10.5.8 Client suddenly stops authenticating network accounts

Hello,
We have an Xserve running OS X Server 10.6.8, and connected to it via OD are a mix of 10.5 (PPC) and 10.6 (Intel) clients. Everything was working fine until one day the network accounts on one of the 10.5 clients stopped authenticating (anyone trying to login to their accounts on that computer got the shaking login box). On further testing, it was revealed that you could still log in, but with outdated passwords, leading me to believe that there was some communication error between the server and the client about updating Manged Client preferences, or about updating passwords if they had been changed elsewhere.
Attached are console logs linked to any attempt to login with a network account and the current password associated with it (HAIL is the name of the computer):

Steps I have taken to rectify this that have failed:
- Unbinding and rebinding the client to the server.
- A forced Managed Client preferences refresh.
- Resetting all computer preferences in Workgroup Manager to default for this computer.
- Using disk utility to check and fix permissions on the local drive.
None of it has worked, and any help would be appreciated.

Something that I've been looking at along with this problem is that my master directory no longer has a DNS name when looking at it's configuration in Server Admin.
I can see the server, people can also log in up to 10.5.2, and I can see it with an nslookup, but I'm not sure why I cannot see a DNS name in the admin.
Quick information about our setup: We have an OD Master and two OD Replicas. The master is where our faculty and students logs in to and faculty stores their data, the replicas are where the students store their data.
One of our techs here is trying to remember how to do it, but apparently our old apple tech had set up one of the replica servers to act as a DNS server which would then give the master server it's DNS name...I guess the DNS server had one entry which was the master, and then the master pointed itself to that DNS server to get it's information.
Does anyone have any information on this or how I can get it to work?

LDAP Authentication "Network Accounts Unavailable" on 10.8

Hello,
We've been successfully authenticating against our LDAP servers on our 10.6.8 machines without any problems. I've setup a test machine running 10.8 to see if we will have any issues when it comes time to upgrade our lab OSs. I setup our LDAP authentication on the machine as per our usual methods. I get the "Green Light" in the Users/Groups preferences pane that our LDAP server is found. I can search through our LDAP users in the Directory Editor and I can access LDAP user accounts through terminal.
My problem is at the login screen it tells me "Network Accounts Unavailable". This seems contradictory as when I'm logged into a local account, I can access our LDAP server. It seems to work everywhere except at the login screen.

No luck.
Any ideas?

I see the same problem as a result of having the same UID number for both my local account and my LDAP account although the account names are different. It appears that upon providing the correct login/password to the LDAP server, 10.8 looks at the returned UID , identifies it as the same as a local UID and then rejects the login.
A security measure I want to work around but perhaps there is a better way of accessing both my local and LDAP accounts but keeping it as easy as it would be if both accounts had the same UID.

TS3276 Problems with Mail - suddenly stopped on one account

I am on a iMac using OSx 10.8.4 running Mail 6.5. One of my mail accounts running off an MS Exchange sudden stopped sending and receiving mail. Meanwhile my old MacBook Pro running a much earlier version of OSX and a similarly older version of Mail has no problem.
The Connection Doctor says that the connection to the server is good, so I'm baffled.

Ical server/client suddenly stopped working together

I have 10.6.1 server with a group calendar served on a wiki. There are multiple users using 10.6.1 macbook, using ical to display/edit the group calendar. Server has a correctly configured FQDN. Apart from some niggles (will come to later), all has been fine for the last 2 weeks - all 10.6 clients have been able to connect without problems (to FQDN:8008/principals/wikis/groupadministration ). I do not have SSL. Today, one of the clients could no longer update the group calendar or refresh it (for changes from other people).
The following is in the client system log:
iCal[278] Exception in -[CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation refreshWithExceptionHandling] :: * -[NSCFString rawInterval]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x165437f0
In the server caldavd error log:
[caldav-8009] [-] [twistedcaldav.method.propfind#error] Error reading property ('DAV:', 'current-user-privilege-set') for resource /calendars/_uids_/wiki-groupadministration/inbox/: <StatusResponse 401 Access denied while reading property {DAV:}current-user-privilege-set.>
Web access still works for this user.
There have been no changes to any set up and the user in question had no problems in the last 2 weeks, until today. I understand it just "stopped working" this morning - user can offer no further help.
In other niggles (possibly unrelated but if anyone can help):
* I have an older client, running 10.5.8 with no wish to upgrade to 10.6, as there are some software compatibility issues (Adobe CS2, Parallels 3) and no budge to update software. ical has never been able to connect to the ical server reliably - after the first update/sync, no further updates are possible.
* It is not possible to disable alarms to the group calendar in ical. Option-i, uncheck the box, and 30 seconds later the box is checked again. Each user has their own "personal" calendar in the group calendar, and some users like to have alarms. It is not possible to disable those alarms for other users.
Hope someone can help. All in all, I am not particularly impressed with SL server.

Express suddenly stopped extending network?

My Airport Express was extending my network to the basement (and using airplay to a stereo) from my Airport Extreme network. Lately it stopped working. Although the AP utility says it was connected and had excellent signal, the "info" button said it was unable to extend the network check all the settings blah blah.I did of course however no settings actually changed. I did a reset, moved into the same room as the main airport and it will see the express, collect information, and try to join then says an error occurred please try again? Any advice is most appreciated.

