10.5.4 and AFP Stability..

does AppleFileServer running well on 10.5.4 server ?
AppleFileServer CPU usage don't crease anymore until crash ???
my config
MacPro 2 x 2.8GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon with 8GB RAM installed. all the Share are stored on a RAID Level 6 connected over an ATTO UL5D PCIe SCSI card.
we are still running 10.5.3 and every time a client-computer
is copying heavy stuff, like folders at least 300mb, the cpu load for AppleFileServer crease until crash !!!
this occurs only when I'm copying files over the network or from an internal HD to the shares where are located on the RAID !
any body out there who can confirm that this problem has been resolved with 10.54 ?

there is the system.log during the crash. we had to kill him on the turn on button …
when the AppleFileServer use 600% CPU it's the only way to shut down him !

• Leopards, Tigers, and AFP (oh my)

In our lab, we have several netboot machines and afp mounted home directories; so, users can login to any of the network machines and have their home environment.
Some of the computers were just updated to Leopard, while some remain with Tiger. After using iCal in Leopard, it seems that the next time the user logs into a Tiger machine, none of the updated information is in iCal (and, vice versa). Is there any way to keep iCal data in sync regardless of the OS that the user has most recently logged in to?

• How did Apple speed up 802.11ac and AFP in 10.8.5?

I understand that Apple sped up 802.11ac networking and AFP (Apple File Sharing) with 10.8.5, primarily to benefit Mac Book Airs. I find, playing with 10.8.5 and later, that this is actually a general speed up of local networking that also benefits Ethernet transfers through a gigabit switch.
In particular I ran a test. I have two computers involved, each of which is dual boot between two OS versions. The server machine, which was accessed to retrieve a large multigigabyte file in the test, is a Mac Mini 2011 with Lion 10.7.4 and Mountain Lion 10.8.5. The client machine is a early 2011 MacBook Pro, with Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and Mavericks 10.9.1. All tests had both machines wired to a Netgear R7000 router featuring gigabit LAN prots with cat 5e cables.
Test Case 1: Client running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 connected to Server running Lion 10.7.4: I was able to copy a large multigigabyte file from the server at a rate of 1.43 metric gigabytes (base 1000) per minute, achieving a real word data transfer speed of 190 mbps, far below the practical limit of gigabit Ethernet.
Test Case 2: Client running Mavericks 10.9.1 connected to Server running Mountain Lion 10.8.5: I was able to copy a large multigigabyte file from the server at a rate of 6.23 metric gigabytes (base 1000) per minute, achieving a real word data transfer speed of 828 mbps, which I figure is about the practical limit of gigabit Ethernet.
My question, is what did Apple do to tune the networking in 10.8.5? Are there TCP IP parameters I can change in the older OS's so they can do Ethernet fast also? Parameters I can tune in sysctl.conf? I am hoping a real network guru can come on here to advise on some advanced techniques I can use, since I have eliminated any question of the speed of my router, my computers, or my hard drives by the results I achieved in Test Case 2.
There are reasons I want to keep the older OSs around and would like them to network fast also.
(Also, for any/all OS versions, are there networking parameters that I can tune to speed up transfers that involve a very large number of very small files?)
Thanks

• Can smb and afp coexist on the same host?

Greetings all!
I've been using Macs and OSX for a year. And recently I bought another MBP so I am seriously considering Time Machine backups. I have a Linux home server running Ubuntu 12.04 and Samba and my previous MBP running Mountain Lion connects to it happily without any problem. But my trouble started when I tried to setup afp on the same box.
I followed this post and this post and got the fake time capsule showing in Time Machine without any problem. But soon I found myself unable to connect to the old samba shares. The smb host now displays as a Time Capsule. If I click on that OSX will say 'failed to connect'.
As I understand there are 2 pieces involved on the server side, avahi to broadcast the service info and netatalk to provide the service itself. It's a bit like nmbd and smbd in Samba. If this is true then it's somewhat understandable that OSX can not display the same host as 2 different types of services at the same time. So I stopped avahi-daemon and very soon the old Samba shares appeared again.
I am able to connect to both services using command+k but I would rather have them running normally so that my wife will be able to use them without extra tech support. Can anyone tell me if what I said above is true and/or if there is a graceful way around this? If answer is no then I will have to create a virtual machine or nic alias just for time machine and I think it's quite a waste.
Thanks!

