2.1 EA1 - Compile buttons

Why the two Compile and Compile for debug buttons are now hidden in a drop-down selection? And why if I click directly on that object the default behavior is Compile for debug (at least that's what I infer judging by the icon that is shown on the package)?
Can we have the two separate buttons back? Or at least can I customize the default action of the drop-down?
Regards.
Alessandro

In RDBMS 10g PLSQL_DEBUG session setting is obsolete. It is PLSQL_OPTIMIZE_LEVEL (set in PLSQL preferences) that defines if your compilation unit has debug info or not. I assume you might want aggressive optimization for production system, and not optimized version (which allows debugging) for you development. I can hardly imagine why user might want half of the modules compiled with debug info, and the other half without them. This is consistent with other languages and IDEs (Eclipse) where the whole project has debug info or not.

  • Compile PL/SQL with JDEV 11g TP4 - Compile button missing ?

    Hi
    I have been working through the database development with Jdeveloper tutorial:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/11/db_dev/obe_%20databasedevmt.htm
    this, as name suggests, discusses db development with jdev 11g TP4.
    However I seem to have an issue with the section named 'Creating and Debugging PL/SQL Objects in the Database'.
    In section 9 of 'creating a pl/sql package' the tutorial talks about a compile for debug button on the code editor. This essentially compiles the package against the DB, however in my Jdev, this button is does not exist. Is this just because this is only a tech preview version or is there some further config I need to do?
    Versions are..
    OS: Vista SP1
    JDEV: 11.1.1.0.0

  • Package body greater than 2160 bytes does not compile in Object Browser

    Hi there,
    I initially created a package in Apex 2.1.0.0.39 using the Object Browser and it compiled OK. The message in the box above the source code says "PL/SQL code successfully compiled (17:51:08)". I then added more code and eventually when I clicked the "Compile" button" the message to say successfull compilation or any error message was not displayed. The box above the source code remains blank. After much trial and error I found that by adding just one more letter to the end of a comment that it would not compile, but by removing the letter then it would compile most of the time. I downloaded the package and found that the size of the download .PLB file was 2160 bytes. Editing the PLB file using a text editor to increase the size and executing it in SQL*PLUS does work.
    Is this a fundamental limit on the size of packages that can be compiled using the Object Browser, or is there an Apex configuration parameter that can be modified to allow larger packages? If this is a limit then why isn't an informational message displayed? Or is this in fact an installation issue or an issues with Apex Object Browser?

    TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    I installed this version back at the beginning of the year for training purposes and have not made any conifiguration changes that I am aware of, or installed any further upgrades/software since.
    All help gratefully received by this "definitely a nubie".

    John,
    If you are using, as you said, Application Express version 2.1.0.0.39, be aware that this is a very old (and not a supported) version. If you have trouble with the latest version (currently 3.2), feel free to report them here.

  • Plsql_optimize_level = 3 and native compilation in SQL Developer?

    SQL Developer: Version 3.1.06 (Build MAIN-06.82)
    Oracle: 11gR2
    OS: Ubuntu 10.10
    Whenever I compile a PL/SQL unit in SQL Developer (using 'Compile' button) it is compiled with the following settings:
    PLSQL_OPTIMIZE_LEVEL = 2
    PLSQL_CODE_TYPE = 'INTERPRETED'
    However, if I issue the following commands in an SQL Worksheet:
    ALTER SESSION SET plsql_optimize_level = 3;
    ALTER PACKAGE PACKAGE_NAME COMPILE PLSQL_CODE_TYPE = NATIVE;
    the query SELECT PLSQL_OPTIMIZE_LEVEL, PLSQL_CODE_TYPE FROM ALL_PLSQL_OBJECT_SETTINGS WHERE NAME = 'PACKAGE_NAME'; resullts in
    PLSQL_OPTIMIZE_LEVEL     PLSQL_CODE_TYPE
    3     NATIVE
    3     NATIVE
    Is it possible to make SQL Developer to use these settings by default?
    P.S. It seems that Tools > Preferences > Database > PL/SQL Compiler menu section is missing the options I need (Optimization level drop-down menu have numbers 0-2, but not 3). Are there any plans to support these features in the future releases?
    Edited by: Ravshan Abbasov on Feb 6, 2012 6:28 AM

    Hi Ravshan,
    I thought a workaround would be to create a sql script like the following:
    alter session set plsql_code_type=native;
    alter session set plsql_optimize_level=3;  then point to it in the setting for Tools|Preferences|Database|Filename for connection startup script. That doesn't work however, as the other preference setting for plsql_optimize_level overrides the session value of 3 during compilation from the UI.
    According to Oracle documentation, level 3 was added for Oracle 11g. Prior to that, the same effect could be achieved by level 2 in conjunction with the INLINE pragma in the PL/SQL code.
    You might want to make a feature request for this on the SQL Developer Exchange so the community can vote and comment.

