Hi,
Last friday one of server's cluster restarted without any logical reason. We found a minidump and a dr Watson log. From the user dump we have this information:

Could anybody help us to understand what happened? We have Symantec 11 Client in this server.
Best Regards and thanks in advance.

I see that the process
Rtvscan.exe is highlighted in the dump. This belongs to Symantec: http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/rtvscan.exe.html
Also, I see multiple access violation errors.
Please note that Windows Server 2000 is no longer supported by Microsoft. However, this OS version seems to be supported for the Symantec Version you use. If the problem gets reproduced again then I would recommend removing Symantec AV and trying again.
If this fixes the issue then you might want to contact Symantec Support for assistance.

• Install Oracle 10g on Windows 2003 Server cluster (MSCS)

Hi all
How do I install Oracle 10g on Windows 2000 cluster (MSCS installed)?
I have a 2-nodes Microsoft windows 2003 server cluster and I want to install Oracle 10g,
Do I folloow this order:
1. Install the software on both without the database
2. Create the database from the first node
in this case, The second node can see the database as it is available?,
and what about the IP adresses?
If you can point me to some documentation, or help in any way, I would appreciate it.
Thanks for any help.

Read here...
http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A96685_01/intro.htm
>>
Oracle Fail Safe comprises multiple components: Oracle Fail Safe Manager, Oracle Services for MSCS, and server components specific to Oracle Fail Safe.
>>
So I don't know how you can achieve this without Fail Safe.
There might be other link which I cannot find right now.

• 2 nodes RAC with Oracle 10g on Windows 2000 server

Hi at all. I want to manage a cluster having 2 nodes on windows 2000 server each of them with Oracle 10g. I have VMWare 5.0. Someone can suggest me a detailed tutorial how to start and built it? Thank you very much for your answers.
Saverio Sergio Mola

the cookbooks here:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/vmware/cookbook/index.html
will explain how to install.. however the VMware Workstation product doesn't offer in a supportedway the sharing of two nodes of disks.. there are hacks out there, but they are not very stable. We therefor chose to install two instances on one node to showcase RAC, rather than make it complicated and unstable to use and showcase.
there are also ready made VM's from above page, so u can quickly evaluate it for both Red HAt and SuSE.. when vmware can support such sharing in an easy supported way we might re-evaluate.. until then my personal suggestion is to stick to simple case.. 2 instances on one node.. its easier to copy, snapshot.. etc.
Enjoy..
Saar.

• Can I install Oracle 8.1.5 on Windows 2000 server or Windows 2000 professional

Hi,
Can I install Oracle 8.1.5 on a Windows 2000 server or Windows 2000 professional server?
Regards,
Zurvaan

Yes, of course. Both versions works but you have to be prepared for lots of RAM.

• Installation problem JDK 1.5 on Windows 2000 server

I am trying to install the new J2SE Development Kit 5.0 for Windows 32 bit on a windows server 2000 computer with sp4. When I attempt to execute the file
I get the following result
# An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x036eb514, pid=1872, tid=1592
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.4.2_10-b03 mixed mode)
# Problematic frame:
# C [awt.dll+0xb514]
I see that the log file refers to Hot spot client 1.4.2 - I'll post the rest of log if necessary but thought I would try asking in case the solution is clear without the full log.
I understand JDK 5.0 can be installed on windows 2000 server with service pack 3 or 4. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I've checked all these possibilities:
(1) DLL's associated with JAVA - none other than 1.5
(2) Path makes no reference to 1.4 anywhere
(3) No othe java programs are listed in add/remove programs
(4) no oracle product is installed
(5) windows 2000 registry does not contain anything obviously associated with 1.4.2
IS any Java product included automatically with Windows 2000 Service pack 4?
Here is the full log file text:

• WIndows 7 64-bit system printing to a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server

Is there any way to configure a new Windows 7 64-bit computer to use a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server ?
The printer that I would like to connect to is an HP 4240n LaserJet. I appears that there is only a 64-bit Universal Print Driver available. The server currently uses HP 32-bit PCL5e or PCL6 drivers for all other connected computers. Connection is through a Hewlett-Packard Network Port, using DLC/LLC transport for the embedded 4240n print server.
Installing  the HP 64-bit UPD to the WIndows 7 64-bit system, and then attempting to redirect the local port to the Win2k network print server has not worked.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi:
See if this works...
Run msconfig.
In the System Configuration screen, Boot tab, Advanced Options, if there is a check mark in the box next to Maximum memory. Remove that checkmark and save your changes.
Reboot and hopefully Windows recognises all the Ram ( minus the reserved ) after restarting.
Please give that a try, and post back and let us know if that frees up some system memory for you.