I don't quite understand why people buying non-Apple devices should not expect OSX to work with them
Because Apple has no control over 3rd parties. They can do what they want. If Apple publishes a new authentication mechanism in 2002, the 3rd party doesn't have to implement it. That isn't Apple's fault. If they do get around to supporting it in 2009 and then some 4th party doesn't bother to use the 2009 code in 2011, Apple still can't do anything about that. If anyone else wants to advertise, and support, Time Machine compatibility, they are welcome to do that. They definitely have the advertising part down, the support, not so much.
There is a time when apple only worked with apple but that aparently was not sustainable. And that's why now Apple is embracing smb
Apple's goal is to choose the best solution for its customers. Sometimes that is a proprietary connection or protocol and sometimes it is something industry standard. In all cases, there has to be some cut off for testing and support. That is why Apple eventually stops supporting its own hardware and technologies at a certain point. That is also why Apple will support SMB as deployed by Microsoft but isn't going to waste much time on home-built Linux servers.
(it's said even samba was used shortly on OSX, not quite sure) and allow users to install windows on macs. Even OSX itselt is based on FreeBSD and uses quite a lot of open source components.
Apple uses a lot of open source software. Samba was one of those projects. Unfortunately, the people that made those products didn't want Apple using them so they changed the licensing to prohibit Apple (and pretty much only Apple) from using their source code. That is why some of the open source packages in OS X are stuck in a 2007 version. That is also why Apple abandonned Samba and wrote its own SMB implementation.
OS X is not based on FreeBSD. It has a BSD-flavoured POSIX layer, but it is a distinct operating system at its core.
IMHO there is no magic in throwing money at propiretary hardware/software or praying to Steve Jobs. If something is not working, it must be that there is a bug in the code or the design. And neither OSX nor Macs are built by God, which means they are bugged as other software/hardware.
I'm confused. When did anyone say anything about praying to Steve Jobs or divine technology? You asked about using Linux as a Time Machine server. I suggested you avoid that if you value your data. I also asked why you would want to keep running Linux now that you have a Mac. A Mac can do anything Linux can do with a fraction of the effort.
The answer is simple, Macs can not do what I want.
Which is?
Withe a standard mATX case I can have quite a few 3.5" drive bays while there is only one 2.5" in a Mac mini. And with Ubuntu/Debian, getting/updating the software or the system is quite easy, just one or a few lines of apt commands, not quite possible with OSX.
That's certainly true. OS X updates itself without having to run any apt commands.
If you must compile something from the source to get a Linux running then something must be seriously wrong.
My thoughts exactly. But perhaps you didn't follow me entirely. Apt, yum, etc don't have everything one needs to setup something as fancy as, I don't know, a web server. While I did have to compile a number of things from source, I had to actually edit the source a couple of times as well.
The best thing I love about Linux is openess. You can customize almost everything and change it whatever way you want. With Mac, for example the 2013 Retina MBP I just bought, it's not even possible to change the power button behavior, which is very annoying.
Then why did you buy a Mac? That's no big secret. Some people like not have to configure everything just to get it running. I have other things to do than edit config files.
Back to my original question. I think the problem is not quite with compatibility of Bonjor but rather whether OSX can show this or not. Imagine you have a smb share and afp share on the same host, with the same name, how would OSX display it? And which icon will OSX use to display the host? I can not think of the answer so if you know please tell me.
OS X will just display it like it display any server. One of your links event has instructions on how to pick the icon you want to fake. If you are running both services then I am not sure which one it would try to connect with. Neither of your services are native, not matter how much they try to fake it. If you wanted a specific service you would have to manually use the correct protocol in Finder > Go > Connect to Server. However, bot of those links were posted before Mavericks. Obviously they don't work anymore. It's Linux. It's open. Right? So fix it and post it on your own blog. I do not know what modifications you would have to make to either Samba or Netatalk to make them work with Mavericks.
If all you need is to allow your wife to connect to one specific protocol, then manually connect to that service, saving your password in the keychain, and create an alias by Command-option dragging the server to some other folder. Then, she can just double-click on the alias to connect to the network.
Now, if you really want to be clever, you can setup an automount to that service instead. Then the server will be mounted and unmounted as needed.

