10gR2 and ANSI

Does anyone know if 10gR2 fixed some problems with ANSI SQL? Also, where to read up on it.
For example this statement does not work with new ANSI syntax, but does with the older style SQL. It gets an ORA-00904 "PA_INSURED"."ORA_ROWSCN": invalid identifier
select     pa_insured.ora_rowscn,     pa_insured.*
from     cm_contact
inner join pa_insured
     on cm_contact.contact_id = pa_insured.contact_id
left outer join lu_insured_type
     on lu_insured_type.insured_type_id = pa_insured.insured_type_id
left outer join lu_carrier
     on lu_carrier.carrier_id = pa_insured.prior_carrier_id ;

  • Differences between oracle 10gr2 and 11gr2 warehouse bulider

    Hi All,
Could you please let me know the main differences between Oracle 10gr2 and Oracle 11gR2 warehouse builder.
Also , it would be great if anyone point me to the document where i can see the major differences.
    Thanks,
    Naveen.

    Hi Naveen,
The major difference between OWB10gR2 and 11gR2 is the target RDBMS.
In 10gR2 you have to use ORACLE as your target RDBMS (unless you are going for DB Gateways, that is a complete different story).
Where as in 11gR2 allows you to use any RDBMS as your target system . This is achieved by Code-Template mapping.
All is needed is that proper jdbc driver for the target system.
Also 11gR2 supports OBIEE RPD creation and etc.

Yes it is. The Oracle database wasn't initially designed to be ANSI compliant. As you correctly state the ANSI standards weren't around when it was initially designed, so the statement is perfectly correct. ;)Ok, in one sense it may be correct but it is a completely misleading statement. Not sure why you think it's misleading.Because there was no ANSI standard, so making it sound like a design choice The Oracle database wasn't initially designed to be ANSI compliant. would suggest to most readers that there was a standard to be compliant to.
Like saying Ford originally did not design their cars to incorporate safety features such as ABS, seat belts and air bags.
The OP asked "why oracle is having different syntaxes for joins than ANSI syntaxes ?" and the answer is that Oracle wasn't initially designed with ANSI compliance, so it has it's old non-ANSI syntax,As shown above, the old syntax was ANSI compliant at the time and to call it non-ANSI is either incorrect or misleading dependent on your point of view.
and since ANSI syntax became the standard it now supports that. And since ANSI switched to a new standard, Oracle had to implement the new standard as well as the previous ANSI standard would be more accurate in my opinion.
Nothing misleading as far as I'm aware in that.I find the whole discussion about ANSI and Oracle's supposed non-compliance, reads like it was Oracle's choice to deviate from the standards, when it was ANSI's bullheaded decisions to pointlessly change standards that left Oracle and other vendors out of compliance, and that was a decision made solely by ANSI.
This is probably the reason ANSI no longer produces SQL standards, the endless syntax fiddling would eventually have made forward left under outer joins a reality.

  • Problems with a New installation on 10GR2 and HTMLDB 2.0

I'm trying to build a new HTMLDB server using 10GR2 on Suse Linux.
The database is fine, and I've pulled the HTTP server from the 10GR2 companion CD which I can connect to ok. I downloaded and installed HTMLDB 2.0 without errors.
Following the 2.0 post install docs, it talks about HTTP 9.0.3 and Oracle 10G Release 1 - nothing about 10G Release 2.
The 10G instructions says to modify the marvel.conf file - except I don't have one anywhere on the server.
Has anyone else managed to build a fresh install using 10Gr2 and HTMLDB 2.0 ? - it looks like something in the config has changed.

