10.6.7 Combo Update refuses to install on new MBP '11

I have a 2-weeks old MBP 17'', just downloaded the 10.6.7 combo updater which tells me that
"Mac OS X Update Combined can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update"
When selecting "Macintosh HD".
Any suggestions?
Regards
Markus

I do have a similar issue with a MB. There was a big problem with the last update (10.6.6). I had to wipe the disk and start from scratch and reinstall 10.6. The subsequent update to 10.6.6 worked alright after that.
Now the same thing with 10.6.7. It recognizes the new version and downloads it. The installation starts as usual, only to get stuck minutes before one would have expected it to finish successfully.
When I start all over I seem to be stuck with the first download. How can I persuade the MB to start a new download?
(By the way: My iMac accepted the update with now problems whatsoever)

  • HELP: Compressor 3.0.2 Update refuses to install.

I needed to install DVDSP CONTENT so I used FCPS2 Installer Disk. Unavoidably, ALL apps were re-intalled before the content loaded. So I downloaded all the app updates. All updated fine except Compressor 3.0. The 3.0.2 Update refuses to install. And, Compressor refuses to fully start-up.
    There is a Receipt PKG for Compressor 3.0, 3.0.1, 3.0.2, plus Qmaster_Frameworks.pkg 3.0 and Qmaster.pkg 3.0
Removing 3.0.2 doesn't allow either Compressor 3.0.1 or 3.0.1 to install.
    1) Any idea what's wrong and/or a simple way of fixing?
    2) Is there a way of Installing Compressor 3.0 from the Install Disk WITHOUT returning all the other apps to their original state?
< WHY on earth does the Install UPDATE versions that are obviously newer with older versions? >
    3) Will Pacifist auto-remove the current version of Compressor or do I still need to TRY to do this manually?

Interesting. Check one thing for me. Go to your Control Panels, click on Software Update, and see if "Download important updates automatically" is enabled. If not, enable it, then click the Check Now button. This will download the file to your drive, and you should see it.
If you do this, and the file still isn't there, then I'm stumped as to why it isn't downloading. Like I said, I had this same issue on both my computers, and the same solution worked both times.
Let me know how this turns out.

  • 10.4.8 combo update won't install

    Hi all ,
I'm having a bit of a problem installing the 10.4.8 combo update on a 2.0 15" MBP . Initially we tried to install the Delta update via software update and the machine went down with a kernel panic . Before fully diagnosing why we had the panics and seeing alot of information here on the forums , we did an archive and install back to 10.4.6 , which took many attempts to accomplish , but the machine is now running smoothly . Now we have all personal data backed up ... and are attempting the combo update .Permissions have been repaired and machine was restarted , First attempt ended immediately with a failed md5 so we redowned the combo update and attempted again .
2nd and 3rd attempts ended with the update stalling saying installation failed to complete install. .
What is the best thing to do going forward ? ... is something wrong with the download or with a setting in the machine . Am i overlooking something ?
    any direction would help
    thanks in advance
( I have successfully updated my 2 12" PBs to 10.4.8 via the Delta update)

Ok here is the update . Since we couldn't get it to install 100% from the dvd's , we tried to run the hardware test, suspecting maybe it was the ram that was shipped with the machine, or quite possibly a hard drive failure . MBP was rebooted with disc 1 in the drive holding down the option key and brought us to the dual boot screen (Boot camp or Parallels or any flavor of windows OS was NOT on the machine). OSX boot was selected and we were greeted by the setup screen again . This time however, the option to customize was visible . SO the machine was set up with no iLife or trial packages selected . OSX went right on the drive and booted up into 10.4.6. So now the machine is up and running , minus the iLife suite and Iwork , quicken , and MS office trial packages . It was hard enough that the machine was 200 miles away and this was being done on the telephone , but i'm still trying to understand what happened. Even with all the information posted after the fact of the update on the forums , intructions followed to the T for combo update , we still had the install failure. The last known working OS state prior to this update was the 10.4.7 , which was applied without a hitch when it released . We're hoping that something is actually wrong with DVD2 , although its unlikely since it was shipped with the system 8 weeks ago . Would love to hear some hindsight ideas about what is going on here . As i stated in a previous post , 2 12" PB's were updated without any problems at all and are still running perfectly . NO network issues , no kernel panics , or any other issues . I've recommended the computer be brought into a genius for a looking at . We will see what happens.

