  • JSF Intro Tutorial - Error Message: "Error instantiating web-application"

    Hi all there !
    I find JDeveloper a very good tool to learn how to produce websites.
    I 've just started with the tutorials.
    Specifically: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/10131/jsfintro/jsfintro.htm
    The problem I found is in Runing the application section:
    "1. ...Right-click /welcome.jsp in the diagram (faces-config.xml) and select Run from the context menu."
    The OC4J server starts, shows a lot of messages (warnings, errors, etc.) in its Log, open Firefox Navigator and shows a page with error: "Error instantiating web-application" , "Application: JSFIntro-view-webapp has been stopped".
    JDeveloper I am using is: version 10.1.3.1.0.
    I also tried with MS-IEXPLORE (changing the Preferences) with the same result (different look though).
    I am saving the log in a txt file I could send to you if needed.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Roberto,
    The jsfintro obe is working fine for me and most of the people who tested it.
    I've seen the "Error instantiating web-application" when I usually deploy to a
    Standalone OC4J being run on older JDK version than my JDev 10.1.3.1 (JDK 1.5)
    Yet, I don't think you are deploying the jsfintro application.
    Check where you installed JDeveloper: it is recommended to have it under
    a folder name without any space. eg: C:\jdev10131
    Check to see if you can run any other application :
    eg: in JDev, Help menu -> Cue Cards -> Learn about J2EE applications ...
    you should find some simple JSF ones.
    if that still doesn't work, try downloading JDevStudio version 10.1.3.2, then
    decompress it under your C:\jdev10132 folder, then run jdeveloper.exe.
    Hopefully, this will run fine.

  • Error instantiating web-application:Application named 'javasso' is in stopp

    Hi,
    I am getting the following error while logging to Oracle Application Console.
    "Error instantiating web-application:Application named 'javasso' is in stopped"
    Environment details are as under:
    SOA suite: 10.1.3.1
    Oracle Database: 11.1.0
    I started getting this error after doing the following steps. Earlier everything was working fine.
    1. Created a connection pool and Datasource in JDBC resources under administration on 10g DB which worked fine.
    2. Attempted creating a connection pool on 11g DB which said connectiion successful when testing connetion. But once finalised and then again tried testing it gave an error saying " Invalid user name/password ".
    3. Since I know the username and password were correct, I tried changing 'ORCL' in the URL with the tns alias ORCL_421.
    4. Since I changed the URL, i was prompted to restart the defaults.
    5. Once I clicked on restart, after long time the browser still showed the timer rotating. So I refreshed the browser and it showed the application server was up.
    6. I went to check the JDBC resources and all the CONNECTION POOLs and DataSources are vanished.
    7. I logged out and then when i am trying to login again, I am getting the above error.
    8. I tried launching ESB and got the similar error but this time for esb "Application named 'esb-dt' is in stopped state."
    I am not sure why this is happening. AScontrol.log has the following error stack:

    1) Application name has to be "default"
    Change <web-app application="eleicoes" name="eleicoes-web" root="/eleicoes" />
    to
    <web-app application="default" name="eleicoes-web" root="/eleicoes" />

  • Web Services Tutorial - Error instantiating web-application

    Hi all -
    I've been trying to follow the "Create a Web Service from a Java Class" tutorial in the JDeveloper help and I'm running into problems accessing the web-service. After starting the embedded OC4J server, I try to access the target URL and get the following error message:
    Error instantiating web-application
    Error compiling :C:\jdev\jdev\mywork\Application2\Project1\public_html: Syntax error in source or compilation failed in: C:\jdev\jdev\system\oracle.j2ee.10.1.3.40.66\embedded-oc4j\application-deployments\current-workspace-app\Application2-Project1-webapp\project1\runtime\MyWebService1_Service_SerializerRegistry12.java
    The thing is, I've actually tried the steps on a separate computer and it worked perfectly. But it seems like I have something misconfigured on this system which is giving me problems. Does anyone have any suggestions for my problem?
    Thanks

    I never did solve the problem. I decided to try out GeoServer for WFS and am very impressed. It was much easier to install and pretty feature-filled as well with a lot of documentation. I would definitely suggest checking it out to see if it will fit your needs.

  • Deploying JSF - ADF Faces (EA14) application to OAS 10.1.2

    JSF 1.1.01 problem
    I have an ADF Faces application that I have been working on in JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.2.223 and I thought that it was time to deploy it to an Oracle 10g AS (10.1.2) (WindowsXP SP2). A long time ago I did a test deploy of a sample program jsflogin and that works fine (although I now realize that this was a JSF 1.0 application) and my ADF application is, of course, JSF 1.1.
    As I've already said, my JSF 1.1 / ADF application works perfectly in JDeveloper. The problem is that the first time the OAS 10.1.2 deployed instance of my application hits a <f:tag> it fails. When the first <f:tag> was <f:loadBundle> the error looked like this:
    500 Internal Server Error
    java.lang.NullPointerException     at com.sun.faces.taglib.jsf_core.LoadBundleTag.doStartTag(LoadBundleTag.java:96)

    The rest is the same as above.
    I've got all the jsf, jstl, standard, and other jars in my WEB-INF/lib folder and there are no other jsf or jstl jars in the OAS home so I can't be connecting to the "wrong" library.
    Any hints? Has someone else out there successfully deployed to 10.1.2?
    Thanks in advance, Mark

    Okay, so my problem was that the URL I was using was the OC4J launch url (http://host/applicationname and my welcome-file-list was
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    I tried these two variations
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.faces</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>faces/LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    and neither of these worked either. (I did restart the OC4J node between each attempt.)
    I finally created an index.html file for the application with an automatic refresh content="0;URL=faces/LoginPage.jsp" and this is working.
    Should the welcome-file-list have worked? Am I doing something wrong here?
    Thanks for the help. Mark

