1.1.3 update went great!!! But one gmail issue!

The update was simple and works great. Thanks apple.
One little issue is now my gmail on my iphone has 2500 emails sitting in my inbox. How do I get rid of them? Please don't say one by one???

That's because Gmail is now IMAP on the phone. Whatever you do on the phone or online is duplicated either on the phone or server depending on where you did it. I think once the emails are on your computer it doesn't effect either the phone or online. Notice I said "Think" I don't have much experience with IMAP.

Was a backup done prior to the update? If so, restore the backup.
As designed, the Camera Roll on the iPhone is temporary storage.  Copy the pictures/videos off to the computer the device normally syncs with then sync the desired pics/vids back to the device via iTunes.

  • Not great, but one Lion solution

Still being new to Mac (about 2 years overall, little more than 1 as my primary business computer), I still tend to approach a lot of things from a PC perspective. Especially anything new – the old PC rule “Never install v1.0 of anything” continues to serve me well. And that is exponentially higher when it comes to a new OS.
I had looked forward to Lion for several reasons – the biggest being the rumor it would include a full-up Windows emulator and I could junk Parallels and Win7, that virtual computer being the source of nearly all the problems I've ever had with my iMac (27" i5 w/8GB RAM – soon to be 16 – and 1TB HD).
Alas, Lion failed on that score. But I still planned to install it – as soon as it became 10.7.2, as it now is. But before installing anything, I always check the user forums. And despite Apple claiming a 4.5 out of 5 star customer satisfaction rating, almost every message I read was in the 1 or 2 star range. What really caught my attention was when users began to call it MacVista – Vista having been the proverbial straw that sent me to Apple in the first place.
Even some AppleCare and Genius Bar techs agree – this OS is a PITA – and I don't mean Greek flatbread. Apparently, it won't work with anything except the latest 60-bit versions of any software. Got something 32-bit – or more than a year old? Tough. I even had one Apple rep tell me that flat out, saying, "Well, you were going to have to update your software sooner or later anyway, so why not now?"
Mostly because I prefer picking my own timetable for things that are going to cost me thousands of dollars and take days or weeks to install and learn (even programs you've used for years are going to have major changes running 64-bit on Lion, even if you were running them 64-bit on Snow Leopard).
I wanted to get the Win7 vc off my iMac, moving Windows programs I must have, but have no Mac version, to a new Win7 desktop I have installed next to my iMac (something I swore I would never, ever do again). Now I can't even trust my "old" Mac software will work.
So I have come up with a typical PC-user solution – not one I like, but one I hope will work: Cut my 1TB drive in half, with one partition retaining Snow Leopard and my current configuration as is; in the other, Lion and whatever programs specific to it I want to try, one at a time, on my own timetable – beginning, alas, with Parallels 7, which I bought before discovering it really only works with Lion.
This would, of course, be a dual-boot configuration, which means I can't cut and paste between the Lion and Snow Leopard partitions. Enter Drop Box, which will keep all files from both OS drives current online – and on the rest of my network – in real time.
Not the most elegant solution in the world, but I think – hope – pray – it will work. I'll let you know – and I hope anyone with a better solution will share, as well.

