10.5.8 to 10.7 upgrade considerations?

As background, I own an iMac that was purchased April 2007. When 10.6 released I purchased the disk for the OS upgraded, called Apple to inquire about the upgrade and first level support basic response was "we all need to backup our data". I waited for information regarding the 10.6 upgrade to begin posting regarding incompatibility. At such time, I realized my PDA with software being used for my business would be deactivated in the upgrade to 10.6.  along with a couple of cross over games would also be lost. So despite having an upgrade disk to 10.6 I did not install it. (Had I simply rushed into installing 10.6, I would have lost the pda which would have really been a major unwanted surprise.)
Now with Lion becoming available next month, I am considering upgrading (the iMac) to 10.6 and than securing 10.7. However while I am aware of the loss of a couple of games and my ability to sync my PDA, I am also concerned regarding other items; drivers for my Canon Pro 9000 printer, my Brothers laser printer, and my Canon flat bed scanner.  My drivers for these peripherals all work in 10.5.8.  My first question with these drivers working in 10.5.8 continue to work in 10.6? I also have installed Photoshop CS3 and CS4.
My next question is I use Aperture 2.1, will it remain available since having been upgraded to 3.0, not only in 10.6 but also in 10.7? Also 10k plus photographs that are copied to a 2nd external drive.
I also own an iPod Touch 2nd generation, all my music is on the iMac and iTunes has not been upgraded to v. 10 because I simply didn't like the social concept of Ping. Are there any considerations here beyond upgrading to iTunes 10 which I am reasonably confidant would be a necessity if upgrading to 10.7
Being proactive, if I am to install 10.7 I would like to know what else I might consider and also any further impacts to drivers, apps I might consider. Input and suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Jeff,
Thanks for sharing you were/are concerned as well.
I can certainly appreciate what your saying within the scope of the investment 1 1/2 years ago. More than likely Adobe will be happy to pump out another Creative Suites at 64 bits once Lion is out and about.
I spent a great deal of my evening going through my list of applications and hardware and when I checked out Aperture's Community (2.1.4) my hesitance renewed itself with additional vigor. I was feeling hopeful after establishing a couple of drivers would run and couple of others would need to be installed. Also got a chuckle at the website for the laser printer when realizing their step by step process regarding updating using a USB connection. The unplug series (power, usb) and than replugging process. One critical step was forgotten, the step that said "install the pckg"
Anyway, reading issues people have had with 10.6 upgrade in relationship to Apple's Aperture raised my level of concern while I do restoration work and some minor tweaks with photographs via Photoshop, Aperture is my primary app for my photography.
I'm continue to mull and will continue research through my other apps, perhaps I will come to a decision. My external drives (2) are pretty much occupied with TM on one and my photography and business on the other. So while running 10.6 from an external drive is a possibility, repartitioning either of my drives is an option I will pass on while buying another external drive is out of the question.
Best of luck with the exploration of 10.7!

  • Call Manager upgrade considerations

    Hey,
have a pub and a sub ccm running 4.0. customer requires upgrade to 4.2. we also need to change the dial-plan from 4 digit to five.
another engineer has recommended blowing away the entire ccm and installing with 4.2 because upgrades always have some type of issue. I have never upgraded before so i just wanted to get some opinions. which is the safer, realistic feasible route. is the upgrade to 4.2 that unstable that i have to redo everything?.

I really don't think that blowing away the entire ccm is the way to go, normally the upgrades are transparent, just follow the procedure in the installation guide and you should be fine. Always remember to have a backup of your system just in case.