  • [RESOLVED]Previously Functional EJB/JSF Hits Error

    In what I believe to be a library problem, I'm getting an error in the starting of a JSF app that was previously functional. On deploy, I get the following error in the application log:
    08/07/22 14:13:58.731 ui_deployment_profile: Error preloading servlet
    javax.servlet.ServletException: Error instantiating servlet 'AFCStatsServlet'. Servlet class oracle.webcache.adf.servlet.AFCStatsServlet
    not found in web-application ui_deployment_profile
    I also get a runtime error when trying to pull up a page:
    08/07/22 14:16:34.547 ui_deployment_profile: Servlet error javax.servlet.ServletException: Error loading filter 'PCF', filter-class 'oracle.webcache.adf.filter.FacesPageCachingFilter' not found
    I've read a bit online but nothing seems to tell me what libary is associated aside from 'ADF Faces Cache' which has, for all appearances, already been added to the project. I confess I'm kind of panicky because I'm trying to get this project near production ready by my last day next week. This error kind of blind-sided me.
    Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm deploying this to a 10.1.3.3 OAS App Server.

    I did some more research to find out if and how I had used any WebCache technology. Turns out some sequence of actions had created a reference to the AFC libraries in web-inf/adf-faces-config and created a cache object there and mappings in the web-inf/web.xml config file.
    To recap, a fix to this problem is to change adf-faces-config to delete the library reference and delete the afc tags. Then open web.xml and remove anything to do with the webcache libraries and PCF. Here are the three, not-necessarily-contiguous objects I removed from that file:
    <filter>
    <filter-name>PCF</filter-name>
    <filter-class>oracle.webcache.adf.filter.FacesPageCachingFilter</filter-class>
    </filter>
    <filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>PCF</filter-name>
    <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
    <dispatcher>REQUEST</dispatcher>
    <dispatcher>FORWARD</dispatcher>
    </filter-mapping>
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>AFCStatsServlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>oracle.webcache.adf.servlet.AFCStatsServlet</servlet-class>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>

    Is there a way to reset the LDAP information in SS to some type of default?
    I could really use a hand with this one.. any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed.

    Thanks John as always for your responses.
    I logged an SR with ORACLE 3 days ago and am still waiting for a response.. I will say however it was logged as a non-emergency since this is a DEV environment. I'm hopeful that there is a documented solution for restoring the LDAP somewhere in their technical notes.
    All the solutions I tried were based on an LDAP restoration from a backup since deleting the LDAP folder(s) results in a total LDAP restoration which I wasn't interested in so I avoided that path.
    I tried renaming the LDAP folder in each application and restoring the LDAP in Foundation I was assuming the other apps would get updated from Foundation but that didn't work... not sure why but it didn't.
    I ultimately was able to get the environment back up by essentially by restoring the LDAP from one of the backups stored in '/oracle/Middleware/user_projects/domains/EPMSystem/servers/FoundationServices0/data/ldap/backup'. I'm not 100% certain on how the communication flows between the different applications installed in the suite and I tried a number of things before landing on just restoring the Foundation LDAP and then sequentially starting the other applications, it seemed to work.

    When i try to deploy to my OC4J server from jDeveloper I get the following:

    Any ideas on how to fix this? I think whats happening is the app server is trying to deploy the file before its finished recieving the file.

  • Merging Two JSF, ADF BC Web Applications into One...

    My question is directly stated in the subject. What would be the best way to take two JSF, ADF BC web applications written by two developers and merge them into one web application. Any place to start would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Steve I wanted to try this method out first. I ran into a problem. I get a "HTTP 404 Not Found" error in the browser. I'm running this from the embedded OC4J in JDev. Maybe I don't understand how the context roots are referenced by the OC4J as they relate to testing this on my local machine.
    Browser links when pages are run seperately:
    http://10.13.8.44:8989/DptApp-UserInterface-context-root/faces/DptApp.jspx
    http://10.13.8.44:8989/EmpApp-UserInterface-context-root/faces/EmpApp.jspx
    Page locations on my local machine:
    \JDEV32\jdev\mywork\DptApp\UserInterface\public_html\DptApp.jspx
    \JDEV32\jdev\mywork\EmpApp\UserInterface\public_html\EmpApp.jspx
    Code from the bean that I'm using to navigate from EmpApp to DptApp:
        public String rtnRedirect() throws IOException {
            FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
            HttpServletResponse response = (HttpServletResponse)fc.getExternalContext().getResponse();
            response.sendRedirect("/DptApp/faces/DptApp.jspx");
            fc.responseComplete();
            return null;
        }I altered my redirect to reflect what I was seeing on my local machine (response.sendRedirect("/DptApp-UserInterface-context-root/faces/DptApp.jspx")) and still got the error. I'm sure I'm referencing the location of the pages incorrectly, but I'm not sure where to look to fix this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Any ideas on how to solve it highly appreciated

    Hi Debu,
    Thanks for your interest. I did, in fact, rebuild my app before trying
    to deploy it -- I re-compiled all the java classes using the target
    JDK version on the target machine, and re-built the JAR and EAR files.
    Yes, I suppose I could try what you suggest, but as I stated in my
    original post, I remember seeing this same problem in one of the
    other OC4J/Orion forums, and was sort of hoping that someone would
    be able to help me locate it.
    In any case, it's not really urgent and in the meantime I am continuing
    my development on SUN under Solaris 7 with OC4J version 1.0.2.2
    and JDK version 1.2.2_05a.
    Thanks again,
    Avi.
