10.2.0.2 Upgrade Tips

Yesterday I tried to upgrade my 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.2 on my RHEL3 box, then I run into the problem with the "ORA-00821: current sga_target=210M , need at least 316M" during the postinstallation when I tried to startup upgrade. Luckily I found a solution in the Asktom.com (and alydan.com too), However, I could not use his solution directly, Because I use "startup force pfile=init$my_SID.temp", I could only mount the instance but not open and got the error ORA-01092 ("ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnected force") After i checked with my alert log, whcih suggested me to use "UPGRADE" instead of "FORCE", and it worked. So I could continue with the regular upgrade processes. Here are the summary of my steps:
1. cd $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
2. strings -a spfile$my_SID.ora > init$my_SID.temp
mv spfile$my_SID.ora spfile$my_SID.ora.old
3. vi init$my_SID.temp, increase the sga_target up above 320M
4. at oracle user setting, connect / as sysdba
5. SQL> startup upgrade pfile='$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init$my_SID.temp'
6 SQL> ORACLE instance started.
Database mounted
Database open
7 SQL> create spfile from pfile='$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init$my_SID.temp';
File created
8. SQL> exit
9. at prompt login as sysdba again
10. SQL> startup upgrade
the rest steps will be same as in the metalink note 4547817. It came out everything fine till now. I think the original metalink note should tell people to alter system set the sga_target=316M; (or above) when altering other initialization parameters. So this problem will not show out.

It does in a way. You just have to make the connection to what they are trying to say.
If you look at step 6 in Section 7.2.1.3 Set the SHARED_POOL_SIZE and JAVA_POOL_SIZE Initialization Parameters
6. If you use Automatic Shared Memory Management, ensure that the value of the SGA_TARGET initialization parameter size is at least 50M greater then sum of the values SHARED_POOL_SIZE and the JAVA_POOL_SIZE initialization parameters.
They could have been a little more clear.

    Greetings Experts!
I am searching for information and/or documentation in regards to tips, tricks, lessons learned, and "steps to take" while upgrading to ECC 6.0 (from 4.6c, to be specific).
We have the install guides, and I'm currently looking at the ERP Solution browser to discern the differences between the two releases... however, we're in need of information on specific actions or things to look for after the technical upgrade. I am having trouble finding any SAP documentation of this kind.
Links to SAP documentation are highly desired. Personal documentation in this regard would be highly appreciated as well! My e-mail address is in my profile.

Some things to know when planning to upgrade to Snow Leopard:
    General Information
    • Snow Leopard will only run on a Mac with an Intel processor. It will not run on any Mac with a PowerPC processor. PowerPC-based Macs include all PowerMac G3s, PowerMac G4s and PowerMac G5s, iMac G3s, iMac G4s, iMac G5s, all PowerBooks, all iBooks, and all eMacs. There is no workaround or hack that will get around this issue and get Snow Leopard to install and run on a PowerPC-based Mac.
    • An Apple web page with the major enhancements and refinements in Snow Leopard can be found here:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/refinements/enhancements-refinements.html
    • An article with a useful summary about Snow Leopard and 64-bit computing can be found here:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20090826074252596
    Tips
    • IMPORTANT: As with any upgrade, you need to confirm compatibility of all your applications and drivers with Snow Leopard before you upgrade. Some major items of note:
Snow Leopard only ships with Java 1.6, so any applications built with Java must include support for 1.6 or the application will fail. Applications that currently use Java and are reported not to work include (but are by no means limited to) SPSS, ClamXav and Cyberduck.
Snow Leopard has severely restricted or in many cases eliminated the use of Input Managers, so applications that depended on those will fail. Logitech's mouse drivers appear to fall into this category.
Many applications that are or include menu bar components will fail if they depend on Unsanity's Menu Extra Enabler or the open-source Menu Cracker.
Apple has a list of software officially stated to be incompatible with Snow Leopard here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258
There's also an ongoing compatibility list is being maintained here:
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
Reports on that site are unofficial but may be useful.
    • Snow Leopard no longer includes AppleTalk, so you will no longer be able to use any AppleTalk-only printers or other devices.
    • Safari by default will launch in 64-bit mode on those systems that support 64-bit processing (which includes all Macs with Intel Core 2 Duo or Xeon processor). If you have Safari plug-ins that are not working, quit Safari, Get Info on the Safari application, and select "Open in 32-bit mode" and relaunch Safari.
    • QuickTime Player X has some ability to trim and convert media, but no longer includes many of the former options available in QuickTime Pro. QuickTime 7 Player is available as an optional installation for those who still need the additional Pro features. If you have QuickTime 7 Pro installed in Leopard and are upgrading, the Snow Leopard installer should install QuickTime 7 Player automatically and preserve your Pro key. Apple has made no mention of a Pro version of QuickTime X.
    • The Snow Leopard installer reportedly removes the Script subfolders from /Library/Scripts/, so if you are upgrading Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, before performing the upgrade make a backup of the Address Book Scripts, Basics, Finder Scripts, Info Scripts, Internet Services, and Navigation Scripts subfolders and then copy them back to /Library/Scripts/ after installing the update.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
As the computer froze during the Snow Leopard installation, it's possible that Snow Leopard wasn't installed correctly and Snow Leopard can't start, so you have to reinstall Snow Leopard. To do it, insert the Snow Leopard disc, hold the C key while your computer is starting and follow the steps to reinstall Snow Leopard. You won't lose anything you had saved

