1841 - 3G HWIC problem

Using Cisco 1841 router with HWIC 3G Module, Now I can ping any public IP address from the router, but cant browse the internet from PC.. through Ethernet or Dor11-WiFi.
How can I get DNS address automatically, or how can can I check if its already assigned to the router!! It looks like I have only IP address in the router.... Please look at attached configuration file and update if you have any idea.

Are you using your ISP DNS server or just any public DNS server? If you didn't use your ISP DNS server, try to use them. Using your own ISP DNS server should provide you with faster DNS response rather than just any public DNS server.
To find out your ISP DNS server (and other stuff), you can issue the following command on your router
show dhcp server
Make sure you are using the correct version of Cisco IOS® Software. The 3G WWAN HWIC is supported on Cisco IOS Software Release 12.4(15)T and later.

  • 1841 router IOS problem

I need help getting the IOS on a compact flash that somehow got erased so now I have to use the second 1841 in my lab to boot up the IOS on the first one. I also have IOS 15.4 that I want to put on both routers. I know I am supposed to be able to tftp the IOS from my laptop to the compact flash of the routers but I need help setting it all up correctly. I have several tftp servers I downloaded free including pumpkin and jounin tftp servers. I just need some direction. I have tried looking for articles and docs to read in order to configure both the routers and the tftp server with the proper configuration in order to transfer the new IOS file from my laptop to my router.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jamie

And if I remember right, only CF-cards up to 1GB will work.
All my 2800 routers are loaded with 2 Gb CF.
There have been some people who were able to successfully use 4 Gb and 8 Gb CF just fine.
Alternatively, you can use the USB ports to boot the IOS.  Of course, you have to make sure the bootstrap of your router has been upgraded to the latest bootstrap code/version.

  • CISCO 1841 with SHDSL Problem?

    Hello,
I´am new in cisco WIC configuration. I have a CISCO 1841 with a interface: 1SHDSL v3 and i want to connect to my ISP over a PPoE encapsulation.
I just make the new interface connection in SDM, but the synchronism with the ISP not work. The ISP tell me that VPI/VCI is 0.35 and the annex is the A.
I live in the Europe, but i think that the annex A is for POTS lines and Annex B for ISDN, right?? My line is ADSL Analog.
    My startup-configuration is that:

  • Cisco 1921/1841 as a terminal server

    Hi,
    we need a terminal server.
I researched a little bit on cisco.com and found out that there are several options, and because of that I am not sure what to buy.
I write down the routers, card models and cables and you guys try to explain what the differences are.
    - 1921 ISR2
    - HWIC-8A  8-Port Async HWIC     x2
    - CAB-OCTAL-ASYNC  8 Lead Octal Cable (68 pin to 8 Male RJ-45s)    x2
    - 1841 ISR
    - HWIC-8A  8-Port Async HWIC     x2
    - CAB-HD8-ASYNC   High Density 8-port EIA-232 Async Cable            x2
    I found this card too:
    HWIC-8A/S-232    8-Port Async/Sync Serial HWIC, EIA-232
and this one costs double the price of the HWIC-8A  8-Port Async HWIC but I am not sure if this is for a terminal server.
Is this option enough to manage 16 devices vie the console?
    - 1921 ISR2
    - HWIC-8A  8-Port Async HWIC     x2
    - CAB-OCTAL-ASYNC  8 Lead Octal Cable (68 pin to 8 Male RJ-45s)    x2

    Hi,
This is my first post and I just stumbled upon your question.
The CAB-OCTAL-ASYNC has a 60-pin connector that will not work with HWIC-8A or HWIC-16A.
The HWIC-8A is compatible with (amongst others) your 1841 ISR and 1921 ISR2.
The CAB-HD8-ASYNC will work with HWIC-8A (and if you have them HWIC-16A). Each CAB-HD8-ASYNC can support up to 8 serial interfaces. So to answer your questioh about the a workable hardware list, one options is as follows:
    - 1921 ISR2
    - HWIC-8A  8-Port Async HWIC     x2
    - CAB-HD8-ASYNC    x2
    Hope this helps.

