10.5.7 breaks sparsebundles with large bands

If you increased the band size of your Time Machine disk image or another sparsebundle, 10.5.7 won't mount it.
I had set the band size of my Time Machine image to 512MB bytes using hdiutil so I could back up a multi-terabyte drive without crashing the NAS from having too many band files. 10.5.7 thinks it's corrupted - "CBundleBackingStore::processBundle: invalid _bytesPerBand 536870912".

Thanks for the workaround. Here's what I did to revert DiskImages.framework from Leopard DVD:
# Backup 10.5.7 DiskImages.framework
cd /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
sudo mv DiskImages.framework/ DiskImages.framework-10.5.7
# Revert Leopard DVD DiskImages.framework
cd /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
sudo rsync -av DiskImages.framework /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/
# Convert Time Machine sparsebundle from 1GB bands to 128MB bands
mv MacBook\ Pro_macaddress.sparsebundle MacBook\ Pro_10.5.6.sparsebundle
hdiutil convert MacBook\ Pro_10.5.6.sparsebundle -format UDSB -tgtimagekey sparse-band-size=262144 -o MacBook\ Pro_macaddress.sparsebundle

  • Working with large Artboards/Files in Illustrator

    Hello all!
    I'm currently designing a full size film poster for a client. The dimensions of the poster are 27" x 40" (industry standard film poster).
    I am a little uncertain in working with large files in Illustrator, so I have several problems that have come up in several design projects using similar large formats.
    The file size is MASSIVE. This poster uses several large, high-res images that I've embedded. I didn't want them to pixelate, so I made sure they were high quality. After embedding all these images, along with the vector graphics, the entire .ai file is 500MB. How can I reduce this file size? Can I do something with the images to make the .ai file smaller?
    I made my artboard 27" x 40" - the final size of the poster. Is this standard practice? Or when designing for a large print format, are you supposed to make a smaller, more manageable artboard size, and then scale up after to avoid these massive file sizes?
    I need to upload my support files for the project, including .ai and .eps - so it won't work if they're 500MB. This would be good info to understand for all projects I think.
    Any help with this would be appreciated. I can't seem to find any coherent information pertaining to this problem that seems to address my particular issues. Thank you very much!
    Asher

    Hi Asher,
    It's probably those high-res images you've embedded. Firstly, be sure your images are only as large as you need them Secondly, a solution would be to use linked images while you're working instead of embedding them into the file.
    Here is a link to a forum with a lot of great discussion about this issue, to get you started: http://www.cartotalk.com/lofiversion/index.php?t126.html
    And another: http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-1907.html
    Here is a great list of tips that someone in the above forum gave:
    -Properly scale files.  Do not take a 6x6' file then use the scaling tool to make it a 2x2'  Instead scale it in photoshop to 2x2 and reimport it.  Make a rule like over 20%, bring it back in to photoshop for rescaling.
    -Check resolutions. 600dpi is not going to be necessary for such and such printer.
    -Delete unused art.  Sloppy artists may leave old unused images under another image.  The old one is not being used but it still takes up space, therefore unecessarily inflating your file.
    -Choose to link instead of embedd.  This is your choice.  Either way you still have to send a large file but many times linking is less total MB then embedding.  Also embedding works well with duplicated images. That way multiple uses link to one original, whereas embedding would make copies.
    -When you are done, using compression software like ZIP or SIT (stuffit)
    http://www.maczipit.com/
    Compression can reduce file sizes alot, depending on the files.
    This business deals with alot of large files.  Generally people use FTP's to send large files, or plain old CD.  Another option is using segmented compression.  Something like winRAR/macRAR or dropsegment (peice of stuffit deluxe) compresses files, then breaks it up into smaller manageble pieces.   This way you can break up a 50mb file into say 10x 5mb pieces and send them 5mb at a time.
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
    *make sure your client knows how to uncompress those files.  You may want to link them to the site to download the software."
    Good luck!

