What is the best way to build a news system?

Hi everyone,
I am building a website using webcenter and I need to do a section called "News". The Editor user is going to put on this section some news about the company.
The doubt is: What is the best way to do is? There is a way to integrate the webcenter with Content Server and store the news as a content on it? Or the best thing to do is treat each news as a page (by using the task flow - Page create new)?
Thanks
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
I'm not shure if that is the best way, but we're using the Page Service Task Flow and scope.
If you want to use Oracle Content Server(ucm) probably your user must create a doc(news) and upload it by using something like the Library Task Flow.

    what is the best way to build an app?

    I've never done it, but sure, all sorts of companies will contract to code up an application for you - big companies like Honeywell and General Dynamics to Joe Programmer free-lancing out of his house will contract for computer coding projects.  Without knowing details of the app to be developed I have no idea what it would cost or how long it would take.  Some of the free-lance programmers I personally know bill out at over (some, well over) $100/hour.
    If you really think your idea is great, then be sure to approach discussing it with a developer as a business transaction.  Almost every company will have an unsolicted ideas policy in place (Apple explicitly does under their legal information page) and any unsolicited ideas sent in become the intellectual property of the company (by sending the idea unsolicited, you have legally "given" it to them).
    P.S. as to how long to learn how to program well?  Some people spend an entire college degree's worth of time and effort to master that.

    What is the best way to connect my new MBP to a computer monitor?  DVI, VGA or HDMI?  Thanks

    I recommend the Apple MiniDisplay Port to DVI adaptor.  I would avoid VGA.  MiniDisplay Port to HDMI will work as well (3rd party).

  • What's the best way to set up new imac for logic etc?

    In brief:
    Getting new imac (27", 3.4 i7, 8-16GB ram, 1TB HD). Will be using it mainly to run Logic Studio (loads of plugins) and Final Cut Express. I also have 2 external Hard drives one 500G one 1TB.
    The last imac I bought was my first and just went ahead and threw everything at it not really knowing where things should go. This time I want to set things up correctly.
    Basically, with what I've got, what is the best way to set things up. I.e where do I put logic files, samples, BFD2, Amplitube etc. Where do I put videos for use in FCE. Storing projects and backups for use with Time Machine.
    Also noticed the new imac will only have 1 firewire port. I will need to plug in the Hard drives (daisy chained), camera and RME Fireface 800. Was thinking of getting a Thunderbolt Hard drive but they are expensive and hard to find.
    Would really appreciate any help before I get the new machine and start messing things up again.
    Thanks.

    Adding to babowa, enable the system firewall in System Preferences>Security>Firewall tab. Click Advanced and check Stealth Mode.
    Lion is a pretty steady and secure operating system, and as there really aren't MANY Mac viruses, there ARE viruses out there still. OS X is pretty good about letting you know if you do accidently download a virus, and it will help you throw it away if it detects one, such as the MACDefender virus. OS X has built in security features such as sandboxing that doesn't allow viruses in as easily as a Windows PC. As for hackers, as long as you have the firewall enabled and a secure password (for your computer and email accounts), then you should be fine.
    It's the user that lets the virus in, not the computer (unless there's some untold serious vulnerability in OS X, which is highly unlikely). Keep your apps up to date, don't download pirated software, and be street smart on the internet. Don't download things or visit websites that you don't think are real. Safari includes a Phishing feature that automatically detects known phishing sites, protecting you from that big problem. Keep your passwords secure and you should be fine.
    There are antivirus solutions out there, one notable one available in the AppStore is Intego's VirusBarrier (free and plus versions), if you feel you still need one.
    I wouldn't worry about it. Windows users who switch to Mac are always asking these questions.
    Here's some good reading as well

  • What is the best way to protect my new Macbook Pro?

    I finally have a shinny new 13" Macbook Pro Rentina and I'm wondering what is the best way to protect it? I am considering either a hard case or a sleeve but which one is the best? This thing is worth more than my car and I can't afford for anything to happen to it! Hard case? Sleeve? Both?

