2 VPN tunnels for failover
I am looking at turning up an amazon AWS windows server 2008 r2 datacenter instance and want to enable failover for a VPN tunnel in case one ISP goes down. 2 VPN tunnels from the server to a Dual WAN cisco router over 2 different ISPs - so that
if one ISP goes down, the other will work - while still providing for RDP access over the WAN IP.
How can this be done cost efficiently.
Not sure you'll get an answer here, this forum is for the Microsoft product Virtual Server 2005.
A forum that deals with AWS would be a better place to ask.

VPN tunnels for multiple sites
Hi, i am building new vpn tunnels for multple sites using 2 ASR 1004, and 100 remote devices cisco 2800 routers.
I am thinking of using getvpn to do it, am i thinking correct ????? can i use DMVPN ???? what is else there ???
thanksIs there a need for branch to branch communication? If so, I would go with the DMVPN option using a single tier, dual DMVPN cloud topology which will allow for spoke to spoke communication.

VPN Tunnel setup - can't ping either endpoint
So I was given the task to set up a new VPN tunnel for a client and even though I've basically made it open, we still cannot ping each other's endpoints. I troubleshooted for over an hour with one of their techs, still to no avail. I included the config of this router. The tunnel can build out, completes phase 1 and 2, but still doesn't allow traffic or ability to connect to either endpoint. Please help.
Result of the command: "sh run"

Message was edited by: Dennis FarrellHi Dennis,
Your tunnel to "12.145.95.0 LabCorp_Test_Remote" segment can only be initiated from host: RBPMAM is due to your crytp-acl below.
access-list Verizon-ISP_cryptomap_1 extended permit object-group DM_INLINE_PROTOCOL_11 host RBPMAM LabCorp_Test_Remote 255.255.255.0
Secondly your no-nat on internal interface is denying the traffic that must enter into crytp engine, therefore your tunnel never going to come up.
Therefore please turn it to a "permit" instead.
access-list Internal_nat0_outbound_1 extended deny ip any LabCorp_Test_Remote 255.255.255.0 inactive
Please update,
thanks

Want to configure BACKUP VPN in asa 5505 for failover link
Hi,
Current i'm having 2 isps one tata and another one reliance iwant to configure the backup vpn for reliance ip for same peer ip which tata vpn had configured
i mandatory to configure same SA,ENCRPTION,IPSEC POLICY,KEY,LIFETIME...etc for failover vpn also.Hi michael,
First of thanks for reply.
Can we do it by public certificate or DNS entry e.g. both ISP Public ip address entry will be in DNS and user will hit particular DNS name. You r right that once link down so user will disconnect but when he will retry then he will connect via another link.
Is it possible??

Can i use same address pool for different remote access VPN tunnel groups and policy
Hi all,
i want to create a different remote access VPN profile in ASA. ihave one RA vpn already configured for some purpose.
can i use the same ip address pool used for the existing one for the new tunnel-group (to avoid add rotuing on internal devices for new pool) and its a temporary requirement)
thanks in advance
ShnailThanks Karsten..
but still i can have filtering right? iam planning to create a new group policy and tunnelgroup and use the existing pool for new RA and i have to do some filetring also. for the new RA i have to restrict access to a particualr server ,my existing RA have full access.
so iam planning to create new local usernames for the new RA and new group policy with vpn-filter value access-list to apply for that user as below, this will achive waht i need right??
access-list 15 extended permit tcp any host 192.168.205.134 eq 80

