2 tab canvasses on a single window (form)

Hi !
Does anybody know of a way to put 2 tab canvases on a single window. I would like to place 2 tab canvases, each holding 2 tab pages, on 1 window. However, from the moment you use "new tab canvas page" he directly puts the page behind the other tab pages instead of starting a new one. I already tried working with stacked canvases or "new content canvas". Even if your new tab canvas page is inside a new canvas he keeps on putting the tab pages behind the previous tab pages.
Would anybody know of a workaround ?

Hi Saeed,
A possible solution to generate two tab canvasses on one window is the following:
Add a (dummy) module component with (dummy) items between the last module component of the first tab and the first module component of the second tab.
At runtime, you can make this extra module component invisible.
So, in Designer you'll have the following Module Components, with property 'Placement':
MC1. 'New Tab Canvas Page' -- first tab-page of first tab
MC2. 'New Tab Canvas Page' -- second tab-page of first tab
MC3. 'New Content canvas' -- dummy block, between two tab canvases
MC4. 'New Tab Canvas Page' -- first tab-page of second tab
MC5. 'New Tab Canvas Page' -- second tab-page of second tab

It should be similar to what you are looking for.

Tab canvas on the main window

I have placed some items of the block on the tab canvas but ID is on the content canvas. When the query is executed. the tab canvas only appears when the navigation is transfered to the first item in the tab canvas. I want that at runtime. The tab canvas should appear irrespective of the navigation.. Could somebody help me with that

Why is Windows 7 showing firefox tabs open on a single window as multiple firefox windows on the taskbar?

if i open an extra tab, an extra firefox icon gets added to the taskbar (stacked icons turned on) If i close a tab, an icon disappears.

You can try to set some browser.taskbar.lists.* prefs to false on the about:config page.
* browser.taskbar.lists.enabled
* browser.taskbar.lists.frequent.enabled
* browser.taskbar.lists.tasks.enabled
I'm not on Windows 7 so I don't know which effect those prefs have.

Forms 5 Tab Canvas & Horizontal Scrollbar

We are trying to implement a tab canvas which will hold a multi-record data block. The difficulty is that we would like to display a lot of fields and there is no Horizontal Scrollbar easily available for the Tab Canvas.
We are thinking about "simulating" a tab canvas by using stacked canvases. The stacked canvas allows us to have the scrollbar, but looses some of the look & feel of a tab canvas.
Anyone try to do this in Forms 5? How about anyone try to place a stacked canvas on top of a tab canvas?

We're using forms 6.0.8.8. Our standard practice is to never put items on a tab canvas, instead we put stacked canvas' on the tab canvas. Besides having canvas scroll bars, it also provides a basis to work around documented bugs for refreshing/resizing windows when returning from other forms/windows of different sizes etc.

Tab Canvas displaying Stacked Canvas at runtime disappears?

I have 3 canvases that contain the following:
1) Content Canvas -- This contains the TREE item.
2) Tab Canvas -- A tab canvas with a single Tab Page
3) Stacked Canvas -- This is a Stack Canvas with a few
text items on it.
4) Single Window.
======At runtime the following actions occur: ==========
1) The Viewport of the stacked canvas is set to the
Viewport of the Tab Page on the Tab Canvas so that it
looks like the Tab Page has a vertical and horizontal
scrollbar with text items displayed.
2) A text item on the Stacked Canvas is in focus as soon
the as the form window is displayed.

1) When I select a Node of the Tree Item, the Tab Canvas
automatically disappears(or becomes invisible) , as a
result the stacked canvas displayed within it at
runtime also becomes invisible. I am left with only
the Tree item being displayed.

PS : I have never experienced this problem with just the
content canvas and the Tab Canvas together.
Any soultion to this problem is most appreciated.

I am experiencing the exact same thing. The width of the tabs in the layout editor is varied depending on the length of the text. However, at run-time, the width of the tabs is fixed, causing the tabs to be wider than the window and a set of VCR buttons to appear in the upper right corner of the canvas. Personally, I think this is a Forms bug. Why would they intentionally let us set the width to variable at design-time only to force a fixed width at run-time?

