Will 2800-400 BIOS update enable 802.11g wireless LAN?

I recently bought a Belkin 54G cardbus wireless adapter for use with my Satellite 2800-400, which has a Windows ME OS.
The setup software wouldn't install a driver, even though ME was said to be supported.
I wrote to Belkin and they told me that it was because the laptop BIOS didn't support 802.11g wireless and that I should update the BIOS. I updated to BIOS version 2 but it didn't make any difference.
I don't know if Belkin's instructions were on the right track or whether they were they just pushing the responsibility as far away from themselves as they could.
Please can anyone tell me if my laptop does support 802.11g wireless, with or without the BIOS upgrade?
TIA
Mike

Thanks for the reply. the notebook does support wireless LAN because I can get a 802.11b card to function OK.

Well it's done now so there may be other benefits. Not 802.11g wireless though it seems.

Thanks I'll try to find and contact a service partner.

Receiving a pop up saying that there is an update to ralink 802.11n wireless lan card. Is this crucial?Bad past experience with updating things that weren't crucial.  Thanks!

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I have read your post on how your desktop computer displays a pop-up message prompting you to update the wireless card installed. I would be happy to assist you in this matter! If you are not experiencing any difficulties connecting to a wireless network on your computer, I would not count the update as crucial. If your computer is having trouble connecting to the network, even if the problem is intermittent, it may be a good idea to install the update. I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions or concerns feel free to post back! Cheers

  • Can I use an airport express to extend a Cisco E4200 802.11n or 802.11g wireless network?

Can I use an Airport Express to extend a Cisco E4200 802.11n or 802.11g wireless network?  I'd like to improve access in a dead spot with an airport express. I know I can connect this wayt for airplay, but how about extending the signal?
    Thx! ACB

Apple's "extend a wireless network" function appears to be a proprietary feature that works only with other Apple AirPort routers. As far as we know, this feature is not compatible with devices from other manufacturers.
It would be extremely unlikely that the Express could do what you want, but some things are never known until  you try.

I have a G5 Tower with PCI slots.
Is there a way to make this wireless card recognized as an AirPort card under OS 10.5.8?
Currently, it does not even show up System Profiler.

Just google "Netgear WG311v3 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter". Apparently it supports Windows OS's. You can also inquire from the manufacturer.

  • Elite pavilion m9510 & Atheros 802.11 wireless lan compatibility with win7

I am having great difficulty with the Atheros 802.11 wireless lan and win7; what can i do to resolve this issue? all uninstall/reinstalls of drivers and Windows 7 have been tried several times. The ironic part of this is that the wireless network was working fine until the Qualcomm atheros update and I could not restore to the date of that update, so I rebooted with win 7. I am considering buying a new wireless card but need to know what type to get.

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion Elite m9510f Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model uses PCIe x1 802.11 Wireless a/b/g/n card. Many of these PCIe x1 802.11 b/g/n wireless adapters should do the trick as a replacement.
    Please see the HP Pavilion Elite m9510f Desktop PC Drivers & Downloads page for HP provided drivers for original drivers for your wireless adapter. You can also provide the Windows Device Manager's "Hardware Ids" for the wireless adapter and we can search for drivers based on that information. Please see below for an example;

Can I use a wireless 802.11g adapter with my imac (iLamp)to connect to my snow base station, or bo I need ans xxx.11g /b adapter?

Sorry - I missed that from the title of your message.
The answer to that question is no - an exclusively 802.11g USB wireless adapter will not be able to connect to a Snow Base Station. I'd be surprised if this was ever an issue - I don't know of any exclusively 802.11g USB wireless adapters that work with Macs.
I suggest you avoid use of USB wireless adapters with Macs. Yes some people have used them successfully, but still more people have nothing but grief with these devices. Very, very few USB wireless adapters have any MacOS driver support in the first place.

