Special character input

Alright, so the characters in question aren't so special - I just need vowels with acute accents ("ú", for instance), and I can't seem to place them.
I've seen similar questions answered many times before. However, the solution provided there, and in the official help page - "hold down the key and scroll to the sides until the desired character appears" - isn't working in my phone for some reason.
My input language is Spanish (just as it should be). The odd thing is that the letters A and E don't suffer from this issue; I can place whichever accent I need. Odder still, I get the full range of special characters in certain applications, such as in the calendar. For SMS, however, all I can use are either the unmodified letter, caps, or use a grave accent ("ù", and there's a greater difference between the two than it appears).
I also can't seem to find the "¿" punctuation mark; it isn't in the symbol list under the "sym" key, and I don't know where else to look for it.
Finally, there is something else I'd like to ask about: Is it possible to reconfigure the keypad so that holding down a letter will first print something other than it's capitalized form? If that was possible, it'd be much easier for me to quickly type (you guessed it) accented letters.
Anyways, thanks for bearing with me if you made it this far. Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.

On the U.S., U.S. Extended, and U.S. International PC keyboards, the option key turns the / character into ÷.
In the System Preferences > Keyboard Preferences > Keyboard Tab > Modifier Keys... you can actually set the option key modifier to No Action. It does what it says and option + / is exactly what you get.

  • Need to prevent special character in generated XML file

    Hello,
    I am using E-business Suite 12.1.3 and XML version 5.6.3.
    My XML file is ending up with a special character (a Latin capital letter U with circumflex) at the end, after the final closing tag.
    Due to this the concurrent program that needs to output the XML is ending with warning.
    My XML file is produced using a PL/SQL procedure, as follows (I've simplified it):
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.OUTPUT,'<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>');
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.OUTPUT,'<DOCS>');
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.OUTPUT,'<LETTER>');
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.OUTPUT,'<EMP_NAME>Michaela Hart</EMP_NAME>');
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.OUTPUT,'</LETTER>');
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.OUTPUT,'</DOCS>');
    But when I run the concurrent request that creates the output then try to view the output in Internet Explorer I get the following error:
    Invalid at the top level of the document. Error processing resource 'http://servername.domain...
    </DOCS>
    If I view the source of the page in Internet Explorer it shows a square after </DOCS> indicating the special character that has been added.
    I checked this by looking at the output file in unix (cat -v o7766582.req) and it showed up the Latin U character.
    I realise it could be to do with the character set I am using. I checked what we had on the server:
    > echo $NLS_LANG
    American_America.UTF8
    I would have thought that corresponded with the XML declaration character set but I'm not sure.
    Does anyone have any other ideas about why I have this special character, and how it could be removed?
    Thanks in advance,
    Hazel

    Hi AlexAnd,
    thanks very much for your reply.
    I'm now unable to recreate the problem since dbms_xmlgen worked. If I switch back to my previous method it works fine!
    I'm not sure your suggestion would help, as there were no special characters in the data, the special character was added after the last tag I output. I hard coded the data (as in my example) for testing purposes so there was no SQL in use and the special character was still added at the end of the XML output. But I will definitely give it a try if I get the problem again.
    I had the idea that maybe I should have been using FND_FILE.PUT rather than FND_FILE.PUT_LINE but now the error is gone I can't tell if that would have solved the problem either.
    I appreciate your input.
    Regards
    Hazel

  • How to deal with special character in source file

    Hi experts,
                      i am doing a file to file scenario in which my source file contains many special characters when i am puting this file into moni its going with the special character .My source file is a fixed length file so in content conversion i have specified the file length but due to these special charcters these field lenght is also varing.So please guide me how to deal with these special characters in sender adapter
    regards,
    Saurabh

    you could try using a Java Mapping to change the encoding manually. For that, set the encoding of the OutputFormat of the XML you'll serialize. Try the following code piece for the mapping (inside a try/catch declaration):
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder documentBuilder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document input = documentBuilder.parse(in);
    OutputFormat format = new OutputFormat(XML, "ISO-8859-1", false);
    XMLSerializer serializer = new XMLSerializer(out, format);

  • Problem with special character in Unix file

    Hi All,
    Need a help here. We have unicoded our system recently.
    It's regarding a special character (umlaut) that comes through a 3rd party system to an Unix file. This gets displayed in AL11 file as # instead of ö.
    As our program picks the file from Unix, it also has the # but we want ö.
    We could have done some fixes in our code to fix if AL11 file at least had ö and we got # in our program.
    But it's the other way round. So, how can we get rid of this issue? Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Sanj.

    How Al11 is reading file ? Look for
    OPEN DATASET "yourfilename" IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT FOR INPUT
                                  IGNORING CONVERSION ERRORS.
    If the above code is there .. you might need to play with different 'OPEN DATASET " options .
    Also look for Note 1174468 - Non-7bit-ASCII characters used in ABAP Workbench
                       Note 1227961 - Names of text fields with non-7-bit ASCII characters

  • SharePoint key word query, how does the "Query Text" query special character in a query variable?

