10.5.1 Update doesn't fix iChat/Photobooth video issues.

I didn't really think it would since there were a lot of lower level OS items to repair before working on particular hardware issues.
That being said, I'd like to make it clear that video is broken for iChat and Photobooth on my MacBook Pro. I get a black screen whenever I try to use the built-in iSight camera.
If I fire up Skype, the video works fine as it uses a different method to grab the camera image.
So for Apple folks perusing the forum, please add this to the list of issues. Thanks.

You're welcome, steve.
The difference between Software Update and standalone is explained here. The article also explains recovering from possible installation process interruptions, which can be the cause of some strange problems.
Be sure to repair permissions after the update. The 10.5.1 update installer left many permissions needing repair on my PPC Mac.
If the standalone installer does not help you, consider Possible hardware or software conflicts.
Once you eliminate potential conflicts, and if you have problems only with the two apps, those two apps may have been damaged somehow. Perhaps reinstalling the two apps will correct your problem?

  • The iOS 7.1 update doesn't fix the Wifi issue on iPhone 4S!

My wifi greyed out since iOS 7, the hair dryer did fix the problem for a day. But it greyed out again after a day, and now the 7.1 update doesn't fix that ****???

Have you followed the steps listed in iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim - Support - Apple?
If not, do so immediately.  Also, try: iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device.
The software update is not the cause of the problem.  It is possible, however, that your hardware (i.e., the wi-fi chip) had a hidden problem, probably with heat tolerance, and the heat generated from the iOS update (the processor creates more heat the harder it works) pushed it past its tolerance.

  • Photoshop CS5 update doesn't fix artifact problem in the menu bar !

    Hi to all,
I've installed the new update (december 7) recommended by Adobe, but that doesn't fix the Artifact problems in the menu bar !!!
More, with my Windows 7 Pro (French language), Photoshop CS5 video pilot create artifacts in the menu bar in several situations.
With Windows classic Theme chosen, theme management disabled:
    1. Opening a photo and applying a filter (especially Noise Reduction).
    2. Opening a photo and changing some preferences.
    3. Opening a photo with Windows 7 File Explorer working cause the pilot to crash with a black screen, ans followed by a message saying that Win 7 has recovered the video pilot.
To suppress most of the problems, I need to Activate "Themes" and choose an Aero theme or the Basic Theme.
I also need to activate some items that slow the PC !
    Very strange !
Could someone help, me please ?
    Have a Nice Day.
    Thierry

Yes, I've an Asus ENGT220/G/DI/1GD3, tried Windows default pilot, 2009 Asus pilot "nv19045_Win7Vista64.zip", and 2010 latest version "nv25919_Win7Vista64.zip", no change !
More, I've exchanged the video car by a "monster" ENGTX465 with it's driver, NO CHANGE !
    So what to do ?!
    Help, please !

  • Server 10.5.2 update doesn't fix SUS wonky listing

Well, I updated a couple of servers yesterday to v10.5.2, in the hopes that Software Update Services might work a little better (or at least, somewhat predictably!). While they may yet be much improved, one thing that appears to still be hosed is the listing of updates and their descriptions. If you change sorting of the list to anything other than the default (and I have no idea what method the default listing is-- seem random), the descriptions no longer match up w/ the updates listed. I'm quite surprised that this rather glaring bug wasn't addressed. Is everyone else seeing the same (flawed) behavior still?
    Fred

You're right, Mike...sort of! I am indeed administering from my PowerBook, which is running non-Server Mac OS X Leopard. I have updated it to v10.5.2 as well, but as far as I can tell, this doesn't update the Server Admin on my machine. And I'm not aware of any updaters...at least, Software Update doesn't show one.
If you look at the version # in Server Admin, it shows the same (10.5, build 279) on both a 10.5.2 server in question and my PowerBook. However, the server's Server Admin shows the listing correctly, but my PB does not! So, with a little more digging, I looked inside SA's package contents, and discovered the SWUpdate plugin is v10.5.1 and newer on the server than the v10.5 on my PowerBook. There's the answer, apparently.
Now, I'm not sure how you properly update the remote Server Admin program (my PowerBook in this case), aside from the dirty way of copying the actual binary. Then again, maybe I've overlooked some Server Admin update somewhere. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Fred

  • Not a hang - no misty screen, no hourglass, no 'Not Responding' - but it doesn't respond and updating doesn't fix it.

