Thin grid lines in PDF export

I am using the current version of Numbers (3.2).
The problem I am facing is that it seems to be impossible to export a spreadsheet with invisible grid lines to a PDF. Every time I do so, thin (I guess 1px) grid lines appear in the PDF where the should be none. I attached two images of a simple test sheet: The first picture is Numbers, the second is the resulting PDF export.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks!

1) select the table, then
2) use the cell formatter to set the border type to none
3) apply the border all inside edges

  • Problem with Thin White Line in PDF

I am encountering an appearance issue in a pdf created from a FrameMaker 11 file, using Adobe Acrobat X Pro and Adobe Acrobat Distiller X. The pdf displays a table that has black lines running vertically between every other column. In the column in between these lines, there appears to be a thin white line displaying. If I enlarge the pdf to 200%, the white line disappers. I right-clicked on the pdf and in the menu under "Page Display Preferences ...", I chose "Page Display" under the "Categories" column and then "Rendering". I then iuncheck the "Enhance thin lines" feature and this removes the thin line from the pdf. However, if I process another pdf for a different FrameMaker 11 file, the "Enhance thin lines" feature is unchecked and this affects the appearance of these other pdfs. Consequently, I need to reselect the "Enhance thin lines" feature in order to process these pdfs. However, if I reselect this, I'm noticing that when I open the pdf that has the thin line issue, the thin line is visible and the "Enhance thin lines" feature is selected. Is there a way to adjust this, so that the "Enhance thin lines" feature is removed for only this one pdf, but is selected for the other pdfs?

I think you are seeing Stitching Lines. If you can zoom in and the width does not change, they likely stitching lines. (Any actual content should scale proportionate)
Do a search for the term .
Stitching Lines are an on screen artifact which do not print (on high resolution ouput) caused by transparency flattening. You use of Distiller joboption probably invokes flattening.
Enhance Thin Lines is a local preference of Acrobat. I doubt it could be retained in a file.

  • DV export problems with grid line noise on export

On exporting in Premier Pro CC I am seeing faint grid lines across the whole picture that are not in the project timeline or the source clips - in other words looks fine in the project but not when exported out. Looks a bit like moire pattern but much more regular dotted box pattern about 5-10 pixel regular box size across whole image in grid - very odd. The noise pattern is not on the source or from camera chip I don't think - although that's what it looks like when sharpness is too hard on camera settings or chip structure bleeds through.
Have been using sharp filter and preset colour balances but as I say look OK in timeline but not after export. Tried using with and without high quality render  - no difference.
I am using DV25 as the export format and I am working on a high end Mac Pro with the latest version of CC.
Very frustrating issue as ruins quality of output - any thoughts gratefully received!

    Hi Jim,
I have viewed in Quicktime 10 and in Final Cut 7 (where I sometimes go back to to use the Neat Video plug-in for noise reduction)

  • Thin black line across Indesign CS4 doc exported to PDF

Hi ... am using Indesign CS4 on OS Windows XP and exporting docs to PDF (Acrobat 9 Professional) then printing on a HP Colour LaserJet CP2025.
I'm getting a thin black line across the bottom of the page when printing - it doesn't show up on the screen though.  The line sits 5mm above the bottom edge of the page and prints whether I have bleed set or not in Indesign.
Have tried toggling scaling, printer's marks settings, printer settings,Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional settings with no joy.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi all,
EUREKA!   Looks like it's finally fixed ...
One of my printer (HP Colour Laser Jet CP2025) has an advanced printer property, under printer features, called "Print Data Optimization" - this was set to "Auto" - I changed it to "Optimise for Text and Vector" and voila!  Thin black line has disappeared and I'm happily reprinting a bunch of documents ...
Thanks everyone for your advice and input - saved my sanity

  • How do I set a PDF Export Preset to force a minimum line weight on output?

How do I set a PDF Export Preset to force a minimum line weight on output?  I'm currently using one that came from a printer that works great - but I can't seem to find the option when creating one myself.  I have some placed Illustrator line art that is built with .25 line thickness and when I have it placed at 20% scale the lines are too thin to see in the PDF output.

There is absolutely no way to force minimum line widths within InDesign itself, certainly not as part of the PDF export process!! And even one writes a script to go through every object within an InDesign document and both validate and fix line widths less than some particular threshold, such a script would be useless against placed artwork, the contents of which are not available for manual or programmatic inspection within InDesign.
Note that one should be exceptionally careful in “fixing” hairlines, especially if you are placing vector artwork at very low magnification. It may actually be OK to let certain lines drop out. After a fixup on some content, you could end up with a messy mass of lines.