  • Upgrade tips

    Hi,
I'm running premiere cs5 and AE cs5 on a 64bit machine. I want to upgrade a bit but i'm a bit doubtfull what to do.
    My machine:
intel i7 950 overclocked to 4.0ghz (running stable)
    12gb corsair xms3 1600mhz dd3
    amd hd5850 overclocked edition
    asus p6t deluxe v2 motherboard
    1x crucial m4 128gb SSD (win7, adobe suite)
    1x WD caviar black 1TB 7200rpm
    1x WD caviar green 2TB
I have a couple of options for upgrades
buy another WD black for a raid-0 setup
sell my hd5850 and buy a geforce 550/570
buy another SSD for project data (for the projects I'm working on)
    more ram
Of course I want to do this as cheap as possible, but which upgrade would you do? Which upgrade would improve my workflow?
    regards
    Mehmet

the setup for my hdd's are now:
    1    128gb ssd- windows,adobe suite
    2     1tb 7200rpm-source files,project files
    3     2tb 5200rpm- output files
So according to John this should be:
    1     windows, adobe suite
2     project files, windows paging swap
    3     source files.output files
and perhaps a 4th hdd to separate de source and output files
But what does the windows paging swap do??
And the upgrade to a Geforce 570 would be the best upgrade in the list as I undestand but also the most expensive one. But if I do a quick calculation:
    Geforce 570 superclocked: 270euro
    my hd5850 2nd hand price: 100euro
170 euro witch i have to pay extra
    a new caviar black 1tb: 100euro
So that would me 70 euros more fore the videocard upgrade, and my quistion is: is the video card upgrade so much better than the hdd upgrade?

    Hi chavinda546,
No you can't put an Intel i7-960 chip into the motherboard in your PC. You would end up replacing the motherboard, memory, power supply and processor.  And,  your HP recovery disks would not work so you would probably need to buy a copy of Windows 7.

What should I buy to upgrade from the old 10.4.11 OS X?

