1 set of speakers and 1 set of headphones into a soundblast

Hope I'm posting on the right board. I've done a fair bit of trawling to try and find the answer to this question but so far, no success. I'm looking at buying either an audigy 2 ZS platinum or x-fi extreme music. The main thing that will be of use to me is to be able to plug in a set of speakers and a pair of headphones at the same time - but (and forgive me if I use the wrong technical terms) I think I need the speakers to play one channel and the headphones another. i.e. I want to be able to hear 2 different things. It's essentially to use with some virtual dj software. Due to my lack of technical knowledge, I'm unclear as to whether I can do this. Any advice gladly accepted. Finally, as if all that wasn't enough, if anyone has any views on which of those two cards is the best for music that would be welcomed too. Thanks?FS

X-Fi for music, games and etc. However, I don't understand what you wanted to do, by channels? you mean one channel for headphones and one channel for speakers? You can certainly listen to headphones or speakers with any soundcards.

  • No sound through speakers, and LOUD hissing through headphones - Inspiron 3537

    Hi,
So yesterday the sound on my laptop's internal speakers stopped working, and when I plug the headphones in there is a loud hissing noise - way too loud to be able to stand when trying to listen to something, though I can hear the audio as well.  The volume of the hissing is not affected by the volume control on the laptop but the actual audio can be made louder.  Have also tried running the audio test in the EPSA diagnostic, and I cannot hear anything.  Anyone have any ideas?
I have a Dell Inspiron I5, model 3537.  Have had it less than 18 months so if it is a hardware failure I am extremely disappointed in the manufacturing quality.  Had my previous Philips laptop for six years and never had a problem like this!

Hello. Failure to hear tones through the speakers during the ePSA audio quick test means that the speakers have either become disconnected or failed. I don't know if you would want to take the laptop apart to check the connection, but if so there is a manual available with complete disassembly instructions.
Harder to account for the loud hissing. If you currently have the Realtek audio driver installed, switch over to the Windows native driver and see if it makes a difference.
    1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the Windows search box).
    2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".
    3. Select to "Update Driver Software".
    4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
    5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".
    6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.
    7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio Device" (the native driver).
    8. Click "Next".
    9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver).
    10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.
[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]

  • X-Fi: Send same audio to both Speakers and SPDIF?

I'm using an SB X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro. Is there a way I can set it to send the same audio to both the analog (speakers) and optical/SPDIF outputs? I've got standard desktop computer speakers and a set of wireless surround-sound headphones that have an Optical input, and I'd like to be able to have them both plugged into their respecti've rear-panel jacks, but be able to switch between them by simply turning off the speakers and turning on the headphones, or vice-versa -- WITHOUT needing any other software.
It was literally that simple on my old sound card, a 0-year-old (or thereabouts) SB Audigy Gamer. But doing the same thing on the X-Fi involves either plugging the speakers into the extra-headphones output on the transmitter for my wireless headphones, or using another piece of software called "Virtual Audio Cable" and a program it comes with to split the audio signal to the two playback devices -- which leaves me with another two windows that I have to leave open.
This is rather annoying. If a decade-old Audigy -series card could do it, the X-Fi should have no problem. Why is this not an option?
    For reference:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    AMD Phenom X4 940 (3.0GHz quad-core)
    8GB RAM

I am having the same isue with my [url="http://www.amphony.com" title="Wireless Headphones">wireless headphones[/url] with optical input. Any solutions?

  • How do I set upmy Imac to allow using both my computer speakers and a Bose SoundLink system as outputs at the same time.  I can use one or the other, but not both.

how do I set up my Imac to allow using both my computer speakers and a Bose SoundLink system as outputs at the same time.  I can use one or the other, but not both.  From systems Preferences I must select one or the other.  I want both to work all the time.

    Hi,
I would recommend you to use 0FI_AP_4 rather using both, particularly for many reasons -
    1. DS: 0FI_AP_4  replaces DataSource 0FI_AP_3 and still uses the same extraction structure. For more details refer to the OSS note 410797.
    2. You can run the 0FI_AP_4 independent of any other FI datasources like 0FI_AR_4 and 0FI_GL_4 or even 0FI_GL_14. For more details refer to the OSS note: 551044.
    3. Map the 0FI_AP_4 to DSO: 0FIAP_O03 (or create a Z one as per your requirement).
    4. Load the same to a InfoCube (0FIAP_C03).
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • I have a macbook pro4.1 and the sound chip in it failed. My speakers and microphone no longer work. Does anyone know of an external speaker and microphone set that plugs into the USB port so I can continue to use both of these functions?

