[SOLVED] Cannot install packages during a fresh installation

Hi all,
I'm pretty sure I'm missing something from the wiki/forums, but I'm at a loss here...
I am going through a fresh installation of Arch. I am using AIF and stopped at step 4 "Prepare hard drive(s)". I intend to install on btrfs, so I went to a different console via ALT-F2, logged in as root and tried installing gptfdisk via "pacman -S gptfdisk". I got  a few errors such as:
- error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/core.db: Failed to open '/var lib/pacman/sync/core.db'
(the rest of the errors pertain to the other available repositories)
I made sure to choose core and extras in AIF's step 1: "Select source".
What completely obvious thing am I missing here...?
Thanks.

Did you sync the repositories?
pacman -Syy gptfdisk
You, sir, are a genius and I love you.
Now to figure out how I missed that xD
Thanks!

I Have tried repairing visual studio But no use.
I have unistalled all the things and installed again but no use . Please anybody resolve this issue..

    Hello amanojkumar24,
I see a related error thread from here:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsapps/en-US/b6a66a5a-e3b4-4f1a-848e-c1a6b7668b31/desgin-mode-breaks-down-during-windows-store-application-windows-8?forum=toolsforwinapps
As you've already repaired Visual Studio but Visual Studio still reports the error for you, we need to look into the error info:
This package requires minimum version 0.0.0.0 of framework Microsoft.VCLibs.120.00.Debug published by any publisher to install.
So here we need this package "Microsoft.VCLibs.120.00.Debug"
    Please do the following:
    1. Check your installation that you have enabled VC++ components. If you haven't or if you are not sure of it, please check this blog:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vcblog/archive/2014/08/01/c-runtime-for-sideloaded-windows-8-1-apps.aspx
Then you can download and install the package from
    here.
    2. You can also make sure you've registered and already have the license:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20010421/vs-2013-xaml-editor-and-microsoft-vclibs-120-00-debug
Someone fixed it by using this solution.

Thank God, everything is fixed now:
First, I deleted all these files, then i follows the following procedure
    1. For libgexiv2 file i upgraded 'xorg-server, xorg-xinit, xorg-utils, xorg-server-utils' from pacman
    # pacman -S xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-utils xorg-server-utils
    2. For libraw file i upgraded 'libraw' from pacman
    # pacman -S libraw
There will be some conflicting files
After deleting some conflicting files it solves the problem and restore all the 'lib' file.

  • [solved] cannot install pacstrap /mnt base to UEFI without internet

    Hello everybody.
Today I decided to install ArchLinux because of some problems on my Linux Mint System.
On my laptop Lenovo yoga 13  while using Mint I installed Wi-Fi drivers after installation. It is not working out of the box.
There is no Ethernet port on this laptop.
In Begginer's Guide I have read that internet may be set up later. Ok, I skipped it and do next steps as in manual.
When I go to step of installing base system the following happens
    # pacstrap /mnt base base-devel
Error strings are running: could not get file ... from ... Could not resolve host ...
    And at the end:
    Cannot synchronize any database
Cannot start request (error in boot library)
Error ==> Failed to install pakages to new root
I stopped here. Why it tries to connect to internet?
P.S. I am installing from fresh iso from 2014.05.01 via LiveUSB.
Please tell me what should I do?

What packages does it mean: dependent pkgs or pkgs that will be downloaded?
Again, I cannot download anything, so I need to install theese packages the same way as I try to install this one for wifi?
And for installing theese pkgs, perhaps, I will need to install packages, dependent on theese? Oh... Recursion.
    What should I do?

  • Cannot Install Packages

I'm experiencing a strange problem when trying to install packages. I've seen this problem with Google Voice and Video and the new XCode 4.2 installer. After I enter my password when prompted, the installer doesn't advance to the next screen. For instance, I click install and correctly enter my password in the Google Voice and Video installer, but the installer remains on the "Installation Type" screen. I don't see any errors or any sort of indication of failure, I'm just returned to the previous screen.
This is causing me a big headache and I can't find a workaround. Searching for the issue hasn't gotten me any results.