  • Unstable with large cp files

    I'm evaluating Captivate, using version 1.0.1188.1188. I'm
    creating a fairly long, full-screen (1280X1024) training course
    using Demonstration mode with over 300 slides. The CP file is about
    100MB in size. I have noticed that Captivate often saves corrupt
    files that are much smaller than normal: one had no audio;
    Captivate failed to read another back into memory. Once Captivate
    failed to display any menus; another time, when selecting File /
    Save As and entering the new file name, Captivate didn't save the
    file, but didn't report any error. I have 1GB RAM and 3GHz CPU and
    30GB hard disk space. The Windows Task Manager shows around 400MB
    free RAM.
    I wonder if Captivate doesn't behave well with large files,
    although I did not think that my training session I'm creating is
    very long or complex. It is the first I've ever attempted to do, so
    I'm inexperienced in this.
    Do others have similar problems? Should I break my project
    into several smaller ones?
    Tony

    Steve,
    I am unfamiliar with the 'end of movie" preference you
    mentioned. I am having problems with the "consistent" playback of
    nested swf files in my application. There's only about 25 slides
    but two of the 3 flash animations are consistently inconsistent -
    that is, sometimes they load, sometimes they don't. I was pretty
    sure I isolated the problem to Internet Explorer 6 (since it worked
    fine in other browsers and the Flash player). If this "end of
    movie" preferences option allows me to cut this cp file in half, it
    could be helpful in isolating my problem.

  • Lag with large brushes and files

    I typically work with large files around 10000 pixels, 300 dpi.  But I'm getting a lot of lag when I use brushes larger than 1000 px as well as a long wait to open and save the files.
    Is this a RAM issue?
    Here are my specs:

    And two GPUs: NIVIDIA Geforce GTX 460m
    I'm upgrading my RAM and GPU soon anyway but wanted to check and make sure it wasnt some other underlying problem?

    I'm having some trouble deciphering what is going on here. I'm useing Paul Tuersley's response as a starting point. Here is my modification not that it matters since it isn't working at the moment. I don't actually know what some of the script is doing. Right now "theFiles" is returning all of the files that are not real files, folders and .DS_Store when I want it to be an array of all of the files in the folder.
    Could you help me break it down?
    // Log the selected footage
    var selectedFiles = app.project.selection;
    // Choose the folder to scan
    var theFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Please select folder.");
    if(theFolder != null){
        var resultArray = new Array();

  • How can I get TV shows viewed through Hulu Plus on the Apple TV 3 to show as widescreen with black bands above and below the screen shot instead of chopping off the sides on my non-widescreen TV?

    I just bought a new Apple TV 3 today so I can watch shows from Hulu Plus without having to physically plug in separate audio and video cables from my Macbook Air to the TV every time. I have a non-widescreen TV and when I normally watch Hulu Plus on the TV (though Safari on my plugged in Macbook Air as mentioned above), the entire wide screen shot is shown with black bands above and below the sceen shot since I am watching a widescreen program on a non-widescreen TV.
    However, I noticed that when I watch the same show through Hulu Plus on my new Apple TV 3, the left and right edges of the shot are chopped off to make the program fill my non-widescreen TV. This bothers me because I would like to see the full shot and not just the chopped off middle portion. This is a real bummber because watching Hulu Plus without having to plug in my laptop is the only reason I bought the Apple TV. Is there anything I can do about this?
    Thanks!
    (FYI: I have the very first Macbook Air that is not capable of mirroring)

    How are you actually connected to the TV?  Does it have HDMI?  Most non-widescreen TVs would not.
    I would suspect a converter is either not outputting properly, your TV not interpreting the signal properly or you have some form of Zoom setting enabled on the TV.
    How does your TV handle widescreen from say cable or terrestrial TV sources ?
    Unfortunately AppleTV is not designed to be used with non-widescreen TVs so there's no setting on AppleTV to tweak.

    I agree.
    It was very useful to reduce everything to small and quickly scan down looking for missing artwork.
    Particularly useful when I only connect to the machine with iTunes via screen sharing, so everything can be a bit slower to scroll through at times.
    In fact, itunes 11 when used purely as a server for Apple TV etc is a downgrade in usability IMO, as they've got rid of some of the useful views that helped me manage my library remotely.