    Congratulations on your MBPR! I had the exact same question when I bought mine. I ended up using a hard case and a sleeve. For the case I went with the Kuzy Hard Case and an Incase Deluxe Sleeve. Using a sleeve and case is great and I feel like my Macbook is very well protected and I am no longer scared of breaking it with this setup! Best of luck!

  • What is the best way to build a career path where I can evolve into an SAP role instead of one that is Customer Service based?

    In October 2011, my previous employer converted to SAP, as the rest of the worldwide entities were already using SAP. At that time, I was an Order Coordinator, where my job role was to process all of the Inside/Outside Sales Representatives orders for the US. Because of my keen attention to detail, the speed in which I learn new roles and general IT knowledge, I was asked to be the SAP SuperUser for our Financial Operations team. I quickly began to learn the roles of Order-to-Cash, Customer Master Data, Pricing Conditions, Contracts, some Material Master Data, and even Customer/Material Pricing Audits. I also performed manual customer billing in SAP until the automatic modules were implemented. Knowledge of these roles created a need for me to become a trainer to my team, where the SAP Consultants left off. After only working in SAP for the few months after the conversion started, I evolved out of an Order Coordinator rights of access and was given a not-so-typical role as an "analyst". I had more than a firefighter role in SAP, as my normal log in credentials gave me full rights to all of these modules and even special reporting. Our parent global company realized necessity for my role and followed proper protocol to authorize the access changes to still meet the SOx regulations. Prior to using SAP, I never thought I'd fall in love with it and enjoy my job so much, but it happened! Despite my previous employer's less than perfect data that was copied into SAP, we managed to have an efficient ongoing process to clean it all up.  I became more of a liaison between Financial Operations and our IT Dept/SAP Consultants. I "translated" the technical steps that IT/SAP Consultants were trying to teach everyone and trained my Financial Operations team in a way they would understand. I truly enjoyed my job, even at our most difficult moments.
    However, after all of the fun I was having while working in SAP and truly gaining a ton of useful experience and knowledge, "life" happened and I had an opportunity to move from Atlanta, GA to southern California. I've searched for months to find a new career here in California with a company that I could continue my learning experiences and become more proficient in SAP, but I'm a little lost. My search to find jobs have only given me possibilities in Customer Service positions or ones that are SAP sales/programming based. I'm floating in limbo and looking for help from the SAP community on where I can go from here to get back into a career path with SAP.
    I'm 28 years old and I'm currently finishing my Associate degree in Business Administration. I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), certified with the Help-Desk Institute as a Support Center Analyst, and also completed my previous employer's Quality Advocate Certification which focused on Six Sigma and Lean concepts. Prior to leaving the company, I was being considered for a company sponsored training in the Six Sigma Green or Black Belt program. I've recently started working a contract position as a Customer Service Rep, processing orders, but the company will be completing an SAP conversion in May 2013; so only a few months away. The problem I have in this position is that I feel frustrated in learning their current software when their entire team seems to have their own personal ways of doing their job. I prefer to have structure and perform job duties the right way, then building on that to make the job more streamlined. I spoke with my recruiter but he feels I may be a bit premature on feelings about working in this contract position. I may be just feeling a little impatient in having to wait another 3 months to see if the company may even hire me on permanently and what role I would have with SAP, beyond Customer Service Rep. I'm hoping to get some direction from the SAP community on where I might focus my attention in learning SAP. My hope is to find a position working with SAP like the one I enjoyed so much back in GA. I'm even considering options to learn the programming side. I think SAP is a great software package once people understand how it's designed, or can be designed, to work.
    Please help!!
    I'd be happy to provide my resume to anyone willing to review it and give me some pointers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    I appreciate the length and detail of your post. I struggle answering questions from folks who give too little info. It's refreshing to have too much info for a change.
    I'll summarize your post and give suggestions:
    You have very strong end user experience, almost bordering on support level SD knowledge. You have experience with the way that at least one company implemented SAP SD but don't have many years of experience with different approaches, so you can't pitch yourself as someone who's "been-there, done-that" outside of the SD world and you can't bill yourself as having SD functional knowledge to the extend that you could be a consultant for SAP SD.  (See FAQ: Different Career Paths in SAP for descriptions of different traditional SAP career paths.)
    You've moved to Southern California, which is chock full of companies using SAP, by the way, and you're having a hard time finding the right job. Your education is probably going to be problematic at this point. Most SAP related jobs require a Bachelor's Degree at a minimum. Definitely keep on going with your degree. I don't know where you're doing your associate's degree, but you might want to look in to Cal State Fullerton, which has an *excellent* SAP focused business degree program. (http://business.fullerton.edu/).
    You've found work at a company but had to start over at a lower level of responsibility. Since the job you just landed will be transitioning to SAP in 3 months, you have an opportunity to repeat your previous rise by volunteering to be a super-user again. Alternatively, you could talk to the group within your company and express your desire to help out supporting the system from the back end. Traditionally, companies lose a few folks immediately following an implementation, so there's a good chance that if you make your desires and skills known, that you'll be able to move onto the support team once a position opens up.
    All of the above assumes that you want to continue on the functional side of SD. You didn't mention any aptitude or preference for programming. It is certainly easier to get programming jobs than functional jobs (see How did you get your start in SAP?), but it seems like you really enjoyed the functional side of SAP. I do *not* recommend learning an SAP skill for which you have no desire simply to get a job, hoping that you can switch later. Use the skills you have to get the job you really want, doing something that really excites you. It's far to easy to fall into a job simply because it's there and get trapped and burned out.
    Hope this helps!
    Best regards,

