11g Passing a backing hasmap to a servlet

Hi,
I want to generate a image in a servlet and stream this back to the jsf page where it is shown in the 11g jsf page
in jdev 10.1.3 I had a session hashmap in faces-config.xml
<managed-bean>
<managed-bean-name>ImageParametersBean</managed-bean-name>
<managed-bean-class>java.util.HashMap</managed-bean-class>
<managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
</managed-bean>
In a backing bean I got a reference to this hashmap by using this code
FacesContext fctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
return (HashMap)fctx.getApplication().createValueBinding("#{ImageParametersBean}").getValue(fctx);
I could read this hashmap in the servlet with this code
HttpSession sess = request.getSession();
HashMap parameters = (HashMap)sess.getAttribute("ImageParametersBean");
In 11g I use this code to get a reference to the hashmap
private HashMap getHashMap() {
FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
Application app = fc.getApplication();
ExpressionFactory elFactory = app.getExpressionFactory();
ELContext elContext = fc.getELContext();
ValueExpression valueExp = elFactory.createValueExpression(elContext, "#{ImageParametersBean}", Object.class);
return (HashMap) valueExp.getValue(elContext);
But when I want to get a handle to this hashmap from a servlet it is everytime null.
How can I pass the hashmap with variables to the servlet.
thanks Edwin

Hi ,
I already solved it , the url of the jsf app and servlet must be same and the url must be the full domain name
so don't use http://localhost:7101 and for the servlet http://machine.work.local :7101 else this is a new session.
thanks Edwin

  • ADF BC how to access session backing bean value in servlet

    Hi everyone,
    How do I access session backing bean value in a servlet?

    Frank, thanks for your reply.
    I'm not sure how I can incorporate this example into my situation. Let me explain more detail about my problem.
    "servlet" in my post here actually means a custom servlet I wrote for rendering an image that is stored in db as ordimage. In this servlet, I get hold of my appmodule by using Configuation.createRootApplicationModule(). By doing so (If I'm not wrong) a new database session/connection is created. What I'm going to achieve is set application context for this new session/connection in db with the data stored in a session backing bean in the view layer.
    I can pass the required data to the servlet thru url parameter, but I don't want to do it this way for the reason that the data may contains sensitive information.
    I hope I have explained myself well.

  • Passing different values to the same servlet

    Hi,
    Is there a way to pass different values to the same servlet?
    Background:
    I have a database that I query to acquire a list of customers, then I show each customer as a link, that when clicked will show details of that customer. (The customer table is dynamic so I can't create a new page for each customer)
    When using JSP what I do is
    //Do query database
    while (rst.next())
         String cust = rst.getString ("cust");
            out.write("<a href = \"cust2.jsp?cust=" + cust + " \" >" + cust + "</a> ");
    }Then on the cust2.jsp. I will use
    String str = request.getParameter ("cust");to acquire the customer to get details of.
    Is there a way to do the same using servlets?
    I could swap to JSP when creating this particular part of the project but it won't look good and it would help me learn a few things when there is another way.

    I want to know if there is a way to pass a variable from a webpage link like in my JSP example using servlets.
    Here is what I wanted to do:
    I have a webpage that contains customer names and each name has a link to the same servlet (let's say the link is famia/servb). I want servb to show detailed information about the customer my visitor clicked in the webpage.
    The logic I was thinking is to pass a variable to this servlet, then I can use that variable to know which customer should I query in my database. So that I can show the details to my users.
    Here lies my problem, I don't know how I can pass this variable, or even know which customer my visitor clicked. I can't use a new servlet for each client since the customer is in a database and if my customer base grows then I would need to create a lot more web page that does the same thing.
    The JSP example I gave is how I will be coding it if I am using JSP, but now I am using servlets. So I was wodnering if there is a way to do this using servlet. Or should I stay with using JSP for this particular logic and just call servb after the JSP page acquired the variable.
    I'm trying not to use "<original URL> + ? + <variable> = <value>" (eg: http://www.famia.net/customer?cust=famia) as the means for passing the variable. (or in the example as a means of passing variable cust with value famia)

  • Can't pass bean or request attribute from servlet to JSP

    Hi,
    I have a web app that starts with a file upload page that uses commons io fileUpload, passes the info on to a servlet. Then the servlet passes its info on to a JSP.
    I can upload the file onto the web app successfully. I also can call that uploaded file directly from the JSP (i.e. bypassing the servlet) without problem. But if I try to chain all 3 together while passing the url for the file directly as an attribute or as a bean containing file's url, I get premature end of file or can't find the property in the bean. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
    the error message:

  • Passing Runtime initialization parameters to a Servlet

    Hi all.
    Plz.let me know, how do you pass runtime initialization parameters to a Servlet. Also, when do we need this approach. Thank You.

