1000's of old emails keep dumping into mail

Help. My wife has an iBook with Mac OS X Tiger. Last November, I bought her an iPhone and set up her mail account on the iPhone. Since then, 1000's of old emails keep dumping into her laptop Mail inbox. She will take an hour to delete them, but then a week later suddenly they are all back. I deleted the email account on the iPhone in case that had anything to do with it. I don't know if this is a Apple Mail problem or a mail provider issue. I've checked the settings on her mail and can't see anything that affects it. I have the new Mac with Leopard and have never had any problems with mail with my previous iMAC or this one but here laptop is another matter.
Any suggestions?

Which protocol is your wife using with Mail - POP, or IMAP? If it's POP, once the emails appear again, right click on the mailbox in question and select 'Get Info'. Ensure "Show messages: All messages on POP server" is selected, and see if the emails in question are listed. If so, click the 'Remove From Server' button at the bottom on the right.
If not, it appears this is likely an issue with Mail not removing the messages completely when deleted.

After some initial issues (which I believe were really part of the "learning curve" for a new device), I'm really loving my LG Ally.  However, I have one issue that I just can't seem to figure out how to fix:  My home email, which is a POP3 email, keeps sending me "new" emails, that are actually old emails that I have deleted from both my phone and my home email.  In some cases, it is even email that I have completely dumped from my "deleted items" on my home email.  Why does it do that?  I have the settings on my home email account set to NOT save email on the server, so why doesn't it seem to be working?  I don't have any problems with my work email which is on an exchange server.  Any ideas?
Hi.  I am sorry you are having issues with your email and I can certainly look into it for you.   When did this start happening?  Dif you download any applications before this started happening?  Try to delete that particular email account and set it up again to see if that works.

  • Old emails keep coming back

I am using Mail on a macbook pro with retina display, running OS X 10.9.5.  Recently, duplicates of old emails keep coming back into my inbox - unread, as if they were brand new emails.  They always come a handful at a time.  They show the original dates of receipt, so they appear way down in my inbox and I have to sort by 'unread' to bring them to the top and delete them.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason - e.g. some are from contacts, some aren't, some I deleted when I originally received them, some I kept, some I replied to, some I didn't.  Any ideas on how to stop this happening?

    Cool.
First, when it finds the OLD messages can you actually open them up? If so, you can/should rebuild your Trash Mailbox. I suspect you cannot open the old message though, which points to your Envelope INDEX being messed up.
Quit Mail. Then, under ~/Library/Mail is a file called Envelope Index. Move it to the Trash. Or if that makes you nervous, drag it to the desktop. Open Mail. It will give you a message that will scare you -- a Welcome to Mail or a Mail Message Import window will pop up. This is fine. It will tell you it is importing your mail. Really it sees all your mailboxes but no index so it is creating that index.
See if that doesn't fix your problem.

  • TS3276 why the emails keep coming into my inbox after I delete them?

My emails keep coming into my inbox after I deleted them. Why is that?

It sounds like your ISP's Mail Server is an IMAP type that retains the Mail on the Server.  You need to go into your Mail> Preferences>Accounts> and set the Mail to Delete from the Server, after a set amount of time.
    Hope this helps

  • Some email is downloaded into Mail and some mail is left on the POP server

    Hi All,
I have a weird problem where some email is downloaded into Mail and some mail is not.
If I log into our ISP's webmail system, there are a whole bunch of emails that are just sitting there. These emails have not ever been downloaded to Mail.
I've tried to create a duplicate account, but Mail doesn't allow the same username & password in more than one account, which is kind of frustrating - I get an error stating that these user details are already in use.
Our ISP says it's the client machine, as no one else in the office is having this issue.
The connection doctor can connect to the servers and 30 or 40 emails are downloaded to Mail each day - just some emails don't.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Mail 2.0.7
Any help would be much appreciated.

Assuming the account is a POP type account, quit Mail first and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2.
Delete the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 file and empty the Trash.
Launch Mail and a new MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 file will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder.
If successful, any previously downloaded messages that remain on the server will be downloaded again along with any messages available on the server not yet downloaded by Mail.
The reason you cannot create two accounts in Mail with the same user name and incoming mail server is based on the account and associated mailbox filing structure within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail. When creating an account in Mail, an account named folder is created at the first level within the Mail folder named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account.
In addition, if this were possible I don't think it would resolve much by having identical accounts created in Mail with both accounts checking the incoming mail server at the same time.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press the On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, to restart press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).

  • HT5622 I changed my email that was associated with my last Apple ID.the old email keeps popping up every time I want to purchase a new app. From the app. Store

I am having trouble getting free appt..from the App Store...I changed my email that is associated with my Apple ID..when I go into the app. Store my old email address keeps popping up..I need help

Apps are forever tied to the AppleID used to download them. Whenever you
try to update an app downloaded with the old ID, you will be asked for that old ID.
Delete the apps and redownload with your new ID - you will have to pay again
for any purchased apps. Or use the old ID. Or am I not understanding what you
    are asking?
Did you log out of the AppStore after changing the email and log back in again?