Not sure who you have been talking with the past couple of years, but the "Lion will have a Windows emulator" rumor was one of the most common I encountered after making the move from PC to Mac. And, no, it had nothing to do with Boot Camp.
I brought my dual boot idea here to both offer it up as a possibility to others and to seek advice/response from those  who may already have tried it. As someone who has been working with computers since 1967 (when the computer was the building), wrote a bi-weekly hardware/software review column for regional and national magazines for 25 years and built three PCs from scratch - and still do a lot of writing about military computers - I consider myself to be relatively well-versed overall, but still new and relatively ignorant about Macs.
Yes, those who post to forums and blogs tend to be those with problems, which skews the impression to the negative. And the vast majority of problems they raise are what we used to call "operator error" at UPI (back when there really was a UPI). But the problems are real for them and they usually come to places such as this for help.
Every user, every configuration, is different. It turns out a lot of my problems were due to a slowly dying iMac hard drive, which was replaced a few days ago. But I have to question your apparent attitude (and by "your", I refer not just to Lupunus) that all - or at least the vast majority - of problems people have with Lion are operator errors.
Why? Because every AppleCare tech with whom I have spoken - and every Genius Bar tech, for that matter - agrees there are serious compatibility problems and those switching to Lion should only do so if they, 1) have another computer on which to do important work and 2) are ready, willing and able to spend a lot of money on new versions of software they already have - and lose forever some programs, even those specific to previous versions of the Mac OS.
As noted, I'm still new to Mac and still shaking off a quarter century-plus of PC. But, contrary to what I had expected, I am now a solid Mac supporter, from the overall quality and reliability of the hardware - and software - to, especially, the incredible level of support Apple provides (without charging you a king's ransom for the privilege). That does not mean Apple is perfect nor Lion is without problems, which Apple seems to be working hard to fix, whether internally or in concert with third party providers, as appropriate.
But I will be exceedingly disappointed if user forums such as this one reject or belittle any problem raised - even if asking about a rumor or some misinformation picked up elsewhere - by any other Mac user at any level of experience. It's not a question of people being thin-skinned - or stupid - but of those with more knowledge and experience sharing it with grace and an always helping hand.
    End of rant.
First report on attempt to do a dual boot install of Lion on an i5 iMac already running Snow Leopard: Even with a senior AppleCare tech on the phone (his choice, as it was his first attempt at this, as well), there have been unexpected glitches, which we worked around.
Now on to Phase 2 - Lion workshop and One-to-One sessions at the Apple Store this week to learn as much as I can and ask a lot of "stupid" questions, experimenting with all that at home (while using the Snow Leopard partition for work), installing necessary software, one at a time (including Parallels 7), etc. If anyone is interested, I will report back (much shorter) from time to time on the results.
    Cheers,
       J.R.

  • HT6065 This update did NOT fix the GMail issue!!!!!!!!

Am I the only one who is still have GMail issues using the Smart Mailbox? I can't retrieve any of my emails on my GMail accounts let alone delete add and delete the account.

I've been having this problem for a while myself, ever since after the first Mail update. Today's OS update didn't help either, and I just submitted Feedback to Apple, for the second time, having done it a few weeks ago to.
I tried deleting the GMail accounts and recreating them, both from within Mail and then within the System Preferences panel. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason. After initially opening Mail, it works fine and retrieves messages for a while, and then ... it doesn't. Choosing "Get Mail" won't retrieve any email, but choosing "Synchronize All Accounts" does. Also, if I perform any action beyond simply reading an email, it will retrieve the email from that mailbox. That is, if I reply to or delete a message, it retrieves any messages at that time too.
It's REALLY annoying that two updates later, something which seems like it should be relatively simple still doens't work.

  • Library update went flawlessly, but working inside AP3 is a pain. Ideas?

    Dear all,
I don't have the intention of re-posting the problems several people already have described in these forums, but I feel my problem with Aperture 3 is different than the ones I have read about:
Firstly, I imported and updated my AP2 library, and all went well. I then imported my entire iPhoto library, and this also worked flawlessly. Faces and everything turned on, all the processing was finished overnight. 25000 photos, ~90gigs.
However, when I now try to work in Aperture 3, everything takes a LOT of time, and generally renders the app useless. Moving photos around, making adjustments, using Faces - it's all in turtle's pace.
I have done the consistency check, repaired and rebuilt the library, but it is still very, very slow. Everything is working per se, it's just that it's so slow...
Do anyone have any ideas what I can do to make it snappier?
I know my system is not the most up-to-date, but AP2 ran a lot faster than AP3 has ever done until now.
    Would greatly appreciate answers

I had the same problem after upgrading my library.
Turns out the problem was with aperture 3 accessing the previews/thumbnails. To fix the problem I had to Force rebuild all the thumbnails by highlighting affected thumbnails and choosing "Photos->Generate thumbnails".
For my aperture 2 books, I had to force a rebuild of the previews doing the same thing.
I also trashed my aperture preferences file in /users/Home folder/Library/Preferences/com.appple.aperture.plist. and reset my preferences in aperture 3.
Once I did those steps, my library loads like a banshee!