  • CISCO WIP310 unable to connect to any wireless network

    Hi all,
I just purchased a brand new WIP310 phone. I followed User Guide instructions on how to join the phone to a wireless network but I always get a "failure connecting to the router" message. I do have a CISCO 1841 with HWIC-AP-G-E card and I created an open SSID for the phone. The SSID is actually not broadcasted, but I get the same failure message from the phone even when the SSID is broadcasted. The SSID is completely open, no security at all. I tried switching the Dot11Radio Interface to any possible radio channel, from 1 to 13. Again same result. The phone is running firmware 5.0.8 and when I try to upgrade it, I get a success message from the gui, but rebooting the phone always shows the same old firmware. Any idea? I even tried several Access Point with the same bad result. Thanks

    Hi Marco,
actually it took me quite a long time to understand what the problem was. I found that on my CISCO AP i had to put "payload-encapsulation dot1h" on the radio interface to get the WIP310 communicate with the AP.
By the way It seems to me that the phone is a little buggy from the wireless point of view. Sometimes i have to try several times before getting the phone connected to the AP. Once the phone gets connected it's pretty stable, but getting it connected it's a nightmare :-)
Try with the above ption if you have a Cisco AP. Also try different channels on the AP...it might help
    Hope this will help you
    regards
    Nicola

  • Serial interfaces, ip vrf forwarding, and PBR with set vrf

I am doing some work with VRF-lite but I am having some trouble with serial interfaces. I have a PE router with a serial interface where I want to take incoming traffic and using policy-based routing send the traffic to the appropriate VRF. I want to assign the serial interface itself to be in one of those VRFs, not the global routing table. Eventually, I also want to overlap the VPNs/VRFs to send traffic going out the serial interface through the VRF assigned to the serial interface. Initially, it looks something like this:
    ip vrf VRF1
    rd 65000:3
    route-target export 65000:3
    ip vrf VRF2
    rd 65000:18
    route-target import 65000:3
    ip route vrf VRF1 10.90.51.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.11.18
    interface Serial0/0/0
    ip vrf forwarding VRF1
    ip address 192.168.11.17 255.255.255.252
    router bgp 65000
    no synchronization
    bgp log-neighbor-changes
    no auto-summary
    address-family ipv4 vrf VRF1
    redistribute static
    no auto-summary
    no synchronization
    exit-address-family
    ip access-list extended remote-source
    permit ip 10.90.0.0 0.0.255.255 any
    route-map SERIAL-INCOMING permit 100
    match ip address remote-source
    set vrf VRF2
But if I try to turn on the policy based routing at the serial interface, I get an error:
    Router(conf)#interface Serial0/0/0
    Router(config-if)#ip policy route-map SERIAL-INCOMING
% Can not apply route-map SERIAL-INCOMING to this interface
% Either remove 'set vrf' from route-map or unconfigure 'ip vrf forward'
I can sort of get around the problem by using an "ip vrf receive" instead of "ip vrf forward", but unfortunately, that leaves my Serial interface in the global table which isn't what I wanted.
What troubles me is that I can do this without any problems on an Ethernet interface. Are there any known issues with "ip vrf forward" and using PBR and "set vrf" on Serial interfaces, or have I configured something wrong?
If I stick with the "ip vrf receive", how can I force the physical Serial interface into the appropriate VRF?
    Thanks.

    Upon further investigation....
The serial interface issue was a red herring. It just so happens that every other time I've done this it has been on a flavor of 12.2x on a 6500/7600 where this feature is supported. The only systems I have with Serial interfaces are 1841s.
The problem with the 1841 is that most of the code revisions out there do not support this feature. It was only added to the regular code train with the recent release of 12.2(24)T. I tested with 12.2(24)T1 and you are now able to use "ip vrf forwarding" on all interfaces along with a PBR route-map that uses the "set vrf" option.
Thanks, Laurent, for pointing me towards the TAC on this.