I have a macbook pro4.1 and the sound chip in it failed. My speakers and microphone no longer work. Does anyone know of an external speaker and microphone set that plugs into the USB port so I can continue to use both of these functions and not have to pay to have the entire main board replaced. Preferably something under $100.

I don't think you're likely to find a set of external speakers that come with a microphone and plug directly into a USB port. There are USB audio cards that look like tiny flash drives but have microphone and headphone ports in them, to which you can connect a typical two-plug Windows PC headset with a microphone, or else you can connect external speakers and a stand-alone microphone. Those adapters typically cost under $10. I don't know anything about the quality of sound that can be expected from them.
I have a Griffin iMic, which is much the same idea but larger, a bit more expensive (retail~$40), and perhaps delivers somewhat better sound quality (I hope so, but I don't know because I've never had occasion to try one of the little ones).

  • Logitech Z506 5.1 Speakers and Apple TV - how to set up?

    Hi,
As of now, to watch movies I've got an old Mac Mini conntected via VGA to an HP screen and a 2.1 Logitech speaker system plugged into the Mini. For listening to music, I simply plug the speakers into my iPhone or Mac.
Now that my 2.1 speakers are broken, I was thinking about buying the Logitech Z506 5.1 speakers and an Apple TV so I could stream music and video from my iOS and OS X devices and use my HP screen in combination with the Logitech speakers.
There are two basic problems for this set up to work:
    1. The Apple TV doesn't seem to have a connector that would allow me to directly plug in the Logitech Z506 speakers.
    2. My HP screen does have subpar speakers built-in and thus no connectors for external speakers – therefor, I can't use the screen as an intermediate between the Apple TV and the Logitech Z506 speakers.
How would I have to set up the Apple TV, the Logtiech Z506 speakers and my HP screen to be able to have 5.1 sound for watching movies and listenting to music?
Here's a link to the Logitech speakers I'm refering to, http://www.logitech.com/product/surround-sound-speakers-z506
Please let me know if you need any additional information.
    best, Ian

    Ian,
You'll need a digtial to analog converter to connect your digital Apple TV to your analog Z-506 speakers.
One like this will output 5.1 sound for you.
    http://www.amazon.com/Panlong-Audio-Digital-Decoder-Converter/dp/B00AMC2J1Y
The Apple TV connects via TOSLINK/optical cable to one side, and you connect your speaker's mini-jacks to the blue mini ports (each port handles 2 channels).
I have the same issue connecting my digital out TV to analog computer speakers.

If you want TRUE 7. (i.e front centre, front L + R, rear L + R , side L + R )then I doubt your sub-woofer has the correct channel outputs to plug speakers in correctly (5. systems do not have side channels )
If you just want 7 speakers ,use 2 RCA splitter's ( A/V Coupler - 2 RCA (female)to RCA (male) )on the two rear channel outputs on the subwoofer.
    This will give you Front Centre , Front L+R , 2 x Rear L , 2 x Rear R = 7 , not TRUE 7. but it will work.
I have done similar with my 6. Creatives ( i.e connected two speakers to my rear centre output channel using an RCA splitter ) to get 7.
    Hope this hel
    ps.
    Cheers,

I just recently upgraded from a 4S to a 5C.  I backloaded the 5 from Itunes and now everytime i plug into itunes, it asks if I want to set up as new or restore from a previous backup.  Why is it doing this.  I did it twice yesterday.....  In addtion, those are the only options I have.  I cannot do anything else unless I choose one of the two.  Zero options.  Phone works fine though.

I figure that either of those options will result in losing all SMS and data created since the last backup. Not a major loss, but ** annoying when nothing has changed and the time it will take to restore.
When was the last time you synced your iPhone with iTunes since the backup is updated as the first step during the sync process?
Is there anyway to recover this WITHOUT having to do a full restore or set up as new?
    In a word, no.
If I do restore or set up as new, how do I know it's not going to do the same thing tomorrow (like a few other forums threads I've read indicate might happen)?
There is no way to know for certain but I've never experienced the same in the first place. I venture to say having to do this is the exception rather than the rule.