    In no particular order...
OS X 10.5 is the last OS X release that will run on PowerPC / PPC / G5 hardware, and there is no support for the App Store and software downloads that far back.
The oldest OS X release that can download software from the App Store is 10.6.8.
To upgrade that 10.4 system to 10.5, you'd need to scrounge up a retail DVD and install that.    There's probably not really all that much point in expending the time and effort and money involved with this upgrade, either.   (If you're going to stay where you are, you might consider scrounging up another old G5 of the same model for spare parts, and plan to have to swap disks and related parts around as they fail.)
OS X 10.6 and all later releases require an Intel processor, and the current 10.9 release has some additional requirements.
Typical approach here would be the wholesale replacement of this PowerPC / PPC / G5 Mac.    With a newer or a new Mac.   A new Intel Mac will arrive with 10.9 or potentially the next "Yosemite" release, depending on exactly when you buy it and when Apple releases the "Yosemite" version.
Your existing PowerPC / PPC / G5 software can be emulated on 10.6, if you buy a (used) Intel Mac that is old enough to support that release.  That's not really a long-term solution, as 10.6 is itself very old.
You will require replacement application software for any newer Mac or new Mac system.   You'll need new application versions that are built for Intel on later releases.  Your existing PowerPC / PPC / G5 application software will not work past OS X 10.6.8.  How you migrate your data depends on the application, assuming there are new versions of all of your application packages.
Here is a list of the project names for the various OS X releases — the older releases were named after big cats, and 10.5 was Leopard.
Whatever you decide to do (or not do) here, always have backups of your Mac.
Probably best to visit the local Apple store or Apple reseller and have a detailed discussion with the folks there.

  • Can I upgrade a G3 Beige to tiger?

I am running 8.6 and need to upgrade. I purchased X Tiger. When I insert the CD it says unreadable by this Mac. Does that mean my G3 will not support Tiger? Help! Very frustrated....

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
As others have stated you need the CD Media to be able to upgrade to Tiger:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/
offers a Tiger Media Exchange program on its right hand side once you buy the retail Tiger disks.
Also to be able to upgrade to 10.2 or higher, there are specific firmware updates for the Beige G3s commonly included hardware:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
And you need XPostfacto to get beyond 10.2.8.
You won't be able to use 8.6 in the Classic environment, so you'll also need to find a place a place that sells the retail 9 disks to upgrade to Mac OS 9.
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html
has many other upgrade tips. Weigh the fact that your hard drive is probably no bigger than 10 GB, can only have 8 GB in the first partition, if larger than 8 GB, and Tiger's default installation is 3 GB:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/requirements.html
and that many of the drivers for third party hardware you might have connected to your machine don't exist in Tiger, I would suggest keeping your Beige G3 as a Mac OS 8.6 or 9 machine, and network it to a new X machine like a $500 Mac Mini instead of trying to upgrade your Beige G3 to Tiger. While the latter is doable, it is an exercise in putting a jet engine on a horse drawn chariot. If that's the kind of machine you want to have, that's your choice.

  • Local mods - upgrading to Solaris 8

    Hi
I will be upgrading from Solaris 2.6 to Solaris 8.
How much will I have to re-do in the way of the configuration of things like cron jobs, rtel printers, lpadmin printers, serial port (aurora) configuration and ?any other local modifications?
Will I have to reinstall the aurora serial port drivers?
Are the /etc/rcn.d directory contents and /etc/inittab preserved?
    Thanks
    D

"Most" user configurable files will "survive" an upgrade but it is up to you to find out if such things as aurora serial port drivers are supported, or will even work ,in Solaris 8 or if an upgrade is required. Your primary network interface may be the only interface to survive the upgrade. Cron jobs should be OK.
The only way to protect yourself is to have a level 0 ufsdump of all your OS slices to a local tape drive. Preferably this will be done from a cdrom boot. Don't really want to dump "live" files. You can then interactivly ufsrestore missing files.
If your upgrade turns sour, or your filesystems are too small for Solaris 8 then a ufsrestore may be your only recourse.
Please try to find InfoDoc 16141 - Solaris Upgrade Tips & Checklist.
Please ensure your system boots before any upgrade begins.

  • If I have 10.5.0 can I upgrade free to latest rev?

I am brand new to Macs. Seems like there is something you can click on in the OS's that will update you to the latest in that version? I know for ex. you have to buy the next release like 10.6 and can't upgrade from earlier version. So, if I buy a Mac with less than 10.5.8 will I be able to update to .8?