  • Port Modes

Hi everyone, I am new to the Linksys range of Switches (normally a Cisco person but it was practical in this instance to get a linksys SFE2000)
Long story short, what is the difference between port setup  "General" and "Access" in respect to VLAN. I cannot set the port to access as the default 100 is already tagged and it won't let me untag (option for vlan 100 is all greyed out).
I can get some connectivity to work if I set to General but that's not what I want.
I want to setup port 1-6 on VLAN 1 attached to Interface 0/0/0 on a Cisco 1841 and port 7-24 as VLAN 2 attached to Interface 0/0; Assumption is that I can ping from vlan 1 to vlan 2 via the 1841 but the problem is that it will only work if I use "General" port with VLAN ID of 1 for VLAN 1 and "Trunk" port for VLAN ID 2.
    Any ideas?

trunk mode and access mode are the same as on the cisco.
A port in access mode can only be member of a single VLAN and operates fully untagged.
Trunk mode means all VLANs are transferred 802.1Q tagged except the management VLAN 1.
General mode does not put any constraints on tagged or untagged or membership. You can join any VLAN you want to a general mode port. You can set it untagged or tagged as you wish. You have to define the PVID for untagged frames sent into this port.
What did you set as management VLAN on the switch?
I don't know the SFE2000 but usually you have to options to assign VLANs to ports: Port to VLAN or VLAN to port. If one way does not work, maybe the other way works. As long as there is still a tagged member on the port you cannot put it into access mode. Sometimes the web interface has its flaws and you must play around a little to find out how to change it, e.g. maybe add another VLAN untagged and then take off the tagged one or similar.

  • AP-G-A HWIC not recognized in my 1841

I am having problems with my 1841 router recognizing my HWIC-AP-G-A wireles card. I am running the following IOS: c1841-advsecurityk9-mz.124-3g.bin. I have tried placing it in slot0 and slot1. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi Shawn,
Here is a clip from Ben's (from Cisco) excellent post (he knows ALOT more about this than I ever will :)
The HWIC-AP is supported with the 1841, but you must be running a 12.4T IOS image (in addition to the correct feature set). I'd suggest 12.4(11)T with Adv. Security or Adv. IP Services Feature Set. Make sure you meet the minimum memory requirements as well.
Your next best option would be 12.4(9)T2 with either Adv. Security or Adv. IP Services Feature Set."
Hope this helps! This should definitely work.

I still believe that the best thing to do is to open a case with TAC about this problem. But if you do not want to open a case for some reason then upgrading the IOS would be a reasonable thing to do and would probably resolve the problem. I have been running 12.3(11)T8 on 1841s with reasonably good success.

  • 1841 SEC K9 with HWIC-2FE

    Hi!
Is it possible to use the HWIC-2FE module into the 1841 SEC/K9 bundle? Using the online Cisco Dynamic config tool, HWIC-2FE is not listed as an option when you select the 1841. Does it mean that this configuration won't work? Thanks very much for your help!

Unfortunately the 1841 does not support the HWIC-2FE module. It only supports the HWIC-1FE module. See attached link for more details -

and the router freezes up. I have enabled diagnostic mode and gotten a bunch of output. Help me please

    Hi There
I have seen this happen once or twice and the problem was resolved by re-seating the Flash RAm modules.
I am not saying that this is the only cause and solution. However it si worth a try as it has worked for me in the past.
If this does not work I would open a call with the Cisco TAC.
    Best Regards,

  • 1841 router and HWIC-AP

okay got a question. I am trying to install and use a AP on a 1841 series router, it is HWIC capable, but the interface shows when you show int, but it does not show under show run, nor can you find it and access it through global config, well not that I have found unless it shows as a different interface. I have one serial slot already s0/0/0 so this interface is on slot one. Any help or idea's would be appreciated!

    Hi Kenneth,
    Have a look at this excellent post from Ben @ Cisco (he indicates that you must be running 12.4T at a minimum);

  • 1841 VPN Problem

    Hi All
I've just remoted into an 1841 router to set up a VPN but found to my surprise no commands available to set it up, ie. crypto isakmo policy n and the following  subsequent commands are not available. Checking the flash there seems to be all the files I presumed would enable me to create the tunnel.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You would need the advance security feature set for VPN configuration.
At the moment, you are running "broadband" feature set only.
