.
    The main problem is that i cant release the connection and get another new when i using
    JDBC POOL so the server full their available connections.
    Please tell me what is the best approach or programming practice on order to
    meet this goal.
    Thanks from Colombia - Latin America..

    Thanks for the reply, the implementation that you refer is useful for another type of application i need to stored the file system in a TABLE of a database
    in order to make a part of an information system integration and can use SQL statements to acomplish this.
    I follow the recomendation and post it in the SQL/JDBC forum because when i try to release de active connection i can't acomplish this.
    And i need to know how to use JDBC connection poolling to open a connection just once, release and use it again.

  • How to store a varying length string in the database

    Hi,
    what is the best way to store a string (which can be infinitely long) in the database?

    Thanks in advance for any enlightenment!

    Is this a JDBC question?
    Meta data solutions mean that you will only find problems at runtime that would be obvious at compile time with a non-metadata solution. Code generation makes production of large numbers of these easy.
    But if you want metadata then you create a seperate class in a seperate package which holds the constants. The specifics depend on the implementation but you will typically have one class for each 'type' that is supported.
    That package is used by both the server and the client code.
    You can of course put other common functionality in the package (like a wrappers for the collections themselves, validation of names, etc.)

    Each RDBMS have your own data dictionary... you must check documention of ORACLE to query the properly data dictionary.
    Try it:
    select * from users_tables where table_name = 'articles'

  • Store value of multiple checkboxes in the database

    Hello,
    I have a table structure as table (masterid, types). Types has four values as AAA, BBB, CCC, DDD.
    I was wondering if there is any easiest and good way to implement this in Oracle forms. Currently, I have four checkboxes in the form. Each checkboxes has When-Checkbox-Changed trigger. In the trigger, I have put insert and delete statement depending on the value of the checkbox.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Ammad,
    Thank you for your reply.
    I would really like the see the actuall table structure which you are having.
    I have created a sample script identical to my table structure.
    DROP TABLE "PEOPLE_INTERESTS" ;
    DROP TABLE PEOPLE;
    CREATE TABLE "PEOPLE"
    (     "PEOPLEID" NUMBER,
         "FNAME" VARCHAR2(40 BYTE) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "LNAME" VARCHAR2(40 BYTE) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         CONSTRAINT "PEOPLE_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("PEOPLEID")
    insert into PEOPLE(PEOPLEID,FNAME,LNAME) VALUES(11111, 'ANDY', 'ADAMS');
    insert into PEOPLE(PEOPLEID,FNAME,LNAME) VALUES(22222, 'BRIAN', 'BANK');
    insert into PEOPLE(PEOPLEID,FNAME,LNAME) VALUES(33333, 'CAROL', 'CAMPS');
    DROP TABLE "INTERESTS_TYPE" ;
    CREATE TABLE "INTERESTS_TYPE"
    (          "INTERESTID" CHAR(3 BYTE),
    "INTERESTS" CHAR(30 BYTE),
              CONSTRAINT "INTERESTS_TYPE_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("INTERESTID")
    insert into INTERESTS_TYPE(INTERESTID,INTERESTS) VALUES('AAA', 'AGRICULTURE');
    insert into INTERESTS_TYPE(INTERESTID,INTERESTS) VALUES('BBB', 'BOOKS');
    insert into INTERESTS_TYPE(INTERESTID,INTERESTS) VALUES('CCC', 'COMPUTER');
    insert into INTERESTS_TYPE(INTERESTID,INTERESTS) VALUES('DDD', 'FINANCE');
    CREATE TABLE "PEOPLE_INTERESTS"
    (          "PEOPLEID" NUMBER,
    "INTERESTID" CHAR(3 BYTE)
         CONSTRAINT "PEOPLE_INTERESTS_CHECK" CHECK (Interestid IN ('AAA', 'BBB','CCC','DDD')) ENABLE,
         CONSTRAINT "FK_PEOPLE_INTERESTS" PRIMARY KEY ("PEOPLEID", "INTERESTID"),
    CONSTRAINT "FK_PEOPLE_INTERESTS_PEOPLE" FOREIGN KEY ("PEOPLEID")
         REFERENCES "PEOPLE" ("PEOPLEID") ,
    CONSTRAINT "FK_PEOPLE_INTERESTS_TYPE" FOREIGN KEY ("INTERESTID")
         REFERENCES "INTERESTS_TYPE" ("INTERESTID")
    insert into PEOPLE_INTERESTS(PEOPLEID,INTERESTID) VALUES(11111,'AAA');
    insert into PEOPLE_INTERESTS(PEOPLEID,INTERESTID) VALUES(11111,'CCC');
    insert into PEOPLE_INTERESTS(PEOPLEID,INTERESTID) VALUES(33333,'CCC');
    insert into PEOPLE_INTERESTS(PEOPLEID,INTERESTID) VALUES(33333,'BBB');
    insert into PEOPLE_INTERESTS(PEOPLEID,INTERESTID) VALUES(33333,'DDD');
    In the form, when user search for 'ANDY ADAMS', the out of four checkboxes,''AGRICULTURE'' and 'COMPUTER' checkboxes should be checked.