Tab canvas on a content Canvas

Hi,
I need to put a tab canvas on a content canvas in 10g R2.
and have items from the same data block distributed across the canvases.
I have set them up with the appropriate viewport for the tab canvas, but at runtime, the tab canvas does not appear untill an item on it gets the focus.
Both canvases are set to the same window.
I'm sure this is possible and I think I have done it before but for some unknown reason can't seem to remember how !.

Hi Steve,
Yup, it is definitely related to the window, if the window is the form's console window and the window is the first window created in the form (default window created with the first canvas mostly WINDOW1) the tab canvas is behaving in that way.
Create a new window and make sure that this window is not the console window and the behavior is very much normal, the tab canvas appears as soon as the window gets focused.
This what I have found out for now, if later testing shows anything else I'll post the results.

I just added a stack canvas on that same window and the problem returned....
So I rearranged the canvases, and purposely set the canvas on the console window, it worked, so now it seems that the problem appears if you have a stacked canvas AND a tab canvas on the same window.
Hope this ain't a bug it sure looks and acts like one though.

How do I Safari to open a new file in a new tab instead of a new window?

I've been experimenting with Safari recently. One of my primary uses of a browser is to run an application -- yes, run an application -- known as TiddlyWiki. TiddlyWiki is described as "a reusable non-linear personal web notebook," but it is actually much more. Being a non-techie user it's hard for me to describe what it is, and I couldn't begin to describe the many different ways people have put it to use.

All that by way of an unfortunately but necessarily complicated lead-in to my question. I usually have several TiddlyWikis running in my browser at once. With Firefox all were accessible by tabs from within a single window. Unfortunately, it appears Safari won't let me do this. It opens each new instance in a separate window, so that all the others are hidden behind the one in the current window. Not very convenient.
So, my simple question: If you have the faintest idea what I'm talking about, is there any way I can force Safari to open each instance of TiddlyWiki under a new tab in the same window?
I appreciate Safari's speed, and the relative cleanliness of its interface. However, and perhaps this is just being stuck in my ways from Firefox, I really don't like the way it handles tabs. I'd like to have the open of telling it to open each new link, application, whatever, in a new tab in the same window.
I have a suspicion I'm not going to get what I want, but I thought I would give it a try and see. Thanks for putting up with my long-winded vaguery, and if you should have any suggestions, thanks for them, too.

Tab position change at runtine of tab canvas

I will explain my situation. I have a form : INV. This has got three tabs : Header, Detail and Expenses. Some users prefer to see Header as the first tab while others want to see Details and still others like to see Expenses.They have their logic - what is important to that particular user he wants to see as the first tab.
These preferences can be set in a different table(by an admin user) and can be applied once when the form opens and not during the runtime.
Since tab order change facility is not available in forms, I need to apply the logic in a different way - activate the tab that each user prefers to see as the form opens regardless of the tab order.
Hope you understand my case.

What's the problem ? All Forms must have at least 1 "Content" canvas in which all content is displayed. You can arrange the Stacked or Tabbed canvases on your Content canvas in such a way that the information in the Content canvas will be also visible while u can resize the stacked or tabbed canvas in a specific area of the content canvas.
if it would be possible why they invent stacked & tab canvas that's my point of view.
but u can give it a try to make sure by using in when button pressed trigger the following...
show_view('canvas name');Hope it helps...

Forms 6i, Stacked & Tabbed Canvas- Wierd behaviour

I am having a wierd problem:
Scenario:
I have a datablock of 40 columns.
I put 1 (say col-1 on page_1 and col-21 on page_2) column each on two different TAB pages.
I created 2 stacked canvases: page_1_stacked & page_2_stacked
I put col-2 to col-10 on page_1_stacked
and col-22 to col-40 on page_2_stacked
I used the following code to show/hide the appropriate cols/stack canvases when the users changes Tab pages:

Problem:
Everything seems to work fine, the stacked canvases show/hide as expected, but --->as soon as I put my cursor in any column on TABBED PAGE (here col-1 or col-21), all the stacked canvases vanish
-->if as a result of above case where I put the cursor in a tabbed-page col and canvas vanished, I navigate to the next field (which is on canvas), the canvas shows up (which is normal)....but then this canvas wont get hidden with my hide view... and end up with all stacked canvases shown together or none at all
I have played around with all the properties and am really trapped.

