1 Copy/Computer

I notice that Final Cut Express won't install on my second iMac on my home network. I wouldn't really use that computer, but the principle of this thing sort of bugs me. These are the same sort of tactics that Microsoft uses.
Apple has dropped the price of FCE because they messed up iMovie big time, and drove all the regular users, but then they play hardball again with the 1 install/home network rule. I'm really disappointed to see Apple stoop to these Microsoft tactics.

After typing in my serial number (very long), it says that this program has already been installed on a computer on my home network with the identical number, so it refuses to install. They want me to buy an extra copy, just for my backup computer. That will never happen.

  • Copying Computer to Computer

I need to make some spac on my laptop, so I followed the steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751
It was important to me to not only move my files but also have a reliable backup on an external drve. Problem is, at the VERY last step I'm getting no response. When I hold shift and open itunes, I go through the steps to select the itunes library that hides in the itunes folder but nothing happens......
The file I select is essentially /....../my music/itunes/itunes library.itl. Am I missing something here? Why would this not be working? Is there another way to make this work? It's extremely frustrating because this is the very last step in the process. Any help appreciated.....
I am moving from a MAC to a Windows PC if that matters....

    Usually I just use dropbox.

  • How can I transfer my iphone to a new computer without losing my apps

    Hi,
    so here's my story:
I share a computer with another family member (computer 1) and we each have our own iphones with different apple ID's on computer 1.  I recently got a new computer though and downloaded itunes onto it (computer 2). I've already started adding music to computer 2 and now I want to move my iphone to computer 2. How can I do that so that I do not lose all my apps? I guess it would be okay to lose the pictures and music because I already have a way to recover those.  But I wouldn't mind if anyone has a way to salvage everything. Also, it should be noted that I do not prefer to keep computer 1's library.
Second question: If I were to copy computer 1's library to computer 2, would I be able to keep the existing music from computer 2, or would it just replace the whole library with the copy of computer 1's?
Third question: Computer 2 claims that there is now a backup of my iphone on it, but still won't let me sync the phone. If I were to go ahead and say, "yes, sync the phone and erase the content," would computer 2 allow me to restore the phone or not? (because it's still synced to computer 1)
    Thanks in advance everyone!
    Sincerely, the dark night

  • Three copies ARD3, need way to share computer lists

I know the questions has been asked, and answered. I did a search and tried every solution I could find on this forum. But nothing works.
We have 3 copies of ARD3 deployed in one shop. One Task Server (running on our OD replica server), and two ADMIN workstations.
We desperately need to be able to share computer lists!
    I have tried copying over:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist
    (and)
    /Library/Application\ Support/Remote\ Desktop
...but while our Unix command (and other) templates, labels, and history lists make it over...our computer lists do not. This is a HUGE problem as we try to work as a team in large environments.
We have spent $1500 on ARD 2.2, and ANOTHER $1500 on ARD 3.2 and are still not able to sync lists. ARD is great stuff, but we need guidance (a step by step procedure) for copying computer lists from one computer to another.
    Thanks,
    Don

Yes, it used to work...but for some reason it doesn't anymore. Not sure why. All the other settings come over (Unix templates, Reports templates, Labels, etc.) but the computer list shows up blank. When I copy over the plist file, I'm prompted for a password...none work, so I have to reset...I wonder if that's causing it?
    Thanks,
    Don

  • Unattended file strange behaviour (copy default profile)

I created unattended file that copy admin profile to default profile. Created virtual machine do the sysprep by typine sysprep /oobe /generalize /unatted:c:\unattend.xml. After that power it on to test it (passed some wizards) and log in
with some new local user I created localy with wizard. After that I added that machine to domain and log in with some domain users and got default profile I created. Everything is ok.
Than I tried to put  syspred .wim file  and that unattend file to sccm task sequence and when deployment finished I must use wizard to finish installation , and the machine is not joined to domain (task sequence do it previously without unattend
file and without any wizard)... I don't now what the problem is. Thank for your help...
    sasa

When I syspreped with unattend file (without sccm) everything works fine, I tried to install windows with this wim file (without sccm) works perfectly. it retains my customization of administrator profile as expected. Then I copy wim to sccm I tried to use
it in task sequence without unattend file (thought it would have been enought to use unattend with sysprep before). But when I deploy that wim with sccm without unattend , my default profiled is not copied, computer is joined to domain but my customization
not retained. Than I supposed I need to put the same unattend file in task sequence also when deploying wim file, but as I described it doesn't work that way.  No error in NetSetup.log..

  • Scan dialogue wont open in windows 7 what is the issue?

i am pulling my hair out on this one. Ive just purchased a new Officejet 8600 pro plus and the scan dialogue refuses to open. Ive tried all the usual things, even reinstalled the OS and it still doesnt work.
Why does HP package faulty software with new products, surely they would test this across a broad list of platforms before releasing it.

