1 yr. anniversary: Wi-Fi busted

So I've had my phone for 1 yr 13 days. About 8-10 days ago, my iPhone (8G) stopped picking up wi-fi signals. Took it into the Apple store genius bar, and they said 1) the wi-fi card must be busted in the phone, 2) my warranty has expired and 3) that it will cost $199 to fix it. So you can guess what the 'suggestion' was from the genius 'upsell' bar...
Anyways. Any thoughts on what to do with my 'old' iPhone. Works like a charm, just no wi-fi. Thanks.

If you can get into an Apple store, and the support folks can see it happen for themselves then they'll hand you a replacement phone. Make sure you sync with iTunes to backup your data before you go in to the store.

Phone with busted screen turns on right after turn...

Hello everyone,
Thought i'd register to lay out a problem i have with my N95 phone. First of all, great phone, ive been using it for years and it still competes with everything out there for me. It did break down occasionally, but nothing i couldn't fix by cleaning the contacts or whatever, i always found a way to get it going again.
Last month somewhere i went for a run, but on my way there the derailleur of my bike (gear shifter thing) snapped off, my wheel locked up, i came tumbling off and i had to fish my beloved N95 out of my pocket in two bits, the screen and the main body. After carrying my bike home i ordered a new flex cable, a new screen and a new body for my N95, build it in with no problem at all (done it 3 times before) and popped in the battery to have a go. That's when it got interesting.
The phone turned on (giving the customary bleep), the keys lit up (although one keyboard led seemed to have broken) but the screen wouldn't turn on. Oh well i thought, let me just buy another screen since this one is obviously DOA. But with the second screen it still wouldn't work, and what are the odds of receiving two DOA parts from different stores? Not very likely.
I started looking for cases similar to mine and i came across tons of topics, they all pointed in the same general direction, format the phone using either the 3 * green button method or calling to #7370# and so on. Would be fine solutions if my screen worked, but since it didn't i was in for a blast. I tried the 3 button method and it seemed to be doing something, but since i couldn't see anything it was a little tricky to tell, but anyway i just assumed it did something. I left for a few days (i'm not one for half measures) hooked to the power and just let it format, or i thought so because i couldn't actually see anything happening because the screen wouldn't come on. After seeing nothing change i just turned it off. But it wouldn't turn off, because immediately after it gave a bleep and turned back on again. When i try to shut it down it happens again, comes back on. Only way to kill the power is to take out the battery, but when i pop the battery back in the same thing happens, the phone turning on after turning it off.
So to recap: phone busted, new flexcable, new screen and new body, after reassembling screen not working and after a seemingly botched attempt at formatting it won't turn off normally, instead it turns back on with the screen still not working.
The obvious question here is: what is going on and what can i do to get it going again? Either by formatting the thing and hopefully fixing corrupt video drivers and get the screen going again or some other solution i haven't thought of yet. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated, as i said i think its a fantastic phone. Now im using my old 1100 which is of course a poor substitute to an N95, even if its more functional in terms of being able to use it to hammer concrete nails into walls :-) And i know what your thinking: just drop it in the bin and buy a new one. But i'd rather fix it, i always try to fix broken appliances, phones and computers and it has probably saved me thousands of euros. So again: any help is greatly appreciated!

You phone will need repair. Please contact a Nokia Care point in your country so they can take a look at your phone and help. You can find Care point locations globally from www.nokia.com/repair or your local Nokia website -> Support.
Also note that as your warranty may be void, a charge may be in place to get it fixed. Let us know how you get on.

Major issue! GPU busted! Need help urgently!

I bought this HP pavilion g6 2230tx model around 1.5 years back and since then i have experienced quite a lot of problems with it like hdd crash, heatsink failure, motherboard failure. I'd sent it a lot of times for repair and a lot of my money has already been wasted on it.
Recently, after working fine for about 1 month a new problem took place. Its GPU busted! i dont how, but all of a sudden this dreaded TDR error started coming ("AMD display driver stopped responding and has been recovered"). I tried to sort out this issue in every possible way (trying older driver/ reinstalling OS/ flashing BIOS) but no help. Even the work around by microsoft isn't working! I'm sure that it's GPU is busted.
Now what i need to know is what can i do now? Is this even reapairable? Can i replace the GPU? If yes what'll be the cost?

