Time wait - line lock - data concurrency - Solved with workaround

Hi.
A session inserts a line in a table and it does not make commit.
Another session makes another insert in the same table, with the same value for primary key and, because of the Lock, it is waiting for one commit or rollback of the first session, and only after this it's get a error message.
Exists some way to make with that the error message is shown immediately, without waiting for commit or rollback of the other session (first session)?
PS.:
But I need to continue with READ COMMITTED (statement) isolation level, because the SERIALIZABLE (transaction) would generate many locks.

Using a sequence for a PK will not solve your problem since I believe that you would still need a unique index (perhaps unique constraint) on the business value to prevent duplicates. Using a sequenced generated value for the PK would just move the problem to this second index unless the current PK is just a sequential number in which case why can't the value have gaps?
I know a system that uses a sequence generated value for its invoice numbers assigned at shipping time. There are gaps. When the auditors questioned it (after 8 years of being this way) it was pointed out that a sequential set of invoice numbers does not prove that an invoice that should have been generated was not skipped or that the invoices themselver are complete. The real audit trail is the report that show for every item on a sales order every item was shipped and invoiced. The cross reference report is the validation. The invoice numbers are meaningless. Sequential numbers are a false sense of security.
Possible alternates are to use a sequence as the PK (or a UK) and to update a second key column sequentially via batch (update table in sequence value order assigning sequential value via function which adds one to previous value on each use) Since only one process will perform the assignment there will be no gaps.

  • Optimistic locking/ data concurrency and consistency

    Hi,
    When creating a tabular form using wizard, apex creates its own processes for optimistic locking. But when creating a form on a table, it doesn't create the processes. I suppose I need to create them manually.
    Can anybody show me the steps?
    Thanks!

    Scott,
    Thanks once again.
    2 things:
    My understanding is that I can't change the error message, and that if I want to customize the error message, I need to create my own process for checksum. Is this true? If so, what is the easiest way of doing this?
    I realized it returns an error message and the changes the user made gets lost if he went out for lunch and somebody else made an update on that record. What can I do so the user doesn't lose the data?
    Thanks,

  • Locking data - 2nd recipient - with no Acrobat!

    Hey!
    Quick question - If i created a fillable form on Acrobat 9 Standard, and then sent this to somebody else to fill in (who does not have Acrobat - they only have the free Adobe Reader) and they entered some data on the same form, is there any way that this person could then lock certain fields before emailing the form to a third person? We do not want the last person to be able to edit the data that the 2nd person has entered.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Add a signature field to the form. In the properties of the signature field you can specify fields which will locked when signing the form.

    Hi,
    we enhanced Mvement type field(MSEG-BWART) General ledger (0FI_GL_4) extractor.
    this field populated with data all the ACC. Doc . number.
    Only 50000295 to 50000615  in this range we are not getting the movement types values.
    we didn't write any routines in transfer and update rules level.
    just we mapped to BWART field 0MOVETYPE info object.
    we restrict the particular doc no 50000313 infopackage level that time loading the the data into cube with movement types.
    but we remove the restriction infopackage level then loading the data that time we missing the movement types data of particular doc no 50000295 to 50000615.

    Ever since the systyem upgraded me to 3.6.6. I can not even run one eight hour day without firefoc either crashing or locking up which requires me use C/A/Deleate to close the program. I used to be able to run 8 to 12 windows at a time and NEVER lock up or crash with the older version. Is this problem being looked into and or being corrected. I use Firefox with Google and my system is XP Pro 32 bit. THIS IS REALLY making me MAD. My email is [email protected] and would appreciate a response to this ASAP. I have tried a couple of items from your help section and nothing works.

  • CUPS: Printer always waits for more data, and finally times out.