    Hi,
Here is the few checks to know exact problem
    1. Did you try to scan from Microsoft Paint program. (Launch paint ->File->From Scanner or Cammera and chose the printer to scan)
    2. Also try webscan. Go to your browser, enter the IP address of the printer into the address bar. Now go to scan tab and do the scan.
If above works, then it is something to do with your PC firewall or antivirus. You may try to stop those and do following steps.

  • Macbook Air to iMac

I have a late 2010 Macbook Air (no dvd slot) and just purchased a new iMac. How do I migrate my info from the laptop to the desktop. Thanks.

One of the best ways is to use Time Machine. You back-up your computer using Time Machine onto an external drive, then hook up that drive to the iMac and use Migration Assistant to transfer that copied computer onto the iMac. Of course, if you haven't already backed up what you have on an external drive using Time Machine, this method will require a few hours. Migration Assistant, however, is very fast and reliable when it copies from a Time Machine back-up.
If you have been using Time Machine to copy your computer onto an external hard disk, just hook up that disk to the iMac and use Migration Assistant. If you haven't done that, try wirelessly or ethernet first--but keep the Time Machine option in mind just in case.

  • Where in the PDF file are the AcroForm calculated fields stored??

I have been able to copy computed text fields from one document to another. They are displayed in the "Text Field Properties" dialog of the target document, but they do no perform the prescribed sum. I am obvioulsy doing a partial copy.
To be sure, I am referring to the "Value is the sum (+) of the following fields" attribute.
    TIA,
    -Ramon

    Simplified field notation:
    Limited description in Acrobat help.
Calculate tab for form field properties
    Some things I have found:
Filed name must start with an alphabetic character
Spaces or dots in name must be preceded by JS escape character
    Only simple arithmetic operations allowed
    No flow control
    No properties
    No methods
    No functions
    Parenthesis control order of operations
    Can enter numeric constants
Can not use dates or times in calculations
This feature works by using JS to parse the entered string and process the field values and constants.

  • UAC is blocking me from running anything, even explorer.exe. User Profile or permissions suspected

    Help Please!
Win7 Pro installation on Lenovo laptop.  Currently I can log in to a migrated user account (NewUser) but nothing will start as UAC is blocking access even to basic items like Explorer.exe.  The NewUser account is an admin account.
I have checked permissions on C: Drive and files.  Drives and system files have Users, Admin and System access. NewUser account in c:\users\NewUser is owned by NewUser and NewUser has full control of all subfolders and items.
If I turn UAC  _OFF_  (and reboot) I can run and execute things pretty normally but this is not desired.  I have a backup Admin account on the machine so things are not tragic.
    History:
I switched the Laptop from being a Domain to a Local system (my small company got rid of their domain and file server and moved to the "cloud" but IT who did migration left everone using cached domain passwords to login, and other group policy network
items were triggering errors so I wanted to get rid of the domain.
This blew away my Domain\OldUser account (I expected it to migrate it... silly me).  So I created a new Local Admin account (NewUser) and migrated the files over following this: TechNet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/24342.user-account-migration-in-windows.aspx
The new account has the current problem even after checking all ownerships and permissions.  Before changing and updating Junction Points, and c:/users/NewUser/... folder permissions the NewUser account would not even log in (upon login attempt it immediately
    logged out).
I read more threads and tried turning UAC off. Execution ability returned but my Start Menu, Task Bar, and desktop background did not migrate (if they did they are not accessable even with UAC off, unsure how to verify)
I have not changed Group Policies or anything else so there could be a problem with Win7 replacing OldUser with SYSTEM in groups and permissions.  I am not familiar with groups etc.   System obviously had a Domain group, and there are two
    separate Local workgroups.
Any suggestions on how I might continue to resolve this issue appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for responding Michael,
I used a standard GUI box to make machine Local vs. Domain. I believe it was under System Properies\Computer Name\.  Not sure if I used the "Wizard" or "Change" option as now the computer is not on a domain and the option to make the computer a Local
System is no longer displayed but was when I clicked on it...
No Restore points seem to be available although I believe one was created only a day or two before the change in OldUser account.
Problem persists if UAC is on.  I have searched and read a lot but nothing has helped.  Seems to be some type of basic permissions issue with my NewUser Account.  I have added all group policies that were in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group
Policy\OldUserSID to NewUserSID group policy key just in case (no change to operation).
    Symptoms:
    Selecting any of;
    Username
    Documents
    Pictures
    Music
    Computer
    or
    Devices and Printers
gives dialog box with explorer.exe in upper left and message
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." error message.
    Selecting Control Panel
gives box with "::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}" in upper left and same error message.
    Selecting Default Programs
"::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\8\::{17CD9488-1228-4B2F-88CE-4298E93E..." in Upper left and same error message.
    Help and Support
    Doesn't seem to do anything
If I right click on "Computer" in start menu and select "open" same error message.
If I right click and copy "Computer" to desktop the desktop icon will not launch Computer, but if I right click on desktop Computer Icon and select "Open" it opens!! (Someone else had this problem and posted that work around.) Their solution was to review the
registry for instances of the OldUser Domain SID and replace with NewUser Local SID.  I have done this where it made sense but no change.
If I click on a Taskbar explorer.exe icon I get dialog box with Server execution failed error message.
Something in the UAC security system is not setup correctly for the NewUser account access Privileges to allow access permissions for Start Menu selected items, or any Icons in the system or desktop to run.
I have ensured NewUser has admin rights to all folders in c:\Users\NewUser and subfolders using icacls cmd line.
I have ensured standard compatibility Junctions are correct for NewUser (they initially pointed to the wrong user folder)
Any thing I should check for to further debug this?

