10.5.5 Screen Sharing Toolbar

Hello all.
I have a question regarding the new 10.5.5 update and its impact on the screen sharing toolbar.
Prior to the ARD Update and the 10.5.5 one, my toolbar in screen sharing was enabled to show controls such as:
-Quality (Black and white, greyscale, 16 bit color, 32 bit color)
-Full screen
-Send/ Get Remote contents of clipboard
But now has only
-Send/Get Clipboard contents.
I got a backup of it on a mac pro and copied it and trashed the preferences to it but it still doesn't allow me to chage the quality or go into fullscreen mode to a remote computer.
Any Ideas? I really don't want to have to do an archive and install...

I re-installed leopard (Archive and install) and put the app on my external, then put it on my internal HD.
i also reworked the preference file:
(drag to ~/Library/Preferences)

You can download the following also (the working one)
Application-Unnzip and Drag to /System/Library/Coreservices and restart a few times-

  • Screen sharing toolbar

I used the following command to enable the toolbar in the screen sharing application.
    defaults write com.apple.ScreenSharing \
'NSToolbar Configuration ControlToolbar' -dict-add 'TB Item Identifiers' \
    '(Scale,Control,Share,Curtain,Capture,FullScreen,GetClipboard,SendClipboard,Qual ity)'
At first a floating toolbar would appear in the upper left-hand corner of the screen sharing environment -- even when I was running in full-screen mode. However, somewhere along the way the toolbar cease to be floating and is permanently attached to the screen sharing window.
The problem arises when I am using screen sharing in full screen mode. Once I enter that mode, the toolbar becomes completely invisible and the only way I can get access to my local machine is to reboot it.
Can anyone tell me how to make the toolbar detach itself from the screen sharing window?
    Thanks,
    -sisler

  • Unable to use clipboard during screen sharing

I was wondering how to use the clipboard function on the screen sharing toolbar. I have all Macs, running leopard. I've tried copying a file on my iMac, then remoting into my son's Macbook with screen sharing. On the screen sharing toolbar, there is a button labeled "send contents to remote clipboard" I click that and can see the file in the remote clipboard. But, when I right click "Paste item" on the remote desktop, I get an error "The items on the clipboard cannot be pasted to this location. One or more of the items may have been deleted or are no longer available"
I got a feeling I'm doing something wrong, but not sure what it is. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have that problem in making bookmarks. I try again, the error pops up and the bookmark is created.
There are a number of problems with Reader/Acrobat and MS Office working together. Each company points fingers at each other and refuse to work together to solve the problem. So we the users pay the price.
Reader and Acrobat are not the only programs having problems working with Microsoft.

  • Screen sharing on startup ?

    Hi all,
Is it possible to start a screen sharing connection to another Mac upon booting up ? Like, a script that is added to the startup items ?
    Thanks !

#1 Can you use the Terminal? #2 Here goes
On my Desktop I made a file with Pico:
    #!/bin/bash
    open vnc://USERnamegoshere:password@ip of the othermac
Save as whatever name you want file and then chmod u+x whatever name you want file
Ok here is the plist that I used to open screen sharing from Leo to Tiger:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>Label</key>
    <string>com.dougp.userstartup</string>
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
    <array>
    <string>/Users/dougp/Desktop/testsc</string>
    <string>open</string>
    </array>
    <key>RunAtLoad</key>
    <true/>
    </dict>
    </plist>
The Tiger machine has to have, at minimum AppRemDTop going. And if you are going Leo to Leo, then ScrSharing going on the other mac. I don't know how to turn that stuff all on in a script. The plist goes in /Users/yourname/Library/LaunchAgents
Run launchctl load com.dougp.userstartup.plist You should be able to restart your machine and you'll get a screen from the connect to server from toolbar asking usual. If you want to avoid the password item then, well that's another story with sudoers.
Obviously you have to change some names. Now what have I forgot to enter here?
This I forgot. testsc is the Desktop executable(the Pico file)

  • Start Screen Sharing Connection in Observe Mode?

    Hi,
I've been able to add the toolbar button to switch screen sharing between the control and observe modes using tips I've found around the web.
I need to be able to check on what's going on with one of the computers on my home network without taking control of the mouse and keyboard.
Screen sharing defaults to control mode on connection, does anyone know if there's a way to make it default to observe or if not then to start a specific connection in observe?
    TIA,
    Rob.

  • PLEASE HELP, SOMEONE REMOTELY VIEWING/SCREEN SHARING MY MACBOOK?