    Global parameters that may change should be passed as parameters so that the servlet doesn't have to be recompiled to make the change.
    Here a global parameter is used to store a timeOut value. This value is written to every web page to force the page to refresh.
    <web-app>
        <servlet>
            <servlet-name>
                KioskServlet
            </servlet-name>
            <servlet-class>
                KioskServlet
            </servlet-class>
            <init-param>
                <!-- number of seconds of inactivity until timing out -->
                <!-- 300 = 5 minutes -->
                <param-name>timeoutValue</param-name>
                <param-value>300</param-value>
            </init-param>
         </servlet>
    </webapp>

    if i run an applet in a web page, eg: aspx
    is it possible for me to pass value back to the page?

    if say i'm playing a maze, which written in applet.
    and the applet is run under a web page.Lika applets usually are.
    at the time i solve the maze, it will show a

    at the beginning, i plan to write a solving data

    allow writing of file.It does. You just need to sign it.
    so i would like to pass the data value back to the
    web page, when i click the ok button on the message
    box.You didnt' answer my question. Web pages are HTML and don't accept data, so your question as it is makes no sense.
    pass back an integer value which store the solvign
    time.If you want to talk to Javascript, see my previous post about using Google to find out how. It's often-documented.

  • [cs3] Passing values back from "do javascript" to AS

    Hi folks,
    I am betting this has been discussed before but the search engine is batting a 0 today, so...
    I have an Applescript that needs to call Bridge and display a Script UI dialog. Easy enough even for a JS amateur like me and I have that part working well. However, I think I am missing something either in the JS itself or the way I am calling it from AS such that I get a value passed back into AS.
    My AS code is something like:
    set jsPath to alias "Path:To:Scripts:Folder:slugDialog.jsx"
    set slugDialogJSX to ""
    --Read the javascript
    set thisFile to open for access jsPath without write permission
    set slugDialogJSX to read thisFile
    close access thisFile
    --Do the javascript
    tell application "Bridge CS3"
        activate
        set jsResults to do javascript slugDialogJSX
    end tell
    --Process the results
    if jsResults ≠ "" then
        --would do stuff, but jsResults is always undefined!
    end if
    And loosely, my Javascript goes like:
    #target bridge
    var finalVal = metaSlugger();
    function metaSlugger() {
        // do stuff
        return someString;
    I suspect I simply need to do some final step to have the JS pass the value back, but I'm getting hung up on JS n00bness here.
    If I try "return finalVal" it complains that I am trying to return outside a function?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
    Well, as near as I can tell the "do javascript" will in no way, shape or form pass info back out to Applescript from Bridge, and I need to grab the long user name from system info there.
    To be honest, I was just trying to do a nice elegant dialog box with Bridge because Illustrator CS2 didn't know Script UI and I thought since everyone has CS3 Bridge on their machines already... But I've settled for 3 Applescript dialogs instead, so the fight is over.
    1.5 days tinkering with JS. 1.5 hours recoding in AS. Whee...

  • Can I use an OLE DB Command Task to call a parameterized stored procedure, perform some data editing and pass variables back to the SSIS for handling?

    I am using a Data Flow and an OLE DB Source to read my staged 3rd party external data. I need to do various Lookups to try and determine if I can find the external person in our database...by SSN...By Name and DOB...etc...
    Now I need to do some more data verification based on the Lookup that is successful. Can I do those data edits against our SQL server application database by utilizing an OLE DB Command? Using a Stored Procedure or can I sue straight SQL to perform my edit
    against every staging row by using a parameter driven query? I'm thinking a Stored Procedure is the way to go here since I have multiple edits against the database. Can I pass back the result of those edits via a variable and then continue my SSIS Data Flow
    by analyzing the result of my Stored Procedure? And how would I do that.
    I am new to the SSIS game here so please be kind and as explicit as possible. If you know of any good web sites that walk through how to perform SQL server database edits against external data in SSIS or even a YouTube, please let me know.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for that...but can I do multiple edits in my Stored Procedure Vaibhav and pass back something that I can then utilize in my SSIS? For example...
    One and Only one Member Span...so I'd be doing a SELECT COUNT(*) based on my match criteria or handle the count accordingly in my Stored Procedure and passing something back via the OLE DB Command and handling it appropriately in SSIS
    Are there "Diabetes" claims...again probably by analyzing a SELECT COUNT(*)
    Am I expecting too much from the SSIS...should I be doing all of this in a Stored Procedure? I was hoping to use the SSIS GUI for everything but maybe that's just not possible. Rather use the Stored Procedure to analyze my stged data, edit accordingly, do
    data stores accordingly...especially the data anomalies...and then use the SSIS to control navigation
    Your thoughts........
    Could you maybe clarify the difference between an OLE DB Command on the Data Flow and the Execute SQL Task on the Control Flow...
    You can get return values from oledb comand if you want to pipeline.
    see this link for more details
    http://josef-richberg.squarespace.com/journal/2011/6/30/ssis-oledb-command-and-procedure-output-params.html
    The procedure should have an output parameter defined for that
    I belive if you've flexibility of using stored procedure you may be better off doing this in execute sql task in control flow. Calling sp in data flow will cause it to execute sp once for each row in dataset whereas in controlflow it will go for set based
    processing