I see that you are looking are replacing your GPU in your Pavilion g6. Unfortunately, the GPU is soldered onto the system board or motherboard. You would have to look at replacing that again.

I sugggest you try my application, Dates to iCal. It is shareware with a 2 week trial period.
Dates to iCal 2 is a replacement for Apple's birthday calendar for iCal. It has a range of features to allow the user to choose what, and what not, to sync to iCal from Address Book.
As well as automatically syncing birthday dates from Address Book, Dates to iCal 2 can sync anniversary and custom dates. It can set up to five alarms for each date in iCal and can also set different alarms for birthdays and anniversaries. It allows the option of only syncing from one Address Book group. This application also allows for the titles of the events sent to iCal to be modified to the user's preference.

How can i put customs dates/anniversary dates from my contacts into my iphone calendar?

I have set up custom dates in my contacts as well as anniversary dates. I'd like to know if there is an app to import these dates into a calendar, it doesn't have to be the iphone standard calendar. I'd just like them to show up as a normal calendar entry, rather than having to add them manually into the calendar. Also, if you have an anniverary date in a contact, and then a relationship as "spouse" to another contact, does this not assume they will have the same anniversary date and therefore update their contact details with this event too ? I don't mind having to buy an app, but most of the ones i have read only add birthdays, and i want to ensure all the custom dates I have set up get imported. These are for friends children's details who don't have their own contact set up in my phone. Thanks, any help appreciated!

Busted sound on T520-- pop sound

Hi. Sound has busted on T520 for a few weeks now. I can hear sound when I plug in my earphones, but windows recognizes this as a speaker, conexant 20672. I checked the "find and fix audio playback problems" in windows 7 to no avail. I believe I may have to have my speakers repaired. I am still under base warranty until sometime next year. It has not been taken apart. Do I have to send it in somewhere? Here is my warranty info: "This product has a three year limited warranty and is entitled to depot repair service. Customers may call their local service center for more information. Dealers may provide carry-in repair for this product. Batteries have a one year warranty." I believe the laptop was purchased online. Where would I get in touch with a local service center? I live in Canada.

I had an I tunes account with my work computer and e mail . The company went bust and the e mail and computer were no longer available to me .all of my I tunes purchases were on this computer .is their anyway I can retrieve this information. Thank you

Busted Screen, Need Help Hooking Up Monitor

The screen on my Powerbook is totally busted so I tried hooking up a monitor to it, but it seems to not be working correctly. All I see is my desktop picture, and no icons (like the HD or folders on my desktop), dock, or even the menu bar are not showing up. At first, I thought it was a ratio issue since the monitor is more square than the laptop screen, and therefore cutting the edges out where the menu bar, etc. would lie, but I'm pretty sure that's not the issue. I'm guessing I have to go into my system prefs and set the computer up to work with the monitor, but the problem is since the screen's totally shot, I can't even go in and do that. Any suggestions? Hi, hobageeba. What is the maximum resolution offered by your external monitor (consult its manual or the manufacturer's online specs for it)?
If the external monitor's maximum resolution (1024 x 768 or 1600 x 1200, for example) is as large as or larger than the maximum resolution of your Powerbook's display, you may be able to get a normal desktop — including the menu bar, desktop icons, etc. — displayed on the external monitor by pressing the F7 key on the Powerbook's keyboard. That should toggle the external display from Extended Desktop mode into Display Mirroring mode, in which the same video signal is sent to both displays, allowing you to use the external as the main display. (Note: under some circumstances, toggling F7 has no effect — and I don't know what circumstances, or why not. If it doesn't seem to do anything, it probably hasn't done anything, and it won't be helpful to you.)
Typically, if the external monitor's resolution is higher than the built-in display's, a mirrored video image will be displayed in the center of it surrounded by black, instead of filling the monitor. That wastes screen real estate, but at least you know you're seeing the whole desktop, and if your monitor is good, the image will be as sharp as it was on the built-in display when it worked.
If the external monitor has a lower maximum resolution than the built-in screen, the results of switching to Mirrored mode are less predictable. You may see only the center of the desktop, with the menu bar, hard drive icon, and other icons that were at the edges of the desktop "displayed" outside the edges of the external monitor. In that case it may be impossible to tell the difference between Mirrored and Extended Desktop modes, depending on what your desktop background image is. I don't know of a way to overcome that.
Whatever you find out about the monitor's resolution, give the F7 toggle a try and see what happens.