Hi - I urgently need help from anyone who knows about this issue - I am a very basic macbook user, and don't really know about all the different programmes etc. I believe someone ( the guy who sold me the macbook, who told me he was a mac repair person and programmer) has been hacking into the computer, using the remote access - there is a programmed called SCREEN SHARING but I cannot access it - and a bunch of other files such as odsagent etc - not sure if these indicate he is using the screen sharing/ remote access to my mac.
The reason that I believe he is accessing the mac, is that he downloaded all the files, so would clearly have access to passwords etc, there were loads of his old files, that showed pictures of people saying " target", and old files showing he was studying comuter/ mac programming. The first time I went online all of a sudden the computer froze, and two green lights showed on the num lock key and the shift key I think, the two keys were frozen, and the keyboard basically wouldnt respond, but the activity continued on the screen. This has happened a number of times since then, usually just randomly the keyboard freezes, and if you wait a while it goes back to normal - the mouse works fine, then one day it keep sort of freezing/ getting stuck/ pausing for no reason - the next day its fine again. He put in a load of software, which he has obviously been able to get round the need of liscening numbers, as he did not provide me with them. one day I saw a name "macbook pro" suddenly appear, and that it was tryin to connect/ share or something - this has never happened to me before with my old mac- it was like another computer was connecting/ sharing with my computer without my permission - this was when I was online. This has not happened since.
I am scared he is accessing the computer, because these things that happened, and because there is loads and loads of files and programmes, which sound suspicious, i dont know what they do, and I just have this dogey feeling about this guy, and the fact that there is screen viewing/ remote management files etc which I cant access, but I am not sure if they are being accessed.
PLEASE HELP - I FEEL LIKE MY PRIVACY IS BEING INVADED - I was speaking to my family on Skype and the green lights came on/ it froze, I continued with the conversation, but later I felt like he might have been watching.
If anyone can recommend an expert in the London area, that can check the mac to see there is nothing on there that is being used to remotely control/ screen share my mac, I would be very grateful - its just horrible using your computer, and always being worried someone is invading your privacy, and and downloading your files etc.
Sorry if I sould paranoid, but I have a strong feeling something is not right here.
Many thanks for your help in advance.

Since you don't know much about computers, disconnect your internet (wireless or wired) to prevent future unwanted access. While it is smart to contact Apple Communities, this is a criminal matter and you should consider taking the matter to the police. People like this will not stop with you. You need to list the private data that may be stolen and take action (cancel credit cards, change passwords, bank accounts, phone numbers, whatever you have cause to be worried about). If you can afford it, buy a new hard drive, remove the old one, and install OS X from scratch. Give your old hard drive to the cops. Make sure you turn the Firewall on (click the Apple up on the toolbar top left > System Preferences > Security) and uncheck any "Sharing" options (System Prefernces > Sharing). This event you are experiencing is unfortunate, and rare, but with a pro-active attitude you will come through it fine - and wiser.
    EDIT
dgambler is right in that by purchasing a Snow Leopard disk (presuming you don't already have one) and performing a fresh install (it is easy) is a sure way to "take back" the controls of your Mac. You will need to study online tutorials for "wiping the drive" rather than a simple install. But you should let the police look at the hard drive before you do that - they will be able to see exactly what this person did.

  • Remote access without screen sharing?

I have an iMac and a MacBook Air. I'd like to remotely access the iMac from the Air on my local network, so I can take advantage of the iMac's superior processing power and file storage, while sitting in a different room. The problem is that my iMac has a 27" monitor and a 24" secondary display, so screen sharing doesn't work very well on my Air's tiny 13" monitor.
My question is, is there any software that would allow me to remotely login to the iMac and give me a Mac OS interface, but size that interface appropriately for the MacBook Air, rather than just showing me the actual desktop of the iMac. Basically, I want it to pretend like the notebook's monitor is the monitor connected to the remote mac and still execute all the code on the remote mac. Extra points if I can essentially instantiate a second instance of the same account on the iMac, so I can be logged in locally and remotely at the same time, with the same account, but with different looking desktops.

I presume that your issue is your viewing two very small side-by-side screens on an already small screen. There is a drop down menu on the screen sharing window itself (that is, the window of the screen sharing app running on the MBAir, on the left side in the vicinity of the toolbar) where you can select to display either the left screen, the right screen, or both screens. I have a (employer-owned) 17" MBP that accesses a (employer-owned) dual-screen iMac and find that switching between left and right screens is not too bad of a compromise, in exchange for being able to actually see (and do) anything on the iMac from the MBP's screen sharing app.