Mail stopped authenticating with Exchange account

Strange problem here. About a month ago, Mail suddenly stopped authenticating with my Exchange account which is hosted by Fasthosts, citing the error 'The exchange server exchange.livemail.co.uk rejected the password for user...'.
No settings had been changed, my web hosts swear blind they've not changed the way Exchange email is authenticated or updated their installation, or done anything that might cause this problem. My password is definitely correct as I use it for both Entourage and for Outlook Web Access.
If I alter the exchange server details, I get a different error message (sever not found)... so I'm fairly sure Mail is getting through to the server, but is experiencing some sort of authentication problem that it previously wasn't.
Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this to happen? I've tried all authentication protocols allowed in Mail and none of them work. I've also attempted re-establishing the account in Mail both by deleting it and starting again, and by trying it as a different user, and no go: it used to work great, now it doesn't. Entourage works fine.
I'm completely at a loss here - any suggestions would be gratefully received.

DHCP service suddenly stopped.

Title is the main concern. We have 700 windows machines and windows 2008 DHCP server. All 700 windows machines are in domain. we have also configured SCCM.
from 17th Mar 2015 DHCP client suddenly stopped onto client machine and whenever we wanted to start Access is denied message is appearing.
Till we are not getting the root cause of above scenario. Please help and provide solution.
We checked all permission from registry editor.

1. Run services.msc as admin and try to start it.
2. check the password changes for the service account the dhcp client is using.

Thank you for your response.
My sample is whenever an entry is raised to be posted to a balance sheet account such account should not allow user to post but only in revenue and expense account. E.g. A Stock account should not allow project assignment but a cost of sales, expenses or sales revenue accounts should only accept project assignment.
Only P&L items should allow project assignments.
I hope this is clear is enough.

Parental control & network accounts

Is there any way to set up parental control for network accounts?
All my family member's accounts are of the network type, including the kids'. However, it appears only managed users can have parental controls turned on.

I wondered if you had found a way to access the various logs available on Leopard client but when using network accounts. I'm proposing using it in a school but without the logging facility it won't be feasible.

My iPad suddenly stopped connecting to my home network. It shows the network to. Choose from but there is no IP address or other information on the network page. It is set on DHCP and proxy is set at auto. Do I have another setting wrong?

My iPad suddenly stopped working with my home network. It shows the network to choose from but will not connect. When I look at details in that network it does not show IP address or any other info for the network. Setting is on DHCP and http proxy is set on auto. Network is active and can connect on wife's iPad and other home computers. Do I have another setting wrong?

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Apple TV connectivity with network suddenly stopped; reset twice; laptop and desktop access internet fine; Apple TV box bad?

Our Apple TV has worked fine with our Wi-Fi network for about a year. Connectivity suddenly stopped. I have reset it twice but it is still unable to connect to the internet using my Wi-Fi name and password. Both our iMac and Macbook are accessing the network without issues. Is our Apple TV box bad?

Imac suddenly stopped connecting to network

sorry if this topic already exists somewhere. i've been searching these forums for an hour and can't find any useful help on the subject.
we bought our first mac almost 1.5 yrs ago. this beautiful 27" imac worked fine for 1 year and then suddenly stopped connecting to our wireless network. distance to the wireless router isn't an issue. doesn't matter where i move it to in the house, it sees the network, but won't connect anymore. 6 other laptops/video game consoles/pc's all continue to connect w/o a problem. this happened once approx 3 months ago and i figured our old router had kicked the bucket, so i bought a new router and it worked fine for several months and now it's happening again.
i've gone thru all the preliminary steps of unplugging the modem, the router, the imac, and renewing the dhcp but nothing helps. it will work fine if i wire it directly to the router, but i don't want to run a 75ft ethernet cable thru the house.
i'm so frustrated with this supposedly wonderful imac! can anyone help me?

Here's something to think about... I know my AT&T DSL Cable Modem will only allow a certain number of connections. A few years ago that might not have been an issue, but now with wi-fi cells, gaming systems with netflix, other laptops/ipads, you might be exceeding that limit. It could be they are all connected and you don't have a spot on the router.
This might be elementary, but thought I'd throw that out there.

Iphone 4s wifi suddenly stopped connecting to home network

My iphone 4s suddenly stopped connecting to my home wifi 2 weeks ago, now it won't even bring it up on the list of available networks. I have tried resetting network settings, have tried manually connecting but it says "unable to locate network". Why would this all of a sudden start doing this when I have had this phone for over a year. My husbands iphone 4 has no problems whatsoever and connects to our home network just fine so I know it is not the router. This is so frustrating

I'm currently suffering from this problem as well. If you or your husband can get your iPhone open, there may be a screw in the upper antenna area of the iPhone that is loose (this screw grounds the antenna to the chip/mainboard).

It's pointed out in the image above. Many have tightened the screw and said their Wi-Fi optimally again. Having a phone for a year does mean a lot of wear-and-tear: dropping, vibration, heat, all accumulate so that the delicate components inside get knocked around and, in this case, loose. Try this method! (If you can, of course.)

My iPad was working fine with the wifi at my house but suddenly stopped working today. My laptop still connects just fine but I can no longer get my iPad to connect. Any suggestions?

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

This page asks me for my username and password for the wifi, which I don't have. It is different from the WEP key and modem name, which I originally used to set up my connection. I have not experienced any problems on all my other wifi-enabled devices. Ipod touch, iPad, MacBook all work fine. What should I do?

The name is the name of the network you created on the router. The password is the WEP password. You shouldn't be using WEP at all, as it's insecure and also seems to cause connection failures. Use WPA 2 Personal. If your router doesn't support it, get a new one.
