2.1 Update Seems to have totally killed my phone!!!!

I'm a uk iphone user on o2
Downloaded 2.1 the connect to itunes prompt appeared, i was already connected to itunes so i disconnected and plugged back in then my computer gave the "new usb device regcognised" prompt and asked me to install the software.
there is no software, and now obviously my phone will not turn on.
Any ideas?

i haven't been able to resolve this at all, i've tried starting in recovery mode and in DFU mode and both tell me to install software, as it would when you plug in a normal usb device.
I didn't unplug during the data transfer or the instalation i'd left the phone for well over half an hour as i was away doing other things and when i came back the connect to itunes prompt was there.
i left it for like 10-15 minutes thinking it was just working through, but nothing was happening and my IPhone wasn't displayed in itunes anymore thats the reason i unplugged and plugged back in.

  • Illustrator crashing after 16.0.1update, 16.0.2 update seems to have fixed it

I am running win7 with latest updates, running Illustrator (64-bit) from CS6 Web and Design Premium Suite.
Illustrator crashed 6 times this week after installing the updates from the end of last week (update 16.0.1). The updates that were released today seem to have fixed it, although I cannot absolutely confirm this.
I have spent the past hour trying to break the software doing the same tasks that caused crashes earlier this week, and then far more extreme tasks then I would ever actually do or need to do, and have not been able to recreate the same crash problems.
I have been using Illustrator for nearly 15 years, it's been very rare that I've ever experienced an illustrator crash like what was happening after the 16.0.1 update. I didn't have time to troubleshoot the issue until today, fortunately the 16.0.2 update seems to have resolved the issue. If the issue returns I will follow up with another post - it's rare though that I find an article that says "I've had this problem, but it looks like you fixed it". Thank you Adobe for the fix.

my apps still dont work =[
new ones i download work but the old ones dont!!
how do i fix this? i dont want to uninstall every single app
and i have tris.. how can i re-download that?! i cant if i take it off
anyone know how to make my old apps work?

  • Update seems to have broken openbox theming.

I updated about 2 hours ago and it seems to have broken a lot of my window manager.
I use openbox as a standalone window manager and have had no issues so far.
I update every few days and today caused the resizing-freeze issue, so I downgraded the suggested packages which fixed that.
However I have another issue with theming.
Programs such as firefox, thunderbird, thunar etc... all have the correct theme. However I use some gnome programs such as rhythmbox and nautilus and neither of these are themeing correctly as well as terminator and all appear to have the default gnome theme.
I use obconf and lxappearence for themeing normally, however these seem to have no effect.
I've done a fair amount of searching and googling and am now very tired and am going to bed.
If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. If I am being stupid in my sleep deprived state please feel free to point it out XD.

    Hi all. I'm also running Openbox and have done the following so far;
    1. Installed gnome-themes-standard. Created a new folder ~/.config/gtk-3.0/; Created the file in the folder "settings.ini" with the following code;
    [Settings]
    gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme = true
    gtk-theme-name = Adwaita
    gtk-fallback-icon-theme = gnome
Thanks to the info on the thread here
    2.  Checked out the post here. Downloaded the tar of Adwaita from this.page and did the usual "makepkg -s" magic and rebooted.
What I'm now getting is nm-applet in tint2 with the dark theme of Adwaita which is great but doesn't really match my dark theme axiomd but it's better than before.
What I'm wondering is how to manage this in lxappearance, change font etc?? If I select the theme Adwaita it's a light theme? Having looked in the directory there is both gtk-2.0 (i think this is the light one?) and gtk-3.0.
I've also noticed that it is affecting rhythmbox; slow to load and the status icon setting in the plugins is missing, so you close the GUI and find the app quits rather than the previous behaviour where it would close but the notification icon would still run in tint2 enabling one click control access to the GUI again.
I appreciate this is obviously a new implementation and will take a bit of time to learn but any tips from those in the know would be great!? TIA.

  • 10.6.2 combined update seems to have no effect

    Hello all,
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.0) from Leopard (10.5.8) and everything looked pretty good. However, I've tried to install the "10.6.2 combined update" through Software Update two times now and it doesn't seem to have worked either time. I get no error message, but after my computer restarts the "About This Mac" window still shows a system version of 10.6. Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

Combo update is not available via Software Update.
yes, it is if you are upgrading directly from 10.6. that's exactly what the OP got via software update.

  • 5.0.1 update seems to have destroyed personal content (calendar, contacts, phontos) also from iTunes backup

I updated 5.0.1 to my iPhone 4. Just before it I syncronized the phone with iTunes not to loose my content. However after uploading 5.0.1 I couldn't first connect the to iTunes and when I finally succeeded to get iTunes to recognize the iPhone the version to be syncronised seems to have lost all my personal content. How can I get my calendar, contacts, photos, apps etc. back?

