Several LR3 issues - Crashes, memory dumps, and other oddities

I recently built a new PC dedicated to my photo work.
i7 2600k, 16gb DDR 3 ripjaws, 128GB crucial m4 SSD, (2) x 1TB 7200 HDDs (mirrored), Sapphire Radeon HD 5570.
The first month or so of use LR worked great. However, recently I have been getting several errors and oddities.
1) Randomly closes. I can restart it without a problem and pick back up where I left off. There are not warnings or signs that it is about to close.. it just does.
2) "Unexpected end of file". Unable to edit photo. Preview does show, however. I have never seen this error before on other machines.
3) Memory dumps. I assume this is related to LR3 as that is the only program I am actively using when it happens (Chome is always open as well, however) I will have the dump files examined to know for sure.
4) Something new that just started today. In the preview bar on the bottom, as I scroll through the photos I see the previews of other photos.. some photos from other folders I took weeks or months ago. When I hover over the image it changes to what it should be. I am seeing 2 instances of this. 1 with a photo from this particular shoot and one from one I did over a month ago. Everything I scroll back and forth (rapidly or not) as the previews load it loads the wrong files first, multiple times (around 8 or 9 in a row) and then they slowly change to what it should be.
I am not sure if I am properly describing this error but it is really weird.
Also, this seems to only happen on the images off a CF card. I was borrowing a friends D200 as a 2nd body for a party. When I scroll through the images off my SD card I do not see the issue appear. When I get to the CF portion of the folder is when I see the problem....
I just updated LR today but these issues occured prior to the update and still exist afterwards.
Do I need to do a fresh install of LR?
What precautions do I need to take in doing so to insure my catalogue stays intact?
Thanks for your help.

I am still having issues.
The crash dumps are far less frequent now. I think it may have been a catalogue issue maybe? I started a new one and things were better.
However, I am consistantly getting the "Lightroom has stopped working" and it closes down..... repeatedly. Very Very annoying.
It is not a major issue to just restart Lightroom, esp since it is on an SSD, it pops right back up instantly.
All of my files are on the HDD, however, not the SSD.
I had reinstalled LR3 once before which did not help. Any other suggestinos?
I can't imagine a reinstall of Windows would do anything for me. I have no issues with anything other than LR.
Could my video card be playing a role in the errors? I do notice weird random artifacts in my images sometimes when I add a brush stroke, or clone something out. Or sometimes just simply zooming in will great these weird multicolored lines in the image. Zooming out makes it go away. It is random when it shows up and often times closing and reopening LR will make it go away. So these are not permanent artifacts in the image unless I export the file with them showing. This leads me to think maybe the video card is having some issues. All drivers are up to date. It is not a high end card. Based on all my research when buidling this machine, a basic video card is all that is needed as RL is CPU and memory intensive, which is where I put most of my $. (i7 2600k and 16GB DDR3)

  • Hanging start up and other oddities

    Hanging Startup and other oddities
I'm not especially proficient with the upkeep and terminology that comes with the programming aspect of Macs, so, if you do help, if you could please put whatever advice you have in lay terms, it would really help me out.
I've had my laptop computer for going on three years now, and I've never had a problem like this before. My machine started to really slow down yesterday morning, and generally when ever it does that, I just do a quick restart, and everything is back at normal. Well, not so yesterday.
To begin with, it took me to the grey screen, and it just stayed there for about ten minuets. It didn't change, didn't move to load the apple insignia, nothing. So I gave it a forced restart, and it did it again, except it load the apple logo.
Third time, it got me to blue screen. On restart #4 (force restart #3), it finally loads into my desk top, but the slow processing remained. I tried to go in and repair disk permissions, but then it froze up, and I forced a restart. This time, back to the grey screen.
I lost count as to how many time I restarted, but I finally went and rooted out my OS disks, and did a restart with disk 1 in, holding down PR+CtrlApple (It was my understanding that this would zap the P-Ram, and would at lest sort of help with whatever my problem was). Well, it took me to grey screen, but now a small folder is in the center of my screen. going from the finder icon to a "?" in the middle of the folder.
Did a restart holding down the "C" key, and it went into the install screen that launches from the disk. I was able to click through to select the drive I wanted, then my hard drive didn't show up as a possible selection. Yet ANOTHER C key restart, and this time it showed up.
Went through the first loading screen, where it is checking permissions, and everything's fine, but when I get to the installation process, it tells me there is an error with my perimeters, and I should restart and try again. Did this again, and I had to start over from square one.
I tried just a normal restart after three or four attempts at an installation, and now, whenever I load it without C depressed, a grey box shows up in the middle of my screen with an image of the globe on it, and it flashes. Nothing else loads until I do a restart.
It's my impression this, obviously, isn't a good sign and I should get in contact with someone who knows what they're doing and can walk me through it and get my computer running again. I thought I'd run it by you guys here before I called Apple, and, hopefully, you guys can help me out/help me better describe my problem. Any help you can give - links to other threads, experiences, what something means, what to tell a technician that I'm looking at/going through, anything at all, will help me tremendously.
Thanks for your help and time,
    Brittany