  • Aperture update refusing to install

Although i have Aperture 3.3 installed the update to 3.3.2 refuses to install with message "Aperture 3.0 or later is required to install this update."  This is the reason what App Store ist not listing Aperture when an update is available.
What could i do to overcome this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
that cannot be your system, if you are using Aperture 3.3?
Have you moved Aperture from the Applications folder to a subfolder or renamed it? To install the update, aperture must be named simply "Aperture", without any additions and located in the Applications folder on your System volume.

  • 10.8.2 combo update will not install

I have a Mac mini late 2012, Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I face a problem with Safari and I thought that installing the combo update might help. However, at the "Destination Select" appears the yellow warning sign along with the message " OS X Update Combined can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update".
    Any ideas ?.

Good luck - if you want to do an erase and reinstallation, you can do so by holding down the Command, option and R keys whilst booting. If you just want to do a new install of the OS, just hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting and go from there. The 'special edition' that your machine needs will be downloaded and installed.

  • Snow Leopard Graphics Update refuses to Install

    I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.4
And the Snow Leopard Graphics Update won't install, and reports:
"Snow Leopard Graphics Update can't be installed on this disk. This update requires Mac OS X 10.6.4."
So far I've tried...rebooting and disk verify, and would welcome any other suggestions.
    Thanks!

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
the Snow Leopard Graphics Update was released before your 2010 Mac Pro was released so chance are very good that the Graphics Update is already incorporated in the Snow Leopard version you have on the Mac Pro.
Plus the 2010 Mac Pros are not mentioned in the "Products Affected" list of the Graphics Update http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4286
So, in short you don't need this update.

  • Vista SP1 Integrated install on new MBP (late 2008)?

I have never used Boot Camp before, but have found I still need Windows for a few programs.
I have a new MBP and wanted to confirm I can install from an integrated Vista Home Premium Sp1 32-bit disc. I read the Vista Sp1 DVD boots differently from a non-Sp1 Vista install DVD.
Do I have to find a Vista disc that does not have Service Pack 1 integrated?
    Thanks for the help!

No... You should be just fine with Vista and SP1 on the same disc. I have installed Vista with and without SP1 with no problems. Its actually much easier to have the updates on the same disc.

  • 9.2 Update refuses to Install

I got the request to update my iTunes to 9.2.1 and complied and attempted to update. For some reason though I downloaded everything and the said "Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools > Download Only and try installing manually." The problem persists so I did as the error report told me. As soon as I tried that I still wouldn't install and said I either need to log in as an administrator or connect one, which I have no idea how to do. It refuses now to let me into iTunes and every time I try to it attempts to install and repeats the administrator warning when it fails. Is there any options besides losing all my music (had it on external hardware but that broke) and doing an uninstall/install overhaul??

I'm in the same situation. My problem is that itunes wont look up the names of songs in its current state and I think it happened since I've been in this loop of trying to install itunes 9.2 for 64 bit win 7. Every time I open itunes I get the message that it needs to be re-installed. It works OK except it doesn't look up the names of songs. I get a message to download the new verion. I am the administraitor and I save the 64 bit installer to my desk. Right click on it and run as an administator -- it goes through the whole process and then hangs and a message comes on and says I don't have enough permision. It says something about running it mannually using tools and I have done that too. Can remember at what point I got that option but it was on ontrying this and searching boards or other types of support for e days e of the itune pop ups. I've been now.

  • What do I do if a combo update fails to install?

On a MacBook Pro with 10.6.7 installed, tried to do a regular update, and it died.  Downloaded the 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1, and it fails to install.  are there some things to do next?

It was the drivers for a Canon printer. I ended up getting help from Apple's phone tech support. The solution was to go into the library, delete all existing Canon drivers, and re-install the printer via Software Update.
Thanks for the prompt reply, though. It always feels good to be listened to.