That said, I recommend getting the 10.5.8 combo update:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
That will make sure you get all the patches in between.
    And follow these upgrade tips*:

  • Upgrading ECC 5.0 to ECC 6.0

    Dear Friends,
We are planning to upgrade our SAP version from ECC 5.0 to ECC 6.0.
    I need some information from you all;
    1. What are the advantages.
    2. If we upgrade 32 - bit to 64 - bit what is the difference and why 64 - bit SAP is preferring, what would be the main advantages.
Please clear me in this, i need your support to enhance my knowledge before start the proposed.
    Regards,
    Praveen Merugu

    Dear Praveen Kumar Merugu,
Since SAP Basis Release 4.0, the 64-bit SAP kernel has been available. The mySAP.com solutions which are based on Web Application Server 6.10 or higher are - with few exceptions - available as 64-bit versions only for operating systems based on 64-bit-capable hardware.
    1. 64-bit mySAP.com, what's behind it?
In order to provide a R/3 system as 64-bit version the source code of the R/3 kernel was re-translated. However, the source code itself was not modified. The functions of the 64-bit and the 32-bit versions therefore do not differ.
Basically, 64-bit software differs from the 32-bit version only in the different manner of addressing the memory. 64-bit software uses a 64-bit address pointer which, in theory, can address 18 billion Gb of memory directly. Actually, a 64-bit application can address a lot less with the different operating systems and the hardware available, but still the addressing of several terabyte (that is several 1000 Gbyte) of memory is possible. This is considerably more than required by the components of the myAP.com software.
For a 32-bit address pointer, the address space is limited to about 4 Gbyte; in reality, even less is available to the application. There are examples where this 4 Gbyte limit prevents an efficient operation of a mySAP.com system.
    2. Advantages of the 64-bit technology for mySAP.com
The administration of the SAP system is considerably facilitated.
The SAP software can scale the available hardware (RAM, CPU) to a much higher degree.
    3. System requirements for 64-bit mySAP.com
    a) 64-bit-capable hardware
A basic requirement for using 64-bit operating systems and 64-bit applications is a 64-bit-capable hardware. In particular the version of the used processors (CPU) determines the 64-bit capability of existing hardware. For information on the compatibility of the hardware with 64- bit operating systems you should contact the responsible person at your hardware partner.
    b) 64-bit operating system
For using a 64-bit SAP software, an upgrade to a 64-bit operating system may be required. For releases, please refer to the release notes that are available for each database for each SAP kernel release.
    c) 64-bit database
When using a 64-bit mySAP.com software, a combination with a 64-bit database version (RDBMS) is recommended by SAP. Databases of SAP, IBM, INFORMIX, and ORACLE have already been supported as 64-bit versions since SAP release 4.0.
    4. Exceptions
    a) Operating systems on servers with Intel Pentium processors.
The Intel Pentium processor is a 32-bit processor. For this reason, the SAP Software for Microsoft Server operating systems and Linux will still be available in the 32-bit version for the next years to come. In the long run, SAP will change over to the 64-bit version of the SAP software also on these platforms which requires 64-bit Itanium processors. When changing over to the 64-bit version, SAP will also take into account the investment security of their customers.
    b) DB2 UDB for Unix and Windows (DB6):
Since the DB2 UDB database allows a mixed operation of 32-bit and 64-bit database client applications as of version 8 only, SAP will make available 32-bit SAP Software of Release 6.x for DB2 UDB systems until the end of 2003.
    5. Availability of 64-bit mySAP.com solutions
The latest information on R/3 Release planning can be found on the SAP Website under http://sapnet.sap.com/platforms. Detailed information on the platform combinations released by SAP can be found in SAP release notes under the XX_SER-SWREL component.
All existing 32-bit 4.x releases are supported with 32-bit versions of the SAP kernel until futher notice.
    6. Availability of the different 64-bit mySAP.com solutions
    a) R/3
R/3 is available as of release R/3 4.0.
    b) Business Information Warehouse (BW)
Business Information Warehouse is available with 64-bit SAP kernel as of version 2.0A.
    c) Enterprise Buyer Professional (EBP), former BBP
EBP is available with 64-bit SAP kernel as of version 2.0A.
    d) Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
Customer Relationship Management is available with 64-bit SAP kernel as of version 1.2.