  • Success  Upgrade Considerations

What do I have to consider when preparing an upgrade project?
Before deciding for an SAP upgrade project, there are strategic, business-driven, technology and project-related aspects to be considered. As part of your company-specific IT strategy, you need to determine the best timing for the transition of your existing SAP solution to the next SAP software generation, e.g. as an SAP R/3 customer to mySAP ERP or the ESA based architecture of future mySAP solutions. Beside those strategic aspects, business drivers that are enabled by latest SAP solutions, such as mySAP ERP may determine the best timing and the right target release for the upgrade of your existing SAP solution. Therefore, an upgrade decision highly depend on overall IT strategy and the business needs to be an early adopter of ESA or mySAP ERP. Find essential information that help to get a company-specific answer to those questions at the SAP Upgrade Info Center or mySAP ERP upgrade pages. Furthermore, technical prerequisites (see question above) need to be verified in order to determine the technical feasibility of an upgrade to a specific target release, e.g. ECC 5.0 as part of mySAP ERP. In preparation of an upgrade project, you may also want to estimate the costs and to ensure that your upgrade project team is staffed appropriately. SAP upgrade offerings such as the SAP Upgrade Roadmap or SAP upgrade services may help in this matter. For SAP R/3 Enterprise (also shortly available for mySAP ERP 2004), project statistics of successful completed upgrade projects can provide insight to of other customers’ upgrade experiences.

OK let's take a step back here.
First of all the upgrade to the help's source files does not affect the help output in any way untill such time as they are generated and published to the location where the current help resides. I would also strongly recommend that you have two separate publish locations (test and live). That way you can publish to your test location without affecting what your users see and use. Only when you are happy would you publish to your live location on the server.
Secondly, as far as the RoboHelp Server application is concerned there is a significant change in it's set-up and installation. Not least it now uses Tomcat open source software and the Java Runtime Environment. You can still use Windows IIS if you want. The link I posted in my previous response should cover most of the queries you have in this area.
For your final question, I'd say that if the server is down your users can't have access to the help. You may wish to employ a backup method along the lines we do here. The application attempts to access the online help located on our server. This requires an internet connection. If there is no internet connection, or the attempt to access the server times out, the application accesses the local CHM file which we also install with the application.

  • Upgrade from XI 3.0 to PI 7.1 Test plan

    Hi All,
We are in the process of upgrading our XI server from XI 3.0 to PI 7.1.  Our landscape is connection different Non-sap system(web, FTP, JDBC) and with different sap system.
we need to have concrete test plan before upgrading from XI 3.0 to PI 7.1 wherein non of our existing interfaces should not get affected.
Please provide your solution how can we have our test plan in development perspective. what are the area and functionality we need to test.
    For eg.
    1. do we need to test each and every communication channel?
    2. do we need to go each and every mapping object and check whether any custom code involved?
3 I understand from the blog that when we go for upgrade we need Java proxies need to be redeployed and custom adapter module need to be redeployed. If so do I need go one by one communication channel and check is there any customer adapter module is there or not?
Along with this let me know is there any standard test plan strategy is available.
    Thanks,

  • MS SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 upgrade

    Hi,
I need to upgrade my actual SAP DataBase SQL Server 2000 from Service Pack 2 to Service Pack 4 in order to be more secure as a MS consultant is requesting, but following the comments on the SAP note 1026116 attached file, which references this MS article:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/B/D/1BDF5B78-584E-4DE0-B36F-C44E06B0D2A3/ReadmeSql2k32sp4.htm
    Referenced Text:
"If your instance of SQL Server 2000 is being used by an application, first check with the provider of the application whether there are any SQL Server 2000 upgrade considerations specific to that application. "
So following this instructions is there any SQL Server 2000 upgrade to Service Pack 4 considerations for a SAP Database of an ERP R3 ECC 6.0.
Could anyone can help me please with this question?
    Best Regards,
    Erik Espinosa

    Hi,
Service Pack 4 is supported and recommended for SAP ERP ECC 6.0. There are currently no known issues with upgrading to this service pack. The mentioned collation change don't have to be performed as long as you are not planning to upgrade to SQL Server 2005.
    Best regards

