Running two versions of java, is it possible?

Hi everyone, I've got two applications, both incorporate applets, but one uses 1.3 and the other uses 1.4. Im stuck as I need to run these two programs at the same time. The reason I cant just use 1.3 is because one uses JTree's which were introduced in 1.4 (am I correct?) . SO if thats the case, is there anyway to use two versions of java on the same machine.????????????

What is the best way to run multiple versions of Java on one laptop so our users can access all of the Java based applications?
Business Objects requires Java 6, and the bank application require Java 8.

Given that that's been possible for over a decade, there's no need for such "tools". All you need is knowledge of your operating system.

Running two versions of Firefox?

Some web-based applications that I use will not work properly with Firefox 3, but will work with Firefox 2. Can I have both versions of Firefox on my iMac and select between them, or will they interfere with each other? Would it help if I put one on my external hard drive and run it from there (if that is possible)?

you can have two versions of FF but you can't run them both from the same account as they will interfere with each other.
You can make a new user account and run FF3 from your main account and FF2 from the new account.

no, that would make no difference at all.

Two versions of java on same OS

I have installed on my OS (Windows 2000 Prof) two versions of SDK (v.1.3.1 and respectively v.1.4.0).
I want to compile and run some application with one version or another.
What changes do i make in order to set one version (for use in compilation and running) ?

It depends on what IDE you work with. Or if you compile and run at the command prompt, use a batch file to set the correct values for the required variables.

Run two versions of Mac OS Simultaneously

I'll skip the reason, as to not confuse the issue.
I have Mavericks installed on my Air, and Lion installed on an external drive. I can boot into either one, but I would like to run them both simultaneously. Is there VM software or something similar, that will allow me to run them both at the same time and switch back and forth?

Exactly what I am doing right now. I have VMware running two OS plus the host. Mac OS X *forbidden name* as the host, Mac OS X Mavericks and Windows 7 as VMware. I can tell you this, when you install the Mac OS X on the VMware, it will have a 4:3 resolution. In order to fix that, you'll have to manually install VMware Tools. For Windows VMware machines, it's installed automatically.
However, I do agree with the other two on battery life and RAM space needed. I can't tell you where the cut off point is, because I am on a Mac Mini with 16Gb of ram. So I haven't ran out... Only lost power but so did my whole neighborhood. If that was caused by the Mac Mini... I'm in trouble. lol

Hi there, I saw some youtube video, it says that after we update, FCPX will ask:
"Do you want to move the old projects and events to the trash ?
If you no longer need the old versions of your updated projects and events, click Move to Trash, To save them, click Save"
So, the question are:
1) if we click Save, our old Events folder and Projects folder will be saved in another folder ?
2) if we click save, will this cause our disk drive to be doubled ?
3) does this mean this is another chance to copy/backup the old Events folder and Projects folder ?
4) after clicking Save, where will the files be saved ?
5) after clicking Save, will the files in the Events folder and Projects folder be in hte form of old/exisiting structure or new structure ?

Running two versions of OPA/OPM suite concurrently on one PC

Hi all,
On my current project, I have a couple of rulebases in version 10.1 which have been deployed. However, a new business release/ stage in my project has started which means we are going to work in OPA 10.3 from this point on. The 'old' rulebases (10.1) will be integrated into the new environment eventually and will be maintained in 10.1 for the time being. So here's my question: would it be possible for me to run OPM 10.1 AND 10.3 next to eachother on my PC (without a virtual machine or something), so that I can view the old projects in 10.1 style and the new ones in 10.3? I don't want to simply upgrade, because the old rulebases need to be maintained in version 10.1 as well.

Different versions of 10.x cannot be run side-by-side on the same machine. Need to use virtual machines if you want to use different releases of 10.x.

I go to Oracle's download page for Java EE SDK and got these two options:

java_ee_sdk-6u4-windows.exeMy doubt is what is "-ml" version? Which one should I use?

every time I've tried to install JEE6 so far I had to manually tell the installer where to find the JDK...I would just use the Glassfish installer directly, it works very well even when there are multiple runtimes installed (at least on my computer).

We are planning to upgrade EBS11i to 12. Till now we used Jinitiator to bring up the applet from the Client machine but EBS12 uses Java 1.6_07 version.
we have discoverer 10.1.2.0.2 that uses Java 1.4_x version and now EBS that uses version 1.6_07
Question is:
Can we configure two java versions on the same client machine for different application.

Running two versions of Safari

The 1.3.2 version of Safari that I'm running on OS X (10.4.9) is not compatible with the Blackboard classroom application that I need to access for a conference next week. The Blackboard website offers no solution. Is it possible to download an older Safari version while keeping the newer version? If yes, how do I download an older version, where do I find it, and where should both versions be stored? If no, what might be the issues involved in replacing a newer version with an older version?

I access Blackboard fairly regularly with no issues, and I use Safari. What version does it say you need? Currently, I am using the Safari Beta with no problem. But before that I used Safari version 2. Does your version of Safari have a debug menu? If so you could try using the user agent, and selecting the browser the site calls for under that. Strange your running the latest version of OSX, but an old version of Safari. You could also download a free application called Tinker tool and enable the debug menu if it is not there.

I seem to be running two versions of firefox at the same time help!

I seem to be running an older version and a new version of firefox at the same time. I run the new version from startup (it forgets previous tabs from last session) and this sadly does not let me use back and forward arrow buttons so its a bit useless. Strangely when I pop an email window up, the older version of firefox appears with the last few tabs I had browsed.
disabling plugins stops browser starting in new version and back and forward arrows work ok.

You can install them both but there are a few steps to take.
When you install Firefox 4 use the custom installation option and choose a different location to install Firefox.
In order to use both versions, you need to create a new profile for Firefox 4 (Firefox stores user data in the profile). Using the same profile with different versions can cause problems. Once you create a new profile you can copy certain data such as bookmarks and passwords between them. You can also use Firefox Sync to keep the profiles synchronized. Finally, you will need to set up shortcuts to launch the correct profile for each version.

Running two versions of iLife and keeping iMovie 6

Actually two questions.
Is it possible to keep iLife 08 and also install Life 09 in the same computer.
And MOST importantly if I install the iLife09 package will I loose iMovie 06 which I have used so much and have so much material I am working on?

iMovie 06 won't be deleted but iLife 08 will. You could copy them to a separate hard drive and copy them back after 09 installation. But iLife09 will upgrade iPhoto library and iMovie project files, so chances are iLife08 won't work correctly.

Running two versions of Designer?

I have Designer 7.0 installed as part of CS2 and was wanting to install a trial version of 7.1 (?) to test out the tables feature. Is it possible to keep both versions on one machine without any problems? If not, and I install the trial, can I simply reinstall 7.0 from my CS disks after using the trial?
