Regular kernel panics, most noticeable with Flash usage. I suspect it has to do with RAM, hard drive space, or overheating.
Hi, would massively appreciate it if anyone would be able to point me in the direction of what's causing fairly regular kernel panics and general poor performance of my 2007 Macbook. Running 2gb Ram, hard drive space is running low (90% full), but seems to operate fine until I hit flash videos, when it stutters, stalls, and, if I push it too far, crashes. Is it directly related to hard drive space? Here's the log:

Hello,
I hope to get some advice regarding regular kernel panics on my mac mini. They occur about every 1-2 days and have for quite some time. They began before Snow Leopard and upgrading didn't resolve the problem. I have followed the steps outlined in http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html without success. Techtools repeatedly shows no problem. I've repaired permissions and used Disk Warrior and even reformatted the drive and clean installed Snow Leopard without success. Apple Hardware Test showed 4M0T/1/40000002: Master once which I believe is the fan. The extended test didn't show any problems and every time since it has shown no problems with the hardware. Nevertheless I replaced the fan with no change in the frequency of kernel panics. I don't have any 3rd party drivers. I have PRAM reset and SMC reset with no success. I have a kernel panic log

I'm stumped. Could it be the RAM even though TTD shows no problem? Or the hard drive? Both RAM and Hard Drive are original Apple installed.I reinstalled using the original Tiger 10.4.10 install disks and everything seemed to run ok although I just left it running and didn't really task it for 3 days. I asked an Apple Service Tech his opinion and he thought it was most likely RAM but if not RAM then it's the logic board. Any other suggestions?

when i take a picture with flash in a dark place , the photo appears with a blue line . how can i default this ? is this normal ???
You probably have a filter set for the normal camera mode but not the square.
To fix, in Photo mode, touch the filter icon (three circles) and select None for the filter. -
Boots to flashing question mark folder and disc utility cannot locate internal hard drive
Bottling my MacBook Pro I end up with a flashing question mark folder. I reboot holding the option key to select discs and there were no options at all. I plug in an Ethernet cable and it shows a internet recovery option. I click and it downloaded a temporary recovery mode. From there I open disc utility but it doesn't find any internal hard drives. I reset the pram and I still get the flashing question mark folder. Thinking it was my internal hard drive that failed I bought and replaced the internal hd with a new one and repeated all the processes and still no internal hard drive was found. I'm stuck with the flashing question mark folder. Therefore I've concluded that it was my MacBook pros internal hard drive CABLE that had failed. Does anyone know of any other possible problems that is causing this for my MacBook Pro or know of any solutions? Or is replacing my internal hd cable the only solution? Please help!
It was the internal HD cable. I replaced it and now my MacBook Pro works

I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space (32 GB), and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run itunes from an external hard drive? I have tried to follow some of the directions on this site, but am having no success. Thanks.
iTunes will run fine with the media on an external drive.
However, I suggest that a tablet computer with a tiny hard drive is not ideal as the primary computer for managing an iTunes library, even a small one. If you have another machine, perhaps a big, boxy, inexpensive old desktop with a decent amount of storage, that might be a better choice.

I had an HP laptop with Itunes on it and kept my library on an external hard drive. I had a 160gb classic Ipod.
My computer died and i am buying a new one (mac is out of budget)
When I get my new computer, obviously I will download Itunes. My Ipod still has all the music on it and the external hard drive is ok.
I don't want to "erase" or lose any information when I sync with a new itunes that is "empty"
What are the steps? After I download Itunes and set the folder location to my external harddrive what is next? Will Itunes recognize my IPOD? Will it load the music/list from my ipd or external into itunes?

I bought a brand new Mac 27" desktop that came loaded with Adobe CS6. Everything worked like a charm until the hard drive, 1Tb, developed a bad sector and the Apple Store reinstalled a new one as I had extended warranty with them. They recycled the drive immediately (like a fool I didn't ask for it back to get the data off it.) But luckily I have all my data on CrashPlan. I downloaded it and it worked great except I downloaded it to the desktop and not the original location so it got squirrely. I also have an external 1.5Tb drive that I wanted to make bootable so I installed Mavericks 10.9.3 . I then went ahead and installed it on the newly installed drive too.
I think that because I have a new drive Adobe thinks I have a news computer. I bought the 27" Mac brand new from Ebay and it came loaded with software, including CS6. I have a serial number for CS6 but Adobe said it wasn't valid. (I have owned CS2, CS4 and now CS6 which came preloaded onto the Mac by the seller who told me that the software was registered to the Mac???
I am going to re-download the backup but this time to the original location (I still don't think it will work with Adobe. What can I do about this?