    Memory            : 4096 MBytes
Read the document according to that prepared a document. Could you cross check the document whether i missed any thing  to consider the upgradation plan
    III. Upgrade considerations
Need to apply the refresh upgrade cop file before doing the actual upgrade for the cucm using 9.1 image.
Sequence for the refresh /upgrade should be
a-Do the refresh upgrade (install the COP file) on the publisher and on the other node( subscriber).
b-Do the upgrade (install the ISO image of the 9.1) on the publisher server then directly do the switch version (utils system switch-version) on the publisher server.
c-Once the switch version is done on the publisher successfully, do the upgrade on the subscriber server and then do a switch version on that subscriber.
    B. When we install upgrade software, there will be a temporary node outage while the Cisco Unified Communications Manager software is installed.
    C. When we upgrade a cluster we will start by upgrading the publisher node. we can begin upgrading subsequent nodes in parallel after the publisher node reaches a specified point in the upgrade. There will be a temporary node outage until all subscriber nodes get upgraded to the new software version.
    d. Disable the Cisco Extension Mobility service by navigating to Cisco Unified Serviceability > Tools > Service Activation
    III. Upgrade from CD Rom
Create an upgrade disk by burning the upgrade file that you downloaded onto a DVD as an ISO image.
    a.
Insert the new DVD into the disc   drive on the local server that is to be upgraded.
    b.
Log in to Cisco Unified Communications   Operating System Administration.
    c.
Navigate to Software Upgrades   > Install/Upgrade.
    The   Software Installation/Upgrade window displays.
From the Source list, choose DVD.
    d.
Enter a slash (/) in the   Directory field.
    e.
To use the Email Notification   feature, enter your Email Destination and SMTP Server in the fields provided.
    f.
To continue the upgrade process,   click Next.
    g.
Choose the upgrade version that   you want to install and click Next.
    h.
In the next window, monitor the   progress of the download.
    i.
If you want to run the upgraded   software at the completion of the upgrade process and automatically reboot to   the upgraded partition, choose Switch to new version after upgrade. The   system restarts and is running the upgraded software.
    j.
If you want to install the   upgrade and then manually switch to the upgraded partition at a later time,   do the following steps:
•a.          Choose Do not switch to new   version after upgrade.
    •b.          Click Next
The Upgrade Status window   displays the Upgrade log.
•c.          When the installation completes,   click Finish.

  • I-Mac Upgrading

I am an amateur photographer currently using Photoshop CS2, Lightroom beta and other photo related plugin-ins ( Noise Ninja, Mask Pro 3, etc.). My system has a NVIDIA GelForce FX 5200 graphics card. It is my understanding that an upgraded graphics card can not be installed on this MAC (this is not concidered a Power Mac system I think). I am seriously considering upgrading to the Intel-IMac (23" Display) so that I can use Aperture software in my work (since there is nothing I can do with my current MAC). While I want to do this I am very concerned with the problem of Intel-Macs not being able to utilize Photoshop CS2 (except via Rosetta) because it is not yet a Universal application. I absolutely don't want to end up degrading software performance (withe Photoshop CS2) at this time. Since everything that I currently have is working fine should I wait until next year to purchase new system, when Adobe either initiates a fix for this or CS3 becomes available along with the first full application of Adobe Lightroom ((assuming both will be a universal applications). And by the way after Aperture has worked out all of it's bugs and fixes.
I also would like to know whether I should just consider a MacPro system rather than a I-Mac at that time (because of future upgrade considerations). I don't want to go through this process every 1 1/2 yrs with Apple or Adobe, but would I be better served by maximizing my upgrade flexibility.

    Hello,
You are correct. You cannot upgrade the video card in your iMac. It is an integrated part of the main logic board.
And, if you do not want to suffer any decrease in performance with your PowerPC programs, then you should stick with what you have until a Universal version of your program is available.
As for the MacPro, that design would provide you the greatest flexibility and allow the system to grow with you. You can add / swap hard drives, video cards, CPU's, CD-ROM drives, and so on. It will enable you to adapt the machine as needed (obviously only so long as what you want is available to add-on to it). So, it would likely have a longer life-span for your described use and intentions.
If you went with a 3 GHz MacPro, you would likely see less performance loss on PowerPC programs just because of the increased power. But, it still would likely show some decrease in performance when comparing that PowerPC program to the 1.8 GHz iMac G5.
    I hope this helps.
Let us know if you have other questions.