  • Trying to Output Sound to Speakers and TV Simultaneously on H8-1360t

    Hi everyone -
I have an HP H8-1360t with an AMD HD 7570 video card, running Windows 7 64-bit.  I have speakers hooked up to the on-board sound via a standard 3.5mm cable.  I run DVI to my monitor and HDMI to my TV.  I am trying to get sound to go to the speakers and the TV simultaneously, without having to keep swapping the default playback device.  I tried the following that I found online:
    Open Sound panel
Select Speakers as the default playback device
    Go to the "Recording" tab
Right click and enable "Show Disabled Devices"
A recording device called "Wave Out Mix", "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix" (this was my case) should appear
Right click on the new device and click "Enable"
Right click on the new device and click "Set as Default Device"
Double click on the new device to open the Properties window
    Go to the "Listen" tab
Click on the "Listen to this device" checkbox
Select your HDMI device from the "Playback through this device" list
This worked the first time I tried it and I was getting audio through both the PC speakers and from the TV.  Since then, it no longer works and I am only get audio via one or the other, depending on what device I select as my default.  It's more of an annoyance than anything else - having to manually switch between output devices every time I want to watch something on my TV instead of my monitor.  I assumed I could get dual audio output and simply not turn on the PC speakers when I wanted to watch something on the TV and it worked the first time!  I don't understand why it is no longer working.  Thoughts?
    TIA!

    Thanks for the reply!
I believe that the answer is answer is yes to both questions - it defintely worked the first time.  I'm not sure if I tried it on the first reboot or not but it did not work the next time I tried it.  As far as what may have changed - I have no clue?!?  I do not see that the 7570 or the Beats audio had any updates.  According to Device Manager, I am running the latest IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver.
i did notice a couple of things tonight.  The video I used as a test the other day, that had audio and video going simultaneously on both displays, is displaying video on both the monitor and TV today but no audio on the TV.  That said, when I open up the Sound control panel, and click on the AMD HDMI Output, right-click, and click "test", I do get test "beeps" through my TV (while the audio from my video is running through my PC speakers).  So, it appears that it is indeed capable of outputting sound to both the PC speakers (via the onboard sound) and the TV (via the HDMI) - just not the same sound anymore!  Another thing I noticed is that when I go to the Recording tab, the Stereo Mix selection is noted as the Default Device, and I can watch the "meter" on the right move up and down in sync with the volume of the video I am playing back - only there is no sound via the TV.
As usual, when I switch to the HDMI Audio Output as the Default Device, the sound plays fine on my TV.
    This is strange...

  • Can I listen to music from my Apple TV to self - powered speakers and watch regular tv at the same time? I don't have a central receiver that splits everything, just the apple tv and the speakers.

Trying to play music from my apple tv directly to speakers and at the same time watch tv. Now I'm not that advanced at technology so I kinda need the easiest way to do this. Now I see that the Apple tv has an optical audio output. Can I set that optical out to self powered speakers and then have regular RCA cables set out from the tv to the same speakers and watch the tv on mute, unless I want to turn it up for a moment. I want to be able to airplAy music through my apple tv but also put a game on at the same time if I have guest. I hope my question was clear enough, but that's the best that I can explain it. Oh by the way, I do not have one of those centrAl hub receiver where all the speakers are plugged into and where you can set different inputs and outputs out of it. Everything would be a direct connection.

yes. u dont need the tv. turn it off.
    1. direct connection (optical or stereo cables) to your amplifier
    2. use mac to play to atv, or iphone/ipod touch to remote control the atv. (wifi)
works as a charm, Ive done this for several years..

  • 2001 Dell w/ Sound Blaster card+strip end speakers and two things I don't know to c

well, I have two devices that a combo CD player/Tape decks/radio tuner/amp; one has misc input, the other doesn't. Both are analog devices, both are old things I bought at a yard sale. I got 6 bookshelf speakers that use pairs of stripped wire as the input hooked up in 2 parallel wired sets of 3 to the CD/Tape/Tuner/Amp thing that has a misc input. Anyway, the one without misc input has a 3 disk CD changer, plus it would give me a way to input tape and radio sounds sources into my computer if I just connected it's audio outputs to the internally located Aux In on my soundblaster card in my computer. But I wonder, what considerations do I have to have? Firstly, is the Aux In on my board analog or digital? I'm assuming if it doesn't say "digital", it's analog; correct?...... secondly, and more importantly; the CD/Tape/Tuner/Amp thing is supposed to be used with 8 ohm speakers and do I have to worry about sending too much current to the soundcard?
specific model of SB card; I'm not sure. It has 2 analog outs, analog in, mic in, digital out and a joystick port; and it came installed on a 200 Dell w/ Win ME
and please, don't try selling me something; I use old crappy hardware and really do not mind doing so.
any help will be appreciated, thanks.

    Aux-In is an analog port (4-pin connector/stereo).
Don't connect powered output (= speaker outputs) into soundcard but, if possible, use some low-power connection like Headphones-Out (or if possible then some line-out port).