Will the Belkin 802.11g work with an iBook model M6497 snow white iBook running OSX 1.2? I have been hunting around the forums and net trying to find out if it would work and can't find out if it would work or not. G3 iBook Model M6497   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   Burnt out Ethernet card, tight budget - any help would be great.

Looking at the accessories for Mac portables, there is no USB adapter compatible (most likely due to there being no Mac driver). The Ethernet bridge seems like the only option, though it's out of stock at the moment, but seeing that you have a non-functioning Ethernet port, I guess that'd not work very well.

  • Deskjet 460 802.11g wireless setup on Win7

    {Personal Information Removed}
There has to be someone in HP who can explain clearly how to set up a Deskjet 460 with 802.11g card in "infrastructure" mode on a router, using Win7. Surely!
The 460 was not fully supported on Win7, but Win7 has a driver which works with a USB cable. The challenge is how you get an infrastructure network profile into the 802.11g card when the tools on the Starter CD are XP-only - actually, even if they were to work on Win7, they have disappeared from the HP website, so you cannot download them.
Looking at a previous thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Issues-with-DeskJet-460-WiFi-and-Windo...), lots of folks are as frustrated as I am, but nobody has so far answered the key question.
Before dumping XP I created a network profile on a USB stick, using the Starter CD - this was an xml file in a folder named SMRTNTKY. It was supposed to allow me to replicate the settings on other printers (or on mine if I lost the settings). Now, it is not recognised by the printer, but I have no idea why. I have cleared the profile, inserted the USB stick, powered off and on, with no change - the printout still shows the network profile as ad hoc / hpsetup.
I and others need a clearly documented process for creating an infrastructure network profile and for getting it into the printer, so we can use the device with Win7. If this needs software, we need that software to be available for download from the HP website, ideally via links from the reply (since the website is a bit of a mess to navigate. Please help.

    Hi,
Assuming you have WiFi connectivity on your laptop, try setting a temporary ad hoc connection and then use the EWS to connect the printer to your router as a workaround, such a software is not available for Windows 7:
Follow these steps to install the product on the network with the Windows 7 printer driver.
    Turn the product on.
Insert the wireless printer card into the printer.
Reset the wireless network settings on the product:
Reset all of the 802.11 wireless profiles: Press and hold the Power button ( ), press the Cancel ( ) button two times, and then press the Resume button ( ) eight times. Release all buttons.
Click the Wireless icon on your system traym then connect to the HPSETUP netowrk.
Wait two minutes for the printer to obtain an IP Address, and then print a wireless configuration page:
Make sure the product is on and idle.
Press and hold the Cancel button ( ) for more than two seconds. A wireless configuration page prints.
Locate the IP address / URL printed on this page, type it into your web browser to access its EWS page.
Open the Network / Wireless tab, click the Wireless option or the Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the steps  to connect the pritner to your router.
Press and hold the Cancel button ( ) for more than two seconds. A wireless configuration page prints. note the listed IP.
Right click the USB printer icon within Devices and printers, select Printer Properties. Within the Ports tab create a new Standard TCP/IP port and type the listed IP for this port.
Hope that help, I cannot guide you further within the EWS as I do not have the exact device but you should locate it within the networking area of the EWS

  • Tecra 8000: Does Bios Update enable booting from USB?

    Hello
    I have Toshiba Tecra 8000 (PentiumII 266MHZ)
Will this bios bios-t8000-930-trad.zip (08/26/02) enable boot from USB ?

    Hi
Im not sure about that. Your BIOS version is 020 but on the Toshiba website I have found a BIOS version 9.30. Well, it seems that this version is newer but Im not sure if it allows you to use the 40GB HDD.
Some Tecra 8000 models were delivered with a 14 GB HDD. In my opinion it should be possible to use a 20 or maybe a 30 GB HDD but its difficult to say if the bigger HDD size will work.
You can ask the professional HDD dealer or a ASP for further informations.