Was on some prehistoric version of Firefox as I only update when I have a problem with an old version. It started to become absurdly slow, so I updated to 19.0.2 as advised by the window that came up. However, if anything it's got worse. It starts with a blank window, then the 'Restore Session' page comes up, then it just doesn't let me click on or type anything at all. As I've said, if a hang is when the screen goes misty, the cursor becomes what used to be an hourglass but is now a circle and the words 'Not Responding' appear in the title bar, then this is not a hang because none of those things happen, but I can't do a damn thing with it. I've tried shutting it down through Task Manager, even though it's not using anything like the level of memory where that is usually necessary, and then restarting it, but to no avail. How can I get it working again?

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 19.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • 10.7.1 update doesn't fix my internet sharing problem

I've updated my Macbook (late 2008) to 10.7.1 today. I'm disappointed to find that the internet sharing issue still exists. I can ping websites through it, but wget never work. Google.com is accessible while other sites don't load on my iPod touch and Palm Pre Plus. But it did work fine within seconds after internet sharing was started. And internet sharing on my iMac with 10.6.8 works perfectly.
I'm using PPPoE to connect to the internet. I guess there are some problems with MTU (maximum transmission unit).
Don't tell me to change wifi channel or set password, it doesn't help.

Internet sharing worked on 10.7 after doing 1 tweak, that is by changing my Computer Name in internet sharing to something else other than the default one... however after upgrading to 10.7.1, the upgrade would mess up with the same tweaks again. It brought my Computer Name to its default, however when I clicked on edit it would give the changed name... I noticed that it has something to do with the IP Address but in any case I did the following and it works again for me on 10.7.1:
    1) Go to System Preferences>Sharing and click on Internet Sharing (don't 'tick' it yet!)
    2) After upgrading to 10.7.1, the Computer Name displayed on the Internet Sharing Screen would revert to the original, i.e. YourName's MacBook Pro. However, upon click edit next to the space where you can enter your Computer Name, it would give the name I had given while I was on 10.7.
    3) Now you just have to make sure that both names are identical (do not use the default name YourName's MacBook Pro). Please see snapshot below (yes, my Computer Name is 'Network-Error', so don't be surprised:))!
    4) Once you have confirmed that both names are identical, you are set to go and you may 'tick' the Internet Sharing option
    5) An arrow facing upwards will appear instead of the wireless icon on the top tray and your device such as an iPhone should connect without any issues (an IP address will be given).
Note: the other options that I have kept in the Wi-Fi Options tab are as follows:
    1) Network Name: should be identical to the one you have entered above
    2) Channel: 11
    3) Security: 40-bit WEP
    4) Password: I've entered a five-digit password that contains numbers
To confirm that its working for me, I've added a screenshot from my iPhone below:
It doesn't work for me. Thanks anyway.

  • EFI 1.1 update doesn't fix 2GB limit in XP 32

    Hi Guys,
I was hoping this would fix the 2GB limit but I still have it.
I wish apple would fix this one, maybe it is not possible.
    Cheers
    Andy

Stupid Q? here but have you tried to get updated drivers and using the *.inf to install them / manual add hardware if they do not wish to run the setup completely.
Likely Dell drivers for a similar spec machine might *.ini work after the r1xxxx file extracted and complained about it not being a Dell.
Should be in dell forlder on C: drive .
Also you can try a Demo of VMware or buy it and run it as it would give you direct hd / hardware access and then install windows onto vmware .
If it does the same = firmware if not then ??
You could also unplug all card except the video ram cpu etc. you get the idea and try to run install again as IRQ's are extremely poorly coded in any microsoft product and some graphics / sound drivers does interfere with it if bios is unwilling to comply.
    Either way hope this helps.

  • Update doesn't fix missing help menu?

Downloaded the latest update hoping to find that the missing help menu had been fixed, but I guess not. It seems that this should be available to those that downloaded Aperture 2 (.0.1 now) just like those who got the box. I have downloaded the help manual pdf, but don't know how to get it to show up in the program help menu.

what so funny about it especially for me as a native German:
now for years we have a pest called 'Deppenapostroph'(=dummy's apostrophe): you see anywhere Karsten's Diner, Karsten's Barbershop, Karsten's Applestore - which is wrong in German (Karstens Diner...)
so, funny enough, obviously we were able to export that apostrophe-too-much into your language .. in the new version of 'loss of its' .. how about her's and hi's?