Missing hard drive space after aborted attempt at sharing iMovie project with YouTube
So, recently I tried sharing an iMovie project with YouTube. I clicked on the project in my project library, then selected share with YouTube from the drop down menu. I chose to share it as a HD 720 project. At this point, I had 27 GB of free hard drive space. After the project was converted (or whatever it's called, a process which took about half an hour, and which left me with about 6.5 GB of hard drive space), but before the project was actually exported or shared with or uploaded or published to YouTube (the second step), I saw that it was going to take three hours to upload, so I decided I wanted to share it as a non-HD video, in order to save time and space on my HD. I cancelled the upload. I then deleted the project in my imovie projects folder (since it now had the HD logo beside the name), intending to just start over and share the project in 960x540. Thing is, after deleting every trace of it I could find in iMovie, in my Documents Folder, in my Movies folder, and in iTunes, I only reclaimed 4 GB of space on my hard drive (leaving me with 10 GB). So what happened to the missing 17 GBs, and how can I get them back? Also, the amount of space used in order to share that project just seems excessive to me, so I realize that something else might be going on here. Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments?

how do i get iPhoto to stop bothering me with Mobile Me Migration windows when everything's already on my hard drive?
Click "More Info", not "o.k.".
Then open the iPhoto Preferences "Accounts" tab and remove the "Mobile Me" account, if it is still there.
Quit iPhoto.
Check, if "Mobile Me" is still enabled in the System Preferences > Mobile Me panel (if you still have this panel). if yes, sign out.
Log off and on again.
Test, if iPhoto still is bugging you to transfer your Mobile Me content. If yes, you need to delete your iPhoto Preferences from your User Library.
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
And also remove the file
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto/mmsunset.plist
from the Caches in the User Library - this file contain the end date of Mobile me. -
Do you have any ideas why Motion 5 would run slow on a computer? I have an Imac with 8Gigs of ram, and plenty of hard drive space, but it still gives me the beach ball when I add a few lights and effects. I'm at the end of my rope.
You probably don't really need 1080 at 60 for your finished projects but since you're just starting out with Motion, you need to lower your expectations. A long way. 1080 is about 2 million pixels per frame, DV is only about 400,000. That's not just five times as many pixels for the Mac to track; everything in video is exponential.
Explore the training tutorials available by Mark Spencer. You will get an idea of how his super powerful machine reacts with the software.
Adding a light roughly doubles the processing time over flat scenes. Two lights increases processing again. Reflections require processing the lights and then calculating the reflections so add another quarter of the time required for flat scenes. Add camera movement, motion blur, and depth of field and you need exponentially more processing time for every frame. The preload of renders into RAM is one of the cooler features of Motion, as comapred to After Effects, but that takes tons of time, to.
Try working in ye olde DV resolution for a few days. Get to know the software's limitations and what gets imposed by your Macintosh. Step up to 720p/30 and see how things slow down. -
My macbook pro is still under warranty. I have just put it into Mac 1 to be repaired because I had the folder with the dreaded Question mark on it....new hard drive. I was told that if I wanted my data retrieved, I would have to pay $445 p/h. Ahh!!! Shouldn't that be covered by warranty?
My newest Mac just did the same "folder of death" dance. It's too late for you now, but you might consider a passport backup drive.You can get 2&3 T-bytes now fairly reasonably priced. A given with computers is they will crash, just a question of how bad and when, so you can be prepared for the next time.

Re-installing Windows 7 with more hard drive space via bootcamp - Help!
I have installed Windows 7 via bootcamp with success. However I didn't give enough hard drive space to Bootcamp (only 6MB available! Whoops...) Can I just delete the Boot Camp partition and start again or is it more complicated?

Yes, BUT...
... there are many problems that are really easy to eliminate by replacing the Hard drive, including ones that have nothing to do with actual Drive Hardware failure. These include corrupted install of Mac OS X, its EFI partition, clobbered partition tables, or the appearance of Bad Blocks in a critical area.
Any of these problems can sometimes be eliminated by re-initializing the entire drive and writing Zeroes, and re-installing from scratch. The trouble is, this process takes hours to complete, and is not guaranteed to be successful -- you may still need a new drive after all that effort.
I learned from my Plumber that consumers have no appetite for solutions that might work, and detest return visits for any related problems whatsoever. You or your friend may have had your drive replaced, not because it actually failed, but because the situation was troublesome, and the provider thought you would not tolerate anything less than a crisp, complete fix on the first attempt. And based on the cost of technician time, it may have even been cheaper that way. -
I'm having difficulty publishing via ftp to Machighway, I suspect this has to do with the fact I seperated my webpages into 3 sites in iWeb. Can any one tell me how to undo this in iWeb?
You'll have to describe in detail the workflow you're using to upload to Machighway and any messages/warnings that you get along the way. Also what version of iWeb are you using and are you publishing just one of your sites?