  • Access Reports to PDF cause weird grid lines

I have created reports in Access 2010, with no padding and grid lines to be hairline thickness. In Access, when viewing it under report view it looks perfect; however when I export to PDF I always get bold lines in random order and space between the rows.
I have tried to show a picture but it won't allow me.
I appreciate any and all help.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Do you have some special formatting or date in the report? For example, if you have conditional formatting rules in the report, it might appear some weird grid lines. See the thread :
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d61feb68-b662-4250-86de-5033d9f61b5e/is-there-a-way-to-use-alternate-back-color-and-conditional-formatting-at-the-same-time?forum=accessdev
And we may try some methods to check if they are helpful:
    Update the PDF Reader version.
    Install Office 2010 latest patches.
    Disable Access 2010 add-ins.
    Repair Access 2010.
If the issue still exists, please upload the image or a sample of the database through One Drive and share the link to me.

  • PDF - Thin White Lines Present

    Hi there,
When I "print" as a PDF file from my .ai file, thin white lines appear in the PDF where frame edges would normally be invisible.
Is there a way to create the PDF without this happening? And, why is this happening?
If this has something to do with not flattening my artwork before I create a PDF, then how do I do that?
    Thank you!
    Nicki

You are giving him a PDF file.
The problem is that he is literally ruining the content of the file by converting the PDF file to a raster image in Photoshop and then printing that, in other words it looks like your printer is using Photoshop as a “poor man's RIP!” The transparency effects in your PDF/X-4 file are being flattened at whatever resolution your printer sets the Photoshop image to be. In fact, transparency blending should be performed at the printer's RIP where such flattening artifacts that you are seeing are avoided.
You say you don't have your choice of printer?
Would you say you don't have your choice of physician if a doctor told you he was going to do an appendectomy by operating through your nose? Would you claim you don't have your choice of physician?
Professional incompetence is professional incompetence. If you have a “printer” who is really printing PDF files by opening them in Photoshop and printing directly from Photoshop to the device somehow, you are dealing with demonstrable incompetence!
The advice to find another printer is the best advice that we (including Adobe) can provide to you!

    5. Color Managment - none
    6. Advanced - none

  • PDF exports look terrible - white lines in text

I have been u sing indesign for years and years all of the sudden my pdf exports look terrible. The images are pixelated and the text has white lines
    in it.
I used these pdf previews for my clients and I certainly cant use what Im getting from INDD right now. I have no idea what happened to cuase this.
Wish I could show you but any ideas would be great.
The following text has no formatting on it yet there are pixelated white lines? help?
    Thanks in advance.

Wow - thank you for all the responses. Yes it still happened with different fonts, different sizes of font etc... So I looked at my export settings and noticed that it was set to High Quality Print - Modified. I Switched it back to High Quality Print and it appear to have cleaned it up quite a bit.
Thank you all for your speedy responses.

  • Why do my high resolution pdfs have thin white lines all over them?

When I make high res pdfs to send to the printer, they often have thin white lines in them that seem to be very visible when they are displayed in email. This panicks my clients. When the files are opened in Acrobat, they look OK most of the time, but sometimes they still have the white lines. What causes this and how can I make it STOP!!! It is driving me and my clients nuts.
I am using Acrobat 8 Professional on a iMac OSX 10.6.8. My files are pretty standard for print pubs. They usually contain type and images, and the images get the white lines where the text boxes are in the source file. It is maddening.

I forgot to say that I am creating source files in AI CC if that makes a difference, but I have had this problem in the past with previous versions of AI.

  • Preview displays pdfs with distorted colours and thin white line on the border

Preview Version 7.0 (826.4) on 10.9.5 displays pdfs with cmyk images in it in distorted colours and thin white line on the border of the page despite in the original .indd file the image runs into bleed. The display errors aren't present in acrobat reader 10.1.12 or acrobat pro 9.3.4. Any idea? Thanks

  • Dotted line is not exported correctly form Indesign to pdf

My dotted lines do not export as exactly round dots but with kind of "erroded" outlines. Has anyone encountered the same problem yet? How can I solve it? I used the "export for high res print preset". Thanx!