  • Passing vectors into JSP from Servlet and passing data back to Servlet

    I have been building an MVC application.
    It has a controller which instantiates classes and evokes methods to
    populate vectors. These vectors are then passed into a JSP. This part of the application works fine.
    What I am having trouble with is a new JSP I have designed; this will
    display the data that is actioned by the FORM action. This is actioned
    based on the Search criteria entered by the user. Based on this a further vector is populated and brought back to the JSP as a vector
    and this is rendered via the TABLE tag. Again this works fine.
    Against each of the rows displayed, I have a print checkbox which can be checked by the user. On checking the records they want to print, they should then hint a Print button which should go back to the Servlet and print the data. THIS IS WHERE I HAVE THE PROBLEM. On going
    back to the servlet the checkbox values are not displayed, rather
    the values that initially populate the JSP. How do I get these new values back into the vector and hence accessible from the Servlet.
    Any help with be very much appreciated.
    Chris

    Thanks for this.
    Just to clarify I am not using Struts.
    What I am having difficulties with is the fact that:
    I can't get the checked values back to the Servlet - they keep the values they have in the bean - so as part of instantiating the bean class I set the value of the item to 'off'. The user will then check
    the checkbox which should presumbably set the value to 'on'. This isn't happening because the setter method of the bean is not evoked again
    because I don't come into this JSP again - the Servlet has finished here
    and now needs to print the records. It can't do this because as
    far as it is concerned nothing has changed since it last passed through
    the vector to the JSP.
    Even when I do the following:
    Enumeration paramNames = request.getParameterNames();
    String param = null;
    while (paramNames.hasMoreElements())
    param=(String)paramNames.nextElement();
    System.out.println("parameter " + param + " is " +
    request.getParameter(param));
    what comes back is the valus of 'off' as opposed to 'on'.
    The other thing is that 'request.getParameterNames()' only works
    with the first record in the vector, i.e. it doesn't fetch any other
    records that are rendered in the <TABLE> tag.
    In desperation is there anybody out there who can help me.
    Thanks
    Chris
    I am going to assume you are using a MVC framework
    like Struts or very similar (I am assuming that from
    the language you are using).
    When the servlet passes the vector back to the JSP
    page and you render the HTML that is passed back the
    client your Vector is gone. The Vector is not
    available at the HTML level that is being viewed at
    the browser.
    When the user selects the checkboxes and submits the
    page (by clicking the print button) the controller
    servlet (called ActionServlet in Struts, yours maybe
    called something else) forwards the request to the
    appropriate JavaBean and Servlet to process the
    request. Either the JavaBean has to recreate the
    Vector (not recommended) or the processing Servlet can
    (better). You can do this by recreating the Vector
    from scratch for the HttpRequest parameters or, at the
    time of the initial request, saving Vector to a
    session and then updating with the data you get back
    from the client (again from the HttpRequest
    parameters).
    Either way you have to work with
    HttpRequest.getParameter().

  • How to link 2 queries in 11g (passing the result of 1 query to another)?

    Hi,
    I am using 11g and I have 2 queries q1,q2. the first query returns a column I need to use in q2 to get my data.
    q1:
    select name, dept
    from x
    where dept = :p_y
    q2:
    select u, b
    from y
    where name = :*name* (from q1)
    when I tried to do that BIP created a bind parameter (name). when I ran get xml, no data came out of q2!
    my question is how can I pass a column from 1 query to another?
    I hope this is clear
    Thanks,

    Thanks for your reply. I am sorry if I wasn't clear, may be this will help
    I am converting oracle report 6i into BI publisher.
    in my report (invoice), I am going to pass only one parameter (*p_invoice_no*)
    Q1:
    select address_id, vendor_id, bill_date, x, y,z
    from t1
    where invoice_no = :p_invoice_no
    now I need to display the payer address info. the address come from 2 different tables based on address_id and vendor_id
    Q2:
    SELECT NAME,
    ADDRESS1,
    ADDRESS2,
    CITY,
    STATE,
    ZIP,
    FROM address_1
    WHERE address_id = decode(*:vendor_id*, '28',*:address_id*, NULL)
    union
    SELECT VENDOR name,
    VENDOR_ADDRESS1 address1,
    VENDOR_ADDRESS2 address2,
    CITY,
    STATE,
    ZIP ,
    FROM address_2
    WHERE vendor_id = :*vendor_id*
    and vendor_id <> '28'
    as you can see from Q2, the address depends on address_id, vendor_id from Q1. it will be so much easier
    if I could just do that instead of doing nested statements. you would think with 11g this should be
    easily achievable. am I wrong ?
    I hope this helps
    Thanks again,