Hey Gary, thanks for the welcome!
By the time I was able to pull your suggestions off of the form, I had already done a few things to my computer, as per recommended by the Apple site. This article is what I was pulling my steps off of.
I started at step 4 (Selecting the "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications") and went through to step 8, semi-step i.
1 - I tried to start up in safe mode (Shift+Restart) and I logged several kernal panic screens before I even got to the apple insignia on a grey screen.
2 - I ran Disk Utility several times, and would come up with an error and a notice that the utility had quit. The first time I ran it, I noticed that it had found a lot of Oprhaned indirect iNodes, and by the second time the utility was ran, they no longer showed up in the right pane of the box. The fifth time it ran, it took roughly two hours to complete, and actually went all the way through.
3 - Still would not load past the grey screen, so I went through and did fsck check a couple of times, and it told me that my machine appeared to be ok. I got all the way through the step where it tells you to run a fsck, then type in a mv Preferences Preferences_old, then did a reboot and let my computer load.
When it finally did load (the actual boot up and load took about ten minuets, which is about seven minuets slower than normal), it took forever to do any commands that I issued. I went through and backed up all of my files onto my external, and then I went to go follow the rest of the step, and my computer froze up. I decided to save the rest of the procedure for today, when I can find some time.
The basic thing that I'm concerned about now is that the machine is running exceptionally slow. It loaded Safari and a couple of other applications I'm always in, but it took roughly ten times longer than normal to do anything.
Since it's recignising the machine and loading into my desktop, I was going to see if I can now do a safe restart and see if I can follow any of the steps that are dictated by the site, but I'm still not certian if that will work. Last time I tried it, I got a kernal panic screen.
    Anything I should try?

  • Not able to memory dump and create a memory.dmp file in the path: %SystemRoot%\Minidump

This question is a part of my job profile. I work for an MNC chip maker. As a part of our systems testing environment, we boot into the Microsoft windows 8.1 windows OS and run some specific tests from the OS. The platform design (mother board) is an internal
    design.
Issue is with the booting sequence since no much information is available when Windows 8.1 tries to boot and when we see the splash screen. Especially when we see a BSOD, there had been no leads.
I tried to enable the small memory dump option in Windows 8.1 OS which tries to write the files into the location %SystemRoot%\Minidump on a system crash while boot. Please note that Windows 8.1 has been stored as a .VHD file in the hard disk (which
is the boot-disk). The issue is, even in an event of a BSOD while booting, I am not able to see any memory dump files that had been logged in that location.
Is this issue would have been caused by the VHD file format since it is a virtualized disk ? Please let me know what all the issues could be, so that I can have some memory logs here to look into. May be analyze the Windows debugger.
    Best Regards
    Akhil

    Hi,
The causes why Windows does not save memory dump file after a crash are listed in the link below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/130536
I suggest you check the space, make sure that there's enough room for the memory dump file.

I recently discovered a severe Security issue with the windows sharing an permission settings:

On the harddrive, i have three folders, Itunes, Iphoto (Package) and a Temp Folder. I want to share the Harddrive RW for the admin, but only R for the parental user. But the Temp folder should be accessible for RW for the parental as well.
    1. I set the Drive checkbox "ignore ownership" off.
    2. I set the permissions of the drive to admin RW, parental R and Everyone to "no access"
    3. I apply to enclosed Items

    8. I add the Disk and use the proposed permissions which are admin RW, parental R, Everyone "no access"
    9. I add the Temp folder and use the proposed permissions which are admin RW, parental RW, Everyone "no access" - Funny, there is a new Group called "Temp" created which has custom access on both sharepoints
    10. I connect to the mac over a Windows machine (NTLM auth set appropriatly). Now I try to create a folder on the root of the Disk share, I get a denied message.
BUT WHEN I GO INTO A SUBFOLDER (eg. ITUNES or IPHOTO), WHICH HAS ALSO JUST "R" PERMISSION FOR THE PARENTAL USER, I AM ABLE TO RW, DELETE AND DO EVERYTHING!!!
TO RECAPITULATE: THE SHARING PERMISSIONS ARE "R", AND THE FILE PERMISSIONS IN THE RESPECTIVE FOLDERS FOR THE RESPECTIVE USER ARE ALSO JUST "R". BUT THE USER CAN DO EVERYTHING IN THE SUBFOLDERS!!!

