(1) files, how to delete them

I have several files like "001.jpg" and "001 (1).jpg". I want to get rid of the (1) files, but I do not know how to do it, except by marking each one of them naually. I tried to use Terminal to issue an rm command, but I can't figure out how to do it. For example this command:
ls -l *\ \(1\)
says that no * (1) file exists. Of course the files are there, I can see them.
Anyone knows how to delete these?

Well, I don't know that ls will take anything but a folder path... but I honestly have never tried giving it a list of files. The rm command should take similar parameters to mv, though I prefer using mv since I can double-check the results before anything gets deleted.
However, the main problem with what you were trying before was the pattern you were using:
*\ \(1\)
This pattern matches only files ending in a space followed by "(1)". The examples you gave ended in ".jpg", so they would not match.

If you have a Mac with iPhoto, plug the iPhone in and open iPhoto. Choose to import the photos. Once they have been imported, there should be an option to "Remove Imported Photos from Device". Choose this.

There is a similar setting for Videos on that Settings screen, so if you leave that 'on' you may have similar happening in the Videos app

This may be related to a new feature embedded in iOS7 that shows all purchased music by default. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music. See if the issue ceases once the feature has been disabled. This information is located on page 63 of the user guide below.

Once an item enters the download queue, the user cannot remove it. Either let it complete the download (easiest) or contact the iTunes Store customer support department through the Contact page and ask them if they'll remove the item(s) from your queue for you.

I just found out that I am having the same problem!! It is driving me nuts. Now I know why I am running out of space on my iPhone. It's ghosting the others songs, until you see them when you go to sync. Hopefully, someone has an answer. I have gone through every HELP subject and discussion board I could find on the situation.

Address Book freezing with Smart Groups - how to delete them?

Hi guys,
I made some Smart Groups in AB to get ready for iPhone 3G, and one of them has another smart group as a criterion – Address Book really doesn't like this, and freezes every time I try to click on that group. That's fine, I just want to delete, but you have to actually have a group selected in Address Book to get the contextual delete menu, and of course AB freezes before I can get there.
My question: is there a .plist somewhere I can edit to clear out these two groups, or any other ideas on how to delete these two groups that crash Address Book? Thanks!

quit mail and address book and go to the directory homedirectory/Library/Application support/Address Book.
delete the file AddressBook-v22.abcddb. then go to the subfolder Metadata and delete the group cards for the smart groups in question. To quickly find them search for "groups" in that folder. when you start address book, those smart groups should be gone.

Hi, did you install the themes yourself? or are they the default themes that come with the phone ? I f they are the original themes , you can't delete them and a soft reset won't work as it leaves the phone in out of the box condition (so the stuff it arrived with will still be there ).If you installed the themes then you should be able to remove via the phones file manager.

Synced photos can't be deleted directly on the device - instead they are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from on your computer and then re-syncing.

AdobeFnt.db and FntNames.db files - don't delete them!

Some folks will tell you to delete the Adobe font cache files to attempt to fix certain problems. The font cache files are AdobeFnt*.lst files.
Two files ending in ".db" are not caches, are not subject to any kind of corruption that we know of, and should not be deleted. AdobeFnt.db and and FntNames.db are both static database files used by InDesign. Deleting them can cause problems.
"FntNames.db" is a database of menu name information used to give nice, long, friendly and typographically accurate menu names for old Adobe Type 1 fonts when displayed in modern Adobe applications. It is a plain text file, so it's possible for users to edit it - though this is not recommended.
Assuming that deleting it doesn't cause any problems launching InDesign, it will certainly cause a change in menu name handling, resulting in the font references in future documents (for the given list of Adobe Type 1 fonts) being inconsistent with everybody else, and even with your own past documents.
"AdobeFnt.db" is another static database file, this one for font and glyph metrics for font substitution of some common old Type 1 fonts when using Adobe Sans and Adobe Serif. Mostly it's used by Acrobat and Reader, but it can be used by other Adobe applications too.
Although "AdobeFnt.db" is less critical than "FntNames.db", deleting it certainly won't help anything either, as it is not a cache file.

Searching for AdobeFnt.db finds an installer log for Illustrator CS from 2003, which mentions it but does not find the file. Following the path from the installer log though finds it in Library/Application Support/Adobe/Type Spt and it is last updated in March 2005. Does that mean that CS2 apps do not use it at all?
The FntNames.db seems to be from March 2005 and is mentioned in the installer logs for both Indesign CS, Illustrator CS and GoLive CS, but not for anything else. Does that also mean it is not used by CS2 apps?
Or does it mean it only looks in certain folders for certain fonts and not everywhere for all fonts?
I am in the habit of always removing the Adobe fonts from the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts folder and move them to the Library/Fonts instead as that is a more convenient place to store them. That's where I keep my regularly used fonts. The rest (those just occasionally used) are handled by Suitecase (note: have never had any font problems whatsoever over the years).
Does that influence the dbs? Or are the dbs invisible nowadays or since CS2? Situation is the same on both my Intel iMac and my PB G4, both with OSX 10.4.8.

ITunes Imported Songs that have no Original Files, How to delete easily?

I just reinstalled iTunes on my computer and somehow it imported about 5000 songs that I didn't know I had. The problem is when you click on these songs, they can't play because iTunes can't find th Source file.
Is there an easy way to delete all these songs or do I have to locate each one manually and delete them?

Here ya go!
- select the Library icon in iTunes
- select all songs in the track listing
- Get Info
- change BPM to 99 (assuming you don't use that field for anything else)
- wait for that to finish - it will take a while
- after it's done, sort the display by BPM (ctrl-j & click BPM if it's not a column on your display)
All the "!" files, which will not accept the BPM change, are now grouped together for easy deletion! Take the BPM 99 out afterwards in case you need to do this again in the future.