  • Oracle 10gR2 and Forms 6i Combination

One of my company's division after suffering skill gap for many years decided finally to turn their system under my care. This means more work for me but it would be a welcome change since it will give back some exposure from my past life using SQLForms, CDE and Designer 2000 etc.
As a prerequisite I got involved to provide technical direction to a project to "modernize" their system with the "almost" current version that is still supported or "almost" supported by Oracle.
My question is this : ( In reference to Note 229929.1 Stating that Oracle 10GR2 and Form 6i combo is not supported as a combination ( because Form 6i is already desupported ) Is there anyone here have that combination running on production ?
    Was there any problem ?
At the back of my mind I am very confident that I can make this combination work .
It would be useful if someone can confirm this combo. (ie 10gR2 and Forms 6i).
You may ask "Why not go with the latest ? ".This was for many reasons. I don't want to introduce shocking changes to the developers (they are already behind on technology and skillset), also Forms 6i is still Client-server which where they want to remain at the moment. The project was given a very short time to convert the system.
Introducing a new architecture will definitely introduce more task than these guys can handle in such short period.
Feedback for any real life experience on this combo is appreciated .
    Thanks in advance.

  • Translator.jar file reference in bin/ott in 10gR2 and 10.1.0.4

I was wondering if anyone has noticed if the invalid translator.jar path in the ott file created during the Oracle Server install has been corrected in R2?
I believe there was an unpublished bug 3360534 to correct the invalid reference, but wasn't sure if it was corrected in R2.
I'm downloading R2 now and was wondering if I would need the Companion CD to get the proper translator.jar like in 10.1.0.4
If anyone has noticed already, please let me know.

    In case anyone is interested,
The invalid path entry for the translator.jar in the delivered ott file has been removed in 10gR2.

  • Oracle SQL and ANSI

    Hi,
Do you know if the extensions of Oracle SQL
    - DML error logging
    - model clause
    - pivot clause
are supported by ANSI SQL (or other RDBMS) ?
    Thanks for your help

    AFAIK
The <b><tt>Error Logging</tt></b> clause can be used in <tt><b>Insert</b></tt>, <tt><b>Update</b></tt> and <tt><b>Merge</b></tt> statements

    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/tables004.htm#ADMIN11640
There seems to be no difference concerning join syntax
<tt><b>Model</b></tt> and <tt><b>Pivot</b></tt> clauses belong to the <tt><b>Select</b></tt> statement
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e26088/statements_10002.htm#SQLRF01702
There seems to be no difference concerning join syntax
    However:
How Oracle Virtual Private Database Policies Affect Outer or ANSI Join Operations
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/network.112/e16543/vpd.htm#DBSEG305
Oracle Virtual Private Database rewrites SQL by using dynamic views. For SQL that contains outer join or ANSI operations, some views may not merge and some indexes may not be used. This problem is a known optimization limitation. To remedy this problem, rewrite the SQL to not use outer joins or ANSI operations.

  • Forms 10g and ANSI joins

    Hello,
I had thought that Oracle Forms 10g was now fully in line with the 10g database in terms of the SQL and PL/SQL it supports. However, I notice that while I can use ANSI-syntax joins ('inner join', 'left outer join' etc) in record groups, I can't use them in trigger or procedure PL/SQL. For example, the following:
      cursor dist_bacs_csr(c_pln_id plan.id%TYPE)
      is
        select a.id as a_id
             , a.prcng_ccy_cd
             , a.sht_nam
             , a.dist_bac_key1
             , a.dist_bac_key2
        from   asset a
        inner join asset_hldg ash on (a.id = ash.a_id)
        inner join bank_acc bac on (a.dist_bac_key1 = bac.key1 and a.dist_bac_key2 = bac.key2)
        where ash.inc_acc_ind = 'I'
        and   ash.pln_id = c_pln_id
order by ash.a_id;works fine in SQL Plus, but if I try to include it in my form, I get the error 'Encountered the symbol "INNER" when expecting one of the following: ,; for group having intersect minus order start union where connect'
Does anyone know if Oracle plan to support ANSI joins in future versions of Forms? Or is there something obvious I'm missing..?
    Cheers,
    James
Edited by: James Killeen on Aug 31, 2009 8:29 PM (The alias we normally use for the ASSET table apparently triggered the forum's filter against inappropriate language..! Replaced with a nice harmless 'a' instead...)