• Key-based SSH Authentication and AFP Home Directories

I'm setting up some users with AFP home directories (hosted on an Xserve, with a couple of G5 towers as Open Directory clients). When logging in on the console on a G5 tower, the home directories work fine. The users can SSH into the Xserve using SSH key authentication. However, the users can not SSH into the G5 towers using SSH key authentication, and are instead asked for passwords - presumably because the AFP home directory is mounted with guest access (and thus the keys are unreadable) before the password is entered.
Is there a known workaround for this? A different way of setting up the home directory mounting? I don't particularly want to go the mobile home directory route, because (among other things), as far as I know, mobile home directories only sync when a user logs into the GUI. If that's not the case (that is, if they will sync when a user logs into the machine with SSH), then I guess that would be a reasonable solution.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

That was just speculation on my part; I'm not sure exactly what's happening. I do know that until the user authenticates, the entire automount is mounted with guest access... and that the user can't authenticate until the key file can be read. It may be the case that I was just encountering some transient failure or the like, however.

• OES 11 sp 2 and AFP

I have a new OES11 sp 2 server running on an esxi host. AFP was loaded but I could not access it from a mac 10.7.x. I remembered from the early days of afp that there was a context file and suspected that that was the issue. So I researched and found the reference to enter this using iMngr, so I did that. Saved the changes and test. I still couldn't connect. So, I suspected I needed to reload the afp server. I used iMngr to stop the server which I did, but now I can't get it started. In fact, now when is select the server I receive the following error. Error: Storage Error
This user does not have the correct credentials to authenticate to the CIMOM client.
I am authenticate into iMngr with admin rights. How can I get the afp server running again?

In addition, was this a new install of OES11 SP2 or upgrade from an
earlier version?
For OS X Lion (and later), check that AUTH_UAM in
/etc/opt/novell/afptcpd/afptcpd.conf is set to DHX2. With a new install
of OES11 SP2 that should already be set.
Also note that any users wanting to access the server via AFP (or CIFS)
need to have a Universal Password set.
As for the CIMOM error, check that your iManager plug-ins are
up-to-date, in particular the storage-related ones. See TID 3417215[1].
If they are then see TID 7010295[2].

• 10.5.2 totally broke SMB and AFP shares (and kerberos) on my network

Hey Folks,
I'm really kicking myself for not testing 10.5.2 first... this is a disaster for me.
After installing, I can no longer access any SMB or AFP shares (regardless of host OS) using my kerberos ticket (granted from Tiger Server).
If I use the GO menu and Connect To Server it also fails, almost instantly. The server logs suggest its not even trying.
I have totally lost access to all of my shares, ssh with kerberos is broken...
Anyone else seeing problems?
Leopard in general introduced some issues with the local KDC on each machine trusting mdns...its a way to make back to my mac work ... and it broke SMB for me and a lot of people, but it wasn't the end of the world since I was sharing everything via AFP as well. Now that AFP is broken too I'm at a loss...100% down.

Something I have been messing with is my mit.edu.Kerberos file, located in System/Library/Preferences.
Take a Tiger machine, and use Text Editor to look at it's mit.edu.Kerberos file. Then, do the same with the Leopard machine. I've been trying to get Leopard to work with the Tiger kerberos settings, without luck so far. But it's a step in the right direction. Try this for starters:
On my system, when I try to use Connect to Server with the Finder, it gives me the vague "Volume Couldn't Mount" error.
Make a backup of mit.edu.Kerberos on your Leopard machine (use a test machine if possible, not a production machine). Then, delete the original file and reboot.
Try to COnnect TO server again. On my machine, I'm given a login prompt, which if I re-authenticate, I'm able to connect to the share. Your previously deleted mit.edu.Kerberos file has been recreated after this point. I'm not sure how permanent of a solution it is, however.
But it's something to tinker with if you're so inclined.

• Open Directory and AFP

Hello, I have been having some problems setting up Tiger Server to have the clients home directory hosted on the server. When the client tries to login, it gives them an error saying they are unable to log on at this time because of afp. If anyone could help or point me to a guide it would be appreciated.