    And, of course, Compile for Debug does not work with the 'native' setting.

  • Package body does not compile in Object Browser

    Hi there,
    I am trying to compile a package body using the Apex Object Browser. However, when I click the "Compile" button no message is displayed in the box above the package body code. I reduced the amount of code by removing comments and extra carriage returns and it then compiled ie the message "PL/SQL code successfully compiled (18:35:55) " was displayed. After trial and error I found that by adding just one character to the end of a comment line would cause this problem and by removing it the problem would dis-appear.
    I raised this issue back on 19th June, and sspadafo responded by suggesting that I upgrade from Apex 2.1 to Apex 3.2. (Thanks by the way). This I have now done but the problem is still occurring. Is there some parameter that I have to increase in order to compile packages greater than a couple of kilobytes in size?
    Database is 10.2 XE running on Windows Vista Home Premium.
    Thanks.
    John.

    What would you say is a large package that sometimes causes the compilation to fail? For example, in excess of 10000 lines of code.
    I've just tried a package with the minimal amount of code, with as many comments as required to demonstrate the problem as follows:
    Note: The last comment is on line number 108!
    create or replace package body "TEST_PACKAGE" is
    --Comments comments comments comments comments
    --Comments comments comments comments comments
    --Comments comments comments comments comments
    --Comments comments comments comments comments
    --Comments comm...
                                ...  comments comments comments
    --Comments comments comments comments comments
    --Comments comments comments comments commen
    procedure TEST_PROC
    as
    begin
    null; /* insert procedure code */
    end TEST_PROC;
    end "TEST_PACKAGE";
    {end code}
    You will notice that the last comment line is truncated. The above compiles everytime, but by adding one more character to the last comment line will cause it not to compile everytime. Downloading the above to disk gives a size of 5134 bytes, which is twice the size of the other package, which has a little more code, that I was trying to compile. When I say a "a little more code", I mean two procedures and one function of approximately 20 lines each!
    Oh well! Looks like I'll have to give SQLDeveloper a try as I don't fancy going through the "edit file/action file" loop in SQL*Plus or the "submit script/wait for results/examine results" loop in SQL Scripts.
    (For info, I am using Internet Explorer 7)
    Thanks.

  • Compile via object browser gives ORA-01031 insufficient privileges but...

    Hello,
    Last week I upgraded my APEX version from 2.2 to 3.01; I didn't find any problems up to now. Via the home>SQL Workshop>object browser screen, packages then edit package I modified a package. When I hit the 'compile' button, I got the message: ORA-01031: insufficient privileges.
    When I do 'alter package <package_name> compile [body]' via the home>SQL workshop>SQL commands screen the package is compile succesfully.
    To me this looks like a bug... same (apex) user, same priviliges...
    Has anybody an idea why I can't compile via the object browser screen, receiving the ORA-01031 message, but why I can compile the same package via sql-commands screen.
    The user I am logged on with in APEX is the owner of the package.
    Thanks in advance for your assistance.

  • Eclispe/IntelliJ/JCreator crashes while compiling project !!!

    I have just installed fresh new windowsXP with SP2. Then Java JDK 1.5_01. Next 3 IDE's Eclipse 3.1M4, IntalliJ 4.5, JCreator 3. I have very simple project with about 10-20 classes using JConnector(MySql JDBC). When i press compile button in each ide - ide crashes with no error message. Is there any bug in Java or rather WindowsXP_SP2? I try to find any solution on www but with no result. Please help...

    Java 1.5_01 and Eclipse 3.1M4 work for me on XP Pro SP1 just fine.
    Either SP2, a bad install, hardware, or a configuration parameter is the problem.
    If it only crashes when you try to compile, I'd suspect configuration errors.