Thanks for that - I tried FULL INNER JOIN as well but still wouldn't compile. I'll probably stick with the old-style join format for now, as I don't want to make this a procedure just so I can use the new syntax. A shame, though, as I much prefer the ANSI syntax - would be curious to know if Oracle have any plans to support it in future versions of Forms. Does anyone know if it's supported in Forms 11?

  • OAS 10gR2 and e-Biz app tier on same server

I seem to have some sort of contention on my application server and I was wondering if anybody might have a suggestion on how to verify my setup or troubleshoot.
I have a Red Hat ES 4 32-bit server that is running an 11.5.10.2 e-Biz application tier. This install was done by our e-Biz dba who has since left the company.
I have since installed OAS 10gR2 for another application with the intent that we would share this server.
This has been done successfully on our Test server with no issues but the app tier is not being shutdown every night like it is in Production.
However I have had a couple of situations where after my e-Biz application was restarted over night it was found to not be working in the morning with this error:
    'JSP error: Request URI:/OA_HTML/AppsLocalLogin.jsp'
I tired to stop/start the e-Biz app tier but no go. The fix was to stop my oracle OAS server and stop/start the 11i e-Biz applicaztion tier.
    CLARIFICATION:
The port pool assigned on this server is 0 I guess (as it uses 8000) and that url always works (servername:8000), it is the E-Business Home Page that fails and generates that JSP error.
I don't think it is HW related but more of a configuration issue. I know I can check my ports assigned in OAS via $OH/install/portlist but I'm not sure how to check the 'port pool' assigned by e-Biz.
Just wondering what I should verify or double-check configuration wise. The e-Biz app stops/starts every night for backups and has worked in conjunction with the OAS for the past week until today. I likely do not need to shutdown the app tier every night for backups but that would just mask the underlying issue.
We use a different userid for the financials configuration versus the OAS config and each env uses it's own oraInventory and directory structure etc.
I was thinking of using netstat to see what ports are in use before and after restarts and look into the 'net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000' value set in the /etc/sysctl.conf file.
    Any other suggestions?
    Edited by: user6445925 on Jan 5, 2010 12:03 PM
    Added CLARIFICATION section.

My understanding with Financials is when you setup the app tier you pick a port pool (0 corresponds to port pool starting with 8000 etc. and port pool 4 would be 8004 etc.).
So in my case when I launch http://servername:8001 I get the Oracle Rapid Install Portal. So maybe that is port pool 1in my case (I'll research that).
If I pick 'Apps Logon Links' and then E-Business Home Page it takes me to http://servername:8001/OA_HTML/AppsLocalLogin.jsp which normally works.
It only fails sometimes and that seems to be in relation to my OAS install as it was added recently and shutting it down temporarily fixed the problem.
They are both running successfully again now.

  • Synchronization of M-Series cards via RTSI and ANSI C?

    Hi!
This is my first post and I'm happy to be here. I tried to search as thoroughly as possible, but if this has been answered elsewhere, I'd be grateful for a hint/link nevertheless.
    System:
    Win 2000 Pro with NI-DAQmx (part of NI-DAQ 7)
    2x PCI-6220M, 1x PCI-6221M
    RTSI Cable
all components are registered in MAX
    Problem:
I want to synchronize the cards over the RTSI bus. I am using the ANSI C library. There's an example SharedClk10-FiniteAcq_main.c, but it is designed for PXI and uses the undocumented (at least in the C reference?) DAQmxSetTimingAttribute function. I tried to pass '/Dev1/RTSI7' as the clock source, but it did not work.
Then, after reading the C reference a bit more, it seemed as if I needed to use DAQmxExportSignal. But it gives me an error DAQmxErrorInvalidRoutingSourceTerminalName_Routing = -89120 when I try to route DAQmx_Val_20MHzTimebaseClock to '/Dev1/RTSI7'
I'd like to know what C functions I have to call in which order to enable synchronized sampling with the three M-Series cards.
    So far I do:
    DAQmxCreateTask (primary & driven)
    DAQmxCreateAIVoltageChan (p & d)
    DAQmxExportSignal (p)
DAQmxCfgDigEdgeStartTrig (d - trying to import the failed export of /Dev1/RTSI7)
    DAQmxStartTask (d & p)
    DAQmxReadAnalogF64 (p & d)
    DAQmxStopTask(p & d)
This is my first time using M-Cards or the ANSI C functions, so I might have missed something essential.
Can anyone give a hint as to what I need to do?
    Jens

