23 disconnects today and counting

Hi, appealing to the forum for help as my 4th call with India today (since the original call I made on the 17th April) has left me with the answer "wait until we call you back on Friday 27th April.
The original call was about broadband dropping connection / slow speed.  After a very unstable day of connections I called the help line.  I've checked filters, tested the master socket, physically binned a cordless phone and replaced it with a new corded phone on a new filter etc.
On Thursday last week the call I had with India advised leave to stabilise until Monday (today) - over the weekend the connection dropped once a day - downstream speed has not moved from 568Kbps and upstream has been an equally appalling dial up speed of 40Kbps.
Today, Monday 23rd April, the connection has dropped 23 times.  India called at 3.30PM, ran me through a speed test which concurred with my terrible speeds shown by the Home Hub 3 software and advised me now to wait until Friday.
Do I really need to put up with this many disconnects until Friday?
Here's the latest speed test and ADSL line stats.:-
1. Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
 Download  Speed  0.23 Mbps

Hi, yes took the lower half of the main socket off and used the test socket.  It's not conveniently located for the computer so I've gone back to an extension socket that has always been used for the computer.  Quiet line test is quiet.  No sky box or alarm or anything else on the other socket.
Broadband dropped while I was typing this!
I notice noise margin has been very up and down on every reconnect - right now downstream showing as 2.4Mbps and upstream as 159Kbps, noise margine down/up as 6.5db/9/9db.
Is the reconnection likely to be something actually been done to the line at the exchange?
Our local exchange is Moreton in Marsh and we're a little out in the sticks - I remember a previous BT engineer visit bemoaning a constant problem with the local cabinet I think.

  • Disconnecting Line and Final Bill

I had been a loyal Verizon Wireless customer since 2008. I
was on a share plan with my wife and my brother, and I would pay the bill each
month which was about $160 for the three of us each month. I never missed one
single payment. Well the 3 of us decided to switch to
US Cellular. My brother’s wife had already been there, and they had these new
phones for a penny and it was time as we’ve had these same phones for 5 years
almost now, we were out of contract, and I had a work discount through US Cellular. So.......
February 22, 2014 the three of us went over to US cellular
and started a new plan with new phones. My phone number and my brother’s phone
number switched without a problem. However, my wife, who’s number was from a
different region could not be switched, we needed to get her a new number.
After we switched, US Cellular told me to call Verizon the very next day (which
was February 23rd) and disconnect/deactivate my wife’s line because
that one would not happen automatically as they didn’t transfer her old number.
So on February 23rd, I did
just that. I called Verizon and they said we were disconnecting it and I’d get
the next bill and would have to pay that and should be done.
Well sure enough around March 1st, the next bill
came, and on it is the full balance of $160 due March 10th. I question this and
call Verizon again admitting I thought it would be a lesser amount. They instructed
me to look at the billing date. The cycle was from January 15th to
February 15th on the bill that is due by March 10th. Well
we switched phones on February 22nd, so it made sense to me that
this bill didn’t reflect the few days of February 16- 22nd but
rather the previous full month from January 15th up until February 15th.
So far so good, I just misunderstood the bill cycle date.
So I asked if I could just pay off the remaining amount and
be done with it all. I mean we’re in the beginning of March now and haven’t used
the phones since February 22nd, and they’re all disconnected now,
why not? They told me unfortunately no, I had to pay this whole bill first and
then wait for the next bill cycle to come available which wouldn’t happen until after
March 10th for that last billing cycle which would  reflect those few days of, Feb 16- Feb. 22nd.
The rep ensures me it will probably only be a few bucks per line for those 6-7
days or so.  I said that’s too bad I can’t
just pay the whole thing now but oh well; we’ll do it your way. I guess I’ll just
go online in a few days and pay it  and
then come the next bill cycle (which doesn’t go out until March 10th)
we’ll go online about that and pay the rest; just a few dollars per line.
The rep butts in, “yeah, about that sir, once you disconnect
the line, as you've done, you lose service to your online bill pay and accounts online so you
will have to call us to pay. I’m thinking aww man, another inconvenience, but
oh well, I’ll do what I have to do and call back twice to get these bills paid.
Well, a week later a couple days before March 10th
when the full $160 is due, I call and pay it (which took me forever on hold as
one of their centers was down). She apologized for the delay, took my payment,
and said when that last bill gets generated here in a few days (March 11th that shows usage from Feb 15th to March 15th, but will only reflect the few days I used the phones in that cycle which would be to the 22nd) I can just push pound
something something and pay the last bill through the automated phone system and be
    done. I said okay
Come now to March 22nd I get that final bill in
the mail. I expect it to be a few bucks per line as is it would only reflect
from February 15th to Feb 22nd when we disconnected our
lines.  But no, the bill is $120. That's almost
3/4 of the price of all three of our phones for an entire month.  I was thinking something must be wrong, unless they didn't prorate the bill in which case the whole month (which would be a rip off) would be $160 like usual but why all this confusion? I was hoping to just use the automated bill
pay via phone to pay for those 6 days in the last cycle and be done with it forever but no, now I have to call the
company AGAIN to figure out all of this. What happened next was a nightmare!
I called and spoke with a rep asking why the outrageous
price for just a few days of service on those lines. She puts me on hold and
looks into it. She comes back and says my wife’s line was never disconnected. I
said you have to be kidding me; I’ve called in to disconnect it initially and
then even called back w/ questions on how the last bill works and everything
after we disconnect the lines. You can even see that no data or minutes were ever used on
any of those 3 lines since Feb. 22nd. She answers, yes sir I see
that, let me place you back on hold. Okay I figure she’s going to check this
out.  She comes back again, well sir I
see you called a couple times  but I don’t see that you requested to disconnect your wife’s
line. WHAT?! I thought. Why else would I originally call? US Cellular was right and told me specifically told me to do this the very next day and I did! AND THEN I ALSO EVEN CALLED BACK LATER AFTER THE NEXT BILL CAME CONFIRMING ALL THE LINES WERE DISCONNECTED AND HAD QUESTIONS ON HOW I LEAVE VERIZON AND WHAT MY FINAL PAYMENT WOULD BE!   And why was my
account access to pay my bill online turned off (I did try to go online to see
if I could pay the last bill and I was no longer to go online) if my wife's line was never disconnected? This is getting
nuts. She placed me on hold again and returns, okay sir, this is what I’m going
to do. I’m going to suspend her line today and then you can call back tomorrow
to disconnect it.  Then you can pay off the last payment on the next bill cycle.
At this point my blood is boiling, was this a joke. I should
not have to call back again, this should have been disconnected weeks ago! and
you can see nothing has been used on those phones. I told her this is the last bill cycle and  I’m not calling
back and we need to get this disconnected today and that bill lowered to its
fair amount.  She places me on hold again
and comes back and tells me she had overridden something and got the line disconnected
today and she was going to take $40 off my phone bill.
At this point I’m like finally, but an hour later and now my
phone bill is $70 for the three phones that we used for 6 days!!  I said 6 days is about 1/5th of the
month. If our final bill is reflecting only the days of the month we used it
should be more like 1/5 the price of our original monthly bill which was $160. which would be more like $32, not $70. I had to explain some of the simple math to her and she
goes on to push about how the line was active and such, and I said but that
wasn’t my fault you didn’t disconnect it and this is not a fair final bill for
6 days of usage!!  She put me on hold yet
again and finally came back and said I’m going to take off another $40 from the
bill but it will need approval from my supervisor which will take 2 business
days. If and when she approves it, you will get the final bill in the mail for
the $120 minus an $85 credit. FINALLY!!!
I wasn’t even looking for something free, I just wanted a
fair final bill after I’ve taken the time to call to disconnect my wife’s line
and understand how the final bill works and everything. No one should have to
go through this and spend hours on the phone trying to understand how the
process works so you don’t get duped and then end up getting duped anyway and
having to spend more time to fix that. It was a big rip-off and extremely frustrating.
Telling me the line’s not disconnected but taking away online bill pay, and the
final bill itself was not only wrong, but it outright lied in certain spots.
Almost as though they were making up dollar amounts and dates. The bill cycle on the last bill said Feb 15th to March 15th but then under then under my wife's name there was the charge of $120 and the dates next to that said March 15th - April 15th!?!?! The phones haven't been used since Feb 22nd! Not simple at all and very confusing.  Make sure you’re carefully monitoring your
bills when leaving Verizon Wireless. Needless to say, I’m never going back to
them so I won’t have to worry about this again. I just hope this new paper bill that shows the credit gets to my mail box before it's due date of 04/10 so I don't get a late charge. I was assured it would. I hope the CSR is telling the truth this time for once. I have faith in the last one I spoke with. I'm hoping she doesn't let me down too like everyone before her so far has.

Leaving is quite simple via porting out. As you noted when two of the lines ported successfully. However I can see no valid reason why the wifes number could not be ported out. There are porting laws in place. But on to the rest.
If your monthly service runs as you are saying "The cycle was from January 15th to February 15th on the bill that is due by March 10th".
That would be incorrect. If your monthly bill is from lets say January 15 through February 14 then your payment on the account is always that last day. (February 14th.) The next new billing cycle is now February 15th through March 14 again the bill closing date is the day the invoice must be paid. All three lines since they were ported on February 22nd. still must be paid in full (2 ported & 1 not ported). There is no prorating in this case. Now in regards to the bill closing date again would next be March 15, 2014 through April 14, 2014. Since the wife's phone was not closed the only device should be just that line and no other. The other lines are paid up through March 14, 2014 so there should be no further charges.
Some where along the line folks must remember to terminate service (port) a few days BEFORE the next bill comes due. remember we pay in advance.
    Good Luck

i got the iphone 5 today and plugged it into my laptop to look on itunes and buy some apps. i done this and disconnected my phone from my laptop however the screen is just coming up with a usb cable pointing to an itunes logo and wont go off? iv tried everything and it wont go back to the orginal home screen, just keeps coming up with the usb cable pointing to the itunes logo. please can some one give me advise as iv only just got it today

it has been into recovery mode. connecting to itunes will solve your problem. if it didnt work connect it itunes and  restore your iphone.

  • How to synch in the most recent version of iTunes - 11.0.0.163 - The latest version updated today and changed the look of the program. I can't see where to click to synch. If I disconnect and restart it works fine automatically, but why do that?

I updated the latest version of iTunes today and it has a new look. That's fine but I can't see where to click to synch my ipod after downloading music or podcasts. It was always easy.

It might make it much easier on you if you enable the sidebar in iTunes. Launch iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar. With iTunes set up like that, it should look a lot more familiar to you. You can select your device name under the devices heading and then go through all of the iTunes panes by clicking on them at the top of the iTunes Window.
My screenshot shows my iPad, but it works the same way with an iPod.

  • I plugged my ipod nano 6th gen in to the latest version of itunes today and as soon as i plugged it it it turned on automatically as it should when i came back to it 5 mins later, picked it up and it felt warm and it wouldnt turn on. what should i do?

I have the same problem and can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I rebuilt my iTunes library and still my 6G nano crahes whenever I load an AAC tune onto it.  MP3s and podcasts all work fine, it's just the AACs...
Just *loading* an AAC song will cause the Nano 6G to reboot as soon as it disconnects from Itunes. It will then reboot a few times and then go into recovery mode. :-(

  • Time Capsule with BT Home Hub - 9 hours of trying to set up and counting...

Hi...I am at my wits end having spent two long evenings trying simply to connect a Time Capsule to an iMac. We have pored over the instructions, read all the postings in all the forums, probably in the entire world (OK, slight exaggeration) and tried every possible combination, and still we end up with a non-responsive Time Capsule (blinking amber light), and the Airport software saying "Waiting for the Time Capsule to restart" in a perpetual loop. The issues may well be around compatibility with the BT Home HUb, but there again they may not. There are no clues about why it fails so consistently in every combination. For the record, these are the combinations we have so far tried: ethernet connection from WAN port on TC to Ethernet port on Home Hub...A wired connection is established successfully. But then immediately the wireless connection wizard starts up, we can't turn it off, and the wireless connection wizard fails. We have tried it in all three combinations of the Wireless wizard. The end result is always the above, the blinking amber light.
We have tried adding the TC without any ethernet connection being involved in the first place. This was the most promising, we actually finally got a green light on the TC itself, but, crucially, NOT in the Airport software: that just hung in the same perpetual loop saying "waiting for Time capsule to restart", even though it CLEARLY HAD RESTARTED (because it gave us the green light). So, after about 9 hours and counting trying to get this "out of the box" solution simply to be recognised by a Mac computer, let alone connected to any other devices in the house (heaven forbid), we are now at our wit's end. Does anyone have any advice?

hi cprelude, I have the same or nearly the setup as you a BT HH V1 and a 500gb timecapsule this is hardwired to bt hh and works well so fear not it can be resolved. first hold the reset button on the HH with the TC disconnected, then while the HH is restarting unplug the TC for a couple of mins then replug inyour TC with the reset switch at the rear pushed in and then let the TC restart and plug in the ethernet cable to thr HH then use Airport utility to connect to the TC. then if all goes well you can set up two wireless networks first being the HH and the second the TC 5ghz. if I was you I would do the first backup on TC via ethernet as the first wireless backup can take hours and hours depending on the amount GBs you already have on your hard drive
    good luck

  • EXHAUSTED!!! 25 DAYS AND COUNTING FOR INSTALL!

Well its got to the point where i think ive just about had it with BT im appalled by them now!!!up to now ive been kept well informed as to what's been going on without me having to ring them .Then Last Friday the day that finally i was gonna get my final appointment (the 4th appointment) i was told yet another excuse/reason as to why this wasn't going to happen and that it will take 48 hrs to sort, so tuesday will now be the day i get my appointment, i was then sent a text with a number and to call  if it wasn't sorted by tuesday which is when they were suppose to ring me again with an update but i didn't get the call (the 1ST time)?
so i called the number i got texted and its the infinity call centre in Dundee well guess what? the problem still persists and that they sent a request but it still hasn't been answered so it could well be another 48 hrs until openreach respond, i asked for a manager to call me back because the person at the call centre was just not bothered atall about my situation and sounded uninterested, well that didn't happen either.
My MAC code runs out on the 20th that will be a month since i ordered, just over infact!!! i ordered 17th march. And just to add insult to injury my BT account states that the total order was complete on the 7th april(my 3rd appointment date)and they will be taking the 1st month broadband payment off me by DD on the 23rd april. I KNOW ITS HARD TO BELIEVE BUT ITS ALL TRUE!!!
SO I WARN ANYONE THINKING OF DEALING WITH BT THINK HARD AND LONG???
days off work,3 engineer appointments,25 days and counting for install, paying for a service i havnt got and uninterested customer services and managers not returning calls.WELCOME TO BT!!!

  • HT5132 I've already dealt with my MobileMe Albums, and now Aperture 3.3.1 is stuck on moving them -- 28 hours and counting. How do I stop it?

I've already dealt with my MobileMe Albums, and now Aperture 3.3.1 is stuck on moving them -- 28 hours and counting. How do I stop it?

    Quit Aperture
Then disconnect from internet (WiFi, Ethernet, etc.)
    Launch Aperture again.
In the Aperture Preferences Web Tab remove MobileMe.
After that you can connect again to to the Internet.
Probably the "Quit" button does not work. Then try to quit using the Terminal to avoid "Force Quit":
Launch the Terminal (from Applications > Utilities) and enter
         killalll Aperture
If this does not work, use "Force Quit".
See here why to avoid force quitting:
If Aperture is unresponsive, how to avoid force quitting?

  • 50 days and counting without my MacBook

Today, i am celebrating my dissapointment on my RSD macbook white... it been away now for 50 days and counting, with my dissappointment yesterday, i called long distance to apple center in manila, philippines about the status of my repair and one genius guy say, he replaced already the logic board with the new redesigned heatsink.... but he said, after 24 hour of test run, it experienced the rainbow bootup screen and recommended/had diagnosed that the new LB and heatsink is defective and asked again another one in US Apple.... THIS IS TOO MUCH!!!!....Ive asked a service unit, the genius guy said he will call me bank on the same day.... BUT NO CALL CAME... i will be calling them again this day....I think i already eligible for a refund on this situation... Can someone give some encouragement not to HATE this situation???

The ironic part of you situation is that they probably have the unit fixed. The "rainbow bootup screen" is software related and has nothing to do with the hardware.
Call AppleCare first and try an get a replacement. If that doesn't work, tell the "genius" to send your unit back. You'll probably be fine.

  • 11th Feb and counting

So my phone line went off sometime during the morning of 11th February (came home for lunch and found it dead) and I'm still sitting here with no phone or internet (BT WiFi hotspot at fair strength has kept me sane, just).
I, like others on here have been constantly ignored, fobbed off, lied to and treated in such a way that if I ran a business and treated my customers this badly I would rightly lose them.
The fault was (after nearly a week) traced by the Openreach engineer to the exchange, to be precise the new street cabinet just outside the exchange. It appears that in installing the new cabinet for future fibre BB the engineers have disconnected my line which used to be DTE and not reconnected it - cheers guys.
Apparently I'm told by the Openreach engineer it's a 'job for the actual BT guys and a specialist as they have to go down the manhole to fix it'. This I was told could take another TWO WEEKS.
To be fair a different engineer (a short scruffy chap) turned up today and was up ladders and poles outside and also had the cover in the pavement up - I went and introduced myself and asked if he would need access to my property to which I received a curt reply of 'no'. Then he carried on working and obviously wasn't the chatty, friendly type. So I left him to it. He returned a while later after presumably going back to the exchange (which is a 2 miniute walk away, if that) with another younger chap. They were there working for another half hour or so then left without a word, also leaving the gate wide open which had been shut when they arrived.
I have been promised 'communication' from BT and have recieved little - two times with an Indian sounding person that was barely understandable and once with an English lady who was friendly but clearly couldn't wait to get off the line!
I was told in one call that I had closed the case and the fault was resolved!!! I nipped that in the bud in no uncertain terms! I have received no more info as to exactly what is going on and I am disgusted at the lack of concern, urgency, communication and generally poor level of service I have received - for a fault on THEIR equipment caused by their own incompetence. I now fear that receiving billing credit for all of this down time will be just as much of a drawn out farce.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Chris
I haven't read all this thread but what you have said about being BT's reponsability is correct.
Your contract is with BT. It is not with Openreach and as far as you are concerned Openreach have nothing to do with any aspect of your contract with BT. Openreach do not provide you with anything, you do not pay Openreach for anything. You pay for the service from BT.
If you have a problem, regardless of where it is, it is BT's responsibility to you to get it sorted.
If BT have to deal through/with Openreach that is of no concern to you. If BT contract somebody else to install or carry out work on their behalf, that is no concern of yours. It is solely up to BT to sort you out and fulfil their part of the contract to you and supply the service that you pay them for.
They can not say sorry that is Openreach to blame for that. It may well be Openreach are to blame but that is up to BT to sort out with Openreach and not use it as an excuse for poor or bad service.
The sooner that the excuse of Openreach are responsible for the this and BT are not responsible for that is stopped the better.
Responsibility for the product sold to the customer lies in its entirety with the retailer who in this case is BT
Ectophile, you are wrong about the shop being stuck in the middle. Under the Sale of Goods Act it is the retailers responsibility to repair or replace the faulty goods. Again it is of no concern to the customer which company does that. If Assus won't fix it that is the retailers problem not the shop customers.

  • Now 9 engineers and counting

    Update to:-
    8 Engineers and counting
11-Feb-2011   Engineer #8 visits. No fault found, said service has been capped. Engineer phones to have cap removed but cannot get through. Installs new master socket and radio filter on line to 'see what happens'. Get callback from BT asking if speed is ok. When informed it is not I am told it should get better over 48 hours.
After 48 hours speed is still the same and informed that BT will ‘monitor the fault’.
18-Feb-2011   Phone them for progress update  and am told they are still ‘monitoring’
20-Feb-2011   Am told an engineer needs to call.
21-Feb 2011   Engineer #9 visits. FAULT FOUND. Something back towards the server is stopping the engineer from syncing. While trying to locate the fault it disappears and he can now sync at 4.7mb. Contacts control in Swansea and arranges a ‘Lift and Shift’, which means changing the exchange equipment and rerouteing to the server. Sync drops to 2mb. Contacts control again and is told to give it a couple of days to lift itself.

    New Fault No:-            VOL-011/5055439xxxx
31-May-2011  Had a email from Mod on 16th confirming that my Sync speed was now
4928 Kbps and a profile of 4000 Kbps. Not as good as the 4500 Kbps
profile the engineer got but I could live with it.
                        Until today.
Down to 1.4Mb again. IP Profile 2000 Kbps. Usual waffle from India about
it being the most I can expect, even after they checked the fault history
and they could see the speed I have been getting. Finally got them to deal
with it but am not holding my breath.
Because I now have a new fault number I will be claiming a refund (3rd)

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15-j012la Notebook and issues with it not responing with a Windows 10 update. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices. It should continue where it left off.
Please let me know how this goes.
    Thanks.

    Hi Timia,
If you are using Safari as a web browser :-
Open Safari, go to Safari menu > Preferences > General, and put Google as the homepage. Then, choose Google as your default search engine.
If you are using Google Chrome as the web browser :-
      Open Google Chrome.
In the top right corner of the page, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings.
In the "Search" section, select Google from the drop-down menu.
Let me know if you still experience any issue.
    Regards,
