1st Website a Success Thanks to these Discussions

I want to thank all of you for helping me with my first website!! I bet I've read 1000's of these posts and have learned more than I learned through my One-to-One's at the Apple store and the iWeb tutorials.
If you're new here, Bookmark the links you see from Old Toad, Roddy, Tom Gewecke, and all the top users in the Forum. These people really know what they're doing and are a great help! And you'll find yourself going to their websites over and over!
Thank you Old Toad, Roddy and Tom. You didn't know it, but you were a huge help.
Here's the website (4 months in the making) made for a friend's small business. Feel free to comment!

  • How Do I Get These Discussion Updates Stopped!!??

I check NO in my email updates for every question, but they keep coming!!! My gmail account is
overloaded with these discussion updates. Make them stop!!! I've adjusted my email
preferences a million times! WHAT THE ****????!!!!
I don't know where else to ask this.
Does anyone have a clue on how to get this fixed?

Well certainly it has nothing to do with the iPhone hardware. How about in the Using Apple Support Communities Section?
Anyway, click on your profile, then under ACTIONS select Edit Preferences, then Email Notification Preferences.

  • Does Apple review these discussions?

I'm new to this discussion group so my question may be redundant.  In the short time I've been "listening", I've enjoyed the give and take and often good input that I read here.  BUT I do have this one question.  I read where other participants say they have notified Apple;  Doesn't Apple participate in these discussions?  How do you notify them?
TNX! (thats old fashion for "thanks"... not up with twitter / tweet language either and hope I didn't make a faux pax).

  • Tutorial Building 1st Website, pt 1

In the Tutorial Building 1st Website, pt 1, in Fig. 12, there is a guide for the bottom of the browser. That's missing in my ver. of the exercise. How should I correct this?

Trying to insert a screen shot. Selected Copy from the Muse edit menu, but when I select the camera icon, unable to Paste screen shot in the dialog box "Insert". I could send a .tiff or a .pdf...
I think I should get Enabling the guides to set page regions --correctly. It seems important.
Again, thanks to the support staff for the help.

Hi, I'm designing my 1st website and I started it in  photoshop cs5.5. I know that it's bad practice to build with images, I learned this too late. I imported my site into Dreamweaver cs5.5 and uploaded it to my server. The problem I'm having is that I want to apply a jquery drop down menu bar but whenever I try, I get white gaps within my page. The best way to do it is go back to PS and place the navigation area in the design, i would make it 100% of the width and then re-slice the design making sure one single slice is the whole of this navigation area.
That would be the best way to do it while still using a table layout which in and of itself is not recommended, in large part  for this very reason.
Every time you want to make a small change to the layout of your site, it will require re-slicing and re-generating code out of PS. You would be much better off taking the time to understand css layouts. Here is a good place to start to get the basics of css: http://www.w3schools.com/css

  • Where's the search facility on these discussions?

Am I going mad? I'm sure these discussions have had a search facility... but I'm logged in and can't find it??

  • WHY do these discussions not

Why do these discussions not show # of views and replies anymore? I mean, why remove that info from the page?
And why make the discussions overall less functional and rather icky..?
    WHY WHY WHY?

I can't even EDIT my question which i just posted above.
And the discussions are MUCH slower now on my computer. Very difficult to use. (Is this by design perhaps..?)
And when I try to "Reply"--i get an error message in a pink box saying
"An error occurred while trying to submit your post. Please try again."
That would be an error by the Apple programmers, i guess. At least i can go to the "advanced editor" (a small, grey link in the corner) and submit the reply, but that in itself is absurd. And the "Advanced" editor forces a text box width of nearly 1024, meaning it MUST go off my screen on one side. Pathetic. This is stuff that programmers figured out how to avoid in the 1970s. Hello, Apple.

  • I cannot open hotmail. I am also having similar problems with facebook. What can I do to access these websites again? Thank you.

When I go to www.hotmail.com the address tab seems to think it's on the log-in page, but the page itself is blank.
With facebook I can log-in, but get only text on the page that opens.
I had this problem before and it was resolved by clearing the cache and deleting all cookies. I have cleared my cache, browsing history, and cookies. I have also followed all eight steps on the Basic Troubleshooting page, all to no avail.
I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you.

I have already done all this as part of 'Basic Troubleshooting' (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_3-update-your-plugins)
The "Basic Troubleshooting' steps I have followed are:
    1. Restart your computer
    2. Clear your cookies and cache
    3. Update your plugins
    4. Restart Firefox in Safe Mode
    5. Troubleshoot your plugins
    6. Reset your Firefox settings
    7. Reinstall Firefox
    8. Make a new profile
and I still can't access hotmail!

  • IPhone friendly version of these discussion forums?

    Hello Apple,
As for as I can tell, there is no iPhone or mobile phone friendly version of these Apple Discussions web site. Yes, the iPhone allows for an almost (minus Flash) full web experience unlike most other mobile phones. However, it sure would be nice if there was a mobile friendly version of this site. It would make it much easier to view the posts.
Is there already a mobile version of this site? If so, please let me know.
    Thanks!
    Steven

I don't believe that Jive Software, maker of the software that runs these forums, has any support for mobile devices as of yet. They alluded in their forums to some sort of future iPhone support back in August but I can't find anything further on the situation. Unless and until Jive comes out with support for mobile devices like the iPhone, there's nothing Apple can do.
    Regards.