Devang, are you aware that if you put the cursor focus in a field, Forms will ignore any show_view or hide_view commands if they cause the cursor to disappear? And if your cursor focus is in a field in a stacked view, hide_view will not work. Forms will not let you hide or cover up what ever item is identified by :System.Cursor_Item.
I do not know why you need Col_1 or col_21 on the tab canvas. Put them on your stacked canvasses, too.
Use a when-new-item-instance block-level trigger to determine which tab page should be displayed. If :System.trigger_item = col_1 through col_20, make sure Page_1 is displayed, and for col_21 through col_40, make sure Page_2 is displayed.
Similarly, use a when-tab-page-changed trigger to move the cursor to the correct canvas. You wouldn't even need to use show_view or hide_view, Forms will do that for you each time you move into an item on either canvas.
And why are you using two canvases anyway? Since you are using a horizontal scrollbar, why not put them all on a single canvas? (And then you wouldn't need the tab pages.)

Integrating mutiple forms into one form using tab canvas

Hi everyone,
I'm relatively new to Forms 6.0 and also to this discussion. Could somebody please explain the pros/cons while integrating 8 maintenance forms into one form(Each page in the tab canvas representing one form)?

If the maintenance forms are small, you can integrate them into a single form with a tab canvas, although 8 may prove difficult--try it and see what it looks like to have eight tab pages. Make sure the first block and field in the form navigator is the field you want to show at startup.
You would use multiple forms (1) to modularize largish chunks of complex code that don't interact with each other (2) to decouple logically separate applications (3) to decouple reusable modules that you can then pop into other applications (4) to create shareable components to share through an object library into base forms.
In your case, the main issue is the logical separation with reusability also raising its head. Each form is logically distinct for maintaining a specific set of tables, so putting it in a separate form makes sense. It would also allow you to reuse the maintenance forms in different applications without including everything. This might be a security issue, for example--some apps might need access to only some of the 8 forms.
Tab pages are also not as easily formatted as you might like, so check it out before assuming that tab page interfaces in Forms are your solution.

Oracle Forms 10G(tabbed canvasses not working the same as in Forms 6i)

Hi everyone,
I have a form which gets called from another form through a list of value. The called form(second form) has a group of tabbed canvases which get displayed depending on the parameters passed from the first form.
The Form is working prefectly fine in Forms 6i but when I converted the same form in to forms 10G it does not seem to work the same way. The tabbed canvasses are not getting displayed. I am manually having to press the execute query to get data displayed in the tabbed canvasses. I checked the parameters that are being passed and they are the same as that in Forms 6i.
Please let me know where my 10G Form is going wrong. Appreciate your help, please send me an email on [email protected]

[Solved] When I open multiple Firefox windows an orange pull down tab appears and I cannot exit from any single window. I have to exit all of the Firefox windows to close one.

I like to open several Firefox windows when I am browsing the internet. Since mi reinstall of windows XP with sp3 I installed Firefox 5.0.1. Now when I open multiple windows they kind of window in a window and I get this orange pull down menu. I can no longer close any one single window. I click the lower of the two top right X's to close the window and all the tabs in that window, but nothing happens. I also don't like the look and feel of the orange pull down menu

How to embed an applet on a tab canvas of a form

Hi, I am using JDeveloper 10.1.2.3 and 10 g DB. I have a requirement where I have to allow users to digitally sign or authorize an application in oracle forms. We use Topaz systems to sign all our documents in java. Now users want this facility in their oracle forms applications as well. I have written a bean that allows users to sign. I called this java bean from forms on click of a button and an applet pops up where in user sign and on clicking save button the signature is sent back to the form. However, what i was hoping for was to have this applet embedded within a tabbed canvas of the form, so that it appears that the user is signing on the form. This will also be useful when I have to load the signature back to the form. I don't think a separate hanging applet will look good.
Can anyone help me please.

as you already have a bean, try to show the frame of the java-applet inside the bean-area. Maybe there is also a class in your java-program yo can call directly without having to work with the apllet itself. it would also be helpful if you could post the code for your java-bean.