One username for two tunnel in IPSec remote access vpn + ACS for authentication
Hi all,
I want to set up a username which can be used for two different IPSec tunnel (i.e. username USER1 can be used in tunnel TUN1 and TUN2). Can anyone help me how to do this? My current configuration is that I tied the username to tunnel group using group-lock (RADIUS property) so a username can only be used for a particular remote access vpn tunnel (USER1 can only be used for TUN1). I have already tried to enable multiple entry for group lock in ACS (by manipulating the dictionaru setting in ACS), but it seems that authentication still takes the first group and can not take the second group. You'd have to create a new AAA server group pointing to servers in the new domain for authentication.
Then make a new connection profile that uses that AAA server group.
Your users would have to choose the connection profile (absent some more advanced tricks like issuing them user certificates that can be checked for attributes which map to one profile or another).
This could also be done with ISE 1.3 which can act as the RADIUS server and join to multiple AD domains on the backend as identity stores. (or even with ISE 1.2 if you use one of the AD directories as an LDAP store vs. native AD). -
Bandwidth Allocation for a specific VPN Tunnel - PIX 525 7.2(1)
Hello,
I have a PIX with a 10 MB internet connection. This PIX has several L2L VPN Tunnels configured: Tunnel1, Tunnel2...TunnelN. I want to be able guarentee 5Mb of the total 10Mb to a specific VPN Tunnel. Is this possible? I have read the following links, however I believe that the configuration guidelines I'm looking for are a combination of several examples shown here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a008080dfa7.shtml#tab4
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-1230
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_tech_note09186a008084de0c.shtml#cqos
The tunnel is being defined by the following commands:
crypto map prdmay 20 match address vpn_1
crypto map prdmay 20 set peer 61.172.142.222
crypto map prdmay 20 set transform-set TS
access-list vpn_1 extended permit ip 10.14.102.0 255.255.255.0 any
access-list vpn_1 extended permit ip 10.14.101.0 255.255.255.0 any
tunnel-group 61.172.142.222 type ipsec-l2l
tunnel-group 61.172.142.222 ipsec-attributes
pre-shared-key *
Is the following what I need to do in order to accomplish what I want:
priority-queue outside
class-map vpn_5Mb
match access-list vpn_1
match tunnel-group 61.172.142.222
policy-map police-priority-policy
class vpn_5Mb
police output 5120000
service-policy police-priority-policy interface outside
Thank you for your help.I don't think the ASA will let you match on ACL and tunnel group at the same time.
Just the ACL will do though. The ACL should match local ip addresses (there are usually no-natted for the VPN anyway).
Here is a page with a QoS examples on the ASA for reference https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-1230
I hope it helps.

Which wireless router do I need for multiple VPN tunnels?
I work at home and I connect to my office VPN (SSH Extranet Client) thru cable broadband. I need to have 2 VPN tunnels open as I frequently have my laptop & desktop connected to my work VPN. I've had a BEFSX41 for the past 3 years and it's worked good as it allowed for 2 VPN tunnels. It just died on me a few days ago and I would like to go wireless now. What wireless router(s) would meet my needs? Thanks in advance for any input.Message Edited by nolesworld on 11-27-200606:24 PM
Message Edited by nolesworld on 11-27-200606:38 PMhi , the WRV200 will be a good choice....supports upto 50 tunnels and has wireless capabilities....

Customer wants a public IP address for RDP after VPN Tunnel
I have a customer that wants to set up a VPN tunnel with me with a Public IP address and a Public address for the host. I am completely at a loss as to how to accomplish this. The customer states that it against his company policy to have a remote host to connect to that is not in the public address space. I have given him a public Peer address to connect to for the establishment of the VPN Tunnel. However he states that he needs the host to be in the public address space as well.
What is my customer asking for? Surely he does not want me to put RDP on a public address? The motive of your customer is not very clear. If the motive is to hide the remote (RDP) addressess then we can do it by natting (Static or Dynamic). We can allow the natted IP as interested traffic over the VPN tunnel. Because if we are getting the local IP into the public pool then it we don't need VPN tunnel. We can access it directly over internet too.