  • How do I get refund for App not performing well? Report problem link takes me to these discussion boards

I downloaded this App for ringtones (Ringtones 500.000) , purchased a full version of it, so I should be able to download unlimited number of ringtones. The problem is, it won't let me download any ringtones after 10, which is how free version of this App performs.
I have contacted developers, but they keep sending the instruction book to me with step-by-step inforamtion, which is out of date itself, but that is not a problem, I think in my case.
When I try to report a problem to Apple , using hte link on my receipt, it just takes me to a page with discussion boards and FAQ.
I would like to get $1.99 back instead of troubleshoot this any longer, because it seems App help support people are not understanding the problem.
I did try re-loading the App -didn't help either.
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Apple's policy on sales of digital content is that all sales are final. If however you wish to appeal to Apple, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History on your computer.
Currently, if your purchase happens to be your most recent purchase you will not be redirected to the report form, in this case use the report a problem option from the invoice that was emailed to you.

  • Help I have no ideal how to use these discussion groups

I know very little about computers I do not know if I have a software problem, I do not know where to go with my problem, this is so complicated. I hope I do not get kicked out. But I think it would be nice if you had a forum for new users, or maybe I'm the only one who doesn't know where to go but there is so many which one should I go to. My Imac is so slow even when I first turn it on. If it was in a race with a turtle I think the turtle would win. I only had it for 2 months, it has been in the shop once already. Please help me or direct me to the right place.

    Hello,
First, since you are new to these forums, go here and read the Apple Discussions Terms of Use.
    http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa
You're doing just fine. Question for you. In a prior post of yours here; http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9287265#9287265 in your profile, you indicated you are running Norton. Norton is anti-virus software. Since you are posting because, *"My Imac is so slow even when I first turn it on"* it's because of the Norton software. You need to delete it from your Mac.
There are no known Mac viruses. If you feel better having anti-virus software on your iMac, then get ClamXav It's free and won't slow your Macs down.
This link will get you started with learning the Mac OS X. Mac 101 - Get Started with a Mac

  • Creating a keychain password item to handle these discussions pages' login

    how?
I thought i did it right.. it is real straight forward, so i am a little confused.
i used the URL from the "login" link at the right side from the main discussions page, used my username and entered my password.
it does not appear to work.
    help? anyone doing this?
    Beavis2084

    Hi VC,
    Thanks for reply.
Already i tried clearing cache, it is working fine for all other items but not clearing the cache of LOGINNAME and PASSWORD item.
Also written separate process for clearing the cache of LOGINNAME and PASSWORD item but no luck.
When you select the save password prompted by the browser in CHROME , that time it is not clearing the cache of USERNAME and PASSWORD item. but same thing working fine in MOZILLA.
When i am changing the PASSWORD item to textfield that time cache is getting cleared for LOGINNAME and PASSWORD item.
so, i found issue with the PASSWORD item (when we are going with save password option promted by browser - Chrome)
so,please suggest me how to handle the PASSWORD item .
    Thanks and Regards,
    Jitendra

  • Dumb question about searching these discussion boards

I used to be able to search these boards, but now I can't find where to do this. I tried using the top right corner search box, but that searches the Apple site for everything except discussions.
Am I blind, mad or has something changed?
Judging by my wife's comments, the first seems most likely.
Grateful for anyone that can point me in the right direction, and give me a white stick.

In the mean time you can use google with "site:discussions.apple.com" as part of the search query.

  • What is the correct terminalogy for these discussions?

Is "Edit a discussion" the correct terminalogy?
I've never got the termalogy with these new discussions.
    I'm familiar with:
    forums
    threads
    posts
    post
How does the current terminalogy relate to the above terms?
What do you call a post now?
I noticed.  You start a thread by:
If you want to change your initial post, you click on this link. Seems mislabled. You not editing a thread but a post.

This was Apple Discussions before it became Apple Support Communities.
Apple Discussions was a conglomerate of various communities, whose subset were forums, and those were grouped into various threads of several posts a piece.
Under the Apple Support Communities the arrangement got murkier.
Now it is Community (think the Notebooks), followed by subCommunities (MacBook Pro), followed by user selectable categories (Using MacBook Pro), which may not be selected at all when posting.  As such you are going to have some non-categorized threads which are invisible if you select a Category, while other threads clearly are part of a category.   And of course threads constitute a multitude of posts. And each thread can be viewed in a tree or a flat mode
If you start at http://discussions.apple.com/ you'll be able to see the hierarchy I talking about.    Each thread or community can be viewed threaded, or flat, or RSS depending on your user preferences.
Yes, this can be kind of confusing, but the that's how it is set up.   At least now, you can post a new topic while viewing a thread, where before you couldn't.   It still becomes difficult when posting "ask a question" form a knowledgebase link, or navigating from another internet search engine, or the Support pages of Apple to determine where your post might end up.   Worse yet, sometimes when you quit your web browser you are left in the same thread you were before, and somtimes you are totally logged out having to begin again anew depending on whether you use your own machine, or a machine whose security is set differently, or an iOS device.   I try to start at the first link whenever I log in, as long as I don't see something in my e-mail I want to respond to.  Others may have other ways of navigating it.   This another reason I encourage people to start their own thread.  Because if they just post at the end of a thread, I may lose interest in a thread, and not follow it anymore, and just look for threads with no replies.
