10.4.7 Update Restart Dialog

Hope someone can help because this is baffeling me.
I installed the 10.4.7 update last night and at the end of it I recieved a semi transparent message with a symbol of a power button in the background of it which said "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press reset button."
I did this and when powering the computer back up it showed the grey apple logo boot screen with the silver pinwheel spinning constantly. Being worried I checked and repaired the disk and repaired the permissions. Now when I switch on my Mac Mini (G4) It shows the transparent restart computer dialog again and again no matter how many times I restart it.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Overall, I was pretty impressed by the ease of resetting everything after the archive and install. All my third-party applications were untouched, but I did have to reinstall the driver for my Canon scanner.
My iLife apps seemed to be restored to the current versions, but I had to update QuickTime. I also couldn't use iMovie HD without at least 10.4.2, but I just waited until I had a chance to do the 10.4.6 combo upgrade.

    Problems:
    After updating to 10.4.5... and reinstalling the system 5-6 times from scratch I have been getting kernel panics, spinning wheels and restart dialogs on startup intermittent.
    The latest panic:
    Panic (cpu 0 caller 0x002E0368) Unable to find driver for this platform PowerMac 8,1.
    Kernel Version 8.5.0
    There have been all sorts of kernel panics but I don't get a panic log since system seems to panic in such an early stage.
    This has been done, more than once:
    - Disconnected everything
    - Reformatted HD and reinstalled from original CD
    - Downloaded combo updates from Apple website and installed them after repairing disc and permissions first.
    - Starts fine
    - Repaired permissions again, after restart.
    - installed one app at a time (latest updates on every app), allways restarting to see if everything still is fine, which it is.
    - Reconnecting external drive, burner, printer etc. allways checking if everything is fine by doing a reboot. It is.
    Computer seems happy, and so am I...
    Next morning, a kernel panic, or a reboot dialog or spinning wheel at startup. I reboot, cross my fingers, and it starts up first, second or third try. No panic log other than the screen on startup.
    - I reinstall combo update, restart and do a command-alt-P-R on the #&%?! and everything is fine... untill next day.
    - I run Apple Diagnostic and there is a problem with one of the memory cards. I try it again and again looping. Now no problems found?! So I rum Memtest and still no problems found.
    - I do this over and over againg to the point of physical illness.
    - I reboot from my external drive with 10.4.3 without any problems whatsoever.
    - Go back to 10.4.5 and the problems start again.
    - I remove Apple caches, Extension caches, ATS and all that. Boots fine... untill next day?!
    The most irritating thing is that once the computer boots up there are no apparent problems whatsoever using it.
    I have read every post on kernel panics here, at apple website and at The X Lab. Tried - in my opinion - everything without getting to the bottom of it.
    What did I forget?
    What havent I tried?
    I want my trusted Mac back!
    Very thankful for any help whatsoever.
    P.s. Since the computer works fine in 10.4.3 I don't see the point of taking it to service. It has to bee software related, no?

    Thank You for Your quick responce!
    I have 2 1GB DIMMs installed from the shop when I bought my iMac. I read http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86814 about iMac Memory Specs and if I understand it correctly I could remove one of the DIMMs to test if the problem goes away. Although the computer will run better with two DIMMs it will work with one slot empty as well.
    Did I understand that correctly?

    Here's how to do it.
    1. App Store, iTunes Store should have the same AppleID on Computer and iPhones. (Free to share apps, music and books... )
    2. Person A uses the same purchasing account for everything (ie. email, contacts and ...).
    3. Person B have the same purchase account see no. 1 (for App Store and iTunes Store) but create a second AppleID for iCal, e-mail, contacts  and etc.

  • Update available dialog box appears behind app window

    We have an app that checks for an update each time it launches. This has worked quite well until our latest rev, which included an upgrade to Flash Builder 4.0, the 4.0 sdk, and the AIR 2.0 overlay.
    Now the update dialog box appears behind our application window, which means our users are not going to see it.
    Has anyone else seen this problem?
    Our code looks something like this:
            private function initUpdate():void
                appUpdater = new ApplicationUpdaterUI();
                appUpdater.configurationFile = new File("app:/update-config.xml");
                appUpdater.initialize();
                appUpdater.addEventListener(UpdateEvent.INITIALIZED, autoUpdate);
            private function autoUpdate(ev:UpdateEvent):void
                appUpdater.isCheckForUpdateVisible = false;
                appUpdater.checkNow();
                appUpdater.removeEventListener(UpdateEvent.INITIALIZED, autoUpdate);
    Do I need to try to control the order of the windows? Never had to do that before? Or perhaps "delay" the initialization of the appUpdater() by calling it later in the startup process.
    Any other thoughts are appreciated.
    Kevin S.

    Yes, thanks. That's what I did to solve the problem. I inserted a timer and delayed the call to check for updates for .25 of a second, and now the Update Available dialog is appearing on top of the application window.