    You need SMB compatible names.. for both TC and if you use wireless then wireless.. short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
    Go to the disk file sharing page.. turn on guest account.. read and write access.
    Give it the right workgroup .. usually WORKGROUP
    Load bonjour for windows onto the windows machine.. that should be included with the airport utility for windows.

  • How to find all the sql executed in the database

    Hi
    We want to be able to collect all the sql statements executed in the database and be able to dump them in a file or a table. Can anyone tell me how we can get that done?
    Regards,

    if you are using oracle 10g, you can use one of the
    option of datapump tool to do thisthat's new to me, can you show us how ?
    For OP, you can check v$sqlarea view to find out all the sql statement still in shared_pool, however, there's no guarantee you will have all sql executed since database started.
    Like other poster mentioned, enable auditing if you want to collect that information.

  • Storing dymanic content in the database

    I am trying to allow the user to create their own "reports" and I need them to be able to store content with variables names into the database.
    for example
    A user would type the following information into a multi-line text box and store that in a SQL database field.
    Hello, #firstName#, Thank you for contacting us on #contactdate#.  If there is anything I can help you with, please contact me at #companyPhone#.
    There would then be a page that would look like this:
    <cfquery name="getContent" datasource="x">
    select usercontent
    from contenttable
    where id = 1
    </cfquery>
    <cfquery name="getList" datasource="x">
    select firstname, contactdate, email
    from userlist
    </cfquery>
    <cfmail to="#email" from="[email protected]" subject="Follow up" query="getList">
    #getContent.usercontent#
    </cfmail>
    So basically, I want the  email to be compiled from the text that the user enters into the DB, and the variables populated with the correct info.
    I've tried playing with the evaluate() and de() fields but I cant get on the right track.
    If I use #evaluate(getcontent.usercontent)# I can get it to work, only using 1 variable.  I cant get it to work with the whole paragraph of text.
    any help would be greatly appreciated.
    steve

    after more digging I found a solution that worked:
    <cffunction access="private" name="ConvertLinks" returntype="string">
              <cfargument name="theContent" type="string" required="yes">
        <cfset var theReturn=arguments.theContent>
         <!--- setup each field that may be used --->
        <Cfsavecontent variable="firstname">#firstname#</Cfsavecontent>
        <Cfsavecontent variable="contactdate">#contactdate#</Cfsavecontent>
        <Cfsavecontent variable="email">#clinicianid#</Cfsavecontent>
         <!--- replace each field that may be used, case sensative --->
        <Cfset theReturn=replace(theReturn,firstname,Evaluate(de(firstname)),"All")>
        <Cfset theReturn=replace(theReturn,contactdate,Evaluate(de(contactdate)),"All")>
        <Cfset theReturn=replace(theReturn,email,Evaluate(de(email)),"All")>
         <!--- return the usable value --->
              <cfreturn theReturn>
    </cffunction>
    and I call
    <cfoutput>#convertlinks(getContent.usercontent)# </cfoutput>
    on my page.

  • Can I run a report based on the occurance of an event in the database

    (eg some data has been inserted into a table)?
    I read in the FAQ of Report that is possible and i have to use some PL/SQL stored procedures in the database that use the UTL_HTTP package (available in 7.3 or later) to issue the HTTP request to the server to run the report. However in the next release of Oracle Reports (Reports 9i), some PL/SQL procedures will be supplied to accomplish this.
    Have someone any idea about this? and if someone have this package, can he send me an example.
    thanks in advance.

  • I've got an iMac with database corruption found in the DB.. What happens if I rebuild the DB, an option the Database Utility is giving me? Will it wipe out my files or will they be protected?

    Hi all,
    I've been having issues with my iMac, particularly with the Office:Mac Suite.  I took it to the Genius Bar and they confirmed there was some corruption and decided the best thing would be to transfer all my files to the external hard drive I had brought with me.  After the transfer, they completely wiped all apps off the computer, then reloaded them.  They then reloaded my data from the external hard drive back to the computer hard drive. I reloaded the Office mac 2008 Suite when I got home.  Since then I have hooked up the external hard drive back to the computer (it's my time machine) and all is well, except, when I open any of the programs on the Office: Mac suite, I get the following message:
    There is a problem with the Office database
    Office might be unable to access the database or the database files might be damaged.  Without the database, you might beunable to use the Address Book, Scrapbook. and other features that store your personal information
    To rebuild the database, open Microsoft Office 2008/Office, and then open the Microsoft Databse Utility.  For more information, open the Database Utility application, and on the Help menu, click Database Utility Help.
    I did this and it gives me the option of rebuilding the DB but it gives no indication if there is danger of losing all my files.  Does anybody else know what will happen?  Is there another solution?  Should I simply reload the Office: Mac suite again?
    Help!
    Tami

    Copy your DB to the internal hard drive and then run the rebuilder.
    It might be the in the process of reinstalling Office the copy protection file was removed and thus you need to revalidate or something also.