    I apologise if this should be categorised as" system administration" rather than "installation". The reason why I chose this category was that the error happened right after installing and setting up cups, so it should not have to do with fine-tuning or be the result of a particularly specific situation.
    I have had a novel kind of problem with printing since I first installed Arch Linux:
    Whenever I print - regardless of application -, my OKI 431 printer will always wait for more data after having completed the print job (as shown in its small display, where it keeps saying 'DATA' even after the last printed page has come out). After 25 to 30 seconds of such waiting, it will print out two pages, the first one empty, the second one saying:
    ERROR:
    timeout
    OFFENDING COMMAND:
    timeout
    STACK:
    The printer display then goes back to saying 'ONLINE'. If I print several documents WITHIN this 25 to 30 sec delay, i.e. in fast succession, I only get the two pages once, i.e. after the last of these jobs has been printed.
    What seems to be related to that is the status message on the "Printers" page of CUPS' Web interface: It says
    Idle - "Sending data to printer."
    all the time, even though I am not printing anything. (And this was the same before the update.)
    Printing is otherwise completely fine - the one practical problem is I have an ever-growing pile of empty pages mixed with pages containing the above error message next to my printer, i.e. two extra pages after each printout. (The one workaround I have found so far is quickly switching off the printer after within the 25 - 30 secs time window.) I have tried to google this problem with various search term combinations, but have not been able to find pages specific to this problem anywhere.
    What I have tried out was wiping the /etc/cups directory, updating cups, adding the printer again using lpadmin, and setting it as the default printer with lpoptions (both as explained in the Arch Wiki page). This has not changed anything relevant about the behaviour.
    (The one effect this has had is that pointing some browsers (Opera, Dillo) to localhost:631 now gets a "Bad request" response from CUPS, but on most browsers (Mozilla, Qupzilla, Midori, Google Chrome, Lynx) it gets the normal Web interface. But this is probably not related to the problem.)
    I will try to give some basic context:

  • Schedule Line Delivery Date Calculation with Transportation Scheduling

    Hi All,
    We are currently running into a problem where our Sales Order Schedule Line delivery dates are being pushed out too far into the future - because of the Calendar being used to determine the transit time.
    We have 'Delivery Scheduling' and 'Transportation Scheduling' activated for our Sales Document type
    We have Routes that are configured with a 'Transit Time' and a 'Factory Calendar'
    Order Scenario:
    'Factory Calendar' assigned to our 'Route' is setup with only one 'Workday' in a given week e.g. Wednesday
    Our 'Route' has a Transit Time of 2 days
    We create a Sales Order on Monday for a Material that is available in our Plant
    The 'Goods Issue' date is being determined correctly for the next Workday - being Wednesday
    The 'Delivery Date' is extending out over 15 days (2 Wednesdays into the future) - since it is working on 'Calendar Days' and not 'Actual Days'
    Does anyone know of a way (config or other) to only influence the 'Goods Issue' date with the 'Factory Calendar' assigned to the Route, and have the 'Delivery Date' calculated using the Transit Time on the Route and 'Actual Days' rather than Calendar days?
    All help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ravelle<i></i>

    Hi Pathik,
    Thanks for your reply.  I have already maintained the Calendars I'm using for this business process in <SCAL> - same as <OY05>.
    The problem I'm having though is that by assigning a Calendar directly to my route (which I doing to influence the goods issue date - using a 1 Working Day Calendar) it is also taking precedence in determining the Transit time - which in this case I don't want, as I want my Transit time to be determined using a 5 Working Day Calendar.
    I don't think this problem has a config option as a work around...I think the only possibility in this case is a development to achieve the results we need.
    Thanks,
    Ravelle

  • My Ipod is stuck on a white screen with the wrong time and a lock. computer doesn't recognized my Ipod..also gets hot when connected to charge..any ideas on how to fix this? Thank You

    Hi
    My Ipod nana...has frozen up and working. It shows a white screen with the wrong time and a lock symbol. When I connected it to my computer, it didn't show up. Back of Ipod gets really warm..Any ideas on how to fix it? Than You

    If it happens again and the reset (home + power buttons) doesn't work, just let the battery drain; you'll know when the screen shuts off. Charge it back up and it should be fine. Frankly, I'm surprised this worked for you. Usually I hear people with this problem say that holding both buttons doesn't work, and they have to do the battery drain.
    If the issue is incurable next time, you have a one-year warranty from the date of purchase.

    Unfortunately, Apple removed the feature to "browse backups" in Time Machine backups of iPhoto a few years ago.
    You have to restore the entire iPhoto library to a separate location to be able to "see" it, and then choose the specific images that you want use.
    For complete details, see #15 in Pondini's excellent support document Time Machine -- FAQ.  Check the information in the pink box there.

  • How to Restrict Single Delivery Date for PO with Multiple Line Items

    Dear Experts,
    How to Restrict Single Delivery Date for PO with Multiple Line Items.
    System needs to through Error Message if User Inputs Different Delivery Dates for PO with Multiple Line Items in ME21N Tcode.
    Can we achive this by Some Enhancement in SAP or Not ???
    If so how to do it.
    Any Inputs is highly appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Selvakumar. M

    Hi Selvakumar,
    we can resrict the PO to have a single delivery date in all the line items by means of giving a error message or overwiting the delivery date keyed/determined in the line item.
    You can use the BADI -> ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST. In which you need to implement the method PROCESS_SCHEDULE.
    (for technical aid - This method will be called for each and every PO line item, From the imporing parameter im_schedule we can get all the details of current PO line, even we can change the data in the current PO line. )

  • I have a Time Capsule with 2tb of storage, and an I-Mac with 500Gb. (which is at capacity) Can I use the Time Capsule to store data in addition to backing up the hard drive?

