2 x Talk21 Email Accounts

Hi,
Both myself and my father have seperate @talk21.com email accounts.
We both recieved the email informing us that our accounts where going to end on the 14th April.
Neither of us have BT Broadband so my father decided to sign up for the 12 months free then 1.60 a month premium mail so as not to loose his.
He apparantly then can have 10 sub accounts.
My question is can I move/link  my exisiting @talk21.com email account to his and then go halfs on the monthy costs with him or do I need my own.
Any advice would be great
TIA

  • PlusNet and btinternet/talk21 email accounts?

Is BT allowing plusnet users to continue using btinternet and talk21 email accounts for free?  I am aware that there is a free extension for 12 months but wondered if PlusNet (part of BT for people like me!!!!) can be used to link these emails.
I am not that much worried about this but just want to know what the situation is.
    Thanks.

Although they are part of the BT group. PlusNet are a totally different ISP, and have their own e-mail services, so they would have no association with the old talk21 accounts.

  • Talk21 email accounts

    Hi Guys,
As you are aware, BT is closing some of its basic email services as part of its attempts to simplify its email product options and offer the best email service to its customers. When the Talk21 email service was launched there was not the large choice of free email services that are available today. The Talk21 email service offers basic webmail access, it does not support access through devices or email clients and offers a lower level of spam protection which therefore doesn’t meet the needs of the majority of our customers.
These changes affect a small percentage of BT customers, who can still keep their email address by linking it to their BT Broadband account free of charge. This means, once they have linked their current Talk 21 address to their BT broadband account, they don’t have to do anything else and can continue using their e-mail account as before.
It also affects some customers who are no longer with BT for their broadband, but have retained the email address from when they were using BT Broadband. Non-BT Broadband customers can also keep their email address if they choose to move to BT Premium Mail for £1.60 a month (6p a day). Or, they can switch to free email accounts from other providers.
BT has written to affected customers to inform them of the options available to them if they wish to keep their email address.  Customers can also find out more about the changes at BT.com/emailchanges”
    Thanks

  • Closure of talk21 email account

Can anyone advise if there is a way to download or copy all of my stored email folders and individual messages. I am anxious to complete this task before my account is closed in September.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Have a read through these links.
Basically it is how you access your email. If you use IMAP it replicates what is on your webmail account which includes all your folders and you can download and save them. If you use POP it will not replicate the folders you have set up on the webmail account and you will not be able to download them.

  • Charging for Talk21 email addresses, money grabbin...

How is Talk21 an “out of date” basic email services?
I have been using may Talk21.com for at least the last 12 years+ and therefore my account has become important to me and your decision to charge is extremely disappointing.
I thought BT mail had migrated to Yahoo? The Yahoo mail service is still advertised as free. Please can you tell me what I get over and above the free service from Yahoo for the £1.60 a month (Yahoo provides unlimited storage protection, Powerful spam and virus protection with limitless space) other than just to continued use of my email address?
When I was migrated to Yahoo I was also given a Yahoo email address. Can you confirm that my existing emails will remain and only the talk21 address will stop working?
I could perhaps understand this move if the address contained “BT”. It doesn’t and who now associates Talk 21 with BT?
Giving only one months notice smacks of blackmail and strikes me as a cynical money making exercise or just lazy. Surely to transfer an email address to Yahoo costs little more than a button push and generates goodwill rather than hostility?
    Paul

fully appreciate what you are saying gg30340 there are however a couple of points.
talk21 was a service design and supplied by BT to "supply every uk household with an email address for free for life" - i'm still alive, BT's still alive so i just wonder what the definition of life is. If they cannot afford to run a free email service then they should never have offered it nor made such rash promises.
talk21 was of course morphed into the bt-yahoo system. during this time we have been bombarded with advertising and indeed only recently agreed to new TOS to allow contextual advertising based upon the content of our emails. The email service is free for us but along the lines this advertising is either making money or helping to subsidise the service being offered.
so, why should they offer free email to non-BT customers - well i think the point here is maybe they shouldnt for all new registrations however they HAVE offered it in the past and they do really have a moral (at least) duty to serve these customers until such time they leave or pass them across to a.n.other supplier. If they want to reverse out of this agreement so much simple a) come with us for £1.60 and enjoy x, y, z or b) transfer to yahoo and enjoy the following services for free. Holding an email address to ransom and stating pay £1.60 a month or we will delete not only your address but every email you have stored is not really the way to go about things.
you are quite correct there are plenty of free email providers out there and as the UKs leading name in communications you would expect you could trust BT but the trust that talk21 email account holders in particular have placed in them is misplaced as we have all now been stabbed in the back.
irony is, i havent even received an email from them mentioning this new business model, i do wonder when they will get around to it as leaving a month to sort things out is pretty poor but as we have seen from the UK's leading communications provider, unfortunately communication is not their strong point - and yes having tried three different ways to speak to someone regarding this last night chat, phone and email i can confirm that no-one has a clue what is going on or who to talk to if you are a basic email customer.