  • HP Photosmart 5510 will not print Black Ink!! - Time to "break-up" with HP

    I came upon this forum by doing a google search for the issue I'm having which is my HP Photosmart 5510 will not print black ink. The printer is a year and a half old and is used only for home office use (not a heck of a lot of printing being done)
    It started right after I installed new ink cartridges (all four of them) I want to mention hear that I ONLY buy genuine HP ink cartridges from Staples and when I replace my cartriges I replace all four at the same time even if one ink level is not considered "replaceably" low. When the issue started I thought I must have gotten a bad black cartridge so I went out and bought another one but was still having the issue. So that's when I did my google search.
    I tried all the suggestions (several times) on this post (which did not reslove the problem) : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Issues-Troubleshooting/HP-Photosmart-5510-will-not-print/m-p/1...
    and I tried a "Hard Reset" as suggested here (again did not resolve the problem) :  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Ink-Toner-Cartridge-Printhead-Issues/Photosmart-5510-Will-not-print-in-...
    After trying all of these my color ink is less than half full....remember....I started with 4 brand new ink cartridges...so now, I'm out roughly $85 in ink just trying to resolve a problem that should not have happened in the first place!! Shame on HP for makeing such poor quality products. I gave up on HP computers years ago and now I'm giving up on their printers!! This HP Photosmart 5510 All In One printer replaced an HP Color Laserjet CM1312nfi printer (which cost approximately $400) that only lasted about 3 years. Sorry HP but that's it....I'm moving on! Consider this our "break-up" letter.

    Hi TisKate, sorry to hear that you are having printing issues when it comes to printing in Black. I am also sorry to hear that you are breaking up with HP. I would like to offer a couple more troubleshooting steps before we say our fond farewells. Now this might sound silly but really it isn't. If you have the power cable connected to a Power bar/strip, please remove it and connect the power cable directly to a wall outlet. HP printers already have a built in surge protector and if you have it in a strip/bar, the printer will not get all the power needed to function properly. This can cause printing issues or false error messages on the printer display screen. Here is a document that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
    The other step I would like to take is on the printers display touch screen. Please use the right arrow key and go to the Wrench icon. Press the wrench and go to the Tools menu. Once in the Tools menu, please select Clean Printhead. Use the cleaning utility 2-3 times or until you see a change in the print status reports. It might take a few cycles but I am confident that it will make a difference.
    I hope you and HP can still be friends( friendly humor).
    Thanks for your time.

  • Business Partner records with large numbers of addresses -- Move-in issue

    Friends,
    Our recent CCS implementation (ECC6.0ehp3 & CRM2007) included the creation of some Business Partner records with large numbers of addresses.  Most of these are associated with housing authorities, large developers and large apartment complex owners.  Some of the Business Partners have over 1000 address records and one particular BP has over 6000 addresses that were migrated from our Legacy System.  We are experiencing very long run times to try to execute move in's and move out's due to the system reading the volume of addresses attached to the Business Partner.  In many cases, the system simply times out before it can execute the transaction.  SAP's suggestion is that we run a BAPI to cleanse the addresses and also to implement a BADI to prevent the creation of excess addresses.
    Two questions surrounding the implementation of this code.  Will the BAPI to cleanse the addresses, wipe out all address records except for the standard address?  That presents an issue to ensure that the standard address on the BP record is the correct address that we will have identified as the proper mailing address.  Second question is around the BADI to prevent the creation of excess addresses.  It looks like this BADI is going to prevent the move in address from updating the standard address on the BP record which in the vast majority of cases is exactly what we would want.
    Does anyone have any experience with this situation of excess BP addresses and how did you handle the manipulation and cleansing of the data and how do you maintain it going forward?
    Our solution is ECC6.0Ehp3 with CRM2007...latest patch level
    Specifically, SAP suggested we apply/review these notes:
    Note 1249787 - Performance problem during move-in with huge addresses
    **applied this ....did not help
    Note 861528 - Performance in move-in for partner w/ large no of addresses
    **older ISU4.7 note
    Directly from our SAP message:
    use the function module
    BAPI_BUPA_ADDRESS_REMOVE or run BAPI_ISUPARTNER_CHANGE to delete
    unnecessary business partner addresses.
    Use BAdI ISU_MOVEIN_CUSTOMIZE to avoid the creation of unnecessary
    business partner addresses (cf. note 706686) in the future for that
    business partner.
    Note 706686 - Move-in: Avoid unnecessary business partner addresses
    Does anyone have any suggestions and have you used above notes/FMs to resolve something like this?
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Nick:
    One thing to understand is that the badi and bapi are just the tools or mechanisms that will enable you to fix this situation.  You or your development team will need to define the rules under which these tools are used.  Lets take them one at a time.
    BAPI - the bapi for business partner address maintenance.  It would seem that you need to create a program which first read the partners and the addresses assigned to them and then compares these addresses to each other to find duplicate addresses.  These duplicates then can be removed provided they are not used elsewhere in the system (i.e. contract account).
    BADI - the badi for business partner address maintenance.  Here you would need to identify the particular scenarios where addresses should not be copied.  I would expect that most move-ins would meet the criteria of adding the address and changing the standard address.  But for some, i.e. landlords or housing complexes, you might not add an address because it already exists for the business partner, and you might not change the standard address because those accounts do not fall under that scenario.  This will take some thinking and design to ensure that the address add/change functions are executed under the right circumstances.
    regards,
    bill.