  • G5 10.5.8 Combo Update codec overrun - install fails

    Hi,
I still have my first mac, a Power Mac G5, but it has been acting as a center speaker stand for some time now. A couple of years ago it started playing up, I spent hours and pounds trying to fix it, gave up and bought a shiny new iMac. So with the festive season upon us and orders to tidy up, I thought I'd have one last try at fixing it before turning it into a drinks cabinet.
As I recall, it all started to go wrong one day when I tried to download a large update to something. When I tried to install the update I got a Codec Overrun error and/or a Corrupt File message. As it stands today the machine is running a clean install of OSX 10.5.6 and I am failing to install the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.dmg upgrade. I currently have 2 copies of the update.
One copy on the desktop  was downloaded directly from the Apple support site. The .dmg opens and verifies OK and I can launch the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.pkg. This runs through the installation sequence, past the password but finally comes up with an error message "Install Failed. The installer could not validate the contents of the 'MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8' package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
Another copy in my downloads folder, put there by the Software Updater, doesn't get that far. It comes up with "Warning,The following disk image failed to mount. Image - MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.dmg, Reason - codec overrun."
    So far I have tried:-
Memory - run third party memory checker application (can't remember which one) and found no faults.Tried different set of memory cards
Hard disk - run all the disk check and repair utilities, re-formatted, repartitioned. Tried a different hard disk.
OSX 10.5.6 - reinstalled from original disks several times.
MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8 - downloaded via Software Updater process and direct from Apple Support website. Downloaded via wi-fi, ethernet, different Mac, different PC. Always get the exact same file size.
    Resetting the PRAM etc
    New standby battery
    Installing in Safe Mode
    Swearing.
None of this has worked. I get some different error messages but they are all variations of "codec overrun", "corrupt file" or "Install failure"
Anyone got any other ideas? Or should I just get on with the drinks cabinet conversion?
    Thanks

That message isn't a space available message. If you bring up Disk Utility, how does it say the partition is formatted, ie, partition format, write status, and partition map scheme? Assume SMART status is verified, yes?

  • 2 ThinkVantage System Updates refuse to install

Fired up the ThinkVantage System Update program yesterday and today and I keep getting the same two updates in the Optional updates tab, ThinkPad Power Manager and Lenovo AutoLock.  Selecting both and pressing Next goes through the download and installation process.  The first item supposedly installs whereas the second gives the following message:
    1 Package did not install
      Lenovo AutoLock
If I choose to install this manually I am told "This program requires Windows 7 or later." and install fails.  Regardless because of the first update I am prompted to restart my machine.  Doing so and firing up ThinkVantage System Update again shows that both updates are still available!  Checking the version of Power Manager it shows that it indeed has not been updated.  Any suggestions?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No clue why it did not install through ThinkVantage System Update, but downloading the updates from the lenovo support site and installing them the old fashioned way worked.

  • Pro Application Support Updater refuses to install

When I download the ProKit updater and then run it, I get "You cannot install Pro Application Support on this volume. There was an error while evaluating JavaScript for the package."
My iMac is less than a year old. Loads of RAM and disk. Latest O/S with updates. Final Cut Express 4.01, with its update.
Any ideas, or do I call Support?

I am having the same issue. Both through Software Update and downloading the update manually. The exact error message is:
"You cannot install Pro Application Support on this volume. There was an error while evaluating JavaScript for the package."
I also have the latest Java updates and OS so I am not sure what to do at this point.

  • Firmware 2.3 update refuses to install

I tried installing the 2.3 update as I have with all the past firmware releases. This time however, my Apple TV restarted, then said update failed giving me the option to restart/run diagnostics/factory restore.
Diagnostics were ok, so I restarted and re-downloaded the update. It failed again and after a factory restore, still will not install.
Worst of all, I gave up 2.2 for 1.0 thinking my most recent firmware was corrupted. Now I really need that update

I found the solution so this response is for others who run into this issue.
It turns out that the Apple tv is able to tell when the hard drive has been replaced. The fix is not the easiest thing in the world to pull off, but shouldn't be a problem if you have already been messing the with the hard drive.
The fix that worked was to replace the factory restore partition of the Apple tv with the 2.3 firmware and then run a factory restore. It seems that the hardware check only runs while in upgrade and not restore mode.

  • Update has stopped installing the new OS

Iv'e had my playbook connected to the computer for over 3 hours now trying to install the latest OS and it has been stuck on the same part of the installation.
    Installing sys.hotspotBrowser
That is apparently what it is doing, but it hasn't done a thing after filling the bar about a third of the way. Any suggestions? If I unplug the playbook it might wipe it.

Main Menu is a nice shortcut system through the menubar.  Unfortunately many third party menubar applications break even with free updates.    You already have the Launcher & Stacks in the Dock to manage folders of your applications etc...  At least Main Menu was quick to update this time for Lion.  Before upgrading, consider my FAQ*:

  • I can't update or Re install the new Firefox on my win 8.1 system. The setup up that downloaded is not working, why?

The setup up that downloaded is not working.

If the file has "stub" in the name, it needs to connect back to the server for additional files. Some firewalls block that. Try installing the full installer from the following page (scroll down for your preferred language):
    https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/
    Any luck?