I am not sure but I think the problem is with the allocated shared memory size, which right now is:
<b>init.ora</b>
shared_pool_size = 67108864
<b>init<SID>.ora</b>
shared_pool_size = 90112000
shared_pool_reserved_size = 9011200
If this is the cause of the problem then how much should i increase it to? and do i need to modify the size in both files or only init<SID>.ora? Is there any SAP Note related to this problem? Thanks.
Regards,

Hi Vasu,
ORA-4031... for 99%  of cases this means one thing:
the database instance is not configured correctly.
To proceed, do the following:
1. get rid of init.ora (it's not used at all)
2. make sure that the init<sid>.ora file is really used.
       If there is a spfile in the %ORACLE_HOME&/database folder
       then this will be used.
3. With your  configured shared pool of 85MB your memory should really not be filled up - anyhow it's really too small for a SAP system!
Thus I'd check how much memory the other sga-area members (buffer cache, large pool, streams pool, java pool...) take up.
        Remember on Windows 32 Bit, everything runs in one single process that can only allocate 2GB (or 3GB if you've set this option).
See note:

for more on this.
And when you're setting up parameters anyway, check note

• Install Oracle 8i Personald Edition on Windows 2000 Server SP2

Hi
I have problem to install the Oracle 8i Personal Edition on
Windows 2000 Server SP2.
I run the Setup.exe, I become the message (not exactly) &#8220;JRE
(Java Runtime Environment) was not found&#8230;&#8230; please visit
www.javasoft.com&#8230;.. and install JRE version 1.1.7 or higher&#8230;&#8221;
Now, I have download and install this JRE (JavaTM 2 Runtime
Environment v 1.2.2_008 / Internationalized version of Java 2
Runtime Environment).
The error-messages comes again.
Have everyone a idea?

hi phill...
why dont you try it out with the same CD and increase your RAM
by another 64MB? This will be enough. The reason is , most
Oracle 8i releases are combined with a java based Oracle
Universal Installer. This requires some good amount of RAM. Just
try it out with some extra memory. If this also didnt work, then
send in the problem,error with your system config. This will
help me in solving your problem.
Imran.

• Oracle 8.1.7 Server Installation on a P4 Windows 2000 Server

I am trying to Install Enterprise Oracle 8.1.7 on a P4 Windows 2000 Server Machine. I had a solution regarding the P4 bug, which asked the latest Service Pack for Win 2000 to be installed, the Oracle CD dump copied to hard disk and symcjit.dll to be renamed. This enabled me to start the Installation Process. I chose the Administrator option during installation.
However I noted that only Oracle Client is Loaded and NOT Server. I do not get any options to install Server. I only have 1 CD for Enterprise Oracle 8.1.7 which should have both Server Programs and Client Programs to Install I believe!
Any help would be appreciated!!!

When the Oracle8i CD is inserted the initial screen comes up.
From this I choose "Install/Deinstall Products".
After this nothing at all happens.
The initial screen closes and the system is as it was.
I would be obliged if you could help me out.
Yours Sincerely,
Chris.

• Problem installing Oracle 8i(8.1.7) standard edition on windows 2000 server

I am trying to install Oracle 8i (8.1.7) standard edition on windows 2000 server but the setup program doesn't run.
It starts up, allocates some ram then closes before a window even pops up.
I also have MSSQL server installed on this computer, does that conflict?
Has anyone encountered this problem before? If so, please give a solution if you have one, thanks,
OPS

Yes. There is a bug with Pent4, Win2000 & Oracle8i.
Here is the workaround:
This is a known bug with Oracle java-based applications and Pentium 4 Use this work-around:
1) Copy the install directory from the CD to the hard disk.
2) Edit oraparam.ini and modify it as follows:
* Edit the "SOURCE=" line to to show the full path to the CD ; SOURCE={CD DRIVE LETTER}:\stage\products.jar)
* Edit the "JRE_LOCATION" line to show the full path to the CD ;
JRE_LOCATION={CD DRIVE
LETTER}:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\jre\1.1.7\1\DataFiles\Expanded)
* Edit the "OUI_LOCATION" line to show the full path to the CD ;
OUI_LOCATION={CD DRIVE
LETTER}:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\oui\1.6.0.9.0\1\DataFiles\Expanded
* Edit the "JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS" line to include "-nojit" as the first argument ;
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit
-ms16m -mx32m
3) Start setup.exe from your hard drive
Choose a Custom install and choose not to create a database during the install.
This way, the Database
Configuration Assistant will not be launched during installation. DONT SELECT
NET8 products for installation.
You need to put the same java parameters for the DB configurator and the Net8
Configurator
to run.
-nojit -ms16m -mx32m before -classpath on:
* assistants\dbca\DBAssist.cl
* network\tools\netca.cl
** Run the DataBaseConfigurationAssistant and NetworkConfigurationAssistant after installation.
Hope it helps!
Amrit

got my answer, you can follow this step.
on windows 2000 server while launching oracle universal installer, due to jre bug (noted in metalink 266617.1 doc and 393070.1) installer CMD prompt launch and disapper in a while... so run following command on command prompt
to resolve the issue.. change directory path according to your directory structure.
change directory to your oracle installation setup.exe directory and execute following command
C:\>\backup\SoftwareBackup\Database10g\database\install\oui.exe -J-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=truethanks and regards