  • Imac - dvi to hdmi.  It works great, but I have one problem with blue flicker on my imac

Yesterday I bought a dvi to hdmi connector from Apple store, and successfully connected my iMac (10.6.8) to an LG 50" monitor.
It works great with one problem.  My imac flickers blue every 2 secs when TV is on but set to other inputs.
We use the TV for other things (TiVo, DVD) as they are HDMI1, HDMI2 and the iMac is HDMI3.
I tried several things, and each worked with Audio and Video.   I currently have it setup as seperate screens instead of duplicating the screens, but each worked fine.  And each had the same problem below.
The problem comes if I am on the iMac and then turn on the TV to watch something.  As soon as I do, my iMac display starts flickering blue every 2-3 seconds as it is obviously talking to the LG TV.  As soon as I set the TV to HDMI3 everything works.  If I turn the TV off, everything works.
I don't want to have to connect the cable every time I want I want to project to the TV (although I guess I can live w/ that).  Is there a way to have this setup correctly?
thanks for any help in advance.

As an update, after 2 weeks of tinkering with this setup, the iMac is usually able to settle down after about 20 seconds of flittering.  And, if it does happen where the iMac stays blue screen, I can switch the TV to show the HDMI input from the computer, which works, and if I want, switch it back.
So, all in all, it works very well.  I just needed some more patience.

I receive a massage that a new version of ITunes was available (11.1.4). I proceeded to update, the download went ok but when installing the Message “Service ’Apple Mobile Device’ failed to start, verify that you have sufficient Privileges to start system Services”
On pressing retry I got the same message.
On pressing Ignore, I got the message “ITunes was not installed correctly, please reinstall ITunes – Error 7 – (windows error 126)
I reinstalled with the same error messages and the same results.
I uninstalled existing and reinstalled from scratch and the same error messages again.
I try to repair and at the end it said it had installed correctly – but when it tried to start I got the message “This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem” I now get the same message when I first start the computer but when I press ok I receive ““ITunes was not installed correctly; please reinstall ITunes – Error 7 – (windows error 126)” again.
It appears the update has not only corrupted the operating system (Xp Pro SP3) of my computer but I have no backups to my IPhone, my wife’s IPhone or the three others phones that use my computer.
I hope you can advise me how to recover my backups

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • I have iphone 4g and have updated to ios6 an updated itunes 2, but while sync itunes freezes and iphone is not sybc fully, finally i have to disconnect my iphone for itunes to shunt down. Can some one please tell why this is happening?

I have iphone 4g and have updated to ios6 an updated itunes 2, but while sync itunes freezes and iphone is not sybc fully, finally i have to disconnect my iphone for itunes to shunt down. Can some one please tell why this is happening?

I am having this problem.  At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2.  I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps.  I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them.  The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage.  It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup.  With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up.  The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete.  This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

  • I have three iPhone 4 models purchased in late 2010 that all share the same iTunes account (apps, music, etc), but I can only update the software on one of the three iPhones. What is the best solution to manage these devices for software updates, apps?

I have three iPhone 4 models purchased in late 2010 (for my family) that all share the same iTunes account for access to apps and music, but each phone/user still has his/her custom contact list, email accts, and select lists of apps and music from the one iTunes acct library.  The problem is I can only update the software on one of the three iPhones – the primary phone I used to setup the iTunes acct. What is the best solution to manage these devices for software updates, apps? This is probably a common problem with families wanting to share apps and music without realizing the issues created by this approach. As it stands today... the first (primary) iPhone associated with the iTune acct has been updated with the latest software version 5.1.1 and sync'd up with all the apps, music, etc from the one iTune acct, while the other two iPhones are still running on the original software version 4.0.2 and are experiencing problems now. I was advised by AT&T back in January that it would be necessary to setup separate iTunes accts for the second and third iPhones in order to receive system updates. The problem would be how to keep all the apps, etc from being deleted off the second and third phones that were originally loaded from the one iTunes acct. Since this AT&T advice was prior to iCloud coming out, would iCloud be a better solution or at least part of the solution? I really don't yet understand how iCloud works. Hopefully, someone out there can help me??  Please?

    Hi there
I think in this case, you may be best to speak with Microsoft about this, as it does seem like an issue with Office, and not your Mac.
Follow this link, to find your local Microsoft Support contact number.
Or perhaps create a new topic in the Microsoft Support Communities

    Hi userwhat,
Your personal data should have been saved, and you can try to follow these steps to fix your problem.
*First, you should report that to the developer of the add-on the troubles that you are experiencing.
    * Then, you can try [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/ The Add-on Compatibility Reporter], which allows you to use add-ons that haven't yet been explicitly updated to work with Firefox 5, and lets you report the results of compatibility.
    * For add-ons that do not work with The Add-on Compatibility Reporter, you can still downgrade to the previously maintained version, which is Firefox 3.6 that you can download here: [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]