  • What's the best way to do a "queing system"?

    I am trying to create a system where it has a number of queued slots and it accepts X incoming services. Now each service arrives/departs at different times so i could have one arrive 10 seconds from now and departs 20 seconds after arrival while the one after that could arrive sooner/later. Is the best way to implement this is to have 2 threads - one that is going through a loop to clear the queue while another thread is going through another loop generating new services? It is quite possible a new service is generated while another service is being serviced.:
    Thread 1:while(X>0) {  //has more incoming services
          masterTime++;
         if (currentServiceFinishTime > masterTime) {
         } else {
               removeCurrentService();
               startNextService();
    thread 2:
    generateNextServiceArrivalTime() {
         while (X>0) {
               getNextService();
              if (queueHasRoom) {
                    addNextService();
              } else if(arrivalTime +currentTime >currentServiceTime) {
                   removeCurrentService();
                   initiateNextServiceInQueue();
                  updateMasterTime();
                   addNextService();
            } else {
                  rejectIncomingService(); //queue is full and the current service is not going to be done before the incoming service arrives
    }is this way of doing it too confusing? any better way to implement this? thanks!

It is quite possible a new service is generated while another service is being serviced.That's the classic producer/consumer pattern. You might be able to use java.util.concurrent.BlockingQueue to reduce coding. Two threads, one consumer and one producer, are the minimal. Meanwhile, if a newer posted service request needs to finish before an older service request, you will need more than one consumer thread to avoid starvation. It is also a good idea to have a thread pool of consumers even if the timing does not matter, as you will get to better utilize multi-processing hardware.

  • What's the best way to start a new, LARGE vault?

    Hi all,
    I have a late 2010 Mac Pro and a 1.8TB Aperture library on a dedicated internal drive. The internal 2TB drive that manages the library has gotten full, so I've just replaced the internal drive to 3TB and copied the library over from the 2TB drive (took about 4hrs to copy).
    Now I've got to replace the 2TB EXTERNAL vault drive, with a 3TB external vault drive. I'm wondering how best to go about it?
    Should I just create a new vault from within Aperture or copy my old vault to the new drive?
    I mentioned I have a 2010 Mac Pro because it only has USB 2.0 (and FireWire 800) ports. I'm guessing it will take days to create this new vault via USB and am wondering if anyone knows the fastest way to go about it ?
    Thanks very much

    1) Physically disconnect the old Vault drive and put it aside as an archival backup, at least until Aperture and your new hardware have been in _perfect_ operation for a few weeks.
    2) Verify that Aperture is working properly and that your Library is fully functional.
    3) Attach your new drive via FW800. If the new drive is capable of external (rather than just through FW) power attach the external power. USB also works but is slower and IMO less consistent than FW.
    4) Use Disk First Aid to verify that the new drive is functioning properly.
    5) Restart the Mac.
    6) Enter Aperture and from within Aperture create a new Vault on the new external drive.
    7) Keep the Vault drive physically disconnected from the system when not actively backing up to avoid damage from power surges as well as from human error. Ideally store it in a vault and/or off site. A vault drive lost to lightning, fire or theft has no value.
    HTH
    -Allen
    P.S. Personally I recommend against such large Libraries and Vaults. I recommend using a Referenced-Originals Library and backing up originals before entering Aperture. That makes for a much smaller Library and much smaller vaults as well as much safer originals. In databases smaller is by definition better.