  • How do I get my new email at apple to stay?  I keep gong in and changing it and the old email keeps showing up and it won't let me in!

How do I get my email changed so I can go into the store and apps?  I have gone in and changed it but it keeps going back to the old email?

Sign out of old ID and sign in with new ID
    Settings>Store>Apple ID

  • I have a new email address and my old email keeps coming up on icloud when trying to update apps and i don't know the password or security questions for the old email. I can sign in with my apple id which is tied to another email but not itunes how to fix

I have an apple id and it has my current email attached to it. however when i go to update apps it's asking for the password for an old email. I no longer have the old email and can't use it. when I go to icloud on my ipad it asks for the password for old email. it doesn't allow me to change the old email to current. when i go to reset it i can't remember the password or security questions for the old email so it doesn't let me go any further. How do I fix this? Do i need to call apple support?

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

  • How do I delete an old email account that's associated with my Apple account? When trying to activate my Apple account my old email keeps popping

How do I delete an old email account that's associated with my Apple ID? When trying to login on to my Apple account with my  ipad2 the old email account is still tagged as the primary account.

OK that's what Ithought you were talking about.
You can't actually delete an old Apple ID. You just sign into the new ID to use that one. Your old ID must be popping up because you used it in the past to purchase content with it. You cannot transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another Apple ID. You have to continue to use the old ID if you want to update content that was used to purchase with that ID.
Did you sign into your new account in the settings and you can't stay signed in?

  • Trying to update my apps with current email but old email keeps popping up!??

Trying to update my app store and it keeps popping up my old email address. How can you change it to your current one? Im trying to sign in but my old one pops up and even when I type in the correct password for the old one it. Says invalid but I want my current email!? HELPPP!!

Did you update your old iTunes account or create a new one ? If you updated the old one then try logging out of your account by tapping on your id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad. If you created a new account then you will need to continue to use the old account to download updates to its apps (or to redownload its content) - content is tied to the account that bought/downloaded it and it can't be transferred to a different account.

  • Old emails keep appearing on my phone.

I have just added my hotmail account to my iPhone 5s and every time I click in mail it downloads all my old emails. So far I have had 2000 emails come through to my phone which I have to keep deleting.
Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?
    Thank you

    Two options
One is to open your email app on your phone and select the account then open the settings for that account and select how many days you want to sync emails
Two is to open the email settings for said account on your Pc and change the pop settings as this could be down to the way your account is setup and may have nothing to do with your phone

Sign out of the iCloud account (In System Preferences>iCloud)
Then sign back in with the correct ID and password.

  • Old emails register as new mail in N900 with NM

    Hi there..
I wonder if anyone can help with a very annoying problem.. I am using NM with three different accounts loaded (2 x POP3 and 1 x Gmail).. One of the POP accounts is my main mailbox and has roughly 100-200 e-mails there-in..
My N900 is constantly flagging very old emails as 'new' and 'unread' e-mail.. This is very frustrating as usually it is the oldest mails, so I have to scroll all the way down and re-open each mail.. Then, the next day, they/or others will come through again as 'new' and 'unread'.. This is totally random from NM point of view..
This only started happening when the number of mails in my inbox became larger, over time. I do not have this problem (yet) on my other accounts which have far smaller inbox's..
Today I cleaned 100 mails off my server to try and resolve the problem by making the inbox smaller, but then I got 20 old mails registered as 'new' and 'unread'.!
I would like to be able to switch OFF the 'Sync with Inbox' option but this is not possible.. This would allow push e-mail to my phone and then I could download to my PC manually and set the emails not to stay on my server.. This way I could choose immediately whether to keep or delete mails from my phone inbox but still have them stored on my PC.. This would keep my phone inbox smaller and save data costs of syncing with inbox.. I am under the understanding that this is how it works with Blackberry Push Email..
PS : My NM setting for 'update automatically' is not selected.. My individual accounts are set to 'send and receive - as soon as possible'..
Apart from this problem, NM is working great on my phone and has been since I started using it a few months back..
    Thanks..

Thanks - reconfiguring my account to connect by "exchange" and not IMAP seems to have done the trick.  The instructions on how to accomplish this did not work in my case, however when I logged into BIS website and deleted my old account and added the account back again it automatically set it up as an exchange account.  I did need to restart my blackberry for it to actually start working (not clear why.)
One word of warning: I tried to configure my reply to address to be a different e-mail, but this did not work (I could no longer send e-mail).  This may be prohibited by my exchange server (or perhaps just not possible with any exchange server.)  I worked around this by adding the other e-mail account and setting it as the default so all new e-mails will appear to come from this address, though this will need to be manually set for a "reply".
(I use a dummy e-mail address which is passed through a spam filter and then forwarded to my actual exchange account.)