  • How can i copy apps from one computer to another?

how can i copy apps from one computer to another?

You don't mention which operating system you have so it's difficult to provide an answer since the mac and Windows stores the files differently.
The other thing you can do is just re-download the apps from the iTunes Store. Just login to the iTunes Store on the other computer using the same Apple ID. On the right-hand side of the iTunes Store page you will see a 'Purchased' link. Clicking on that will take you to a page that will list your past purchases which you can re-download to the new computer.

  • Camera roll is no longer being copied to my computer.

Up until last week, my computer would copy my iPhones camera roll when I plugged in my phone to my computer using the USB cord. My computer used to see my phone as apple iPhone in "my computer". I haven't changed any settings in autoplay. I uninstalled iTunes and everything associated with it, but my computer still doesn't copy my camera roll nor does my computer see my apple iPhone. ITunes syncs my phone just fine, but I'd like to get my photos off my phone without having to delete every picture. Any suggestions would be helpful thanks!

This has nothing to do with iTunes. iTunes is not involved with the importing of photos from your iPhone's Camera Roll.
Have you tried using the Windows scanner and camera wizard?
When there are photos in your iPhone's camera roll, it should be detected as a digital camera also when connected to your computer.
What do you use on your computer for importing photos from any other digital camera?

  • I had my computer replaced but copied my hard drive and now I can't access my firefox bookmarks, how can I go and extract the bookmarks from my copied harddrive?

My HP Touchsmart was sent back in to HP for repairs under warranty. I was advised to make a copy of my harddrive because they may erase my hard drive, which they did, if the problem had to do with a faulty motherboard, which it was. They replaced my HD with a brand new one and now I DO NOT have any of my data installed in the new computer. Luckily I still have an exact replicate of my hard drive on a seperate external HD. However, when I looked in the bookmark.html under the firefox folder, the bookmarks were all blank and none of my bookmarks were there. I checked the properties tabe and it was dated sometime in March of 2011, earlier this year. I have a lot of stuff I wish to pull out from. The Firefox version I was using was the 3.6.16 and the file version was 1.9.2.4095, my OS was use Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I would like to be able to access it again. Please help. Just a heads up but I'm taking a guess you guys already know, that the information under troubleshooting information is of my current computer and not the same as the one that is copied in my hard drive.

Sorry, I don't find a support article for that type of situation. Read these two articles for help, as bookmarks.html isn't the file type you should be looking for.

  • Can I copy my new laptop (system an all) onto my old computer?

Hi, I recently bought a Macbook Pro 15" Retina display, but doesn't have ethernet or firewire ports and it won't read my old ipod as well as a LOT of my applications. Fortunately I still have my old Macbook Pro. Unfortunately in February, by error I changed the permissions of ALL the files on my old computer to read & write (I had only meant to do that with Microsoft Word files). After I did that, it would stick on the apple icon when I switched the computer on. I tried Disk Warrior and fsck in Safe Boot mode but it didn't help. I bought a new computer and was able to copy all my files from an old backup drive. My old computer and my new one won't communicate as the old one does not have thunderbolt, only firewire. I think the only option to get my old computer to start again is to erase the disk and somehow "migrate" using the files on my new computer, from Time Capsule, or from my old backup. I'm afraid of what will happen either way. My old computer used Mac OSX 10.7.8 and my new one uses 10.8.4. My old computer was an Intel-based Power PC. The Time Capsule files are from my new computer, with the new system. I'm not sure I will be able to "migrate" from new to old. Maybe its better that I stick to the old backup drive option. How do I go about doing any of this if won't even turn on? It won't turn on from the backup drive either, tried that. Would I have to erase the disk by connecting it somehow to my new computer, buying some kind of firewire to thunderbolt adapter, and then "migrating from" either my new comp or old backup? I don't have any system disks. My new computer came with it installed and I lost the disks of my old one. Any advice or suggestions as to how I can go about doing this? Thanks!

Let's take this step by step. Your first problem as you say is "How do I go about doing any of this if won't even turn on?"
You have two options. You can buy a copy of a OS DVD that will work on your MBP. And use that disk to boot the MBP, repair / erase the drive.
Or you can take the hard drive out of the MBP, install it in an external enclosure / caddy and connect it via usb to the new computer. (External enclosure are readily available, e.g. through Amazon.) Once that is done, you can move data back and forth between the new Mac and the old drive. Finallly you can replace the drive in the MBP.
Be aware however the MBP may not boot from the OS that is on the new computer.