Thanks, but this didn't help me.  My phone is a 3GS--maybe that makes the difference.  What ended up working was to hook back up to iTunes and right click on my phone's name, click restore backup, click restore at the next prompt, and then tell it no when it asks about activating the iCloud.  Now all my data is restored and the phone is working perfectly.

  • Latest ATV update seems to have worked...

I had been having a ton of problems with my downstairs ATV over the past month or so. It would continually drop out of itunes, and even restarting itunes wouldn't work. I tried a factory reset. Syncing would take up to 24 hours. Just really bad.
I did the check for updates and updated the software on the ATV with whatever changes were newest, and it seems to have worked. I've had itunes open for 24 hours and the Living Room ATV is still showing up on it. And I was able to stream some content somewhat efficiently. Still haven't tried to see how much improved the sync time is, but I'm hopeful.

OK, I tried running disk utility from the system disk as you suggested. It acted just the same way - froze about 1/3 of the way through. Gave the same error message, and the same scary message that if you stop running disk utility (which one must do since it will not run), then there is a risk of damaging the disk.
Thanks for the help. Any other suggestions?

  • [Solved] Recent update seems to have broke automount in XFCE

I seem to have managed to break my removable storage support.  It had been working since installation several months ago.  I have made no modifications to anything in /etc other than those that would be performed by package updates.

    Hi,
I automount four NFS mounts from my ubuntu server through /etc/fstab. This used to work perfectly. Until the latest filesystem update. The removable devices do not get mounted. They do not appear in Nautilus. But when I plug in a USB, they all get activated.
Anyway, I will try your solution.
    Regards,

  • Software update seems to have killed my iBook

I installed the three new updates today (Safari, security and Airport updates) on both my machines. The iMac is still working fine but the iBook refuses to restart. It just hangs on the grey "spinning gear" screen. I have managed to start up from the Leopard disc and repair the HD. I also tried repairing permissions on the HD while in that state but that also hung for ages with no progress. I can't start in safe mode either.
    1. Is it just me with a problem or are other Macs (especially iBook G4s) affected by these updates?
    2. What can I do to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

    For blingkerching and chrisram90:
If you put your Leopard DVD into the drive and then power up while holding c (hold it until the spinning gear and grey Apple logo appears), you will then go into the OSX installer on the disk. If you choose to install and select "archive and install" when prompted (when I did it this was the suggested option as I was replacing a newer version of OSX) it will reinstall OSX and restore all your settings, applications, data etc. Well, it worked that way for me anyway. I also backed up onto my iMac beforehand (using the iBook in target disk mode) in case it all went wrong but as it worked out I didn't need the backup after all.
The iBook is now working perfectly as if nothing had ever happened.
Just be aware that when reinstalling, the estimated time will tick down steadily then the last minute will actually take ages (mine took about 20 minutes!) - this is because that's when it's restoring all your stuff. Don't be alarmed that it seems to be hanging just as it's about to finish. It will get there eventually!
    I hope this is helpful.

  • Quicktime Update Seems to Have Killed iChat for Many People

I keep seeing the same problem from so many people after the latest Quicktime update...
Everyone tries the 443 port setting, the Quicktime/Streaming speed setting, Internet sharing setting, etc. but something is definitely wrong, because I suddenly have two friends who now can't video when it was working fine before the update. And neither is using a router, so it removes all the potential router setting issues.
There seems to be many people on this board with the same issue.
BTW, the Apple "genius" actually suggested it was probably the camera that was broken, after they walked my friend through all the standard settings (the camera works fine). But I'm not going to bring that up because I'm reading A New Earth and that's just my own ego talking.
ANYWAY -- Ralph Johns? You've been dealing with this a lot - doesn't it seem like more than a coincidence that all these iChat issues keep recurring? Or am I insane?

It is more likely the Time Machine and Airport update than Quicktime.
This update changes the OS level although it still calls itself 10.5.2 it can not be "repaired" by installing the Combo version over the top. (you get and error message that the Installer and OS don't suit each other)

  • Safari 4.1 Update seems to have killed my computer

Hey! I really hope someone can help.
I got the update notice for Safari 4.1 on my OS X 10.4.11 and updated. Now, Safari works really well, it's the rest of my computer that won't function. I've repaired disk permissions, and verified disk, both worked (no problems), but I cannot, cannot, cannot get into Finder, or most other programs. I can access System Preferences which, along with Disk Utility, I have in my Dock. One more symptom: when I do restart my computer, the top task bar does not appear until I open a program (Safari, Disk Utility, or System Preferences) and even after the program is closed, the task bar shows the last program, instead of the Finder bar.
Any suggestions shy of re-installing would be lovely. But, I'm suspecting a full re-install is necessary at this point...

    HI,
    Shy of reinstalling..
    Try booting in Safe Mode
    What is Safe Mode
It takes a little longer to boot into Safe Mode just so you know. Once you are in Safe Mode go to the Apple Menu/Restart.
Safe Mode can fix some glitches if Disk Utility couldn't find any errors on the startup disk.
While you are in Safe Mode, check for available disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
*Another thing to check in Safe Mode is startup items*. Open System Preferences/Accounts - Login Items. If you have any apps listed, there delete them, then restart from the Apple Menu.