    e) Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO)
APO is available with 64-bit SAP kernel as of version 3.0A.
    7. Possible combinations of 32-bit and 64-bit
    a) Possible combinations within a SAP system
For the SAP releases as of 4.0B, a mixed use of 32-bit and 64-bit instances within one SAP system is supported on application server level. 32-bit and 64-bit SAP instances must reside on separate servers, however. The mixed use of 32-bit and 64-bit SAP instances on the same server is not supported.
For the SAP releases as of 4.0, the combination of 32-bit SAP application servers with a 64-bit database server, and of a 32-bit database with 64-bit application servers is possible in principle. Releases for such combinations are granted in justified cases. In case of a mixed installation of a 32-bit SAP application server and a 64-bit database server or vice versa on a shared host, you need to make sure in particular that the SAP application server uses the correct database libraries. A subsequent manual configuration may be required. The database upgrade guide describes how to proceed (see also Ora Note 406140 or 539922, for example).
    b) Possible combinations within a mySAP.com system landscape
Transports with 'tp' or 'R3trans' between 32-bit and 64-bit SAP systems are possible.
There are many differences between a 32-bit and a 64-bit SAP system, e.g. the parameter settings of the HP-UX operating system kernel and SAP kernel that do not take into account a combined configuration of test and production systems.
All features and functions that depend on the parameter settings cannot be sufficiently tested  for a 64-bit production environment in a 32-bit test or development system. This includes in particular the effect of the parameter settings on the memory management and the performance of a SAP system.
For this reason, SAP recommends to have at least one other 64-bit system available for each 64-bit production system within the transport track where the availability of SAP kernel, operating system and database can be tested.
    c) Interoperability with 32-bit add-on products
For software products of third-party suppliers used with SAP software it is not important whether a 32-bit or a 64-bit SAP R/3 kernel is used. The use of a 32-bit or 64-bit SAP R/3 kernel is completely transparent for add-on products of third party suppliers as long as these products use SAP certified interfaces.
32-bit and 64-bit applications that directly access shared memory segments cannot be combined. For add-on products of SAP with direct access to the shared memory you have to ensure the bit size corresponds to that of the SAP kernel. This is e.g. valid for the product 'saposcol'. With a 64-bit SAP kernel it is only possible to use a 64- bit saposcol.
    8. Preparations for the installation of a 64-bit SAP kernel
In addition to the basic requirements, 64-bit hardware, 64-bit operating system and 64-bit database the following aspects are to be taken into account for preparing the installation of a 64-bit SAP kernel:
    a) Shared memory
Since there is virtually no limit of the shared memories in the case of a 64-bit SAP you can set large sizes for all buffers. (Refer to the recommendation of SAP Note 103747 under III).
    b) Swap space
Addressing a very large memory requires the configuration of a correspondingly large swap space. To use a 64-bit SAP kernel you must at least configure 20 GB swap space.
    c) Operating system kernel parameters
Except for some cases the parameter settings of the operating system kernel for a 32-bit and a 64-bit R/3 are identical.  he most important operating system kernel parameters and their values recommended by SAP can be found in Note 146289. For HP-UX please also refer to Note 172747.
    INSTALLATION TIPS
The installation of the 64-bit SAP kernel for Release 4.0B and 4.5B is carried out manually. First the system requirements described above must be fulfilled . The installation of the 64-bit SAP kernel is then simply performed by replacing all existing 32-bit executables of the SAP kernel with the corresponding 64-bit executables.
    Example:
    Initial state:              SAP release       4.5B
                 SAP kernel        4.5B 32-bit
                 RDBMS             ORACLE 8.0.5  64-bit
                 OS:               HP-UX 11.00   64-bit
    Target:              SAP release       4.5B
                 SAP kernel        4.5B 64-bit
                 RDBMS             ORACLE 8.0.5 64-bit
                 OS:               HP-UX 11.0   64-bit
    Procedure:
The procedure is described in detail in the following SAP notes:
SAP note: 146248    Installation of SAP R/3 4.0B 64-bit kernel
SAP note: 155355    Installation of SAP R/3 4.5B 64-bit kernel
Installation of the 64-bit SAP kernel as of SAP Basis release 4.6B
As of SAP release 4.6B the installation tool R3SETUP is delivered and supported as 64-bit version on CD.