I couldn't find a solution to this. I wound up creating a Lion installation disc and did a completely fresh installation. If that's not an option for you, I've found that installing packages is possible through the command line under sudo.
sudo installer -pkg ~/path/to/installer.pkg -target /
That's the best I could do. I'm pretty sure the problem came from an upgrade gone awry. I've installed OSX on a few other machines and helped friends upgrade to Lion and haven't seen the same issue since.
    Cheers,
    Dan

  • Error in installing packages during jumpstart

The machine I am installing via jumpstart is on a terminal server and I am connected to ttya. I am seeing these errors in the log:
    ## Executing postinstall script.
    pkgadd: ERROR: freopen(/dev/tty, "a", stdout) failed, errno=6
pkgadd: ERROR: postinstall script did not complete successfully
and I am told the installation failed with an error code of 1 which, according to the pkgadd man page it a fatal error.
When I do a pkginfo -l on the package it appears that the package is there. Is this something to worry about?
If it means anything, this is the java 1.4.2_02 packages.
    Kent

You might want to redirect stdout & stderr to /dev/null while installing packages via run-scripts (I'm assuming that 's the case).
So, when you're doing the pkgadd, do it like this:
    echo y|pkgadd -a ${MD_PRODUCT}/admin -d `pwd` SUNWmdr > /dev/null 2>&1
Here I'm trying to install a disksuite pkg as a post-install and it givees me the same error messages that you get if I don't redirect 2>&1 to /dev/null

I can only find a Flash CS3 Installer. When I try to use that, I get an error message that reads:

    - The installer database is invalid: please re-install the product from the original media.
Please see the Setup log file for details.
    Hi Ted,
It seems that you might have upgraded your OS from Tiger(10.4)/Leopard(10.5) to Snow Leopard(10.6) and in the process the Adobe installer database file got corrupted somehow. I would need you to uninstall Flash CS3, run the CS3 and CS4 clean up script to remove any remaining entries of Fl CS3 or PSE 8 then delete the below two files by moving them into trash and emptying the trash and then install Flash CS3 again followed by PSE8. Now, you shall be able to run both the products fine. All the othr CS3 apps mentioned in your above thread will get installed along with Fl CS3.
Here is the location where you will be able to locate the .db files:
    <Macintosh HD>\Library\Application Support\Adobe\backup\
    <Macintosh HD>\Library\Application Support\Adobe\caps\
Here are the reference links for CS3 and CS4 clean up scripts:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406241.html
Let me know in case you have any queries before executing the above mentioned steps.

  • [SOLVED] Cannot find package "flashplugin" or "archey".

[EDIT - yaourt and archey now installed, thanks]
I am running Arch 2.6.34 with GNOME desktop. When I type the command sudo pacman -S flashplugin or sudo pacman -S archey it tells me that it cannot find the package.
I had this problem previously when I was trying arch in a VM, and I couldn't figure out what I had missed. I have everything else properly installed and working fine, it's just these two packages I've come across that I cannot locate. I'm guessing there's probably more packages that I just haven't run into yet that wouldn't work either.

That's because archey is in the AUR. You can use yaourt to install packages from the aur similar to how you're trying, read the wikis and check it out.

When do they suspect they'll fix the flashplugin bug/vulnerability? And what is recommended to do until then as far as flash playback goes?

  • [Solved] cannot open package file

    Hi All,
I tried to install deluge with yaourt but I got this message "cannot open package file". I then built it from AUR and got this:
    [root@cwa a]# pacman -U deluge-svn-5088-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
    loading package data...
error: 'deluge-svn-5088-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz': cannot open package file
Does anyone have a clue for me. I have built other programs with no problem using yaourt.
    Thanks,
    Arthur

What is the version number in AUR? I guess yaourt is not capable for svn-versions and makepkg's "automagically change version numbers of svn-packages"-feature. It tries to open another file. Please try to build without using yaourt.

Are you using the Beginners' Guide? Have you followed these steps?
    Beginners Guide wrote:
    Note:
If pacman fails to verify your packages, stop the process with Ctrl+C and check the system time with cal. If the system date is invalid (e.g. it shows the year 2010), signing keys will be considered expired (or invalid), signature checks on packages will fail and installation will be interrupted. Make sure to correct the system time, using the command ntpd -qg, and retry running the pacstrap command. Refer to Time page for more information on correcting system time.
If pacman complains that error: failed to commit transaction (invalid or corrupted package), run the following command:
    pacman-key --init && pacman-key --populate archlinux

I have used yaourt to successfully install packages in the past, such as ttf-ms-fonts and owncloud-client.