Include multiple sub-interfaces in Cisco ASA for VPN tunnel
I am trying to create a VPN tunnel between two Cisco ASAs where one ASA has multiple sub-interfaces.
Say, In Cisco ASA 5550(in datacentre), I created multiple subinterfaces with VLAN ID as below:
Inside, int0/1 : 10.1.1.0/24
DMZ, int0/1.100: 10.1.100.0/24 (VLAN 100)
Production, int 0/1.101 : 10.1.101.0/24 (VLAN 101)
Management, int 0/1.102: 10.1.102.0/24 (VLAN 102)
And another Cisco ASA 5505 is only configured with 1 x inside interface Inside, int 0/1: 192.168.1.0/24
So far, I have only been able to provide outside access to one of the sub-interfaces as NAT rule on inside interface didn't work for VLANs. Hence had to issue Global NAT rule to be applied on Production subinterface so that production VLAN can have outside access. I have managed to establish VPN tunnel between two ASAs on Production sub-interface only, Source interface = Production subinterface
Additional settings:
Have ACL to allow all sub interfaces to access outsite ( lower security level)
NAT rules is configured on Production subinterface with Source NAT Type as Dynamic PAT; when this was configured with source interface as inside, PCs behind various VLAN coun't access internet.
I want to establish a site-to-site VPN tunnel with multiple sub-interfaces of Cisco ASA 5550 to Cisco ASA 5505. Would you please suggest what I am missing in my configuration? Can a Juniper SSG 5 create a VPN tunnel to a sonicwall TZ215 for site to site?
Ok awesome, thanks.
Hello all, at my main location (FL) I have a Sonicwall tz215, but also have an older Juniper SSG 5. I am wanting to put a backup server at our NY location, and was wondering if I would be able to create a VPN tunnel with the Juniper to the tz215 without having to buy another sonicwall to allow for offsite backups.
If anyone has info, or even a basic yes or no if this is possible, it would save me a lot of trouble trying to figure out how to get it done.
Thanks!

Cisco ASA - 2 Site to Site routes needed for failover -Is possible?
3 physical sites. 2 ASA 5510 (routing mode_). 3rd site is in between ASA sites. 2 different connections. Depending on which link goes down, a certain set of Network Lists for Site to Site VPN is needed to place the 3rd site subnets where they belong depending on which link dies. The tunnels all work. Here is my wonder: Can I automate this somehow in my environment (all Cisco 3750/3560/2960) so that I can leave both tunnels in place so that if either link dies, the appropriate tunnel is picked for failover? Running 8.03 code on ASA. Using EIGRP (love that protocol). Anyone have any ideas?
You can implement failover or loadbalancing . Use this configuration examples for your configurations.

RV016 V3 vs RV082 V3 VPN Tunnel Backup not available on RV016
VPN tunnel backup is not available on the RV016 firmware version 4.0.2.08 (it IS on the RV082. The data sheet and the manual for the RV016 is wrong. I have purchased several RV016 hardware V3 and several RV082 hardware V3. Both have the same current firmware version. We have noted that the RV016 does not have the VPN tunnel failover option found in the RV082. It also does not have split DNS (noted in the manual. A I would have thought that the firmware would provide equal options on the RV042, RV082, and RV016. Good job, Cisco!
We did not have VPN back up with the V1 RV016, either. Also tried V2 and at the time it was not working. The product that we have found works as expected is the Peplink Balance. There is still a few second delay on failover, but if you have two broadband connections, it is imperceptible. We gave up on the Cisco products.

Configure a VPN client and Site to Site VPN tunnel
Hi, I'm setting up a test network between 2 sites. SiteA has a 515E PIX and SiteB has a 501 PIX. Both sites have been setup with a site to site VPN tunnel, see SiteA config below. I also require that remote clients using Cisco VPN client 3.6 be able to connect into SiteA, be authenticated, get DHCP info and connect to hosts inside the network. However, when I add these config lines, see below, to SiteA PIX it stops the vpn tunnel to SiteB. However, the client can conect and do as needed so that part of my config is correct but I cannot see why the site to site vpn tunnel is then no longer.