    How large is your HD and how much space do you have left?
    Check out the following & do the necessary:
    Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
    Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
    Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
    Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
    Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
    Try SU again.
    If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

    What is a error message and what do you see when it appears?
    Haven't much problem with Airs around here, since they have a SSD they tend to be more reliable.
    Perhaps it was a bad update, have you ran through this list of possible fixes?
    Do as many as possible, starting with #1. Until the problem is resolved.
    Use the boot 10.6 USB instead of the disk of course.

  • Just updated to OS X 10.9.3 on iMac. Update restart doesn't want iMac to boot.

    Just updated to OS X 10.9.3 on iMac. Update restart doesn't want iMac to boot. Hanging since. Got a pink screen after update and then hangs at progress indicator. Tried all, also safe mode, and after start up in Safe Mode the indicator spins of 25s, indicator stops spinning and hangs. Been hanging now for 23 minutes...!

    First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
    Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Since the NEW version has been installed, I've receive an update notice of a critical update. Each time I select to apply that update the dialog display never apply any update, it looks to be in a processing state but never completes.

    Any Firefox updates are set to automatically update on my computer. I currently have version 4.0.
    Since the NEW version has been installed, I've receive an update notice for a critical update several times. Each time I select to apply that update the dialog display never apply any update, it looks to be in a processing state but never completes. Of late I've had 2 unexpected issues surface. (1) a Flash Player stopped flashing, an "player stopped" message appeared, "send error report" and a reload player message was included. (2) I just received a error message > 400 "Bad Request" when the browser first opened. This has never happened before.

    It is a Remote Desktop Client Update 3.7.1
    Thank you for answering. I apologize it has taken me so long to get back in here.
    I just realized that I wrote that I installed from app store originally, but I must correct that statement. I never paid for the app so it must have come preinstalled on my 2011 iMac. I was confused since the update is through the store so I assumed I downloaded it. Sorry for any miscommunication.
    So to be clear, even though I have never remotely administered / accessed my computer and I no longer have ARD on my computer, it is normal to have the client update appear in my App Store. Is that correct?
    I appreciate your assistance.

  • Winodws Update Restart Notification

    We have a bunch of TVs in our building that use IE to play videos of we created. We have it set so IE goes in full screen mode using ctrl +F11 keys.
    I have  schedule task that runs every Sunday for this purpose. What is happening is that if we push windows updates to all systems on Tuesday, they get a restart notification popup and it is displayed on the screen. Is there a way to set it up so that
    the windows update restart notification stays in the background of the IE full screen then the restart script will reboot the machine once a week.
    Also, after the reboot, IE pops up asking if we want to resume the session instead of just going to the home page. Can this function be disabled.

    Hi,
    Let’s disable it by the following method:
    Type  gpedit.msc in Win+R prompt to open group policy editor.
    Go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update
    Double click on “No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates installations”. In the dialogue box that comes up, select “Enabled” and click “OK”

  • Still!!! server side activities have been updated. restart SPD to use the updated version of activities

    server side activities updated... restart SPD to use latest activities"
    pretty huh? I have been working with SP13 online and a custom list which I would simply like to add a workflow too,
    When creating a workflow I receive this error, I have uninstalled SPD I have cleared/deleted cache files in the following locations:
    <user profile>\appdata\roaming\microsoft\SharePoint Designer\ProxyAssemblyCache
    < user profile>\appdata\local\microsoft\websitecache\<sitename>
    restarted computer
    reinstalled SPD
    and...same message "server side activities updated... restart SPD to use latest activities"
    Same Image as above
    Now what else can I do, there aren't any language packages other than the default English, and a lot of people find this issue with no luck as to a resolution, need an answer that will work

    In my case the solution to this problem was the following. I discovered that the contents of <user profile>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebsiteCache\<sitename>\<version> was empty aside from Activity.xml for the website in question. This directory
    should actually download the following list of files from the server in order for the workflows to operate in SPD. This is not the case when things go wonky.
    Microsoft.ReportingServices.SharePoint.UI.WebParts.Proxy.dll
    Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices.Activities.Proxy.dll
    Microsoft.Web.Design.Client.dll
    Newtonsoft.Json.dll
    ProxyAssembly.xml
    System.Net.Http.dll
    System.Net.Http.Formatting.dll
    System.Net.Http.Formatting.xml
    System.Net.Http.xml
    System.Web.Entity.Proxy.dll
    System.Web.Extensions.Proxy.dll
    So I found that if I copied these from another websitecache directory that is working or perhaps copying them from another machine where SPD is working properly that my workflows will start working once again. I haven't checked but I'm certain that you could
    hunt down all these dll's manually on the server as well.

  • IOS 8.3 Update - 5S stuck on update restart?

    Hi,
    I decided to update my 16GB iPhone 5S to iOS 8.3 yesterday. All was going smoothly until the very last stage of the process, where the phone restarts and a loading bar appears underneath the normal start-up logo. The bar had loaded until only a rough tenth remained, but it has stayed that way for over 12 hours now, and shows no sign of continuing. I have tried turning my phone off using all traditional methods to no avail, and it won't let me restore from my laptop as is unable to connect due to being in the restarting process. Any help to resolve this issue would be much appreciated,
    Thank you.

    I was glad to see that feature change. I use my photographs as my Lockscreen and Home screen wallpapers and never liked the shading.