  • Recovering from PC Crash - tag, category and other files

I have had to rebuild my PC due to virus and other issues in getting rid of the virus.
I did backup a good part of the PC and hope that I included some of the Photoshop Elements 9 files that I need.
Can anyone help me with info on where to look for files that would contain tags, categories, albums, and other items that I created in Organizer to help manage my pictures?
I would like to make sure that these files get backed up regularly.
Also if you know how to install these files after reinstalling PSE it would be helpful too.
    Regards,
    Amby N

    Search your backup for
    *.pse9db
and restore the entire directory containing that file (including sub-directories).
You can restore that directory to any location and, in Organizer, use File...Catalog...Custom Location to browse to the location of that directory to use its catalog.
Here's the system I use for my data files:  Since I have several programs which use their own databases, I created the following directory
    C:\Data
and subdirectories under it for each program.  For example, I have a
    C:\Data\PSE Organizer\Catalogs\Test01
directory for my "Test01" catalog, and so forth.  It's then easy to use WinZip to simply zip up the entire C:\Data directory to create a backup file of all the data for all my programs.

  • Distiller 8.1.3 Crashes on Startup, and Other Pro8 Woes

I bought Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 a couple years ago, and Distiller 8.1.3 has never worked.  I have a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5, currently running 10.4.11.  Whenever I double-click Distiller, it doesn't even get as far as an opening screen before it crashes.  All it tells me is:
    The application Distiller quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Meanwhile, I've never been able to create a PDF using the print function.  I make the settings, it goes through the motions, an icon of a laser printer or something appears down on the toolbar, and no file is created.
What I really need this for is to create a PDF of my book interiors from Quark XPress 7 for the print-on-demand printer.  Formerly, they've been able to work with exported PDFs, but now they claim they absolutely need it done with Distiller.
    Any suggestions?

    Try the Following:
Go to Printer Setup Utility and remove AdobePDF from Printer list.
Choose either Acrobat or Reader from from help menu choose repair installation.
    Click on AdobePDF.
Now try to create a PDF.
Open Disk Utilities and Try repair permissions.
since your using X.4 look for and download AppleJack.
Restart in SingleUser Mode (Command -S) and when B&W screen finishes loading Text info and there is a Blinking cursor.
At that point Type applejack.go through all the procedures do items 3 & four both for system and for each user. When finished type return then choose restart.
If that doesn't work you may have a problem with Print driver. It not be up to date.
Go to Printer's website and download the latest version.
Next go to Printer Setup and remove you printer from the printer list.
Next open and install the New Driver (even if exactly the same version as previous).
Now try to create a PDF either by Apple's print menu PDF button. Or by choosing AdobePDF in the print menu.
    If that don't work try:
Gather up your Acrobat install Disk and download from Adobe Support > Udates , all items related to Acrobat 8.
Now open Acrobat Director (Folder) and choose uninstall.
Next from finder choose file menu > Find. When opens up type in first Acrobat and remove all items associated with Acrobat 8 to trash and empty. Make sure they are only related to acrobat.
Next Type Adobe and repeat. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR PDF'S.
Now run Disk Utility and repair permissions.
Install install Acrobat and  open. Close the run each updater in turn.
Now try to create a PDF. If none of this works then you might have some type of extension, control panel, or other item installed in your system interfering. Most ly you don't and one of the bove methods will get you running.
(Please note information is given by an Experienced User of Acrobat. I am not an employee of Adobe.)

  • Issues with color panel and other windows on right side of flash

Ok the issue I'm having with flash is that the windows on the right side of my flash window do not snap up when I collapse a window. I am attaching a screen shot to better explain this issue.
As you can see I have the color panel collapsed up, when I expand this panel and it goes down everything shifts down. however when I collapse it back up a huge gap is left behind in CS5.5 as is displayed in screen shot number 2. In CS4 I never had this problem. I could expand and collapse panels as I saw fit with no problems what so ever. Everytime now that I expand a panel and collapse it, the library or other panels do not move up with the collapsing. This causes a workspace issue. and forces me to drag up the library via the black line that is just above it but below the align panel so that I have better access to my library or properties panel for when I'm working. I find this highly annoying and would like it if there could be a fix produced to make it so this collapsing issue can be fixed and I don't have to waste time dragging up the library/properties panel everytime I need to access stuff in my library when I have a huge list of graphics I'm going through.
    Thanks

I already tried that, first thing I thought of before coming to the forums for a solution.
    Thanks anyways.

  • Crashing my safari and other apps frequently

    Hi,
I am facing the the same problems for months, My safari and other apps are crashing frequently and  sometimes my phone is also hanged. Its very hard to work. sometimes touch is too slow and work after few seconds, what should I do for these? could you please tell me.
    Thanks,
    Reza

Wr are just fellow users on here, until Apple announce something nobody on here will know.
You could see if the following help. Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could see if turning off iCloud and multitasking gestures on the iPad help

It looks like it's happening because of a system update I may have done? I'm not sure what to make of this or how to fix it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Mike
Virtual all of these are hardware related so I would start there.  This type of crash is called a BCC124 and 99 times out of 100 it is hardware related.
Stop 0x124 is a hardware error
If you are overclocking try resetting your processor to standard settings and see
    if that helps.
If you continue to get BSODs here are some more things you may want to consider.
This is usually heat related, defective hardware, memory or even processor though
it is"possible" that it is driver related (rare).
Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
    Synopsis:
A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.
Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.
     Generic "Stop 0x124" Troubleshooting Strategy:
    1) Ensure that none of the hardware components are overclocked. Hardware that is driven beyond its design specifications - by overclocking - can malfunction in unpredictable
    ways.
    2) Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled.
If there is any doubt, open up the side of the PC case (be mindful of any relevant warranty conditions!) and point a mains fan squarely at the motherboard. That will rule out most (lack of) cooling issues.
    3) Update all hardware-related drivers: video, sound, RAID (if any), NIC... anything that interacts with a piece of hardware.
It is good practice to run the latest drivers anyway.
    4) Update the motherboard BIOS according to the manufacturer's instructions and clear the CMOS.
Their website should provide detailed instructions as to the brand and model-specific procedure.
    5) Rarely, bugs in the OS may cause "false positive" 0x124 events where the hardware wasn't complaining but Windows thought otherwise (because of the bug).
At the time of writing, Windows 7 is not known to suffer from any such defects, but it is nevertheless important to always keep Windows itself updated.
    6) Attempt to (stress) test those hardware components which can be put through their paces artificially.
The most obvious examples are the RAM and HDD(s).
For the RAM, use the 3rd-party memtest86 utility to run many hours worth of testing. (6-8 passes to stress the ram out)
For hard drives, check whether CHKDSK /R finds any problems on the drive(s), notably "bad sectors".
Unreliable RAM, in particular, is deadly as far as software is concerned, and anything other than a 100% clear memory test result is cause for concern. Unfortunately, even a 100% clear result from the diagnostics utilities does not guarantee that the RAM is
free from defects - only that none were encountered during the test passes.
    7) As the last of the non-invasive troubleshooting steps, perform a "vanilla" reinstallation of Windows: just the OS itself without any additional applications, games,
utilities, updates, or new drivers - NOTHING AT ALL that is not sourced from the Windows 7 disc.
Should that fail to mitigate the 0x124 problem, jump to the next steps.
If you run the "vanilla" installation long enough to convince yourself that not a single 0x124 crash has occurred, start installing updates and applications slowly, always pausing between successive additions long enough to get a feel for whether the machine
is still free from 0x124 crashes.
Should the crashing resume, obviously the very last software addition(s) may be somehow linked to the root cause.
If stop 0x124 errors persist despite the steps above, and the hardware is under warranty, consider returning it and requesting a replacement which does not suffer periodic MCE events.
Be aware that attempting the subsequent hardware troubleshooting steps may, in some cases, void your warranty:
    8) Clean and carefully remove any dust from the inside of the machine.
Reseat all connectors and memory modules.
Use a can of compressed air to clean out the RAM DIMM sockets as much as possible.
    9) If all else fails, start removing items of hardware one-by-one in the hope that the culprit is something non-essential which can be removed.
Obviously, this type of testing is a lot easier if you've got access to equivalent components in order to perform swaps.
Should you find yourself in the situation of having performed all of the steps
above without a resolution of the symptom, unfortunately the most likely reason is because the error message is literally correct - something is fundamentally wrong with the machine's hardware.

  • Crashes, sound loss, and other problems

    Hello,
I have been having some serious problems over the past several months. In the past it was fairly manageable, but recently things have been getting worse.
I have a 12-inch PowerBook G4, I bought it at the McGill bookstore in October 2004. The first problem was the apparently random crashes that Mac OS X (v.10.4.8) would experience from time to time. It was fairly infrequent at first so it didn't bother me too much (and I thought it was just some sort of glitch). But it persisted and came to be expected.
What would happen is that my screen would darken and center box would appear telling me, "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button." (it would display this message in English, French, German, and Japanese for my convenience). After I restart the computer I get the message, "The computer was restarted after Mac OS X quit unexpectedly". At first it seemed to be linked to time; after a while it would just crash, sometimes after an hour or so, sometimes after as little as five minutes. (I fear as I write this that I will have to start over). More recently I've come to associate the crashes with movement of the computer; perhaps the battery (which is pretty much dead after so much use) is affecting the performance, I don't know.
The next problem, which coincided with the crashes, was my clock being reset. I assumed this was directly associated with the spontaneous shutdown of the computer, yet though the crashes continued, the clock was not always reset (just about a third of the time). This was a pretty frustrating inconvenience given the frequency of the crashes at the beginning.
The major problem that prompted me to take action was the lose of sound. One day, about a month ago now, my sound suddenly stopped working. At first I thought it was a hardware problem, but then I noticed the sound was still working with some things and just not others. For example, the sound increase/decrease indicator (the 'pop' sound when turning up or down the sound) stopped working, yet the startup sound still worked. I've found that Realplayer, MPlayer X 2, and Windows Media Player work fine but iTunes, VLC, and Quicktime don't. Most of the applications simply don't make sound but when I try to video in VLC I get the following error: "auhal: we cannot find our HAL component" or "auhal: audio-device var does not exist. device probe failed."
Other minor errors I have come across include inability to detect the Airport card (remedied upon restarting the computer) and occasional seizing up of the keyboard (the letter keys, exclusively, were unresponsive for sometime before working again suddenly without need of restart).
I've run diagnostic tools such as Disk Utility and the 'fsck' command in single-user mode, but nothing has been detected. It consistently comes up saying that everything is alright.
I have backed-up all important files and programs (with the exception of my Firefox bookmarks, do you know how I can save those?) and am prepared to do whatever it takes to bring my computer back to working order. I need my computer for schoolwork and assignments so if I can fix it myself in anyway... I would prefer to avoid lengthly repairs if possible.
Please let me know what my options are, and/or possible things I can do to repair these problems. This whole affair is, unsurprisingly, driving me crazy.
One last thing, upon launching Microsoft Word, I get the following pop-up:
    Application Launch Failure
The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "3<Microsoft Word><Microsoft Word><MicrosoftLSLibZ>"
I do not know whether this is linked to my other problems or not. This too, is something that has recently come up and is significantly affecting my work (I have had to switch to writing my essays on TextEdit).
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Eric Oosenbrug

try shutting down, remove the battery, carefully pull out AirPort card and reinstall it.
maybe run hardware test included with CD kit

  • OS4 APPS CRASH, Store,Net and other problems

I cant believe how severe this problem is. I really wish i didn't upgrade. I have over 300 games and apps and the ability to make folders is great. Seeing a how i have a 2GT folders were the only useful update i got. Now all of my apps (favs. like angry birds and all C.D.E. games) are crashing with a complete shut down. When is this going to be fixed?!? i know some will say that the problem is the game companies not making the game OS4 compatible, and while this may be true in some cases its not with other because i have had almost 10 games that have had updates that still wont work. Then the conspiracy theory that apple did this to make us buy newer products is there but this seem very real but unlikely at the same time because i've never really had problems like this before with apple. It really ***** that i went from waking up excited to check what new games are out to now getting these games praying they work.i have spent tons of money, put in time and fell in love with this thing and now its feels like its against me. When is this going to be fixed. You know they have the power to do so.