  • 10.0.2 Update - Doesn't Fix Titles

10.0.2 Still has the same problem with title bubbles.  They may not revert to a "default font" but they randomly default back to saying "Title" instead of whatever was typed into them.
What a piece of crap FCPX is.

Have talked about this in the past and my experience up to now has been that projects started in 10.0.2 were ok. Not true anymore. Had one today where titles revert to default. The default can be the title or substitle line or the postion you left the title can go back to where the default postion is located. Seems to be limited to one title in project, but just as a test, quit several times and get various results. One occasion both title and subtitles defaulted, had one each and one where only the position switched. MacPro, 4 core, 16gb memory, working with Panasonic TM700 footage.

  • ProApp Update didn't fix DVDSP still menu issue

The update that came out this week didn't fix the field problem on still menus. Can we make a noise about this so maybe they will fix this soon.
I consider this a major bug, as 90% of the menus I make are still...I understand this is a problem for slideshows, too.
    Sincerely,
    Slade

This is the field issue on still menus (still images in general, as this includes slideshows). It is the intel/universal version. It distorts still menus, like it is only showing single fields instead of the properly interlaced frame. But the single field option isn't checked. I've filled out a bug report as have others and Apple is aware. I'm just venting because there was a pro app update this week and I burned an important DVD today and I have the same problems.

  • Have to force-quit Mail - Update did not fix

The update seemed to fix all of the issues I had with SL, except for the spinning wheels in Mail, and that Mail will not quit without a force-quit. It will even cancel a restart. Am I the only one left with this issue?

    Problem
Here is what is happening. Btw I am using a Dutch version so my apologies if I translate menu-options wrong.
Mail is opened at startup. When I want to quit (CMD-Q) mail, nothing happens and the program gets in a sort of wait state. The system doesn't say that mail is not responding anymore. When I open the Mail-menu several options are greyed-out, including the CMD-Q as if the program is waiting for something. After waiting 15 minutes still the same and the only way to end mail is by using the force quit option.
If Mail is opened and I use the red X to close the window it isn't possible to open it anymore. Stopping the normal way isn't possible either and I am in the same situation as above and need to force-quit Mail.
If I leave Mail open and want to shutdown the computer I have to force quit Mail, because otherwise I cannot shutdown anymore.
    *Solutions I've tried*
Using the Rebuild menu-option doesn't help.
I have downloaded the complete 10.6.2 dmg-file and re-installed it. This seemed to fix the problem, at least for a little while. But unfortunately after a day the same problem came back
    How can this be possible?
Is there anyone out there who has the same problem and knows how to fix this? Would it help to re-install the mailprogram? How do I do this?
This is happening on the new computer of my father. I have convinced him to make the switch from Windows, but this situation is making me feel a bit embarrassed

  • 2.1.2 update does not fix DVD Navigation issues :(

The FrontRow 2.1.2 update still doesn't fix the DVD navigation issues where sub menus on MANY DVDs are not navigable. Using the up / down keys on the keyboard or remote causes the Volume to change and not navigating the menus like it is supposed to.
This is a severe issue as it makes it impossible to play some DVDs or turn on the subtitles.

Yeah, I have experienced this as well. Ridiculous -- how could this issue not have come up in product testing by the time the software has reached version 2.0? The solution on Apple's end should be obvious. All 4 directional buttons must act only as directional commands when using a DVD, and all other functions (such as volume) can only be accessible by hitting MENU first to bring up a list of other options.
I'm all for simplicity, but this is the fault of the boneheaded 6-button Apple Remote. It requires their software to overload buttons with different commands depending on context, which is clearly an unacceptable limitation. They'll have to break down and roll out a proper remote with more discrete buttons one of these days and come to terms with the fact that shoehorning everything onto 6 buttons is not an elegant solution.

Words w friends is freezing up on the new iOS 7 software, the screen freezes leaving a black open space and doesn't fix itself.

Probably an issue with the App itself, not with iOS 7 or your iPad.  There will probably be an update coming out soon as there are many people having issues with that App

Try to reset the iPod by  pressing the home and sleep button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data doing a reset, but it can clear some glitches after installing new software or apps.