With "manually", Bob meant you cannot do it in InDesign (which must make it as good as 'manual', in his opinion ).
Using Acrobat Pro, all you have to do is open the PDF and start the Forms Wizard. It's the top item under the Forms menu. You'll be amazed at how well it does:
All I did was start the wizard and hit "OK"!
(hey! that image was supposed to end up inbetween! jive editor showing a tantrum, again.)

  • Thin White Lines - I can't get rid of them! Help!

I have a project in InDesign and whether I print directly from InDesign or export and print from PDF the thin white lines appear.
I have attempted all the solutions from this page Thin white, dark lines (stitching) | Export to PDF | InDesign CS2 and later,
    but haven't had any luck.
One layer are colored circles with affects and the top layer is text.
    Please help!
    Thanks in advance!

What export settings are you using? In my experience, letting Acrobat do the flattening is more reliable than if ID does it, but there's no guarantee that you won't see stitching on any particular printer unless you eliminate transparency from the design.

  • Type shifts upon PDF export

I have been wrestling with an issue for a while now and hope someone can shed some light on it.
When exported from InDesign as a PDF, type often shifts vertically, horizontally, or both. The problem appears to get worse from left to right and top to bottom. The more columns there are, the worse it gets across columns.
This problem was first caught on a commercial printer's proof when I noticed the type had shifted from my InDesign file to their proof. Since most commercial printers use PDF workflows (as this one did), any bug in PDF export represents a major issue. I have had projects print incorrectly due to this and I am in need of a fix that commercial printers can also implement because current projects are suffering from it and past projects have come out wrong.
I have replicated the issue on numerous different machines (and even had it tested by friends around the country) running everything from CS3 to CC, so it seems to be a systemic and possibly old InDesign / PDF export issue. The problem seems to happen with any font format — OT, TT, orPS. The PDF settings (x-1a, x-4, etc) don't seem to affect the issue.
Anyone can probably create a test file that will show the issue by making a vertical tabloid document with three columns, threading text to fill all three columns, and then setting the type to be 9pt / 12pt leading. Export a PDF and then import it and lay it directly on top of the page in InDesign, after having changed the type in InDesign to another color. In the samples below I changed the InDesign text to magenta, and the black is the PDF laid on top of it.
    Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
    Mike

So I think we have a working solution for PDF/X-1a or simply a PDF with version Acrobat 4 (PDF-v1.3).
The trick is to force transparency reduction to the text frame. One can do it without converting text to outline.
Just put a rectangle with a fill of 100% [Paper] set to transparency 0% on top of it. Downside is, that the exported PDF will get a white background.
Currently for PDF/X-4 I see no chance to work around the issue, if:
    1. Point size is 9 pt *
2.1. A baseline grid of 12 pt * is used and the paragraph styles are set to align to it
or 2.2. If the pointsize is extactly 9 pt * and the leading is exactly 12 pt *
    * I did not check all other creteria you mentioned in your 7th post: the ratio assumption between pointsize and leading, maybe the formula is something like that: Text Line Distance = n * (Pointsize + Pointsize / 3 ) => creep.
I packed all documents to a zip archive that you can download from my Dropbox account:
    Dropbox - 150127-1-TextShift-CS5.5.zip
    150127-1-TextShift-CS5.5.zip contains the following files:
       150127-1-TextShift-CS5.5.indd
       150127-1-TextShift-CS5.5.idml
       Layer-Text2Path-VISIBLE-PDF-X1a.pdf
       Layer-Text2Path-NOT-VISIBLE-PDF-X1a.pdf
"150127-1-TextShift-CS5.5.indd" contains several layers (from top to bottom):
    Text2Path  (currently invisible)
    Layer1
    PDF-Layer-Text2Path-VISIBLE-when-exported   (currently invisible)
    PDF-Layer-Text2Path-NOT-VISIBLE-when-exported  (currently invisible)
The mentioned white rectangle is placed on master spread A on layer "Text2Path".
Live text in a text frame is on "Layer1" (visible).
Layer "PDF-Layer-Text2Path-VISIBLE-when-exported" contains the placed PDF "Layer-Text2Path-VISIBLE-PDF-X1a.pdf", layer color is green, because here we can see no issues.
Layer "PDF-Layer-Text2Path-NOT-VISIBLE-when-exported" contains the placed PDF "Layer-Text2Path-NOT-VISIBLE-PDF-X1a.pdf"; layer color is red and showing the issues.
Both PDFs are exported with the same PDF Export Preset.
    Uwe