  • Strange 6i's Compiler Behaviour

    Hi all,
    I am experiencing a strange behaviour on Form Builder (patch 5). Sometime when I fix/change something and recompile (using run button or file-admin-compile file), other part of the application (ussually report) will be broken.
    For example, before I change anything, it could run the report just fine (using run_product built in). Then I change something (NOT the run_product) like the name of the button and recompile. The next time I try to run the report, it sometime display the error message or display blank report.
    To fix it, I have to open the trigger that contain the run_product built in to see the PL/SQL code, press the compile button and then recompile the whole form again.
    Anybody else experiencing the same problem?
    Regards,
    Ari

    Hi,
    I got the same problem but not in run_report built-in, in the key-next-item.
    Sometimes when I'm navigate trough my items, my application close. I do same thing that you do, I recompile the trigger and the problem appears in another item.
    We didn't find a solution yet.

  • Missing compiler error output

    Hopefully this is a simple one:
    When I compile a program and there are errors and/or warning, the Build Output window opens, but the error messages are not listed!  All it shows is:
    Build Status (MyProject.prj - Debug)
       MyModule.c
    Build failed.
    If I click on the "Compile" button 4 or 5 times in a row, finally the list of errors will appear.  I can't seem to figure out any logic to when the error list appears or fails, but half a dozen retries eventually gets it there.  I've checked all of the compiler settings, and the appropriate warnings are turned on, etc.  What am I missing???
    I'm using Version 13.0.0 (632)
    Thanks
    Solved!

    Hello Rallyr,
    Are you building a project found on a mapped network drive? If so, this post might be of help. If not, could you provide us the details of the project? What configuration are you using? Are you using precompiled headers?
    Maybe you could attach a project that reproduces the behavior?

  • Importing Compilations into iTunes

    Have compilation which I am trying to upload into iTunes... As it is numerous different artists, all with there own album cover and details I am worried that iTunes will create hundreds of different album covers. How can I import these files and have theme come under 3 of 4 similar album covers; i.e. Rolling Stone Top 500 Vol I, Rolling Stone Top 500 Vol II etc.
    I know there is a compilation button to tick in Get Info but this has never worked in the past and I end up with a single track per album cover which clogs up my iTunes window.

  • Example code for java compiler with a simple GUI

    There is no question here (though discussion of the code is welcome).
    /* Update 1 */
    Now available as a stand alone or webstart app.! The STBC (see the web page*) has its own web page and has been improved to allow the user to browse to a tools.jar if one is not found on the runtime classpath, or in the JRE running the code.
    * See [http://pscode.org/stbc/].
    /* End: Update 1 */
    This simple example of using the JavaCompiler made available in Java 1.6 might be of use to check that your SSCCE is actually what it claims to be!
    If an SSCCE claims to display a runtime problem, it should compile cleanly when pasted into the text area above the Compile button. For a compilation problem, the code should show the same output errors seen in your own editor (at least until the last line of the output in the text area).

See the [line count|http://pscode.org/stbc/help.html#linecount] section of the (new) [STBC Help|http://pscode.org/stbc/help.html] page for more details. (Insert plaintiff whining about the arbitrary limits set - here).
    I considered adding line length checking, but the [Text Width Checker|http://pscode.org/twc/] ('sold separately') already has that covered, and I would prefer to keep this tool more specific to compilation, which leads me to..

    Interesting idea, but I think that is better suited to a more full blown (but still relatively simple) GUId compiler. I am not fully decided that running a class is unsuited to STBC, but I am more likely to implement a clickable list of compilation errors, than a 'run' button.
    On the other hand I am thinking the clickable error list is also better suited to an altogether more abled compiler, so don't hold your breath to see either in the STBC.
    You might note I have not bothered to update the screenshots to show the line count label. That is because I am still considering error lists and running code, and open to further suggestion (not because I am just slack!). If the screenshots update to include the line count but nothing else, take that as a sign. ;-)
    Thanks for your ideas. The line count alone is worth a few Dukes.

  • Enhancement request: dependency check cancel button

    I like the cancel compile button in 9.0.3. It would be nice if you could also include cancel button for stopping during the dependency checking phase of a deploy.
    PS I know you can kill the admin phase from the process window it's the phase in between the end of compiling and the admin phase.

    I've filed enhancement 2579440 for tracking. Thank you for your feedback.