  • Screen sharing in Yosemite - lots of weird graphical artifacts

I have Yosemite installed on both my MBP 2013 Retina and a brand-new Mac Mini (headless). I control the Mini from the MBP with standard built-in screen sharing. It works, but visually it's really bad! Often the remote menu bar goes black, and only repaints (in sections) if I hover the mouse over it. Often the toolbars of various windows take on the color of the desktop and do not display any of their widgets - again until I hover over them. Dragging windows sometimes leaves permanent "trails" and other graphical residue.
The Mini is pretty much running on default settings (although I did set it up by cloning the backup of my previous Mini). In particular, I've not activated any Accessibility options, nor am I using the "dark menu bar" general option.
Is anyone else seeing this? Or can someone suggest some troubleshooting?
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)
    2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
    10.10 (14A389)
    Mac mini (Late 2014)
    2.6 GHz Intel Core i5
    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Intel Iris (null)
    10.10 (14A389)

Yesterday, for the first time since before starting this thread, I restarted the Mac Mini. Suddenly, everything seems fine.
The reason I restarted the Mini was that I noticed (using Activity Monitor) that 6.5GB of my RAM was in use, and SystemUIServer itself was using 2GB. I've haven't been using the Mini for much of anything recently, so this made no sense. Restarting immediately brought back my menu bar (which had been black), and I don't see any artifacts using Screen Sharing.
*shrug* we'll see. If you have this problem and haven't restarted the remote machine, try that.

  • *real* full screen in screen sharing??

    Hi,
How can I view the screen of the remote desktop (using screen sharing) in REAL full screen mode, i.e. without seeing any of the menus or docks of the host computer. Currently, if I choose "view-full screen" I still get a menu and the dock for the host computer.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    ColonelPanik,
What six buttons are you talking about? When I open a Screen Sharing session, it opens in a standard Mac OS window and I can only see the standard window frame, with three buttons (red, yellow and green) on left, the name of the computer to which I connected in the middle, and the white button on the right that toggles the toolbar on and off.
The toolbard, by the way, has only three buttons: fit screen in window (which is not "view in full screen"), get remote clipboard contents, and send remote clipboard contents.
I do not see these 6 buttons you are referring to. I am also using 10.5.7.
    Thanks,
    BZdM

  • Snow Leopard and Screen sharing question

I followed the information in this article to use screen sharing between 2 SL computers and I can make the basic SS work.  However, two items from this article don't function as described.  It is an older article and I'm asking to see how it still applies to Snow Leopard users.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/131094/2007/12/screensharepower.html
One item that doesn't seem to work is Bonjour Browser window.  Launching screen share doesn't automatically launch Bonjour Browser.  This is a small incovenience but it means I launch BB manually then cut and paste a device address from BB to SS.
The second item is the terminal command to add additional items to the basic SS toolbar such as the button to capture the remote screen to a local file.  I've tried it but the additional buttons don't appear.  Are their other commans I could use to locally capture a screenshot from the remote machine to my computer?
Are either of these features compatible in Snow Leopard?  If yes, how could I trouble shoot my setup to find out why an item isn't functining as described.
    Thanks!

What did you do to make it work?
In my setup, I am facing pretty much all the issues I saw on the forum around screen sharing. So from a Snow Leopard iMAC:
    1. I can't even get the black remote screen when trying to get access to another iMAC 10.6.1 system. In most of the case the connecting window stays on for about 1 min and than closes; the screen sharing application shows nothing connected. Once or twice I got a black remote screen and once I think it did work well. Tens of times it just did not connect. Console messages show errors with NetAuthAgent (even that file sharing and screen sharing are enabled on the remote Snow Leopard system and the file sharing was fine but connection is slower than with leopard).
2. I can connect to a Leopard system but takes almost a minute to connect. I can access Leopard regardless of the screen sharing options and I never get a black remote screen.
All systems are in a LAN. Before Snow Leopard upgrade the screen sharing connection was instant on all systems.

  • Screen sharing - resizing the window?

Okay, I'm having a "special child" moment.
I'm using screen sharing not with iChat but to work on files and user groups on an XServe running Leopard Server. The problem: The window for Screen Sharing is too small. I'd like to resize it by dragging the lower right-hand corner. However, whenever I go to do so, I can't actually grab the corner because my mouse goes into the shared screen where the corner does not exist to drag. If I move my cursor farther out, I just end up clicking past the window and landing on my desktop or an underlying application.
    Am I missing something here?

    Hi,
You are using the Finder's go Menu > Go to Server with a VNC:// type connection that invokes the Screen Sharing App ?
    Go to the View Menu
    Turning Off Scaling may help.
    Also Showing Toolbar may help.
I found best results in grabbing the bottom right corner with Scaling Off.
I also Looked at the Preferences and there is an option for Viewing Screen that are larger than yours.