  • BT email accounts rejecting emails we send on beha...

    Hi
I work for a company that hosts multiple databases for customers in the Estate and Letting industry and we offer the facility for them to email their clients through our system. We affectivly send the emails on behalf of the user from our server using their email address as the sent_from address.
Recently (1-2 months) my support desk have been receiving loads of calls advising that the emails to btinternet and talk21 accounts are not being received (not sure if others are affected too) and the bounce backs they are receiving suggest that the recipients mailbox is full, however emailing the same email address directly from the end users outlook / gmail accounts and the email is received without a problem.
We thought it may be an SPF issue so tested this theroy with a couple of clients and had our server IP addresses added to their SPF records with no positive effect... this has since been reverted back.
I have also run our IP addresses through (http://www.cyren.com/ip-reputation-check.html) and all return no problems.
There has clearly been a change to BT email accounts recently which has caused this issue but despite seeing other 'similar' posts I dont see that this has been resolved yet and my customers are still experiencing the problem.
All I need to know is that BT acknowledge this issue and can advise what needs to be done to recify it either by us or our client or their client.

@QSLM_SUPPORTThis is a customer to customer self help forum, the only BT staff are the moderators. I'm afraid you will not get any official technical help here. This seems to be an ongoing problem with the BT mail system at the moment. To say the whole mail system is a shambles currently is an understatement, BT are in the process of ditching their current mail supplier (Yahoo) in favour of a company called Openwave (formerly Critical Path). They seem to lurch from one disaster to another and seem incapable of coping with the size of the BT mail operation. In an effort to reduce spam to end customers, they appear to be over zealous with some of their implementations. Not much help I'm afraid but it puts you in the picture. I think the only way this is going to get resolved is by high level complaints by people such as yourself.

  • Talk21 email not working on my Android phone

For over a week now I've been unable to receive any of my talk21 emails on my Android (HTC Desire Z) phone. I can still send emails however. I have been into the Vodafone shop twice and they've tried everything they can think of and I've even done a factory reset (and lost all my apps) and it still isn't working. Vodafone says it must therefore be a problem with my email/BT and it is possibly because they are migrating their server, and they told me to ring BT and ask this question. After about ten minutes of being passed from pillar to post, I finally got someone who told me no, they are not migrating their servers, they do not know of any reason why I am having this problem, and they can try to fix it for a £30 fee. I don't think that's really fair!
I have deleted and reactivated by email account on my phone several times, I definitely have the right POP/server/ login details etc but it just won't show any incoming emails. Is anyone else having a problem like this and does anyone know what I can do? Or does anyone have a phone number for BT where I won't go through to their standard call centre and waste 20 minutes trying to explain the problem to someone who doesn't seem to understand what I'm talking about?

Yeah after I posted I found out that most of the carriers had outages starting yesterday afternoon. But it was resolved late last night and emails started sporadically coming in for people, then it started up normally again

  • Privacy of migrating Talk21 email to main BT BB ac...

Funny how annoying it is, to wait for 20 minutes for BT Chat to answer this question. only to get cut off when at the Number 1 position?
    Ho hum.
A question for the kind masses; I'm not being given much option; my ancient but main talk21 email address must now be migrated to a BT email BB package.  OK, my partner has BT Infinity so this looks promising. However, I want to know whether my usual email password can be over-ridden by the main account holder - in this case my other half - as my account will effectively become a sub-account of hers.  I have emails from many years before we met, and I want to keep my historic emails private.  I would like to migrate the account, but wonder whether I then hand over control of my emails to an albeit-lovely other person?
    Many TIA,
    John

Thank you.  I'm sure you are correct.  I don't feel very comfortable not "owning" the account fully though, so I'll probably steer cleer of BT.  The chat finally got through - and was worse than useless.  Waiting 20 minutes to be told "phone the Premium Mail service" is not helpful - the helpdesk person didn't even have a BT account themselves.  Just ridiculous.
So, in a way, BT have got what they want; I am migrating my T21 to another provider.  However, when we move shortly, I'll not be using BT for BB.  I prefer the customer service I get from Virgin.  May seem petulant/petty, but it's an expensive service and actually a good supplier would have assisted with email migration rather than the rather blunt "a month to comply".  I rather like being "delighted" by my suppliers; it still happens and that is where I put my money.  I don't like being treated as a commodity, and I don't like being unable to get quick, accurate assistance when necessary.
Very kind of you to answer my question; I assumed you're not a BT employee and really appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me.  A pity BT have to rely on the free good will of others to do their day to day business...
    Cheers,
    John
(9000+ emails draining out of my account as I watch; that's 9000 revenue-generating emails lost to BT)

  • BT cancelling email account

I am about to move from BT toanother broadband provider.
I was advised when I called earlier that my BT email account will be closed. However, my email account is a Talk21account which I have had for 12 years (since before I was a BT customer). Talk21 are now part of BT YAHOO and my broadband account is linked to this mail.
Can I prevent BT from closing this?