  • Latest update seems to have killed my airport extreme

Did this happen to anyone else? I updated the firmware for my Airport Extreme on the 10th of July. I messed around with it for a day but it hasn't worked since the firmware upgrade. No matter what I do it can't see the internet. I have tried every possible reset, settings, etc. I can't get an appointment at a Genius bar because of the phone launch and this is becoming really annoying. Right now I'm using Ethernet and its fine, but I have lost all mobility and its the only computer in the house with internet at this point. Any ideas?

    Thank you for your response!
I tried the Safe Boot and it didn't work. (Except I did see the purple-spacey background at the log-in screen, which felt like a bit of an improvement)
I'm trying to repair disk permissions, but I'm not sure if it's doing anything or if it's just frozen. Does that usually take awhile?
Right now I'm just trying to get as much of my important stuff onto my harddrive as possible and then re-install the OS.
A bit of a different question, but this is my first Mac and it's been a nightmare, and any other Mac owner says that the problems I've been having with it aren't typical (freezes a lot, won't eject disks, won't wake up sometimes, runs really slowly when I change the resolution, runs pretty slowly if I have a few programs open, and now this), so if anyone else has gotten a dud Mac before, did you find that reformatting it helped, or did you have to take it to the Apple store and get it fixed?

  • 10.5.2 update seems to have removed all TM backups prior to today?

After updating to 10.5.2, I see that my Time Machine drive - which prior to the update had backups dating back to whenever I installed Leopard (November I think) - now only contains backups it made today. Anyone else seen this?

Yes, 'Warn when old backups are deleted' had always been checked.
The Console log revealed some issues. Here's the first backupd events following my update to 10.5.2:

There's more, but that seems the critical stuff. It looks like Time Machine thinks the UUID for my system drive had changed. After the first Backup ran, all backups (since Nov) prior to 2-11-08 were gone, and about 15Gb of space was recovered from the drive.
I have many, many other backup solutions in place, so this isn't mission critical for me. However, if TM can't maintain archived backups, I can't safely consider it for that.

  • 10.6.7 Update Seems to Have Trashed my System

Not sure, but it seems that ever since I installed the 10.6.7 update, I've had multiple software crashes, and today lost a client file totally.
    The problems I'm having are:
    1) InDesign CS4 crashing when I export to PDF, and at other times when I don't expect it.
    2) Acrobat Pro 10 crashing at various times.
    3) Photoshop CS5 crashed today and I lost a saved .psd file totally.
Earlier today I uninstalled, ran the cleaner, and reinstalled CS4 apps that I'm still using, then ran Permissions and DiskWarrior. The problems still exist.
My feeling is that this might be related to the recent Apple 10.6.7 Update.

Reinstalled both the operating system up to 10.6.6 and then Indesign. Looks like I am in trouble because InDesign simply will not run without multiple crashes. It's worse now than it was. Here are a few lines from a recent crash report.

    hi guys.
i've just turned on my arch 64 system after updating last night (or possibly the day before...)  and when i get to the gdm login the keyboard doesnt work. I can confirm the problem is not with the keyboard itself as i can still edit the boot options in grub. anyone else have this or have i broken something...
    thanks in advance,
    david
(edit:  on screen keyboard doesnt seem to be working either)

I could be wrong, but my understanding is hal would be needed as soon as X starts - so yes it could affect login with gdm. That would also fit with it not working in slim or starting xterm.
If you're pretty sure it's related to the updates it might be helpful to post the parts of pacman.log that are relevant so we can see what exactly got updated.

  • Today's Lumia 1520 firmware update seems to have b...

Updated my 1520 about 2 hours ago to newest firmware now none of the installed apps work.  Things tied to the OS work like People Hub, Photos etc... and a couple of Nokia apps work.  But any third party app I have installed just crashes out.  Nokia Maps, Drive, Flixster, IMDB and list goes on.  If I am starting an app from a live tile the screen does its rotation like the app is starting but it goes right back to the start screen.  Likewise if I start an app from the app list the screen rotates again like the app is starting but goes right back to the app list.  I have noticed that reinstalling the app seems to fix the problem.  There is no way I am re-installing all my apps.  It has taken me from launch day to get the thing like I wanted it and now this happens.  Rebooted the phone like 3 times still nothing.  If I check for update it comes back saying I have the latest version.
Has anyone else had issues with the 1520 after the firmware update?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Reinstall 1 app to see what happens. It may be you need to reset.
If you have set up backup options the phone will get all apps downloaded after the reset once you have an internet connection during Device first boot (cellular or Wi-Fi) and you sign in with your Microsoft account. You will need to set up the start screen again, but if you make a couple of screenshots and save them to Skydrive that takes all of a minute or so.
Unless we see (many) more reports like this it could well be tied to your specific phone somehow..