First, if you haven't, you should explicitly create a RTSI cable in MAX. This can be done by right-clicking on Devices and Interfaces -> NI-DAQmx Devices and choosing Create New NI-DAQmx Device -> RTSI Cable. Then, for each device that is connected to the RTSI cable, use MAX to edit its properties and in the "RTSI Configuration" tab, specify the RTSI cable. This will allow NI-DAQmx to automatically route signals of the RTSI cable.
Now that a RTSI cable is configured, you don't need to explicitly export signals from the task. You can use the DAQmxGetMasterTimebaseSrc function to retrieve the master timebase terminal name from the primary task and the DAQmxSetMasterTimebaseSrc function to set the master timebase terminal name for the driven task. The DAQmxGetMasterTimebaseRate and DAQmxSetMasterTimebaseRate functions can be used in a similar manner. Configuring these properties will result in NI-DAQmx automatically routing the master timebase signal from the primary task to the driven task using the RTSI cable. To ensure the driven device starts at the same time, invoke the DAQmsxCfgDigEdgeStartTrip function passing a triggerSource parameter of "/ai/StartTrigger" which will result in NI-DAQmx automatically exporting the start trigger signal for the primary task over the RTSI bus and using it as a digital start trigger for the driven task.
I assume that you will also want to invoke the DAQmxCfgSampClkTiming function for each task to specify the acquisition rate and number of samples to acquire. Note that since the master timebase signal and the start trigger signal are already routed using the RTSI cable, the sample clock itself does not need to be shared between the two tasks.

  • Oracle 10gR2 and Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

    Hello.
A question to any Oracle employees who are reading this forum: can we expect Oracle 10gR2 to be supported on Mac OS X 10.4 ("Tiger")?
    Regards,
    Janus Christensen

Don't forget the role of Apple in this and the fact that there still are not that many sites using a mac for oracle production - yet. For a stable dedicated oracle production environment you don't need all the updates that bring new features to the desktop ... What you want is an installation that is good and stable. We have to wait a little longer for an update but get the first patches included in the base release. This could also be an advantage.
A famous dutch football player once said: 'Every advantage has it's dis-advantages'.
What I would like to know is what Apple is going to do with the xserve line. When/if they will be changed to intell. This will have some impact on oracle/mac development. Things could get a little easier. It could also give us an interesting upgrade path since the oracle datafiles are cpu dependent.

  • OWB 10gR2 and 11gR2 integrate which with oracle database versions

I request a clear definite reply as I need to suggest the client to upgrade their production databases. I did try searching on the oracle sites, but did not get any sure answer.
    Question:
The client has databases on 8i, 9i & 10g. Will OWB 10gR2 support these data sources?
If not, either I will have to ask clients to upgrate 8i & 9i to oracle 10g or have them upgrade the same and also have them upgrade to OWB 11gR2.
So, please confirm support of database versions for both OWB 10gR2 & OWB 11gR2.
    Thanks much!

I already had the 'Release notes' link for both 10g and 11g which you provided.
The issue is when I launch the URL, I am taken to https://support.oracle.com/CSP/ui/flash.html.
Here I've to submit and register Sun Contract Number or Oracle Support Identifier. I don't have these details.
Isn't there a simple way to get the valid information on platform-specific requirements?
I mean this should be given easily on Oracle site.
    Thanks much!