Hi
For 10.4 Server you should really post in the 10.4 OD Forum here:
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=713
However it does not really matter. You may find what follows useful:
A Simplified Method for Deploying Open Directory Services
A centralized authentication and authorization service providing automounting home folders for network users and control for service administrators using managed preferences. Ideal for Schools, Colleges, Libraries, Universities and in some cases, Private Companies
These instructions are for the GUI only with no manual configuration and hardly any recourse for the command line. These instructions also assume that this will be the only server on the network.
Substitute appropriately the examples given for your situation. The example used is for a pretend school called ‘High School’
Assuming you have installed the Server Software and on restart the Server Setup Assistant has launched. We’ll use Administrator as the long name and admin as the short name with admin as the password for the default Server Administrator account (UID 501). We’ll assign a fixed IP address of 172.16.16.254, a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and the router/gateway IP address offering access to the internet as 172.16.16.1. Key in any ISP supplied DNS Server IP addresses in the DNS Servers field in the Network Preferences Control Panel. The server name will be server. You will see the server name in the Sharing Preferences Pane (server.local) as well as Server Admin > Computers & Services. The Server can be reached either using this name, its IP address, its loopback address and later on, after the DNS Service has been configured, its Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). Don’t start any services apart from Remote Desktop, save the configuration as a text file and restart the Server. After the restart log in using the newly created System Administrator account details. Now would be a good time to test internet connectivity as well as running Software Update and installing all the updates relevant for the server.
Start simple file services first: AFP and if necessary Windows. If there is more than one PC already on the network switch off Workgroup Master Browser and Domain Master Browser found in Server Admin > Windows > Advanced > Services. Create a test user in the local server directory (NetInfo) and test using a client computer to access the default share points: Users, Groups, Public. Don’t be tempted to delete these folders as the server will complain. If you don’t want to use these you can simply unshare the share points and create new ones. You could for example create share points on a connected XServe RAID and share these instead. Save any changes made.
The instructions that follow are for simple DNS Settings which will do to successfully deploy an Open Directory Master
Click on DNS Service Settings > Zones > click the + icon > General. The Server IP address will already be there, key in the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). This can either be a real world domain name or a pretend domain name. As long as it resembles fully qualified domain names it will do, avoid using .local.
In this example we will use server.highschool.sch.org.
Save the changes
Now click Start Service. You will have to click Start Service twice as Server Admin does not start the service the first time as that is when the config files are written. These are kept in two locations: /etc/host.config and /var/named. The second time you click Start Service you will get the green light. Now set the Logging level to Debug and save the changes again. Launch System Preferences > Network > Configure > TCP/IP > key in the Server’s own IP address 172.16.16.254 in the DNS Servers field and remove any other IP address. Apply and save changes. Launch a web browser and see if you can get on the internet. Inspect the DNS logs in Server Admin and you will see entries starting with createfetch as well as received control command channel status: ready. By this time you should be on the internet using the server’s own IP address instead of ones supplied by your ISP or Router. Test and qualify the DNS Service by launching terminal and issuing the host command:
host server.highschool.sch.org
server.highschool.sch.org has address 172.16.16.254
host 172.16.16.254
254.16.16.172.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer host172-16-16-254.in-addr.server.highschool.sch.org
This qualifies the forward and reverse pointers for the DNS Service
Remember that a properly configured and qualified DNS service is crucial to the more advanced technologies available on OSX Server. Apple themselves recommend using DNS even if the Server is providing simple file services such as AFP
If you want the Server to issue IP addresses then consider using the DHCP Service. If your router is already doing this then there is no need to bother just yet. Once you get comfortable and familiar with the Server you could look at this later on.
Back to Server Admin
Click on Open Directory > Settings > Select Standalone and now select Open Directory Master. As soon as you do this you will be prompted to create the Directory Administrator account, by default diradmin. You can’t use the standard administrator account. You dont have to use diradmin as the name you can use another name, but don’t be tempted to use admin. For this example we will leave it as it is as well as defining the password as diradmin. If DNS Services are correctly configured you will see the Kerberos Realm field already filled in for you and it will look like this: SERVER.HIGHSCHOOL.SCH.ORG. As you can see it will be the FQDN but in capitalized form. The search base will be automatically filled in also and it will look like this: dc=server,dc=highschool,dc=sch,dc=org.