    I have a Time Capsule with 2tb of storage, and an I-Mac with 500Gb. (which is at capacity) Can I use the Time Capsule to store data from my hard drive that I want to access later in addition to backing up the hard drive?

    Can I use the Time Capsule to store data from my hard drive that I want to access later in addition to backing up the hard drive?
    Yes, but if you move the "original" data on your iMac to the Time Capsule....then the "original" data is now on the Time Capsule disk.
    When...not if...the Time Capsule disk has a problem, you have no backups for this data.
    Perhaps a much safer plan might be to add an external hard drive attached directly to your iMac. Then, move the data to that drive from the iMac.
    Now, Time Machine will back up both your iMac and the external hard drive so you have "originals" on one drive and backups on another. Would that plan work for you?

  • Creating a time channel in the data portal and filling it with data - Is there a more efficient way than this?

    I currently have a requirement to create a time channel in the data portal and subsequently fill it with data. I've shown below how I am currently doing it:
    Time_Ch = ChnAlloc("Time channel", 271214           , 1      ,           , "Time"         ,1                  ,1)              'Allocate time channel
    For intLoop = 1 to 271214
      ChD(intLoop,Time_Ch(0)) = CurrDateTimeReal          'Create time value
    Next
    I understand that the function to create and allocate memory for the time channel is extremely quick. However the time to store data in the channel afterwards is going to be highly dependent on the length I have assigned to the Time_Ch. In my application the length of Time_Ch is variable but could easily be in the order of 271214 or higher. Under such circumstances the time taken to fill Time_Ch is quite considerable. I am wondering whether this is the most appropriate way of doing things or whether there is a more efficient way of creating a time channel and filling it.
    Thanks very much for any help.
    Regards
    Matthew

    Hi Matthew,
    You are correct that there is a more efficient way to do this.  I'm a little confused about your "CurrDateTimeReal" assignment-- is this a constant?  Most people want a Time channel that counts up linearly in seconds or fractions of a second over the duration of the measurement.  But that looks like you would assign the same time value to all the rows of the new Time channel.
    If you want to create a "normal" Time channel that increases at a constant rate, you can use the ChnGenTime() function:
    ReturnValue = ChnGenTime(TimeChannel, GenTimeUnit, GenTimeXBeg, GenTimeXEnd, GenTimeStep, GenTimeMode, GenTimeNo)
    If you really do want a Time channel filled with all the same values, you can use the ChnLinGen() function and simply set the GenXBegin and GenXEnd parameters to be the same value:
    ReturnValue = ChnLinGen(TimeChannel, GenXBegin, GenXEnd, XNo, [GenXUnitPreset])
     In both cases you can use the Time channel you've already created (which as you say executes quickly) and point the output of these functions to that Time channel by using the Group/Channel syntax of the Time channel you created for the first TimeChannel parameter in either of the above functions.

    What i need to confirm is: ........................................................ see the next post of mine. (for Problems  need to be Resolved)