  • What is the best way to build DC

    Hello Friends,
    This is a question for discussion.
    There are 2 ways we can build and deploy DCs.
    I. According to SAP documentation DC build
             1.Switch to the Java DC Explorer view.
             2.In the context menu of your DC, choose Development Component  ®  Build...
             3.In the dialog that appears, select your project node.
             4.Choose OK.
    II. Deploy new archive and run. Which is also in SAP Documentation for building a project.
    Search for "[Building, Deploying, and Running the Project|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/f1/91fb3fc781ef28e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm]" in SAP help.
    Is there any specific draw back in second method? if yes do we have any supporting documentation from SAP.
    Thanks
    Shobhan

    H Shoban,
    I am not sure if there is any document on this. But following is my observation on this on both the options of building and deploying WebDynpro  projects.
    Option 1: As far as I know this option is provided when you have DC project. This approach includes  dependent objects and other dependent DC given in DC metadata during build.
    Advantage: Consistent result and most of the time error are cleared which are introduced due to incorrect and inconsistent public parts dependency(DC Metadata).
    Issue: Might take more time/resource as it needs to check and consider all the public parts from dependent DC's (This can be clearly seen in cases where there and many DC dependency)
    Option 2: This approach is based on building dynpro  eclipse project. It does not takes into account DC meta data. It starts with an assumption dependent object (jars and project reference) are in place ( this is were it could be issue)
    Advantage: Might be fast as it does not consider DC metadata.
    Issue: Inconsistency in DC metadata and dependency are not detected.
    Summary: Difference is because of compilation of DC metadata. if you are modifying single DC and dependency are simple then option 2 can be used. but when multiple project are modified simultaneously which have interdependency, then option 1 is to be used to get consistent results.

  • What's the best way to build myself a custom arch installation cd ?

    it should have xorg, window manager and some other programs that i use . Coould it also be both live cd and install cd or just an install cd. Also is it possible to make it installable in the easiest possible way even by say windows user by doing next, next...? That degree of customization i need. Is it possible?

    Perhaps download CTKArchlive which is arch-based, uses openbox, pacmanfm...customize to your liking.
    It is ~500mb of download and can be cd or flash.
    It is normally in French but english is provided in the latest 0.6 versions i686 or 64 bit.
    Easy to try out and can be modified at your leisure with addons.
    Includes copy to ram and persistent home features.
    A fine "live" system...
    I have added feh mirage,kdenlive, vlc and hp printer to my 64bit CTKArchlive system.
    It is fast...mine loads to ram in 23 seconds.  Normal boot is 13 seconds.
    Give it a go............

  • What is the best way to import and edit a large amount of footage?

    Hello Apple world,
    As a newbie to Final Cut 10 I have a question regarding best ways to import footage. I'll give you a quick run down.
    I have a 150 gig of gopro footage that I just hit 'import' to recently (from my external HD), it took around 10 hours to process it all.
    Its all under one event, but then somewhat organised into dates etc. But it is very slow. I imported it all at once because it was all footage from the last 6 months of my Whistler/states/fiji trip and want to make a movie out of it, using clips from all over the time, not just in chronological order.
    I have the latest mac book pro, 4 gig ram,2.4 GHz i7, 750 hard drive, with nothing else on the computer.
    Ive read about creating proxy media, after ive imported, but am still somewhat confused as to the benefit. Does it create duplicates? that will fill up my pretty large HD as it is!
    Can you suggest any ways that might make my laptop run a bit faster? Should i delete and work directly from external HD etc etc?
    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance
