2012 Client stuck problem

Hello. I've come across an oddity and I'm a bit stuck. I was reviewing some application deployments and noted that in one particular room, after a month half of the PCs were still reporting an "In Progress" state. I remoted on to one of these PCs
and found that there was about a dozen apps waiting to install. Two were listed as "downloading", the rest were waiting.
I had a flick through the logs and found that the CAS log was filling every 5-9seconds with the same line:
<![LOG[IsCacheCopyNeeded returned 'true' by {5777363A-FB22-4a42-ABB0-522DD42711DC}]LOG]!><time="10:29:04.624+00" date="11-27-2013" component="ContentAccess" context="" type="1" thread="260"
file="cachemanager.cpp:344">
...it's the same reference on every PC stuck in this "in progress" state.
I have also noted the CCMEXEC log is spamming the following line every ten minutes:
<![LOG[No logged on cached user during monitor task, trying to select.]LOG]!><time="20:20:57.378+00" date="11-21-2013" component="CcmExec" context="" type="1" thread="1660" file="senslog.cpp:1570">
...even if someone *is* logged on.
I have noticed this in the LocationServices log:
<![LOG[The number of discovered DPs(including Branch DP and Multicast) is 0]LOG]!><time="14:32:37.783+00" date="11-21-2013" component="LocationServices" context="" type="1" thread="1672"
file="lsutils.cpp:872">
Also, the SMS service will not stop cleanly. It hangs when attempting to stop.
What I've tried:
Attempting a client repair doesn't work.
Purging the download catalogue/Software Distribution/Catroot2 folder doesn't work.
I have tried uninstalling the client, purging the above folders and then reinstalling. The CAS is now behaving but the machine seems dead in the water in terms of the missing osftware updates, AppV 4.6 apps, AppV 5 apps and the physical installs.
I don't really want to ask that half a teaching space is taken out for a rebuild, do does anyone have any ideas? I am at a loss to understand why twenty PCs out of eight thousand have just suddenly all started showing the exact same error in the same room.
My gut is pointing at the network or boundaries?
Cheers.

Rashmika, do you remember the log file that ultimately told you about the faulty app? We *are* using App-V and I'm seeing this problem on a number of machines.
Hi there, sorry for the delay, but I had to dig through two eyars of email archive to find the info xD
In order to track this down, I enabled logging on the client by doing the following:
1. Open regedit and navigate to following location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ CCM \ Logging \ @ GLOBAL
Set LogLevel to 0
1.    Create the following KEY under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ CCM \ Logging\DebugLogging Name: Enabled DataType: REG_SZ Value : True
...and then CAS.log started showing more information about the issue. Originally it was just spamming:
<![LOG[IsCacheCopyNeeded returned 'true' by {5777363A-FB22-4a42-ABB0-522DD42711DC}]LOG]
However with the above keys set, I could now see:
<![LOG[IsCacheCopyNeeded returned 'true' by {5777363A-FB22-4a42-ABB0-522DD42711DC}]LOG]!>
<![LOG[Found the AppV package [{B866BAFB-8F26-4C87-9169-3B6269EED5A1}] uses ConfigMgr content ID [Content_74376190-0a4e-4c73-a4d0-955b1bb76961] version 1, and it is configured as download and execute]LOG]!>
<![LOG[The AppV package {B866BAFB-8F26-4C87-9169-3B6269EED5A1} is not fully loaded into AppV cache, so we cannot delete the ConfigMgr cache copy(content ID Content_74376190-0a4e-4c73-a4d0-955b1bb76961 Version 1)]LOG]!>
<![LOG[The content Content_74376190-0a4e-4c73-a4d0-955b1bb76961 version 1 is needed]LOG]!>
...so now I had something concrete, and perhaps a reasonable explanation towards what was happening. If I recall, it wasn't so much package/reference 5777363A-FB22-4a42-ABB0-522DD42711DC, this was a bit misleading. I now had the actual content ID and a package
reference that led somewhere!
Hope it helps! Please post back if the root cause of this was some kind of DSC linked App-V 4 package :)
Rash.

  • How can I remove the SCCM 2012 client and reinstall SCCM 2007 client on all of our computers

    Hello All
We have  bit of a problem. Our virtual SCCM 2012 r2 server was deleted and the back solution we had in place keeps failing.
We do have our sccm 2007 server still in place but its only role was imaging as we transferred roles from one to another.
My question is now our support needs to remote into pcs but cant because the CM12 server is gone. How can I remove the 2012 client from all of our companies computers and reinstall the CM07 client so we can remote into computers again.
    Thanks in advance!
    Phil
    Phil Balderos

Run a ccmsetup /uninstall on the clients. You may need to run via PSExec. Then push out the SCCM 2007 client via the 2k7 console.
    Cheers
    Paul | sccmentor.wordpress.com
    Thanks Paul!
I have to do this on over 350 computers and 110 servers. How can I do it on a more massive scale?
    Phil Balderos
I would check Torsten's approach first and see if the ccmsetup will uninstall the 2012 version. I'm not sure. Obviously the other way round is fine.
Using PSexec you can script this to call up a txt file of all your servers/computers and run the uninstall.
    e.g.
    for /f "tokens=*" %a in (computers.txt) do psexec \\%a %WINDIR%\ccmsetup\ccmsetup.exe /uninstall
If your account has privileges on all devices you won't need to add in any username/password credentials. Obviously only devices that are switched on and you have access to will run this.
    Cheers

  • SCCM 2012 - Client Installed but No Software Center

    Hi Everyone,
I've a strange problem on my Management Point.
The SCCM 2012 client is installed, but there isn't Software Center (on all other Server it has been installed).
I've tryied to install it manually & with the push installation , but no change.
when I try to push it to the server it has an error File C:\Windows\ccmsetup\{181D79D7-1115-4D96-8E9B-5833DF92FBB4}\client.msi installation failed. Error text: ExitCode: 1635
But when I try to install Manually Exit code is 0 (no error)
    Cheers

    Hi,
Have you checked the log files ccmsetup.log ,ccmsetup-ccmeval.log, client.msi.log and SoftwareCenterSystemTasks.log? Maybe it can give us some clues.

  • SCCM 2012 client in capture but deploy has default step "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr"

    Hi,
We have our SCCM 2012 client in the capture but the deploy has a single step "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" in which there is no option to NOT install the sccm 2012 client.
So what happens then, the client is installed a second time?
    Please advise.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

    Hello !
This is a mandatory step in order to configure Windows for a first use. In your case, the SCCM client will just be serialized, it's not a problem. The SCCM client has generally been prepared during the design capture.
    Hope this helps.

  • Deploying the SCCM 2012 Client to WES 7 devices that are locked down with the FBWF using 2007 task sequence via WEDM.

I'm wondering how people are migrating their embedded devices that are using the FBWF. I've done some googling and it seems like most people are just re-imaging the devices and after migrating a single device i see why. Its not a pretty process. This will
be a long description but ultimately my question stems more from trying to find a better way to execute the device migration from 2007 to 2012.
Some back ground on my situation might be in order here. I'm in the process of wrapping up our 2007 to 2012 migration. We have a 2007 infrastructure that was a central server with 2 primaries and 286 secondary site servers. I've consolidated that to a single
2012 primary site server that hosts all the main roles. There are 2 more servers in the data centers both operating solely as push distribution points I'll refer to them as 2012 01 02 and 03. I'm over half way through the migration and so far haven't needed
to offload any site roles. There are almost 10,000 clients now reporting to the 2012 site server and almost a 100 field servers pulling content from 2012 02 as their source dp as pull dp is the only way forward for this many devices. I've read the horror stories
of trying spin up 200 plus push dps. We are running PKI. I'm at the point now where i need to start migrating the Windows Embedded Seven Standard clients that have the 2007 sccm client on them with WEDM for write filter handling.
What i'm wondering is if anyone has any pointers for me regarding migrating the WES 7 devices. My plan that i've come up with is to somehow script the process using a 2007 WEDM Task Sequence to try and migrate them over to 2012. Things are complicated as
I need to somehow script the install, the policy checkin, hardware inventory, software inventory, and validate the SCEP client installs before I reboot the device one last time to enable the FBWF. How I handled the SCCM 2007 client install on these devices
when they were provisioned was to just create a batch file that would sleep for ten minutes then check to see if the inventoryagent.log file had been created yet. I realize now that is inefficient as i can kick off the inventory using a WMI method once the
client has installed. Also I need to make sure the machine gets its first policy as that is how it creates the communication using PKI through that first policy transfer and that also finalizes the client install. The biggest piece i'm uncertain about in this
    regard is the SCEP client.
I had to change the SCEP client install from yes to no in the default client settings as we have some Mcaffee servers that can't have the SCEP client on them. I have incremental updates enabled on the collection that has the policy that installs the SCEP
client but this will take an unknown amount of time unless i force the environment to update as the device starts in 2012 install, or if I could kick off the SCEP isntall... IDK. I'm also wondering if i should keep the device in the migration process until
i validate it has its proper scep policy applied which I believe can be validated by a registry key somewhere.
Once the 2012 client gets installed will that cause it to lose its place within the 2007 Task Sequence? Considering its going to take a minimum of 2 reboots I'd normally use the task sequence to handle its progression through the process.
I'm also considering trying to use an Orchestrator runbook, as that would be a good way to keep track of the migration process as each device migrates. Especially since this might take several seperate scripts.
I'm going to take a stab at scripting the migration process, but if anyone has any pointers that might make this a less complicated I'd really appreciate it as I've got about 3000 of these devices that need to be migrated over. The other things i've learned
the hard way is any time you have something this complicated over the course of 3000 devices you will run into unknowns and the failure rate increases. I'm in the precarious position of having to not only build this process out but in some situations have
it complete in the shortest amount of time possible as we have sites running 24x7. I know the end users behavior all to well and they will just keep hitting the power button sometimes even though their not supposed to so they can get their device functional
again. In those situations i'd end up, if i'm lucky with a device that no longer has a healthy SCCM client in either environment and the write filter disabled.
So like i said any pointers anyone could throw my way i'd really appreciate. I manually went through the migration process on a single device for proof of concept and ended up with almost 2 pages of pseudo code for my migration script/scripts.
    Thanks,
    -K.R.

    Hi,
In R2 there are some new variables you can use to solve this,
    http://ccmexec.com/2014/12/smstsmplistrequesttimeout-value-in-milliseconds/
In Sp1 though adding a step to sleep for 2-5 minuter after reboot and before the application install step is a common workaround.. a powershell command with "Start-Sleep
    -s 120" should do it.

I have been syncing outlook calendar and contacts from my PC to my iPhone with no problems. I have version 1.1.2 on my iPhone and 7.5 or whatever the latest is on iTunes software. The syncs were fine until recently and now I cant sync and get an error message that says "outlook sync client encountered problem" What could possibly have happened....I read some posts that say to go back to iTunes 7.3 etc....this has to be a common problem....any suggestions.

Here is an article from the apple support website that might help out.

  • Management and maintanence of 2008r2 developments with 2012 client tools

    Hi eb
I need to manage and maintane sql server 2008r2 developments like databases, ssis packages, ssrs reports, ssas native cubes
and at the same time start developping in 2012 tools for 2012 servers with thier own version of client tools.
    Questions:
Can 2008r2 and 2012 client tools co-exist on the same development machine?
Are there any known issues with development of any of the sql server 2008r2 components after instalation of the 2012 client components?
I guess it is not possible to uninstall the 2008r2 client tools alltogther because managing 2008r2 developments from within 2012 client tools would automatically upgrade them to 2012 version (as was the case with the 2005-2008 versions before)?
Last and not list do 2012 client tools require windows 7 OS?
    TIA for your attention
    Rea

    >>>Can 2008r2 and 2012 client tools co-exist on the same development machine?
Yes, they can , but you can develop SSIS 2012  to work against SS2008R2

  • SCCM 2012 Client delpoyment in SCCM 2007 Native world

    Hi Team,
In my account I have SCCM 2007 running in Native mode.... we do not support internet based clients there..but work on HTTPS only. Now I have implemented SCCM 2012 R2 there and now testing the client migration so that I can upgrade the SCCM client agent from
2007 to 2012. In SCCM 2012 we have to support internet based clients and so the SCCM 2012 client which we need to install should be compatible on internet and intranet both
The plan is to use the existing SCCM 2007 infra to do that. Send the ccmsetup.exe ( of SCCM 2012 ) in a package to all the clients via SCCM 2007 Software Distribution and trigger SCCM 2012 installation.
Just to do a small test I did this :
    1. Created a folder in C drive of a client machine and copied the ccmsetup.exe ( of SCCM 2012 ) in it.
    2. Tried to trigger the installation with below mentioned commandlines..... but getting error as mentioned below.... Please help.
    Command line used :
Here ABCD.contoso.org is the intranet MP and PQRS.dmzone.org is internet MP
    CCMSetup.exe /UsePKICert /NoCRLCheck smsmp=ABCD.contoso.org ccmhostname=PQRS.dmzone.org smssitecode=ABC

  • Attachments and temp files in GW 2012 Client

I hope this is not already in a thread, I have not found anything yet, so if it is I appoligize ahead of time.
I have updated to Groupwise 2012, running on a SUSE Linux Server, and am slowly upgrading windows clients to 2012 client. I have one user with an attachment issue. They have a file that is e-mailed to them, in Excel, that they open, make one or two changes, and then print. They do not need to save, nor are they trying to save, the file for any reason. The file comes in with the same name everytime it is sent to this user. The first time the user opend the file, everything was fine. However on consecutive opens of the file, they get an error asking to replace the exsisting file with the one from the database. When I looked at the machine, there is a Groupwise folder in their My Documents folder, where it looks to store temp attachent files. These files seem to be auto saved to this folder, cause if I delete the file in question, the attachent opens fine, but when they close the attachment, the temp file is left in the Groupwise folder causing the next open to ask to replace the file. Has anyone else ever seen this issue? Any thoughts on how to fix this, so the temp attachment files are deleted and not left there? Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

This change was done on purpose to help prevent issues where users open
attachments which go to the Windows temp directory, make changes, save
the changes, exit GroupWise, then can't find the file. They can't find
it because it's not there as the GW client cleaned out the temp
directory. The new design keeps the document so that users never lose
their data. The downside is that they get the warning message you
indicated above if they try to open another attachment with the same
    name.

  • SCCM 2012 R2: does the sccm server itself need a sccm 2012 client?

    Hi,
The question is simple. Reason, I update my SCCM 2012 R2 forefront clients via automatic update rule. The server itself has also the forefront/SCEP client but no sccm client.
So I wonder if in general it 's a good idea to install the sccm 2012 client to the SCCM server itself.

    Hi,
There is no document about installing the SCCM 2012 client to the SCCM server itself.
It's depends on whether you want to monitor the SCCM server.

  • SCCM 2012 Client was removed but SCCM console still showing the status as "Yes"

    Hi,
In a VM, SCCM 2012 client agent was removed and the VM was reverted back to a clean machine. SCCM console still shows the status as "Yes" even after the client agent was removed. Heartbeat Discovery is set to run every 1 hour.
    Please guide on this.
    Regards, Lorin Davis

It's kind like a person dying (sorry to be a bit morbid) -- how does the phone company know the person died? The dead person certainly can't tell them and the phone company doesn't query every person it services and ask them "are you alive?"
Thus, someone else must notify them of the person's passing. This is no different than a client agent "dying" in ConfigMgr. A ConfigMgr site never initiates communication with clients and thus something else needs to tell the site that the client
agent is dead. You! Or, an automated process (as Torsten mentioned) that goes through automatically marks a client as "dead" that hasn't been heard from in x number of days.

  • Can GW 2012 Client function as standalone Web Mail client ?

I want to evaluate GW 2012 as an internet mail client, which connects to GMail using POP / SMTP.
After installing the GW 2012 client, I start up GW, but it doesn't seem to be able to connect with GMail. It 'hangs' on an info. box which reads either, "Connecting to Post Office Agent at pop.googlemail.com:0995", or "Connecting to Post Office Agent at smtp.googlemail.com:0465" (depending on the address I enter in the GW startup dialog).
Is the GW 2012 client able to function as a standalone internet mail client ? Does GW need to first connect to a GW Post Office account ? Is there some other way to get into the GW client and configure it ? Other clients (Notes R9, Outlook, Thunderbird) are able to connect directly to GMail.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Many thanks for the link, I did not know such a thing existed and was looking for this a while ago!
Do you know if this stores the mail it retrieves into its own "mini postoffice" ie basically using the same technology as Groupwise to manage the mail store? If so does it have a FID and can this be manipulated so the mail could be imported into a live Groupwise system later? Can you "name your FID" at install time (or with a tweak on a config file).
I know, I know, so many questions ... :-) Seems this is a really good project and engineered by some real Groupwise experts for the good of the community which is brilliant.

  • Client  deletion Problem - Urjent..

    Hi Experts,
There is an existing DEV-QA-PRD environment. There is a need to have a complete Configuration copy of PRD in DEV2 system, which will be used to build another Production Stream (DEV2, QA2, PRD2) for another project.
When we are deleting client ,below  Problems we have facing :
    1) Production equivalent client (4 TB of data) is taking too much time while deleting tables (step 4 in the diagram below).
    2) Of the total 34,882 tables, 34,855 tables took almost 7-8 days to delete.
    3) Last 30-35 tables are taking a lot of time to delete, these are probably the largest tables in the system
    4) Tables EDIDS and CDCLS are currently being deleted for the last 3-4 days
    5) Adding more processes to the Dev2 system is not helping either.
    6) At the current rate, these tables will take another 1.5-2 weeks, which seems to be a long time
    7) Some more tables which took more time were SWWLOGHIST, IDOCREL, SRRELROLES
    Other information:
    1) Operating System used  for the ECC 5.0 is: Tru64 / HP, Oracle 9i DB (List of Service packs and Patches are attached)
    2) Production system has data worth approx. 4TB
    3) No Data Archiving has been done since the inception of the system
I need your Suggestions and Comments on this ---its urjent
Points will rewarded for suitable answers
    Regards
    Prabhu

    Hi Prabhakar
    Any other comments Plz...
Ok, you wanted it )) here is mine
    so far:
    - you copied your huge database (where you don't delete / archive old data) to the new server
    - you are now deleting row by row all that data
    - you will end up having a still huge but empty database, because the tables / tablespaces won't shrink after the client deletion
This does not make any sense to me, am i missing something :(((
Are there other clients in the prod system, which you keep?
@ Markus: i don't think they have 100+ gb memory to cache their huge tables in the sga
I guess the client deletion has something like a MAX ROWS COMMIT limit to prevent undo overflow. If this number is for example 100'000 rows, then you have to execute 100 delete statements (-> 100 full scans) on a 10mio row table. This of course is taking ages. Even worse it gets slower and slower, because the first delete up to 100'000 rows gets the first blocks, the second scans the same blocks, but they are empty now, so it has to scan further, and so on...
    Best regards
    Michael

  • FEP 2010 Admin Template Breaks GPResult /H on SCCM 2012 clients

We have both FEP 2010 clients, which are being managed by a GPO created from the FEP2010 Admin Template in our Central store, and SCCM 2012/SCEP clients which are being managed by
SCCM but we have noticed when running GPResult /h on the SCCM clients, you get an error in the Administrative Template section:
An error has occurred while collecting data for Administrative Templates.
    The following errors were   encountered:
Registry   value "%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Logs\Edb.chk" is of   unexpected type.
We have discovered the SCCM/SCEP client local policy creates the exclusion paths in the registry as a DWORD but the FEP2010 Admin Template creates the exclusion paths
as a REG_SZ on the FEP 2010 clients. When you run GPResult /h, the templates from the Central Store are used and since the value types are different on the SCCM/SCEP 2012 client, GPResult /H fail.
The current work-around is to create a GPO using the FEP 2010 Admin Template with the exclusion paths that are the same as your SCCM 2012 settings and apply that GPO to the SCCM Clients. That changes the registry keys from DWORD to REG_SZ
    and GPResult start working again!!
    Running GPResult /Z also works!!
Any one else experience this behavior?

    Hi,
I tried and found that the value type is different too. The DWORD value for Forefront Client also works, so the workaround you are currently using is applicable. Anyway, I will record the situation that the ADMX template has a different value type with SCEP
    policy value.