  • Screen sharing and multiple users

I have an iMac at home that is used by multiple family members. I have multiple logins enable so it is common to have 2-3 accounts logged in at once. I would like to use screen sharing to connect to my account even when one of the kids is logged into their account.
I started by looking at the vnc processes. There is one process that run as root:
    root 21792 0.0 0.0 2437128 1736 ?? Ss 12:25PM 0:00.02 /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/AppleVNCServer.bundle/Contents/Su pport/RFBRegisterMDNS
Then there is another process for each person logged in:
    username 22006 0.0 0.3 2734876 13964 ?? S 12:33PM 0:00.29 /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/AppleVNCServer.bundle/Contents/Ma cOS/AppleVNCServer
So I have two questions. One is how can there be three processes running that listen on the same 5900 port at the same time and how does it decide which one to connect a vnc client to? My second question is how can I prevent the AppleVNCServer process from starting for each user. I've tried killing those processes but they respawn immediately.

    Hi
Thank you for your answer. Sorry to have been unclear - I'll give it another go :o)
Here is what I am trying to do:
I have 2 users (Plex and Ursus) that I want to have logged on at the same time. Plex will be "in the front" i.e. that is the screen that is seen if you are at the mini. Ursus is a user that is logged on but you cannot currently see (i.e. in the back as it where). I would like to work using the user Ursus (to, for example, rip a movie from a DVD (that I own of course :o).
Using file sharing would mean that I have 2 machines running and that I need to copy all the files from the one machine to the other, not exactly what I want but manageable.
I have managed to get this "partly" working - I am using Vine Server for Mac (http://www.testplant.com/products/vineserver/OSX) which allows me to start a VNC server on e.g. port 5901 and then screen share to that session. If I setup the second user (Ursus in this case) to use this server then I can connect to the "back" user. The only problem being that Vine Server seems to crash with Plex - as soon as I start it Plex just hangs and randomly crashes!
    Was that clearer?
    Thanks again
    Ursus

  • Airport Extreme is allowing access to screen sharing, file sharing from external IP addresses (some from China, Canada etc)

How to get control over the ports/port forwarding etc in Airport Extreme?
How to make AE drop packets to certain ports from external ports.  Or create whitelist/blacklists?
I figured out where the MAC filtering is!  (It is inside the Timed Access Control).  I wish it had a list of connected device and allowed me to select, name and add them.
I am getting requests from Chinese IP to the screen sharing ports forwarded to my iMac.  Had requests to other ports as well.  There was one IP address from CANADA too.
I want to open file sharing for local use only.

Why is Airport Extreme forwarding requests for screen sharing from external ip addresses to my imac?  I don't have a public address, nor use dynamic dns service, and I have removed the server app (at least I think I have, but Apple Store doesn't think so).

  • Can I display EyeTV's live TV over HDMI-out and be able to see my desktop using screen-sharing on a headless mac-mini used as a media-box?

    Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a new mac-mini to replace my current one which acts as an iTunes server and records TV programs using eyeTV. I connect using screen-sharing/VNC to be able to do stuff on it (like handbrake etc.)
I have eyeTV with a satelite receiver and I want to change the setup so that:
    - the new mac-mini continues to work as an iTunes server (and handbrake workhorse)
    - I can use the HDMI output (inc. audio) to show eyeTV's live TV full-screen app
    - I can connect using screen-sharing/VNC to the mac-mini and see my normal desktop to be able to maintain it etc. but this is a headless display (no screen is connected to the display-port).
    - recorded media I'd play through the appleTV2 still + rentals etc. unless anyone knows if eyeTV software can offer up iTunes content? I don't like the eyeTV recordings in general as it seems very slow to me for access when there are lots of recordings and wouldn't be available in other apleTVs in the house AFAIK.
The main benefit that this gives me is that I'd no longer need a seperate satelite box to watch live TV and can add more eyeTV hardware to get additional TV channels all through the same HUD on the TV for ease of access.
Does this seem possible in theory & practice (ie are there any gotcha's to consider?)
    - can I force the HDMI output resolution to 1080i as I go via an amp to the TV and the appleTV2 drops to low-res in this configuration so I have had to find a workaround for that.
    - does the mac-mini have IR input that can be programmed?
    - Does eyeTV software remain stable for long periods?
    - Does the HDMI out have any handshake issues that would need a reset of the display (somehow)?
thanks in advance for any thoughts/contributions
    Lee

I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems.

  • Screen-Sharing and Internet-Sharing via same network connection

    Hello out there,
I'm using a TiBook (G4 867MHz) and a MacBook Pro 17". They are connected via a WLAN-router. Additionally the MBP is connected to the internet via an UMTS-connection established with a Merlin 870XU type PC-card.