  • HP jetdirect ew2400 802.11g Wireless Print Server

I have a network setup where there is a PC desktop and a couple of
laptops (one Macbook Pro and the other a PC) which are respectively connected to a Linksys wireless router by wire and wirelessly. There is also an HP All-In-One 6110 thrown
into this mix, which is currently hard-wired via USB to the desktop. I
want to make the AIO networkable, both wirelessly and wired. I did
some research and came across this JetDirect product from HP.
I have a question about this particular product. It mentions in the
literature that this product will either work wirelessly or wired. No
where does it mention that it will do both at the same time. I am
familiar with wireless routers which allow both wired and wireless
connections. Would the same not be true for the print server?

Henry G4 makes some good points.
I am not sure I understand why you want to use both wireless and ethernet at the same time. In both cases it would be on the same local network, right? The only situation I can think of using both wired and wireless is if you have two separate networks and you're trying to share it on each.
So, I add this: whether the printer were wired or wireless, it would be accessible to all computers in the same local network.
Here is your real problem - drivers. Unless you have read something elsewhere, the OS X print driver HP provided for your AIO only works for direct USB connection. Not even with an HP Jetdirect. (not sure about scanning driver) read here:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&task Id=120&prodSeriesId=408888&prodTypeId=18972&objectID=c00218889
It will be cheaper to try sharing as Henry suggests. You will need the hpijs driver set:
    http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs
PS - I know this is hard for Windows converts to get their arms around, because on Windows, a driver is a driver. But on OS X, we're not there yet - there are two kinds of print drivers.
PS#2 - This product "might" work for your printer (I don't have one). It has software on the mac & PCs to make USB devices appear to be at the computer:

  • Advice Required TC & Linksys 802.11g Wireless ADSL Gateway

    Hi,
I am just about to fork out for a TC but just wanted to check how I would connect the TC to my existing Wireless Router/Access Point. Am I right in thinking that I will need to connect the two via Ethernet if I wish to use the TC to get an internet connection?
I am in the UK by the way. Any help much appreciated

No matter which "side" you put the TC on (connected to the modem or connected to a router) you can still create two separate networks. My linksys router was a N and I left that in place but did hook up the TC via ethernet (they are sitting right next to each other). I did try it wirelessly and didn't have any problems (but I only ran it for a couple of hours before going back to wired).
I left the Linksys connected to the modem because it was easier/faster to create a new network and leave the existing network alone. That way I only had to change the network on a few devices (AppleTV, iMac, one PC) all my other devices that are not N capable are sitting on the original network.

  • Recent News on How to upgrade the 802.11g Wireless Card to a 802.11n Card

    Hi everyone!
I have a macbook Core Duo (not core 2 duo) and I want to buy the new airport express. I was really upset to see that I will not gete the performance upgrade of the n technology on my new computer. Finnaly I saw this post on AppleInsider
    http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2510
It says that you can replace the wireless card in the Macbook with a card from the Mac Pro (the same size and same amount of antenas) and the n technology would work (and increase speed and performance).
Here is how to do it:
    http://www.hardmac.com/articles/71/
Has anyone done this yet? Does it work? Is there a violation of Applecare by doing this? Where would you get a n airport card for the MacPro?
Any ideas on this subject would be great!
If it is true and leagl, then I would be very happy.

  • Wireless LAN driver can't load after BIOS update NB550D

    Hi
I have a new NB550D and have jst installed the recommended BIOS update. Now the Wireless LAN driver can't load (error code 31).
I tried installing the lestest driver off the Toshiba website but it still can't be loaded by Windows...
Everything was fine before this! Any ideas?

    > In the Device Manager the Atheros Wireless is shown
This means that the Wlan driver was installed properly and the issue could be related to configuration between Wlan card and Wlan router.
You should check if the notebook can connect to Wlan router without the usage of any encryption settings.
Disable the WEP/WPA encryption and test the connectivity. Of course this should be done only for test attempts.
Are you sure that the Wlan is enabled? Enable this using FN + F8