I also wanted to add that this seems like its getting progressively worse, apps that were working at first with the os4 update are now crashing. I have been reading about wifi problems and i haven't been experiencing any problems with that until a couple days ago. This really is so sad. You people know what im talking about. The ipod becomes part of your body and i dont care how pathetic i sound, its hard living without it or having a sick one.My Pod is 32G and some people tell me my problem is that i have too many game but i doubt that because why would they let you store so many? I deleted most of my movies to free space and have about 7 gigs available. So mad because i plan on buying a iphone when my cells contract is up and i wanted my pod to hold me over. APPLE, EVEN THE APP STORE IS BROKEN WITH THE NEW UPDATE!!! How are we suppose to give you money?

  • Several Subtle Improvements to Text Handling and Other Miscellany

Don't get me wrong: Illustrator CS4 is great. I love it. And ignore, for the moment, the recent announcement that CS5 is already being rolled out in a few days. Maybe some of these things will be included in CS5. But if not, I'd make the following feature requests. I'd also love to hear if anyone has been thinking the same things.
Check this link to see a graphical overview of all the items, too:
    http://www.meesez.com/illyimprove.pdf
    Improvements to Text Handling
Unify text antialiasing program-wide. Right now, the pixel preview seems to rasterize text according to the "Type Optimized" algorithm, but Save for Web & Devices uses the "Art Optimized" algorithm. This creates a discrepancy between on-screen preview and web output, especially with very thin fonts. Ideally, there would be per-object antialiasing control, as in Photoshop, which would globally apply to on-screen display, pixel preview display, Save for Web & Devices, Export, and Rasterize.
    a. Make an option to view and manipulate the size and position of point type areas in terms of the actual size of the glyphs present, ignoring any blank space within or between the glyphs' bounding boxes — that is, the size that would be reported if the type was converted to outlines. This is opposed to the current system, which calculates the size and position of point type areas based on the entire bounding box size of each character, even when glyphs don't extend to the all edges of the bbox (which most don't). This would make it easier to fit headlines to exact sizes without having to outline the text.
    b. Allow smart guides and snapping to detect anchors and paths on live glyphs.
Allow users to specify that type should not be scaled when resizing area type boxes. With this option turned off, text boxes could be resized with the transform panel or the scale tool without their contents being stretched or squashed. (This is what currently already happens when a text area is resized using the mouse.)
Create an option to apply leading to entire paragraphs. I love being able to enter a new paragraph leading value in InDesign without having to have any characters selected.
Add vertical alignment options to area text.
Add support for balancing ragged lines within a paragraph, as in InDesign.
Add an option to automatically outline all text when saving a file as PDF. This option would be mutually exclusive with the "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" checkbox.
Bug fix: font selection by font name keyboard entry. Typing a font name into the font selector in both the control bar and the character palette doesn't always succeed in changing the font of the selected type (tested in Windows XP). This happens sporadically; sometimes the selector will display the new font name but the selected type will remain in the old font. Clicking on the font selector in this situation brings the user to top of the menu, making it necessary to select the desired font by scrolling through the entire list (which does work).
    Other Improvements
Add a preview mode (similar to InDesign's "W" key) which hides everything outside of the current artboard. This would be useful for previewing trims, especially now that bleeds are supported.
Create an option to toggle the display of all document raster effects (while leaving them intact). This would be quite convenient when working with large files having high-resolution raster effects on several layers. In such a situation, small changes to artwork can take a long time to render.
Add support for angle (conical) gradients. I'm guessing that this feature has not yet been implemented either because angle gradients don't interact well with other types of gradients, or perhaps because they can't be transformed into gradient mesh objects due to the "singularity" at the vertex. But couldn't this problem be resolved by being discreet about what's allowed in terms of file saving and conversions to gradient mesh? I would think the folks at Adobe could figure this one out, if it is indeed a mathematical problem.
Bug fix: antialiasing on shapes that run exactly along pixel boundaries. See diagram for more details.

Dirty_Deeds, I want to make sure your phone is functioning correctly. I would like to clarify some information you have provided. When you are attempting to reply to anything, are you able to use the keypad to type your reply? Is it just pressing send that presents a problem?

  • RoboHelp 10 .apj file error issues & crashing on save and generate

    Hello All!
I am working with a large FM book (100+ FM files) that we have linked to a RoboHelp 10 project.
Everytime I update my RH project I am getting this error:
I have tried copying the folder, deleting the .apj file, and reopening. RHopens just fine.
The other major issue I am having is when I save and generate the project RoboHelp freezes up and won't save & generate the layout.
I have all of the FM files open and updated. Everything that can be updated in RH before save and genereate is updated. Any ideas??
    Thanks!!

I have moved this post to FrameMaker Integration as I think it will do better there.
