Slow to open multiple PDF files

Hi
We've recognized an issue with the Adobe Reader 10. If a user opens the first PDF file it opens very fast. But if the user opens a 2nd or 3rd PDF documents, it takes a few seconds (up to 15seconds) until the PDF file is open.
This was reported from many users in our company. But this does not happen all the time.
The issue also happens if the files are stored local on the C drive.
The protected mode is disabled.
The antivirus program is also disabled (only for testing).
We didn't had this issue with Adobe Reader 9.
Does someone else have this problem? Or does someone have a solution for that?
I installed the latest Adobe Reader version. I also found another old thread in this forum were other people reported this issue but no solution was posted to this thread.
Hope someone has a good idea about this.
Best regards,
Kringel

Select 10 files and open the files, then select and open the next 10 files.

  • Open Multiple PDF files from Production order/Routing

    Hi Everyone
    We are in ECC 6.0 environment. We have a scenario where multiple documents were attached to single operation and also at multiple operations. But when I was trying to open these PDF documents, only the last file was getting opened and closing the previous file. How can I open multiple PDF files at one time from Production order or Routing?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Regards
    Prasad

    Hi Prasad,
    from DMS standard I regret but such a functionality is not available. In the standard originals can be opened only one after another.
    I think for realising this functionality an individual modificatoin is necessary.

  • Unable to open multiple PDF files in Acrobat 9 Pro - Vista

    I have a staff member that is unable to open more than one PDF at a time.  If a PDF is currently open and another one is selected the program will crash and close.  It gives a message stating the program has crashed and must be closed and also gives an option to check online for a solution.  Has anyone else seen this issue or know a fix for it?  Thanks in advance.

    No. Starting with Acrobat 9 it is no longer possible to open multiple PDF files in the same window.

  • Open multiple pdf files using Acrobat Reader?

    Can we open and switch between multiple pdf files using Acrobat Reader?

    Of course, but if it's Reader X or later each file will appear in its own window. This can't be changed.

  • Bug in Preview in Snow Leopard when opening multiple pdf files at once

    I receive 50-200 pdf files by e-mail each day. I have historically saved the pdf attachments to a folder, then selected all the pdf files in the folder (CMD A), then opened all the selected files in Preview (CMD O). After updating to Snow Leopard, downloading 34 pdf files to a folder, selecting them all, then attempting to open them all in Preview (using both CMD O, then File/Open, then File/Open With), the effort first opens 6 of the 34 files. Closing all then trying again results in 7 files being opened, closing all then trying again results in 8 files being opened, etc etc. Earlier today I had the same results, but eventually got a message asking if I wanted to open all in separate windows (I did) or a single window, and it opened all the files at once as I wanted. After shutting down, moving home, and receiving additional pdf files, however, back to the same open 5, then open 6, etc. problem. Anyone else having this problem or a suggestion on how to resolve?
    Thanks for suggestions,
    B

    More info - apparently the bug isn't related to Preview, but to the attempt to open all pdf files in the folder with ANY program. After having Preview open 25 of the 34 files I was attempting to open, I then tried opening all 34 with Adobe Reader. It opened 26 (after Preview had opened 25). Tried again with Preview - it opened 27, then 28 with Adobe Reader. It doesn't necessarily open the FIRST 25 (or 26, etc) either, so it's difficult to work with the open ones, then go back and work with the remaining ones later.

  • Opening multiple pdf files

    By clicking a submit button i'm calling a javascript in a jsp which uses "window.open" function and opens a jsp. In this jsp i call a function for opening a pdf file using
    "document.location.href". in this i have specified the URL to open this pdf.
    Now i want that if after this pdf is opened, i again chose some option and click the submit button and a second pdf to opened. But right now if i click the submit button the second time, the second pdf replaces the older one in the same wondow. I want that the second pdf to be opened in separate window.
    Please help to get me some idea

  • Slow to open second PDF file with Reader X

    Hi, I am having troubles since I downloaded Adobe Reader 10.0.1. The problem is when I have a PDF file already open, it takes forever to open another PDF file. Also, when I clic on an hyperlink to a PDF file in an excel sheet, it takes forever also.
    Please help me as this is anoying!

    Windows XP SP3 here, the very same version of Reader X (10.1.0.534) fresh install and protected mode DISABLED but the problem still exists.
    Steps to reproduce the issue:
    1. open a folder with a number of PDF files inside
    2. double click on one of them: it opens in one second
    3. double click on another one: it opens after 10/15 seconds
    I think the problem is a sort of pre-rendering that Reader does on the selected PDF when you open them from File Explorer.
    This is what's happening:
    1. open task manager, Process pane.
    2. open the folder with a number of PDF files inside
    3. double click on one of them: it opens in one second and an AcroRd32.exe process starts. Leave the document open.
    4. SELECT (not double click) another file: the task manager shows TWO additional AcroRd32.exe starting
    5. when they close, double click the selected file and it opens instantly
    6. SELECT another file: again, two additional AcroRd32.exe processes start. If you immediately double click the same file, it takes 10-15 seconds to open and this happens exactly when the two additional AcroRd32.exe processes stop.
    7. double click another file: again, two additional processes start, the file opens exactly when the two processes close.
    If you have the same files on your desktop, not in a folder, the files open instantly also ten together at the same time.
    Any solution?

  • Why am I unable to open multiple PDF files at once?