System copy with 64-bit SAP 4.5B (ORACLE)
While unloading an Oracle database with the R3SETUP (32-bit version) it cannot connect to the database if a 64-bit SAP kernel is used.
If you use the 64-bit SAP kernel for Oracle you automatically use a 64- bit Oracle client library as only a 64-bit library can be loaded for a 64-bit SAP kernel. However, since the R3SETUP is only available as 32- bit version up to Release 4.5B and since the 32-bit R3SETUP is not compatible with the 64-bit Oracle client library the error mentioned above occurs in the case of a system copy (in particular during the unload).
While loading the 32-bit SAP kernel is unpacked first so no problems should occur here.
In order to be able to perform a system copy (unload) with the 32-bit R3SETUP follow the instructions of Note 177724.
    UPGRADE TIPS
    Upgrade from a 32-bit to a 64-bit SAP system
The operating system upgrade and the SAP upgrade should be performed separately (if possible). The same applies to the change of the 32-bit SAP kernel to the 64-bit kernel to ensure that the phases can be tested and completed separately.
As of 4.6C the change to a 64-bit SAP kernel will be supported during an upgrade.
That means that the individual phases like operating system upgrade, database migration and kernel exchange should be included in the planning.
    Database
For a database, you need to check whether the binaries have to be replaced during the operating system upgrade. The binaries for HP-UX 10.20 do not run on HP-UX 11, for example!! The corresponding Oracle software for HP-UX 11 must be installed. When upgrading to a 64-bit Oracle 8 version you have to migrate to a 32-bit Oracle 8 version fist. Only then, you can import the 64-bit RDBMS.
The SAP upgrade should always be carried out before the 32-bit SAP kernel is replaced by the 64-bit SAP kernel, since the latter includes an adjustment of the UNIX kernel and the instance parameters.
    Sample scenario 1:
         Initial state:                          R/3 release 3.1I
                             SAP kernel  3.1I (32-bit)
                             RDBMS:      ORACLE 7.3.4 (32-bit)
                             OS:         HP-UX 10.20  (32-bit)
        Target:                         R/3 release  4.6B
                            SAP kernel   3.1I  (32-bit)
                            RDBMS:       ORACLE 8.0.5 64-bit
                            OS:          HP-UX 11.0 64-bit
    Procedure:
    1st alternative:
    9. Upgrading the operating system to HP-UX 11.0
    10. Installation of the 7.3.4 RDBMS binaries for HP-UX 11.0
    11. Migration to 8.0.5 32-bit RDBMS for HP-UX 11.0 (see the instructions guide). This step is required as the database migration from 7 to 8 must always be performed via Oracle 8 32-bit.
    12. Subsequent exchange of the RDBMS 8.0.5 32-bit to 8.0.5 64-bit. This step can be performed after the upgrade as well (prior to the SAP kernel exchange).
    13. Upgrade of the R/3 system to 4.6B with a 32-bit SAP kernel. The PREPARE unpacks the 32-bit tools automatically so that no manual intervention is necessary.
    14. Exchange of the SAP R/3 kernel on 64-bit prior to the upgrade and adjustment of the R/3 kernel and instance parameters
    2nd alternative:
    15. Migration to 8.0.5 32-bit on HP-UX 10.20
    16. Operating system upgrade to HP-UX 11.0
    17. Exchange of RDBMS binaries on 8.0.5 64-bit for HP-UX 11.0
    18. Upgrade of the R/3 system to 4.6B with 32-bit SAP kernel
    19. Exchange of the SAP R/3 kernel on 64-bit
    Or (if required)
    3rd alternative:
    20. Oracle migration to 8.0.5 32-bit (on HP-UX 10.20)
    21. Upgrade of the R/3 system to 4.6B with 32-bit SAP kernel
    22. Operating system upgrade to HP-UX 11 64-bit
    23. Exchange of the Oracle binaries on 8.0.5 64-bit
    24. Exchange of the SAP kernel on 4.6B 64-bit
    Sample scenario 2:
    Initial state:                R/3 release    3.1I
                   SAP kernel     3.1I (32-bit)
                   RDBMS          Oracle 7.3.4 (32-bit)
                   OS             HP-UX 10.20  (32-bit)
    Target:               R/3 release     4.5B
                  SAP kernel      4.5B 64-bit
                  RDBMS           Oracle 8.0.5 64-bit
                  OS              HP-UX 11.0 64-bit
    Procedure:
The procedure is similar to the one described in the 1. scenario. However, in this case it is not possible to already import the 64-bit SAP kernel in the upgrade phase KX_SWITCH as the 64-bit kernel for Release 4.5B will not be delivered on the upgrade CD. The import of the 64-bit SAP kernel must be manually performed after the SAP upgrade. Release 4.5B will not be delivered on the upgrade CD. The import of the 64-bit SAP kernel must be manually performed after the SAP upgrade.
Do let me know in case of any queries.
    Hope this helps you.
Do award points if you found them useful.