Save changes.
Launch Directory Access /Applications/Utilities and click on LDAPv3, authenticate if required to do so. Inspect the configuration setting there and you should see the Server’s loopback address 127.0.0.1 has been entered as a New Configuration. This is normal and gets added upon promotion. Now launch Workgroup Manager and select the appropriate Directory Node LDAPv3/127.0.0.1. Authenticate using the newly created Directory Administrator account: diradmin. If everything has gone well you will see the Directory Administrator user (UID 1000) already there. Create a new user called Andrew Barton, short name: andybarton, UID 1025, password andyb, click Save. Select Sharing and make sure that the default Users folder is set to share, now click on Network Mount and click the lock, authenticate using the diradmin account and set the Users home folder to automount Home Directories. Click Save. Click Accounts, select Andy Barton, click Home, verify that the Home Folder path says afp://server.highschool.sch.org/Users, select this and click Create Home Now followed by Save. Navigate to the Finder, double click the Server hard drive, double click the Users folder and verify that the folder andybarton has been created. Double clicking on this folder will show the usual set of home folders with no entry signs on all of them apart from public and sites. Carry on populating the LDAP Directory Node with desired users. Once you have finished click on the Groups tab and create a group and call it Music Class, populate this group with desired users. We will look at Managed Preferences (MCX) for this group later on.
In this example Music Class has 30 iMacs. Use the first iMac as a model for all the others. Create an administrator account on the first iMac with a strong password. Avoid using Administrator and admin as these could conflict with the Server admin account. Don’t use a User Account already created on the Server. I will use MC Administrator as the long name and mcadmin as the short name, switch off auto log-in. Install all relevant site license software on this mac. Set the iMac’s name in the Sharing Preferences Pane to iMac01, the .local part will be automatically filled in for you, save all changes. Run all software updates available for the mac, restart the mac. You can now use this mac as the ‘Golden Mac’ – a template for all the other iMacs. You can target disk mode this first mac to the second mac and after cloning change the name of the second mac to iMac02. Or you could image iMac01 to an external firewire drive, connect the drive to the server and use Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) to push out the image to all the other macs. You could also use System Image Utility, PackageMaker and NetInstall. As you can see there are numerous ways of doing this.
Back to iMac01
Log in using the mcadmin account, launch Directory Access (Applications/Utilities), click on the lock and authenticate, select LDAPv3, click Configure, deselect ‘Add DCHP-supplied LDAP servers to automatic search policies’, click New and key in either the IP address 172.16.16.254 or better still its FQDN. If you are going to use the Server’s FQDN then make sure the Server’s IP address is in the clients DNS Servers field. Server discovery should be fairly quick, you will see iMac01.local’s computer in the first field and you will be prompted for a network user name and password, don’t bother with this just click OK and then continue, you will then see the Server Configuration in the Services window, click OK. Click on Authentication and verify that Custom Path is displayed, you should see /LDAPv3/172.16.16.254 or the server FQDN as the second Directory Domain displayed (the first one will be the local NetInfo node and will be grayed out). Do the same for the Contacts tab, click OK and quit Directory Access, select log out from the Apple menu and you should now see a log in window displaying the local mcadmin account as well as ‘Other’. Click Other, key in andybarton as the name and andyb as the password, you should now be logged into the Home Folder for that user on the server. Launch TextEdit, type a few words and save the Untitled document to the Documents folder, now log out. Go to Workgroup Manager, select Sharing, select Users, select andybarton, select Documents and you should see the Untitled document grayed out.
Managed Preferences or MCX
Select the Music Class Group, click on Preferences > Finder > Views > Always > Default View and select the smallest setting for the dock size, click Done, go back to the client and log in again as andybarton and see if the dock size has changed. The order in which managed preferences take precedence are:
User
Computer
Group
If a setting is defined in Group and also defined differently in Users, the Users setting will take precedence. Managed Preferences can be accumulative also. What can be managed for Users and Groups are the same. Computer Lists are the same with the addition of Energy Saver. Play with these settings as seems appropriate to you. If you decide to manage clients using Computer Liststhen create your own (by type and location), try not to use the default lists. The same advice applies to Network Views.
As time goes by and you become more familiar and comfortable you can start integrating the Software Update Service, NetBoot/NetInstall, Mail Services, Print Services and any other Service that seems appropriate to you.
Hope this helps, Tony