Its possible that the information on this page may help, as they may also deal with talk21.

  • Talk21 email service stopping, how do I backup/migrate?

I've used Talk21 for my email for years and years. It went to Yahoo, then BT and I've just had an email saying that its going to stop and I have 3 options. Buy BT broadband, pay £1.60/month or leave.
I have Virgin BB, don't want to pay a monthly fee, and although not too happy with it, I'll have to let it go and use my Gmail email.
So how can I backup my Talk21 email? It was my prime email (I learnt not to use a ISP email in case you leave...).
I have numerous emails and folders etc that I want to keep. I've always just used it as webmail and on my iPhone nits also on my iMac mail app.
Is there any easy way to backup/export/save all my email? I suppose I could forward all the email to my Gmail one, but this would take ages with the number I have. I also don't have that long to do it, finishes around start of Sep.
Any help on someone who has done similar, or anything I can do.
    Cheers

Sorry to be a little unsure here, and again thanks for the help.
So if I export the Inbox (I have 2 under Inbox , Virgin and Talk21), If I chose the Talk21 inbox and export, will this include my folders as well?
No, you must export each folder individually, and in the case of multiple accounts you must seperate the 2 accounts. ie: export all T21 mailboxes and after completion move them to a folder caller Talk21, then do the same with Virgin This will avoid having multiple inboxes with no way of knowing which is which when you import them.
Sorry dont undertand what you mean when you say "You are moving these over the internet to Gmail and from Talk21 (on the export), so it won't be instant, I suggest letting each mailbox finish importing/exporting before starting the next"
I thought I was going to import them into Gmail somehow?
You are, but Gmail stores its email on the web (as does any Imap account) so while you are importing locally to Mail, Mail is then pushing them online to Gmail, which takes time. Too much going on at one time will possibly cause a failure.
Just take your time, it will all work just fine.

  • Hi Apple support, my name is Derek Turner and I have been hacked through a friend's email account and I wish to know if 1. I can clean my email list of names and account with software and 2. How is it possible to delete emails that are still coming back

Hi! My name is Derek Turner and I have been hacked through a friend's email message to me which I opened unsuspecting any danger.  Initially, he sent me an 'attention' or warning email with a link which I tried to open but it could not be opened, so I left it not knowing what it was all about at the time.  Later, I received another email from him (probably the hacker) and opened a 'not very pleasant' web site.  It did not twig with me at the time as I am a bit new to this type of thing but when I mentioned it to my wife she immediately said that I had been 'hacked'.  By this time it was too late, and it infected all my email addresses!  I would be grateful if you may know if there is software that I can use to clean up my email account and if there is anything for iPad minis that can prevent this happening in future? (Malware, Firewall?).  I am also getting emails back that relate to the hacker and I cannot 'delete' them from my iPad, only on my PC!  Any suggestions?
Thank you for your time regarding this matter,
Derek Turner,( a very new iPad mini user!)

    Hi,
I don't think that can be solved by any advice the regular posters could post here.
I would go back to Apple and explain the situation (again).
I would also consider closing the account (Apple rarely seem to do this as accounts are never deleted but just closed).
I understand this may cause issues for things purchased in iTunes and the App Store which my include Restoring the OS at some point.

I have three email accounts on my iphone.  one of the accounts is now constantly downloading old emails and marking them as unread. I can I stop this from happening?

iPhone mirrors the content of your accounts. You can turn off that account by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > account > turn off mail. Then access your email account via webmail/website and delete them there. Once you turn on the account again in your iPhone it wont download them all. Otherwise to leave it downloading then mark them all read once downloaded.

If you go to Settings > iTunes & AppStore , you can sign out from your account, and sign in with the one you've used to purchase apps. This will not remove any apps you already have on it.
Then you can go to AppStore and download apps you've purchased (either via "Purchased" button in "Updates", or simply search for them and download them.
That way you can have multiple accounts' apps on your iPad. When updating, you will be prompted for the credentials for account you've purchased given App with.