  • Out.println() problems with large amount of data in jsp page

    I have this kind of code in my jsp page:
    out.clearBuffer();
    out.println(myText); // size of myText is about 300 kbThe problem is that I manage to print the whole text only sometimes. Very often happens such that the receiving page gets only the first 40 kb and then the printing stops.
    I have made such tests that I split the myText to smaller parts and out.print() them one by one:
    Vector texts = splitTextToSmallerParts(myText);
    for(int i = 0; i < texts.size(); i++) {
      out.print(text.get(i));
      out.flush();
    }This produces the same kind of result. Sometimes all parts are printed but mostly only the first parts.
    I have tried to increase the buffer size but neither that makes the printing reliable. Also I have tried with autoFlush="false" so that I flush before the buffer size gets overflowed; again same result, sometimes works sometimes don't.
    Originally I use such a system where Visual Basic in Excel calls a jsp page. However, I don't think that this matters since the same problems occur if I use a browser.
    If anyone knows something about problems with large jsp pages, I would appreciate that.

    Well, there are many ways you could do this, but it depends on what you are looking for.
    For instance, generating an Excel Spreadsheet could be quite easy:
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class TableTest extends HttpServlet{
         public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException, ServletException {
              response.setContentType("application/xls");
              PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(response.getOutputStream());
                    out.println("Col1\tCol2\tCol3\tCol4");
                    out.println("1\t2\t3\t4");
                    out.println("3\t1\t5\t7");
                    out.println("2\t9\t3\t3");
              out.flush();
              out.close();
    }Just try this simple code, it works just fine... I used the same approach to generate a report of 30000 rows and 40 cols (more or less 5MB), so it should do the job for you.

    What you need to do is boot into Safe Mode. Then delete the VGA Drivers.
    After that boot normally and install the latest nVidia ForceWare Drivers

  • How do you apply 2 different types of page (first with large logo and 2nd/follow with small) in the same document?

    i´m using pages 5.1 and i need 2 different types of page in 1 document: first page with large logo and second with a small one. in pages 09 was a option for different first page ...

    that's not my problem, and I am unfortunately not a professional. Sorry.
    In Pages09 there was an option "Different First Page" (like MS Word). I could create different pages (first and second) with two different logos and text boxes. If the document was opened, there was only one side with the large logo. during writing the small logo and the other text boxes appeared on the second page (and subsequent pages).
    Unfortunately I miss this function. I mean the inclusion of items on a second page. However, this must not necessarily be active.

  • How do I pause an iCloud restore for app with large amounts of data?

    I am using an iPhone app which is holding 10 Gb of data (media files) .
    Unfortunately, although all data was backed up, my iPhone 4 was faulty and needed to be replaced with a new handset. On restore, the 10Gb of data takes a very long time to restore over wi-fi. If interrupted (I reached the halfway point during the night) to go to work or take the dog for a walk, I end up of course on 3G for a short period of time.
    Next time I am in a wi-fi zone the app is restoring again right from the beginning
    How does anyone restore an app with large amounts of data or pause a restore?

    You can use classifications but there is no auto feature to archive like that on web apps.

  • Two work-arounds for Siena when working with large files

    MonaTech pointed out that Project Siena will crash when switching to the desktop or another app.  I've also noticed this happening even when the monitor goes to sleep with inactivity.  To be clear, this is *developing* in Siena, not after the app
    you're working on has been compiled and installed.
    The 'non-technical' work-around that has been successful for me is to split the screen before I switch to another app.  It's not perfect but at least I can switch to another app (browser, desktop app, etc.) without losing where I'm at.
    A more technical work-around is proposed in this thread:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c768be8f-3c85-444e-bb44-6f29abdecee7/project-siena-app-memory-issues-with-large-project-?forum=projectsiena
    If you have a version of Visual Studio (that's not Express) it may do the trick for you.