  • Are UCS hardware upgrades service disruptive?

    Hi Community,
Is fabric interconnect hardware upgrade from dual (clustered) 6120XP to dual 6248 service disruptive?
Is adding a new 5108 chassis to the existing UCS configuration with dual 6120XP service disruptive?

    Thanks Kenny.
1). I have actually been using this document for my project, and I think I worked out a pretty good migration plan based on it, but there are some grey areas/questions, MARKED IN BOLD CAPS. Could you clarify them for me?
Step 1 Upgrade UCS firmware across all the devices to the same version - 2.1(1f). THE NEW 6248S CAN BE TEMPORARY CONFIGURED AS STANDALONE OR IN A CLUSTER FOR THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE, AND THEN THE CONFIGURATION SHOULD BE WIPED OUT AND THE FABRIC INTERCONNECTS POWERED OFF.
Step 2 Using either the UCS manager CLI or GUI, verify the state (subordinate or active) of the existing (production) fabric interconnects.
!!! Step 3 Back up the software configuration information and the UCS Manager software !!!
Step 4 Disable the server ports on the subordinate fabric interconnect – NEW or EXISTING? THIS STEP IS CONFUSING AND IT IS REFERENCED IN STEP 17.
Step 5 Power down the EXISTING subordinate fabric interconnect by unplugging it from the power source. If you are monitoring the upgrade using a KVM session, you may need to reconnect the KVM session when you power down the fabric interconnect.
THE NEW FABRIC INTERCONNECT(S) SHOULD BE POWERED OFF AT THIS POINT
Step 6 Disconnect the cables running from the chassis IO Modules to the subordinate fabric interconnect ports in slot 1 (the old EXISTING fabric interconnect).
Step 7 Connect these cables into the corresponding ports in slot 1 on one of the new Cisco UCS 6248 UP fabric interconnect, using the connection records to preserve the port mapping and the configured server pinning.
See Fabric Interconnect Port Connection Record, on page 7.
See Fabric Interconnect Upgrade Considerations, on page 1.
Step 8 Disconnect the L1/L2, M1 management, and Console cables on the old fabric interconnect. The ports for these connections are on the opposite side of the interconnect, so if your cables are just barely long enough to connect two rack-adjacent UCS 6120 interconnects you will probably need new cables.
Step 9 Connect the M1 management, and Console cables to the new Cisco UCS 6248 UP.
Step 10 Connect the L1/L2 cables that were disconnected to the new Cisco UCS 6248 UP. L1 connects to L1, L2 connects to L2.
Step 11 Disconnect the Ethernet or FC cables from slot 2 of the old fabric interconnect.
Step 12 Connect the Ethernet or FC cables to the corresponding ports in slot 2 of the new Cisco UCS 6248 UP. Some may go to slot 1, depending on the mappings planned out earlier in the process
I HAVE NO SLOT 2 ON THE NEW FABRIC INTERCONNECTS ON THE OLD ONES, SIX PORTS IN SLOT 2 ARE CONFIGURED AS FIBER CHANNEL PORTS. WILL I NEED TO MANUALLY CONFIGURE LAST SIX PORTS AS FC PORTS? IF YES, AT WHAT STEP IS THIS CONFIGURATION DONE, AND ARE THE FIBER CHANNEL CABLES SUPPOSED TO BE PLUGGED IN BEFORE OR AFTER THE PORTS ARE CONFIGURED AS FC PORTS?
Step 13 Connect the power to the new Cisco UCS 6248 UP, it will automatically boot and run POST tests.
Important:         Directly connect the console cable to a terminal and observe the boot sequence. You should at some point see the Basic System Configuration Dialog, where you will configure the switch as a subordinate interconnect. - IS THIS THE WIZARD THAT RUNS ON EVERY UNCONFIGURED FABRIC INTERCONNECT WHEN YOU POWER IT ON, WHEN YOU HAVE TO GIVE IP, NAME, DNS, ETC.? CAN I USE THE SAME IP THAT WAS ON THE OLD FABRIC INTERCONNECT?