    Problems to Resolve:
    Problem#1) - Countdown Timer to the designated Date for Live-Broadcast-Event yet to take place.
    Problem#2) - Detect End of Live Stream on FLVPlayback with FLVPlayback.isLive = true;
    Problem#1 Description:
    I need to pinpoint the Logical TimeSync Exception, i am still unable to figure out. That is I'm using a webservice in my Application to Synchronize the Time with the actual ET (eastern time) with accomodation of auto-adjustment for EDT GMT-4 (eastern daylight time) & EST GMT-5 (eastern standard time), times. I am using the zipcode: "10012" to pass it to the Web Service in urlRequest object, to retrieve the Current ET eastern time according to EDT & EST time settings for Manhattan/Brooklyn areas or others within  New York, NY 10012.
    Currently the Web Service is returning accurate date/time based on local EDT GMT-4 daylight time.
    Is there some defined set of dates for EDT & EST times for New York region that I can check for to ensure the correct Dates/Times for Eastern Time in New York area ??? I am using NY zipcodes because i am sure to get correct ET values.
    The Major Problem Part: is I need to correct the time by 2 seconds or approx. 2 secs, some millisecs.
    When I retrieve the Time Value from WebService, it lags behind for 2 seconds as compared to DateObj i create using computer's local time, on my Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Automatic Updates turned-on. And I'm sure about my Windows will be having latest updates for Time Management already installed. I also added the 2 secs. to the TimeSync(ed) Date to make correction to this Date obj.
    I call my custom fucntion addSeconds(dateObj:Date, secs:int) to add 2 seconds to the Date by Converting Seconds to Milliseconds.
    Please comb through the as code in files attached and Help Me Out !!!
    Problem#2 Description:
    Secondly I need to Detect the End of Stream state while using FLVPlayback component, an rtmp:// live Stream from FLASH MEDIA SERVER.
    I need to Play a YuMe Post-Roll Ad when Steam Finishes/Ends.
    Live Broadcast Stream Event starts every night on Wednesdays & Saturdays exactly  at 10:59 PM EDT GMT-4.
    Live Events only Streams/Broadcasts the stream for 50secs. exactly. When [playback stopped] it plays a PostRoll Ad and after the CountdownTimer again comes back to life. The Next upcoming Event is calculated & the Countdown begins until Next Event's time/date is reached.
    Here is the  code on the frame 1 on the MainTimeline: (rest of the params like source, volume, skinAutoHide are Set using Property Inspector for FLVPlayback instance on Stage)
    //myStream instance of FLVPlayback is on the Stage
    myStream.isLive = true;// Frame 1 Actions in the FLA
    myStream.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE, onEndOfStream);
    myStream.addEventListener(VideoEvent.STATE_CHANGE, onState);
    myStream.addEventListener(String(VideoError.NO_CONNECTION), onStreamError);
    myStream.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatusHandler);
    /*if(myStream.stopped){
         trace("tracy: "+myStream.state);
    } else if(myStream.state == VideoState.STOPPED){
         trace("tracy: "+myStream.state);
    function onStreamError(event:VideoError) {
         trace(event.code + "\n\t" + event);
    function onState(event:VideoEvent) {
         trace(event.state + "\n\t" + event.toString());
    function onEndOfStream(event:VideoEvent) {
         trace(event.state + "\n\t" + event.toString());
    function netStatusHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void {
         switch (event.info.code) {
              case "NetConnection.Connect.Success":
                   //connectStream();
                   break;
              case "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound":
                   trace("Stream not found: "/* + myStream.source*/);
                   break;

  • Extremely slow performance transferring data over USB with Time Capsule

    I have the 2TB wireless Time Capsule. I have it setup as an extension to my current WiFi at home, since I already had a WLAN router. I have an external harddrive (500gig) that I connected to my Time Capsule because I wanted to transfer data from the Time Capsule to the external HD. The external HD is formatted with FAT32 file system, so read/write is no problem.
    When, using my MacBook Pro, I navigated to the Time Capsule and dragged files over to the connected USB harddrive (connected directly in the Time Capsule), the performance to transfer is extremely SLOW! It was slower than doing the transfer completely wirelessly (USB drive connected to laptop and transfer wirelessly from TC)!
    I do not understand this at all! It should be a simple transfer using the USB connection! When I do a transfer from my laptop directly to the USB harddrive, with it connected directly to the laptop, the transfers are super fast!
    What happened? Can someone please explain this or tell me what I need to do?
    Thank you!

    I am still confused here.
    My original question was regarding the use of my USB external harddrive. It was connected to the back of the TC. The TC was wirelessly speaking to my WLAN router. Using my laptop (also wirelessly speaking to WLAN router), I navigated to the TC and saw 2 listings - one for the data on the harddrive in the TC and one for the new external USB drive connected to the back of the TC. I wanted to transfer data from the harddrive in the TC to the USB external drive. Based on what I expected, I thought the transfer rate would merely be limited by the USB 2.0 interface that is being used by the external drive. However, I was definitely wrong! The transfer rate (shown by the estimate in time to transfer the data by my MacBook Pro) was doubled to 14 hrs.
    Originally, it was only 7 hrs when the USB external drive is connected directly to my laptop and I connect to the TC wirelessly. Weird!
    So why doesn't the TC simply transfer the data from its internal harddrive to the external USB drive directly without using any wireless technology?
    The second question I have is regarding the setup of the TC itself. I have a NetGear WLAN router and its an "n" router. So the speed is good. I have my TC currently downstairs from the WLAN router. Therefore the TC is setup as simply a wireless harddrive. It speaks through the WLAN router in order to be available to all my laptops in my house. My question is whether it should instead be directly connected to the WLAN router using an ethernet cable? Would this improve my overall transfer rates to/from the TC?
    Thanks so much.