• Network Preferences Crashing and AFP Isuues

I have ran into a problem with my User Account on Mac OSX 10.4.11, I can no longer make changes to my Network Preferences, as soon as I hit the Apply button, I get the Beach Ball and I have to force quite System Preferences, If I check he Console I am getting the following message:
Dec 30 08:19:21 MarshallMacbook /Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/MacOS/System Preferences: NetInfo timeout connecting to local domain, sleeping
I am also having a problem copying files using AFP from this Account to my iMac, but no problems wih my iMac copying files to my Macbook Pro.
I have re-ran the Combo Update 10.4.11, I have repaired permissions and ran Disk Repair using my Restore CD and the problem is still present.
I created another user account with Administrative Rights and this account works just fine, I can edit Network Preferences and copy files using AFP, does anyone know the solution? I have a feeling t is the Net Info Database, but have no clue how to repair or delete it.

Are you out of HD or RAM space?

• IP and AFP service failover

Hi,
I've been playing around with IP Failover and this seems to work.
I have the following setup using Xsan 2.1 and OS X Server 10.5.4
Server 1 (OD Master)
Server 2 (OD Replica)
MetaData Server1 (Master)
MetaData Server2 (Backup)
FC Raid
FC Switch
The OD replica takes on the IP address of the Main server if it goes down but I'm struggling to work out how to keep the AFP and sharepoint config replicated on the backup server without manually duplicating any changes.
My hope is to get a failover setup where by clients connected to sharepoints get as seamless a transfer to the backup server as possible.
Has anyone got this working ?

Unless the protocol/service has its own mechanism for synchronization/replication, there's no built-in way to synchronize service-level configurations.
This means that for services such as AFP, HTTP, SMB and more you're going to need to replicate your changes manually.
In some cases this can be done by copying the configuration files, but in others it will mean doing it twice.

• Weird issues with file share using both SMB and AFP?

I use my Xserve with 10.4 server primarily as a file server (with a huge RAID array attached via Ultra320 SCSI). I've served files from this server over SMB ("Windows" sharing) to both PCs and Macs for a few years now with no big issues. The files are being shared in a collaborative environment with extensive user accounts and ACLs set up.
I would like to turn on AFP for these same file shares, so those accessing with a Mac can have the added benefits of AFP over SMB. However, I've heard some rumors of some complicated issues developing from the use of both AFP and SMB together on the same folders, in a mixed environment.
The rumors I've heard are things that would happen rarely but enough for it to be significant. For example, a file created over SMB and then edited over AFP would have some problems being re-edited over SMB again, due to some complicated feature that the rumor is unable to explain (something with a resource fork or file locking?). Maybe something weird that just involves the Adobe Creative Suite?
Anyway, I figured I'd throw this out there. Anyone who serves files over both protocols to a varied set of computers and applications having weird issues? Or is everything working for you? Thanks in advance.

re:crop
It's coming in as cropped with no way to fix it that I can see.
Pressing space or opening in preview shows the full image but if it gets anywhere near Photoshop it comes in auto-cropped.
I'm starting to this it's a bug and will be reporting it to Adobe.

• SAP Signature Design and AFP

Hi everyone,
I read through the signature design by SAP and it appears they did a lot of work to bring this new harmonized and compelling UI into the Portal.
My question is: since they put so much effort into this exercise (mood boards, analysis, R&D), how much are we supposed to invest into its customization (I mean reworking the UI to suit customer's needs)?
What's the guideline and the advised approach to follow?
Thank you.
Regards,
Marco

Hi Marco (or Ben according to your login??),
About a year ago I spent a bit of time getting the SAP Signature to look pretty sexy for an external facing portal (i.e. Making it not look like it was SAP branded).  Back then it was a little unstable, but by the go-live date; it was pretty trivial to make it look fantastic.  For example, it would take about 2 hours to apply all the changes made when a new support pack was released with changes to the theme.
The trick is just understanding how all the content is used; what is available to modify within the theme editor, and what needs to be modified directly in the exported theme ZIP file.  This obviously takes a little experience editing themes and learning AFP; but it's well worth it - as it looks and feels great - not to mention once it's cached - runs very smoothly.
Hope that is of some help,
Matt

• Allan variance and bias stability measurement?

Hello every one,
I would like to do some measurement on  MEMS microaccelerometers. They provide analog
output voltage and are interface with a data acquisition board
through the analog input channel.
Does any one know if there are predefined programs (routines) in
LabView to measure the bias stability and plot the Allan Variance of
the measured data?
Thanks.
BVA

Hello BVA,
I don’t believe there are any built in functions to do what you are looking for. However, it looks like a third party source has posted some code that will compute the Allan Variance for you.

• Why does my Menu Bar is scrolling from left to right when I call it and not stabilizing?

I have an an XP Windows system and I use Firefox as my default Browser, I suddenly found that my browaer is hit by something that makes the Menu Bar when I try to use it scrolling all menus from left to right so quickly that I can't point to any choice and keep doing this till I end it by mouse, also the information in the Autocomplete are not accessible as they don't show when trying to get them either by mouse or by the down key. I don.t know what to do putting in consideration that I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it and this did not solve the problem.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