Move full SSD / Drive from busted Macbook Pro 2010 to older model

Hi,
I have a 13" Macbook Pro 2010 model whose logic board has failed. I want to take the SSD (installed with Snow Leopard and full of files and folder structures I want to keep) out of this busted computer and move it over to a Late 2007 Macbook Pro model I have lying around to get access to the drive again. I know in theory, I can install a SSD into this model, but can I install an SSD that is already formatted by my newer model? Are there things I need to consider?
And if the answer is yes, BUT it can be slightly unstable, can I go about mirroring the drive onto an external hardrive once it is in the 2007 model, wiping the SSD, reinstalling the SSD with a fresh boot and then transferring file structure from mirrored drive back onto the freshly installed SSD in my 2007 model? Does that sound like a good process?

The OS is machine-specific, so I doubt that an OS installed on a SSD on a 2010 would even boot a 2007 model.
You can TRY to install the drive into the 2007 model and use the installation disc(s) that came with that model to install the OS. It might work, might not. More likely than not, you're just going to have to erase the SSD, from Disk Utility on your installation disc, and start anew.

24" 2008 iMac with busted video card, advice needed.

I have a 2008 24" iMac in which the video card is busted. The machine will turn on, get to the log in screen with no issues, however there is absolutely no video output to the screen.
I have attempted connecting it to an external monitor using mini DVI to VGA and a VGA cable, but the machine is not set to display to an external monitor.
Having the video card replaced will cost in the region of €300, an amount I'm reluctant to spend on a machine which is seven years old.
I have it backed up, so I'm really looking for advice to to how to wipe it so I can sell it on for parts, or other suggestions...

Anniversary Dates STILL Not Working

I have a client who uses the anniversary dates to sent out yearly invoices. The client set them up to go out 2013 and they all went out fine. Every time someone paid a invoice in 2013 the client would go and change the anniversary date to 2014. Since January the system has NOT sent out any anniversary date emails. Making my client manually send out invoice notices - there are about 50 a month that need to go out.
I contacted support on Jan 15th. They acknowledged the issue and told me they would be looking into and closed the case and told me to check the blog for a fix. Its been almost 3 months now - and STILL NO FIX. I checked the blog and contacted chat support. All chat support could tell me was they know there is a issue and not idea when it would be fixed!
So needless to say, I have a client that is pissed at me that is has been almost 3 months and still no fix for something that is apart of a system they pay for!
Anyone from ADOBE want to help me? Here is my ticket number # 2710279.

Sorry about the delaying in a response. Another partner told me how to fix the issue. I had to delete the emails and reset them up. That solved the problem. In about 3 months I will find out if it still an issue.

How do you debug Busting problems?

I'm using a dataTemplate and a Bust Control File, but the busting doesn't appear to be firing, however everything is completing normally and I'm not able to find any log files (request & concurrent) that have errors in them?
When i run the request, with or without the burst control attached to the data definition, I get the final output, I'm just not seeing any email or file system activities... is there a trace or something i can turn on to see if the file is even being called???
The output generates one Excel file with all the data in the BACKLOG nodes getting returned into rows. I was hoping to schedule this program to run daily and burst out the output file to our warehouse managers email...
Any input would be great...

After running your concurrent program, you need to run 'XML Publisher Report Bursting Program' by giving the previous request id (of your concurrent program), then bursting will be initiated.

My busted ipod's serial number is scratched out and I need repairs?

I bought this ipod mini off of a guy who bought it off someone else.
The thing is busted and won't even turn on or charge and the case is banged up and the top and bottom covers are missing.
I wanted to get repairs on it and I was willing to pay but I saw that I needed to enter a serial number.
Unfortunately someone scratched the serial number out and I can't read it.
Am I screwed?

Serial number scratched out? That's a sure sign that it is stolen. Nice. Apple won't repair it - you should try a 3rd party iPod repair service.

Making a jargon buster in flash cs5 using XML

Hi guys !!
I am working o a jargon buster for a college project.
I have written up an XML document like this:

Basically the user inputs their query into a editable text field and then flash searches the xml for the query and returns an
answer into a readable text field below.
My problem is how do I get flash to do that??

I suggest you read some XML tutorials. Functionality you desire is one of the easiest to implement once you get a light grasp on XML.