    I have a no code sandbox solution, in a content by search web part, I want to return pages from the library except the page I am visiting.
    I have 2 pages:
    Page A, the title is: Page title without special character
    Page B, the title is: Page title with special character "a b c d ..."
    And then I use Title<>{Page.Title} in the query text of the CSWP.
    While I visit Page A, the CSWP returns Page B, it works as expected.
    But while I visit Page B, the CSWP returns nothing, expected result should be Page A. I just consider, whether the special characters in the Title of Page B breaks the query text.
    I can not find similar topics in the forum, Does anyone have idea?
    Many thanks!

    Thank you for your feedback, Daniel.
    I have some updates, and found the root cause: if the field value contains special characters, the CSWP will not render the double quotation marks around the field value.
    View the page html source, and then find the text "QueryModification", you will see what happen:
    Query Text Input: Title<>{Page.Title}
    1. While the page title is "Test Page 1" (without special character), the rendered query text is
    Title<>\"Test Page 1\". It works as expected.
    2. While the page title is "Test-Page-1" (with special character "-", of cause we have more special characters on production), the rendered query text is
    Title<>Test-Page-1.  The double quotation marks are not rendered by the CSWP, so the query text are broken. It does not work as expected.
    If I make the query text as Title<>"{Page.Title}"
    1. While the page title is "Test Page 1", the rendered query text is
    Title<>\"\"Test Page 1\"\". It does NOT work since the
    quotes are duplicated (no sure why CSWP duplicates the quota mark),
    2. While the page title is "Test-Page-1", the rendered query text is
    Title<>\"Test-Page-1\".  Quotes are correct, but it does NOT work as expected still.
    The expected rendered query text (view from the html source) should be
    Title<>\"Test\\\-Page\\\-1\". (Here is test url: <a href="http://server/_api/search/query?querytext='Title<>"Test%5c%5c%5c-Page%5c%5c%5c-1"'&rowlimit=10">http://server/_api/search/query?querytext='Title<>"Test%5c%5c%5c-Page%5c%5c%5c-1"'&rowlimit=10)
    From the above information, I can say the CSWP not handle the special character correctly ("\" is not inserted before any special charactor).
    Is there any setting in CSWP can be used to resolve above problem?

  • JSP&Special Character

    Hi all,
    I have a problem related to special characters. I have a list with set of parameters. One of the parameter contains an special Character (apostrophe) and I'm using the <bean:write ..... /> to display it and for the validation of the parameter i'm passing the value as an String argument to a function. But due to the special character it was not invoking the javascript function....
    Any body has any answer for this...
    Any further inputs will be highly appreciated....

    there're a couple of possible turnarounds:
    -escape quotes
    - replace spec chars by there &#<char_code>; value
    - delimit your parameters in javascript with double quotes, so the simple quote won't be interpreted(only differs th problem, i agree)

  • HtmlText issue with special character

    Hi,
    I have input text : "hai <b> how are </b> you? Guess my <i>age</i>. clue age between > 25 and < 29.<b> got it</b>?"
    I put every thing in html text. I am able to see text only till "....> 25 and". Not able to see "< 29.<b> got it</b>". When i removed the special character "<" every thing is fine.
    When i try to search i had advice to replace the "<" with &lt. If I replace all "<" string with &lt then the <b>,<i> are not working with htmltext.
    Is there any soultion to find and replace only the "<" character? (by regular expression)? any other way? help me with demo code
    Thanks,
    Siva

    you have to replace only the less than sign with &lt;
    leave the less than signs that are part of a html tag be, and you should be fine.

  • Question on Special Character RSKC

    Hey guys,
    I wonder if you guys can help, our load keep getting special character (line break) which display as square. And just got to know that nothing is stopping out clients from putting in chinese, german or even russian characters into the text box of your source system.
    So I was wondering how do I allow to accept such wide range of special characters in RSKC or can i just switch RSKC off?
    pts will be rewarded

    Hi,
    I think you are facing an invalid character issue.
    This issue can be resolved by correcting the error records in PSA and updating it into the target. For that the first step should be to identify if all the records are there in PSA. You can find out this from checking the Details tab in RSMO, Job log , PSA > sorting records based on status,etc. Once its confirmed force the request to red and delete the particular request from the target cube. Then go to PSA and edit the incorrect records (correcting or blanking out the invalid entries for particular field InfoObject for the incorrect record) and save it. Once all the incorrect records are edited go to RSA1>PSA find the particular request and update to target manually (right click on PSA request > Start update immediately).
    I will add the step by step procedure to edit PSA data and update into target (request based).
    Steps
    1. Force the request to red in RSMO > Status tab.
    2. Delete the request from target.
    3. Come to RSMO > top right you can see PSA maintenace button > click and go to PSA .
    4.Edit the record
    5. Save PSA data.
    6. Got to RSA15 > Search by request name > Right click > update the request from PSA to target.
    This should solve your problem for now.
    As a long term you can apply some user exit in source system side or change your update rules to ensure that this field is getting blanked out before getting loaded in cube or add that particular char to permitted character list in BW (Run TCODE RSKC
    Input the <character> and execute the program) This will add <character> to the allowed characters list.