If you do not see this dialog, you either have different builds of software on your old primary and new subordinate, or the new subordinate has previously been part of a cluster and will need to have all configuration information wiped before it can be added to a cluster as a subordinate. In either case, immediately disconnect the L1 and L2 connections and complete the bringup as a standalone fabric interconnect, then correct the issue before proceeding further.
I AM NOT SURE IF THE NEXT STEP IS APPLICABLE TO ME AT ALL, AS I DO NOT HAVE N10-E0440, I HAVE N10-E0060. COULD YOU COMMENT ON THIS?
Step 14 (Optional) Remap UCS 6100 fabric interconnect FC ports 2/1 to 2/4 on a N10-E0440 expansion module or any slot 3 ports onto the new fabric interconnect expansion module.
    a) Use UCS Manager to delete the ports on the subordinate fabric interconnect that you will need to move within the configuration - WHERER DO I DELETE THE PORTS - ON THE NEW ONE?
    b) For each port you have just deleted, create new ports on either slot 1 or slot 2. These ports must use the same port type definitions as the old ports, but will use different port numbers.
    c) For recently moved Ethernet server ports, reconfigure the associated service profile to use the new port number for the appropriate LAN pin group.
    d) For recently moved uplink Ethernet ports, reconfigure the port channel settings to use the new ports.
    e) For recently moved uplink FC ports, reconfigure the associated service profile SAN pin group to use the new ports.
    f) Re-acknowledge chassis for blade servers and fabric extender for rack servers.
This will be disruptive to traffic, but is necessary in this specific scenario. DO I LOOSE CONNECTIVITY FOR THE ENTIRE CHASSIS, OR JUST ONE FABRIC?
Step 15 The new subordinate fabric interconnect will automatically synchronize the configuration and database/state information from the primary fabric interconnect. Synchronization between primary and subordinate fabric interconnects can take several minutes. The port configuration is copied from the subordinate switch to the new hardware.
Step 16 Verify that the data path is ready.
See Verifying that the Data Path is Ready.
Make sure all faults are resolved before proceeding.
    a) Verify and if necessary reconfigure the SAN pin group for FC ports in the associated service profile.
    b) Verify and if necessary reconfigure the LAN pin group for Ethernet ports in the associated service profile.
    c) Verify and if necessary reconfigure the port channel for uplink Ethernet ports.
THE FOLLOWING STEP IS ALSO CONFUSING. IF IT IS TALKING ABOUT THE OLD SUBORDINATE FABRIC INTERCONNECT THAT IS BEING REPLACED, WHY DO WE NEED TO ENABLE THE SERVER PORTS ON IT, THERE IS NOTHING CONNECTED TO IT. IF IT IS TALKING ABOUT THE NEW ONE - 6248, THEN, IT MEANS THEY HAVE TO BE DISABLED IN STEP 4, BUT IT MAKES NO SENSE, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE ANY CONFIGURATION ON IT. CAN YOU CLARIFY?
Step 17 Enable the server ports that had been disabled in Step 4. -
    a) If you have changed port mappings, you may need to re-acknowledge the chassis or rack server connected to the subordinate fabric interconnect. DOES IT APPLY TO ALL TYPES OF PORTS – FC, SERVER, UPLINK ETHERNET PORTS?
    b) Verify and if necessary reconfigure Ethernet ports as server ports.
Step 18 Promote the subordinate fabric interconnect to active, and repeat the process on the second Cisco UCS 6248 UP. Cable the second new fabric interconnect identically to the first, and allow the reconfiguration done to be applied to the second new fabric interconnect as well. DOES THE SECOND NEW 6248 NEED TO BE OFF OR ON WHEN CABLING IT? DO I NEED TO GO THROUGH THE WIZARD AT THE POWER ON TO MAKE IT A PART OF THE CLUSTER?
See Forcing a Fabric Interconnect Failover.
2). Does CISCO have a document outlining the steps for adding a chassis?
    Regards,
    Maxim.