    I'm trying to open and view 28 PDF files, but am unable to do so.  I have recently upgraded my computer and am now using Windows 7 with 12 GB of RAM.  On my older system I was able to open this many PDF files at once, but now I am not able to do so.  I can selects and open about 10 PDF files, but when I choose more than that and right-click on the files I do not get an option to open the files.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Select 10 files and open the files, then select and open the next 10 files.

  • Open multiple PDF's in Acrobat X Pro?

    I have about 20 password protected PDF's that I would like to open in one instance of Acrobat X, instead of 20 different windows.  Is there a way to do this.
    I've tried merging them, but they're secured with the FileOpen plugin, and even though I have my the username and password, it won't allow a merge.  Hoping to find a solution.  Thanks.

    No. Starting with Acrobat 9 it is no longer possible to open multiple PDF files in the same window.

  • Opening a pdf file stream using java

    I am developing a web app using jsp that needs to dynamically create xml files, then using fop I convert those files into pdf's.
    I would need to be able to open multiple pdf files in a row...
    Here's what I have so far....this will only open the 1st file...
    I don't need to open the pdf files in a web browser, it can be done in acrobat reader if needs be...
    do
    if ( ( ( startRec * cache) + 1 ) <= ( min( ( startRec + 1 ) * cache, recCount ) ) )
    System.out.println( ( startRec * cache ) + 1 + "-" + min( ( startRec + 1 ) * cache, recCount ) );
    String xmlString =      xmlStart;
    for ( int n=( startRec * cache ); n<min( ( startRec + 1 ) * cache, recCount ); n++ )
    ViewFileDetailsBean viewBean = (ViewFileDetailsBean)listOfViewFileDetailsBean.get(n);
    xmlString = xmlString + viewBean.getxMLString();
    xmlString = xmlString + "/t</data>\n"; // THIS FINISHES THE XML
    pdfBean.makePDF( xmlString );
    response.setContentLength( pdfBean.getOutput().length );
    response.setContentType( "application/pdf" );
    response.getOutputStream().write( pdfBean.getOutput() );
    response.getOutputStream().flush();
    startRec++;
    }while ( startRec <= ( recCount / cache ) );
    Thanks,
    GoldenEye4ever

    I forgot to say,
    We will not have write access to the server, also, the higher-ups would like to view pdf files.. rather than extracting a zip file containing pdf files...lol
    Basically, the xml file that I was initally creating was getting far too large for java to handle, 190,000 records +,
    so i am breaking them down to perhaps 10,000 record long xml files, to be converted to pdf
    Thanks for your fast reply

    You can have infinite tabs opening if you have selected Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an ''Open with'' download window.
    Firefox should not be selected as the application to handle a file and you have to remove the action that is associated with that file type.

    Subject: WHEN I TRY TO OPEN A PDF FILE, THE READER OPENS  HUNDREDS OF MULTIPLE BLANK PAGES .
    Something is definitely wrong with your install of Reader.
    A PDF consists of only the number of pages it was created with.  Reader can and will only open those pages... IF it's installed and working properly.
    Opening multiple blank pages from a document which contains none is a clear sign that the software isn't functioning. It's like putting a movie into a DVD player, and your TV starts a picture slide show of your last Summer's vacation. Not possible unless there's something seriously wrong.
    Uninstall Reader 9.
    Use either Adobe's clean uninstaller or Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2. exe) to remove all Reader installer files from your system.
    Reinstall Reader 9 from a new download (do not use the old one if you still have it on your system)

  • Acrobat 9.5.5 multiple .pdf files open without toolbars displaying

    Recently, I noticed that, when I open one .pdf file, all toolbars I have selected as customized are displayed.  But, upon opening additional ,pdf files, those files do not display my toolbars at the top - only the file menu shows up.  If I try to close the limited toolbar files, I get the error "Adobe Acrobat 9.5 has stopped working," and the programs aborts.  I've searched the web to no avail for a solution.  My work requires I have multiple Adobe files open, but these additional files have extremely limited functionality without the toolbars.
    Event Viewer indicates the following errors:
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.dll
    I'm running Win 7 Pro 64-bit, on Intel i7, with 14 GB RAM, 224GB SSD/68 GB free.  My system should more than amply support the application.
    My thought is a recent Adobe update or Windows update caused this anomaly.  Has anyone else experienced this issue?  Please advise - I'm desperate for a resolution.  Thanks.

    Update - when you select View -Toolbars on the additional files, all the customized toolbars are check-marked, so they should be displaying.  But, they don't.

    Bill@VT,
    Thank you for your reply.  Your recommendation is not the issue for sure.  I had tested by opening numerous files on my system, which I know are not secure.  The first file opened with all toolbar functionality, and the rest of the files opened in limited view.  These are files I've created and opened numerous times in the past with no issues, until recently.
    I've since installed Adobe Pro XI Trial, as well as a couple other .pdf maker apps.  I had already remove Adobe Pro 9.5.5, so I can't reinstall while I have XI on my system - the installation aborts.  My assessment, after spending hours researching it, is that there's a conflict in my OS and 9.5.5.  At this point, I have to cut my losses (time & billable hours) and move onto a more stable, dependable application.  It's probably not going to be an Adobe product, sad to say.  Too many issues, too little accessible and timely support.
    I am grateful for your input in my scenario. Have a splendid day/evening!

    Does Firefox switch to full screen if you press F11 ?
    You can also try the F10 key to see if that brings up the menu bar.