  • Upgrading from jaguar to Tiger on an eMac

i am posting for a friend who was upgrading her eMac from jaguar to Tiger. she followed the directions that she was prompted to follow, got to the end of the installation and, as prompted, did the restart. when the computer rebooted, it never fully restarted. she just got the screen that we all get with the spinning wheel. it spun for about an hour. she rebooted, same thing. obviously something went wrong with the install. where does she go from here?
    thanks.

If one of these steps solves the problems she need not go further, but she needs to learn how to backup her data.
    1. Try restarting with nothing but Apple keyboard and mouse attached.
    2. Try resetting the PRAM:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
    3. Try booting off the 10.4 installer DVD if it is a retail version using the Startup Manager:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106178
and go through the language selection screen and go to the Utilities menu and select Disk Utility. In the Disk Utility, select First Aid. Verify disk, and report back any errors to you. Repair permissions as well, and try restarting.
    4. If her data is backed up, but she can't boot, she should do step 3 with a repair disk.
    5. If repair disk does not work, she should get an external hard disk that is Firewire and see if should install 10.4 on it, and see the contents of the internal drive while booted off it using the aforementioned startup manager to boot. http://www.macsales.com/ sells such hard drives. If she can see the contents of the internal drive, she should backup her information if in step 3 she wasn't backed up. If she can't see it, she should use buy Prosoft Data Rescue to recover information to the external hard drive.
    6. If she got usable data from step 5 onto the external hard drive, she should attempt to archive and install 10.4 on the internal drive with the external drive detached, and recover information from the external drive:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270
    7. If she was not able to get usable data on step 5, she should try Alsoft Disk Warrior to repair the internal drive.
If after all that she can't get usable data, I recommend she seek out a data recovery specialist if she didn't backup.
In the future she should always backup before updating, and follow these upgrade tips of mine:

  • Online upgrade crash

online OS upgrade caused software crash. got it repaired. loaded OSX10.9.2.
Now should I try upgrade? if yes, then online (very large file) or by dvd (if one is available at all)

There is no DVD upgrade.  And you posted to the wrong forum.  10.3 people usually have no knowledge of 10.9.  Those upgrading to 10.9 or 10.10 have the same issues to contend with as 10.8:
    The correct forums are here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2463
    Upgrading tips are here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6131
Crashing says there is something generally wrong with your system, and backing up and isolating the crash cause is advised before any further upgrade.   Upgrading is to enable compatibility for specific applications, while adding new capabilities.   Only do so when all applications and drivers are supported by the upgrade.