  • SELECT from table vs. CALL FUNCTION

    Hello,
I have always wondered what the "best practice" is in this case, so I am looking for input.  When writing custom reports etc. in SAP, is it generally regarded as better practice to write a SELECT statement to get a line from say a Txxx configuration table, or is it best to use an associated BAPI or call to function module?  I know in some cases perfomance must obvioulsy be considered, but in terms of SAP's recommendations or upgrade considerations, which is typically better?
Assume for example something as simple as getting company code data...  Is it best to do <b>SELECT * FROM T001...</b> or to call a BAPI like <b>BAPI_COMPANYCODE_GETDETAIL</b>?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
Never accusing people of regarding performance, however I emphasize safety while developing. Even if it is a T* table, I try to use a standard function or call a subroutine of a standard program doing the work. I feel safer this way. Nevertheless, when I can't find any suitable (as of its interface), I use direct SELECT statements.
If it is a simple report program then doing direct selects may be tolerable. However, if it is a more sophisticated one, especially if it deals with database updates, I highly recommend to use standards.
As another way, I am aware you mean simple tables, but by the way, if it has a functional relation with a business entity (e.g. pa0001 for employee), I regard it as mandatory using standard FMs where applicable (I feel myself obliged to call "HR_READ_INFOTYPE" instead of using "SELECT* FROM PA0001...").

  • Error when launching transaction code CRMBS02

Hello all...whenever we attempt to launch the t-code CRMBS02 or BS02, we get a popup that says:
Error in object editing: This syntax cannot be used for an object name
Selecting the documentation drop down provides:
    Message no. TK103
    Diagnosis
The syntax of the transferred objects is incorrect. R3TR BSVS  made this check.
This could be caused by the following:
The object type R3TR BSVS is unknown
The syntax of the object name  is incorrect
The object is a component of a system object
    System Response
    The function terminates.
    Procedure
    Correct the syntax.
Any suggestions?  When this occurs, it does not enable editing and allows for display only.  I have SAP_ALL assigned to the user, so I don't see any authorization errors when I trace the transaction code.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
    Joe

    Hello Joe,
Tasks template of type T and Workflow Task of type WF, are no more used after release 45b. The were substituted by the TS Templates and by Workflow Template.
    Please notes: 114811 -
From release 4.5 onwards only WS/TS tasks can be created via the standard workflow editor transaction however WF tasks created in previous releases may still be maintained.  If it is important to be  able to create WF flows in release 4.5 then you may still do so with  transaction PFWF. This transaction has been removed from the menu to  encourage the use of WS flows wherever possible.
A copy utility to copy WF flows and it's components to WS flows will be made available to speed up the transfer to client independent flows.
"Check also note: *152871    Release Upgrade considerations for workflow 3. WS / WF workflows (all releases)
"From Release 3. 1 onwards, it is possible to create customer workflows
    of type 'WS'.
Solution: If you have 'WF' workflows, they will continue to run after an upgrade. You can modify them too. However, some of the new features of future releases only apply to 'WS' workflows. See note 114811 for a complete discussion of this subject.
You should pass from T and WF templates to the New WS and TS templates.
    1) In relation to workflows of type 'WF' (Workflow Task) and task 'T' they have not been developed since release 40B, instead the Workflow Template (WS) was introduced and Tasks 'TS'. This error has seldomly
been observed in the case of  trying  to work with WFlow tasks of type WF instead of type WS.
Existing WF will run also in higher releases, however if you change a WF task in a higher release it may produce dumps or numerous errors. This is valid too for Tasks.
    Please refers to note 114811.
If you want to change them please copy them first to templates type WS or TS rather than WF or T. Use PFTC in order to copy them and then you can make the changes and you will have much more functionality than type
    WF or T.