  • How can i pass more than 1 param to servlet to show blob image

    Hi
    my servlet expects 2 param to SELECt an image from a blob column
    public class ImageBlobServlet extends HttpServlet {
    private static final String CONTENT_TYPE = "text/html; charset=windows-1252";
    public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
    super.init(config);
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,
    HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException,
    IOException {
    response.setContentType(CONTENT_TYPE);
    String ImageId = request.getParameter("id");
    String TipImg = request.getParameter("tip");
    OutputStream os = response.getOutputStream();
    Connection conn = null;
    try {
    Context ctx;
    ctx = new InitialContext();
    DataSource ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("java:/comp/env/jdbc/rhDS");
    conn = ds.getConnection();
    PreparedStatement statement = conn.prepareStatement("select FIT from " +
    "RHH_FOTOS IMG " +
    "where IMG.IDASSO = ? and IMG.TIM_COA = ?");
    statement.setInt(1, new Integer(ImageId));
    statement.setString(2, TipImg);
    To display the image i tried to use:
    <af:image id="ot1"
    *source="/imageblobservlet?id=#{bindings.Con.inputValue}?tip=#{"EMP"}"*
    shortDesc="Foto"/>
    but i receive all content in the get of first param.
    String ImageId = request.getParameter("id");
    How can i pass one more then 1 param in EL.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
    seems to me you're using wrong separator for the second param into your URL:
    <af:image id="ot1" source="/imageblobservlet?id=#{bindings.Con.inputValue}
    tip=#{"EMP"}" shortDesc="Foto"/>
    I think it should be:
    <af:image id="ot1" source="/imageblobservlet?id=#{bindings.Con.inputValue}
    tip=#{"EMP"}" shortDesc="Foto"/>

  • Problem in passing vector from an applet to servlet

    Hi,
    I m facing problem in reading an object in the servlet (that i send from an applet). I have used BufferedInputStream ... The servlet reads the object but it takes about 30 seconds to do this ... If i don't use BufferedInputStream, it gives an "error reading inputstream header" ... if i use it, it take 30 seconds ... i m using netscape ent. server 4.0 ...
    Servlet code is as follows :
    try {
    InputStream in = req.getInputStream();
    inputFromApplet = new ObjectInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(in));
    saveVector = (Vector)inputFromApplet.readObject();
    I don't understand why it takes so long ... is there any other way ? Please help on this ... you may email me on [email protected]
    Thanks in advance..

    When you send a Vector through a stream, it must not only pass the Vector itself, but all the objects that the Vector refers to, all the objects that those objects refer to, and so on. Combine all this data with a slow internet connection, and passing what may seem like a small Vector could take minutes or hours.
    Are you sure you're passing a very small amount of data over a fast connection?

  • How to pass multiple parameters from jsp to servlet using iframe

    function updGrade(grd,actDetID,sID)
    updateFrame.location="/clucas/updateServ?s_id="+sID.value+" &act_ID="+actDetID.value+" &grade="+grd.value+";
    hi, i have this javascript on my jsp and try to send those three params to updateServ servlet inorder to update a grade value to database, but for some reasons it does not work. It is only work when I pass one parameter only.
    Can anybody help me with this please?
    thanks

    You have spaces before the & signs. They can't be there:
    function updGrade(grd,actDetID,sID)
      updateFrame.location="/clucas/updateServ?s_id="+sID.value+
                                           "&act_ID="+actDetID.value+
                                            "&grade="+grd.value;
    }

  • How to pass a Connection variable from a servlet to a class?

    Good day!
    I have a class named ExecQuery for executing an sql query. This class accepts an sql statement and a Connection variable as its parameters. It has a method to return the resultset. Then, I also have a servlet that establishes the connection in the init method and instantiates the ExecQuery. The problem is that the Connection variable becomes null in the ExecQuery class that receives it. Why is this so? Please let me know why the Connection variable becomes null and the solution for this.
    Your help would be very much appreciated. Thanks so much.

    Hi,
    As such it cant become null. Make sure null value doesnt get passed to ExecQuery class.
    Anyway, better idea would be getting Connection in ExecQeury class rather that Servlet.
